Do not use this location. There are only a few rental car businesses in fort smith but I can only imagine they are all better than Hertz. Here is why. We only needed the rental car as a result of auto accident. The insurance made all of the arrangements for pick-up. At 8:00 am we dropped our family car off at the repair shop then drove my wife over to pick up the rental she would be using for the week. To our surprise, we were told there were no cars available but they would let us know when one came in. I asked why they didn't call us or the insurance company to let us know. Response was they called my number but got voice mail. Maybe or maybe but there was no message and this was an issue. About 1:00, still no call from Hertz about the car so I called them back telling them that if we didn't have something by 3:00 (wife needed to pick up the kids) I would be canceling the reservation and getting the rental from a competitor. They finally came thru and to their credit they did actually deliver the vehicle to my house. The tank was only 3/4 full when we took possession. Upon return, everything was smooth.....so we thought. About a week later I see an unauthorized charge to my credit card with a name I didn't recognize. After about 30 minutes on the phone with my bank, we discovered it was this Hertz location using the business name of some currier service. I called Hertz to inquire about the charge. Response- insurance said they were only paying 80% so they put the other 20% on my account. When asked why they didn't notify me before applying the charge they said because the insurance company said they would call me. To me, this excuse was weak since it was not the insurance company that withdrew money from my bank. Anyway it was in error and the next day the insurance company paid the 20%. It took another week and 2 more phone calls before Hertz reversed the charges to my account. Bottom line is that the company seems shady, lacks communication and does not deserve your business. read more

What a miserable place. Maurice is the manager. I rented hertz to drive round trip Tulsa to Memphis. Had a blow out and I couldn't do the whole trip on the donut. Hertz sent me to this specific location after verifying with them that I was to stop by and trade cars. The manager was pissed. Wouldn't even talk to me. He walked off to find out which of his employees approved my car switch, hollered at her for giving away one of 'HIS" cars, then got on the phone with hertz to argue it. I had to sit in his lobby and call hertz myself to get it fixed. He wouldn't even converse with me. I had already driven 35 miles out of my way to get to him. So I then was sent to the airport to change cars. He wouldn't even talk to me as I left. #downwithmaurice read more

I agree. This locate does not deserve to display the Hertz brand. I too had an accident on the interstate. They brought a car to the wrecker location. I told the delivery person I was 4 hours from home on way to Atlanta. I would need to purchase a replacement car at my destination. I regularly rent Hertz one way. They did not disclose there were 2 different types of cars; 1) a local car that must be returned to the Ft Smith location and 2) one that can be one way and dropped at an alternate location. The car they gave me was a local car even though I made it clear what my intention was. The vehicle had 49,000 miles, reeked of smoke, filthy seats, and had 1/8 tank of gas. After purchasing a car in Atlanta, I called Ft Smith Hertz to let them know I was returning the car to the Atlanta International Airport. I called all day Sat and Sun hearing the phone message "Please stay on the line, someone will be with you shortly" rather than stating the fact they close at noon on Sat, may not answer the phone in the morning even if they are there, and are closed Sun. Could their message not communicate that?? I had the car for 6 days 3 hours, paying the return bill at ATL for $315. Two weeks later I see a bill on my credit card for $1740.54. I immediately called the manager in Ft Smith. He said I had the local car and it bills at $200/day + tax. I told him I made it clear my intention of dropping off after purchasing replacement car and would have waited to rent a one way car. Why would I get in a $200/day car??? He didn't even listen. I had to keep asking if he was still on the line. He asked who the company was that I worked for to see how often they rented from him. I asked for a compromise. He said no. He then said it was billed to my credit card 3 weeks ago, I should have called sooner. I told him it was a stealthy charge. I WAS NEVER PROVIDED A BILL OTHER THAN THE 315. BILL AT ATL. I just chanced across the bill on my credit card statement. Mr Ft Smith manager had my email address. I had to call corporate to get a bill. I've asked for an arbitration by Hertz corporate and told them he reflected VERY POORLY on their brand. Though arbitration is pending, others need to be warned of their unscrupulous, unfair and dishonest business practices. They are not nice or fair people to deal with. read more
