Zero stars if I could. I booked my rental last Friday and was scheduled to pick it up today at 10:30 AM. I arrived around 4:30 PM, and instead of trying to accommodate me, the manager rudely told me I was late and said he would have to put me in a different vehicle that would cost me more. I've rented cars from plenty of agencies and have never experienced this kind of treatment. I understand that I was late, but there was no reason to speak to me the way he did or immediately try to charge me more rather than simply explaining my options. Things then escalated into an argument, and he proceeded to kick me out of the location. His behavior was extremely aggressive and intimidating, to the point where I genuinely felt threatened and concerned that he might reach for a firearm. Make sure you confirm your reservation the day of. Reserved a car on Monday for Friday pickup. I get there and they told me there was a glitch in the system and they no longer have my reservation. Even though I showed them proof there was nothing they could do to help. They tried to offer me an SUV that was triple the price of the car I reserved. Screwed up my weekend plans immensely. Seems like 40% of the time they don't have any cars avail. They manage their inventory without any buffers it seems and books 120% of the cars they have, counting on no shows and cancellations. Often you go there and have to wait hours for someone to maybe return a car, in which case it's often not cleaned well and only has a partial tank of gas. If I could leave zero I would. I had scheduled a pick up for 5pm and got there at 5pm. Doors were locked. Everyone just looked at me and walked away. Apparently they close at 5pm. So if you close at 5 pm then you shouldn't accept or book pick ups for 5pm. When someone walked out I told them I had a reservation for 5pm and his sarcastic response was well just like the bank we close at 5. Come back tomorrow. I was surprised to see horrible reviews. I booked through Expedia, and got the extra coverage. When I arrived it was explained that I did have extra coverage for the vehicle, but not for liability, and this was also optional, which I also purchased for $15/day. Which leads to a lot of unhappy customers, and then the team here it hurts having to deal with it. Hertz, in general, is a terrible company to deal with. I have had numerous difficulties during this vacation. I reserved an economy car but none were available so I have to pay significantly more money to get a vehicle that it too large for a short 73 year old woman. When the car presented a warning signal, I was told to go to an airport location 25 miles away to get a replacement vehicle or ride with the tow truck. They offered no assistance whatsoever. Do not rent from here. The price you see online is not the price you get. Once you arrive they tell you they don't have the car your reserved and they up charge you for another car. They don't price match you. Then they tell you if you bring it a couple hours early you can get a discount. So I brought it a couple hours early and the story changed again. I didn't get a discount. STOP! Read this entire nightmare of a post before you think about renting from this store. My husband picked up his rental car on a Thursday morning for a business trip. It probably took about 30-40 minutes of waiting when we arrived because apparently the car wasn't clean yet. The guy brought the car around running and, because of the delay, my husband and his business partner loaded up and got on the road ASAP. They drove about three hours north toward Tampa before needing to stop for gas. They gassed up... and then realized that they couldn't turn the car on. They'd assumed the car would just turn on because - of course! - the keys had to be there somewhere. They looked everywhere, but nothing. They called the Hertz, and oh, what do you know? Hertz hadn't actually given them the keys. Which meant that these two entrepreneurs were stranded in a gas-station stall in a dead car - no power, no AC - trying to take their business calls for three hours while an employee drove the keys up. It was about three hours, and that's only after he got around to texting me. Reminder: Midday. Florida. It's hot, and their workday is shot. I obviously called about compensation the next morning, about 10:30. I called four times that day and got punted around. The first time, the very nervous employee offered me $50. Of course, that was nowhere near sufficient. He claimed his manager was on an "important business call" and I politely left my number for them to call me back. The same employee called me back a few minutes later, still babblingly nervous, and said his manager had approved increasing the amount to $100, but had managed to do this in the middle of his very important call because he was still too busy to talk to me. I told him that wasn't adequate, and he told me to call back in an hour. When I did so, I got a different employee with an R name - Raymond, maybe? - who told me the manager was now at lunch and would call me back. (To be honest, I think all of these were excuses which speaks to how Jonathan is probably not a very supportive manager if his employees can't count on him to pick up escalated cases.) You may be surprised to hear that in fact, the manager did no such thing. I called again at 3 when I was off work (but apparently customer service closes down at 3 and there wasn't even a voicemail, so keep that in mind if you rent from this store.) So apparently the manager didn't have time from when he got back from lunch to the close of business to call back a customer who'd been stranded by his own store's mistake. So I had to call a fourth time this morning. Luckily I managed to get the manager, whose name is Jonathan, on the first try. He didn't even bother apologizing for the incident - he was super dismissive. He just told me that he'd told "that employee" to tell me I could have a $100 credit, and implied that I should probably feel grateful for that because usually it's a gift certificate - as if we would EVER rent from this store again??? Now this is why you should care: you probably won't forget to check that you got the keys after reading this post, but this is the big take-away: if you have any kind of problem, even a big one, you're going to get the run-around, and if you have the time to continue to call and call and call, the customer service you get will be delayed, dismissive, insulting, and wholly inadequate. Don't put yourself through it - just rent from another company. I invite Jonathan from Hertz to call me back and make this right. You should have my number as I left it multiple times. read more

I recently rented a car from Hertz in Boca Raton and the initial car I was provided reeked of cigarette smoke. I am a non-smoker and the scent was too strong for me. I had to return the car within 20 minutes of obtaining the vehicle. They did accommodate, but I ended up with a much bigger SUV than I wanted which lead to increased fuel costs. They have a sign posted that they clean the vehicles when someone smokes in them, but clearly that did not happen. The second SUV was dirty, but definitely not as smokey. Condsider instituting a no smoking policy for your cars/suvs. They offered no discounts or credits for delaying my trip due to the condition of the initial SUV. read more

When I saw the outside of the car it was dirty. I asked the agent to clean it please, he sai it was disinfectEd and clean. I took him around the car, he blamed it on the trees. I didn't look at the inside until my husband drove it to our place. it was filthy inside. We had to clean and disinfect the car before allowing the kids and grandparents in. Also this was supposed to be a 7 seater it was the worst experience, the seat in the back where the most uncomfortable ever, had to crawl in and out. I prepaid for a minivan rental on October 9th. They kindly called me on October 10th to tell me they don't have a minivan. Fine. They couldn't issue me a refund - you have to call the 1 - 800 number. OK. That office was closed on Saturday/Sunday. Imagine - a travel industry company closed on the weekend? So, I called on Monday asking for a refund (on a product I never received). They said that I have to wait for a redemption date??? before they can process the refund. It is now October 28th and I STILL DON'T HAVE A REFUND! When I received the SUV I rented, it was covered with tar splatters. I brought it to the attention of the man bringing out the car, who in turn, talked to the agent. He took it back to clean it again. Again, tar splatters on it. This time another person delivered the car and she nastily explained it was run through the car wash two times now and that's the best it will get. My husband went to talk to the rental agent who said it couldn't be cleaned because it would ruin the paint finish. The agent said he would make a notation of it. There was never an offer to switch out to another car and after driving it, especially in the rain, I noticed all the tar on the windshield which created a bloched view. I have always thought of Hertz as a high end car rental. Well, never again will I rent junk from them (good deal or not). read more

I recently rented a car from this facility over the weekend and I had to return the car immediately due to the car being dirty and smoke filled. They state they clean cars if someone smokes, but this Ford Edge was horrible. They did provide another vehicle, but it was larger and cost more to refuel. I have rented multiple times here in the last month for work. Each time, I was helped immediately, and I did not have any problems with the service or vehicles. If you want the easiest experience, sign up for Hertz Gold. They will have all your info beforehand and check out will be a breeze. I have found Hertz to generally be one of the easier car rental companies to work with. Be advised that there is little to no parking immediately in front of the office. That's the only minus. This is an off-airport rental office, so don't expect a hundred cars to choose from, or the big board wth your name on it like at most big metropolitan airports. read more

As sure as the sun shines in Florida, the guy I spoke to was as rude and curt and in caring as I had read about previously. I wish I got his name, but it might have been Roberto. Do not go here. I reserved a car in advanced for a 1pm time slot. When I went to pick up the car, the man at the front desk very rudely let me know that I needed to wait until 4pm to receive a car. His words were "you're going to need to wait, this is what happens when you make an appointment on the same day you need the car." 1. I had made the appointment 24 hours in advance. He didn't even look me up to see if I had made an appointment or not. He just wanted to get rid of me. 2. Even if I had made the reservation on the same day, how is it my fault that you don't have cars available at the times you say you do on your website? If cars aren't available, don't allow me to make the reservation, don't tell me "this is what happens when..."' That's terrible costumer service. I understand that sometimes these things run late. If I had to wait 30 minutes or so that would have been fine. But to make an appointment at 1 and be told to wait until 4 is unacceptable. Especially when I had to be on the road by 3. Hertz has been our go to for rentals within the US and travel to Canada for a number of years. While I was in Boca Raton in the winter, I rented from this location almost every weekend. The whole crew is really helpful and personable. The cars I rented were almost all good on mpg, as I am watchful of fuel use for environmental reasons. On my last rental to travel across from Boca to Southern California, Rusty had a Ford Fusion hybrid model waiting for my long trip that was just perfect on mpg. I rented a car here last week. After reading their reviews I was skeptical but I read the reviews for the other rental places in town and they were all hit-or-miss. I chose Hertz because it's closest to my place and went in with an open mind. The two employees were Vanessa and Andrew who were nice, professional, and pleasant. My car was ready when I got there and it was probably 15 minutes of time before I was on the road. Having read the reviews I figured I would do my best to ensure I didn't run into any snags. 1) I picked up on a Thu - I would expect Fri thru Mon to be busy. 2) I picked up at 2pm - evening times are probably busy. 3) This is a local Hertz place and they don't have the inventory that an airport Hertz would have so I didn't care what kind of car I got as long as it was the cheapest (if I want to impress someone it's certainly not going to be with a rental car). Anyway, I returned the car on a Sunday at noon and I was the only customer there. 10 minutes of paperwork and car once-over and a nice lady dropped me off at home.
