I recently booked a rental at Palm Beach Airport but had to make a last minute change to the return portion of the reservation. I tried to get everything done on the phone but it was a hassle and a chore to do so. After wasting a good 20 minutes on hold and going back and forth with an inept clerk, I was told to call the airport location directly to make my requested changes. Even with a reduced amount of people renting cars, Avis PBI didn't pick up the phone a single time and I called 3 times. I then had the idea to drive down to the Yamato branch in Boca Raton in order to speak with someone directly. Surprisingly, these guys were absolutely outstanding. They changed my reservation quickly ans even didn't some insider tricks which got me extra days for less money. I have no idea how this worked but that's what haokened! They lie they have electric cars, so we booked it, drove there for 20 min and when we arrived they said "We don't have electric cars available!" All for nothing. So we wanted to rent a regular car then and asked if we can drop off at our closest location as this location is too far, they said it's 25$ - even though it was there fault they say they have electric and they didn't. Unfortunate to have to leave this review, but this downtown boca location SCAMS customers. They will charge you for unfilled gas if you don't point out the discrepancy on your bill, AND they do not coordinate with AVIS 800# if you need to extend your rental. The customer MUST extend through the 800#, and can agree to a rental return date/ time, however the location will bill you for a full extra day of the original drop off and pick up time are not the same. The manager fully knows he's scamming people, but would rather spend his time on HARD ROCK BETS!!! read more

1 star ONLY because I cannot leave 0 stars. Awful experience at this location. Avis itself is fine, but this location is a disaster. The person behind the counter was rude, condescending, and treated me like I was intruding on his spa vacation instead of an actual paying customer. I get it, customer service positions are sometimes thankless, and it can be both challenging and difficult to deal with customers, but cutting off customers mid sentence and sneering that "you're not listening to me" because the customer is daring to ask a question is just incredibly poor customer service. I had my gut feelings about this place however I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Attendant could not find the keys to my rental which worried me. I heard the owner instructing him to give me the "Malibu that hasn't been moved in weeks". I had to wait for them to "clean it" which is not a big deal. I'm happy to wait for a clean car. However upon getting in the car...IT WAS DISGUSTING. Looks like someone or a whole family went to down on fast food. CRUMBS and sticky residue everywhere. On top of that! Worst car rental experience. My car was in the shop and I chose to rent a car through Costco Travel. Since I didn't know how long it would take I opted for a week rental. When I went to the location, I asked if my car would be ready early, could I return it and get a daily rate. This did not happen. I was charged just $20 less than the weekly rate. Worse the attendant returning the car was arrogant and rude. I called customer support and was given a song and dance. They informed me, I was being charged a higher daily rate since I only had the car 3 days. Interestingly, they sent me an email with the daily and weekly rate and it supposed to be $43 a day? Wow! Had the worst customer service experience with Carol today, Feb 6 2025. He is a man at the front desk who laughed in my face when I asked where my car was. He not only did not attempt to help at all (I came in to pick up a car, which was not there)- he went in the back room and did not respond to any request for support. He should not be in customer service for Avis, nor should he be in customer service at all. I reserved a SUV rental on the Avis website and prepaid the rental online and chose this location to pickup. Although the site is mega small, I was given a nice midsized SUV that was clean and fresh. Rental pickup was easy and fast, but if you get a bad car (ie recent smoker), they may not have many to chose as a replacement. read more

I am a preferred Avis customer and rent cars through this company for business and leisure travels. By far this location in Boca Raton is the worst location I have ever encountered! I rented a car at the Miami Airport and discovered as soon as I was near my hotel that the tire pressure on my rental car drastically dropped. Since the car was unsafe to drive considering that it was also raining I was glad to be able to locate this branch since it was near my hotel. When I arrived at the this location I waited for more than 10 minutes for someone to greet me at the rental counter. Finally when the rental agent arrived I briefly explained my situation with the unsafe car and I requested if I can exchange into a safer vehicle. A male rental agent was rude and yelled at me and said "to return the car back to the airport where I rented it because his cars are all reserved." I told the rental agent he does not have to yell that horrible customer service. He then replied "we have no customer service hear!" I asked another agent to help me put air in the flat tire but he refused and said "you do it yourself!" The service I received from this location is unbelievable. I had not other choice since I have a meeting early morning the next day so I ended up having to drive to Fort Lauderdale Airport (20 miles from Boca) with a low tire pressure to exchange the car. Zero stars! Do not go here! While making the reservation it says you can use a debit card... when I arrived they refused to take my chime debit card and also had to do a credit check to even accept a different debit card! Nowhere during the reservation process does it disclose the limitations of debit card or a credit check. Left and returned with my mothers credit card because I do not have one of my own and they refused to rent to me because it wasn't my card. Stay Away!! Worst rental place ever, and that's saying a lot. They never have the car that you reserve. The last time I was there was the absolute final straw. They didn't have the class of vehicle I reserved and tried to put me into a smaller suv. Luckily, the people ahead of me who had ordered a van, which they didn't have any vans available, decided not to take the Pathfinder, so I was able to get it. I asked if the car had recently been serviced because I was taking it on a long road trip. The guy there assured me that it had JUST been serviced, which is the old song and dance they always say. My boyfriend asked to check the oil and guess what....it was as dark as the guys coffee. So he tells me he will take off some money from the rental if I go and change the oil myself, which I ended up having to do, which had me start my long drive much later than I wanted to. Once I returned the car, I gave him the bill for the oil change and he said it would come off the price of the rental. Well, I never received the credit and had to call corporate to get the credit for the oil change that I had to do. Now over a month after I returned the car, I just got a letter in the mail saying they are going to charge me $125 for an excessive cleaning fee for dirt and sand. I have never in my life returned a car excessively dirty. There was some sand and dirt on the outside, but that can easily come off with a hose when they wash it, the inside was perfectly fine. False advertising to start with, and they don't accept Apple Pay or credit card with chip, but they will take the money and then tell you they don't accept and cannot give you keys. So they got my money, but I did not get a car. Now I have to wait up to 10 days to see if they will refund the charge from my Apple Mastercard. Beware! Scamming? I rented a car last week at Avis in Boca and the rep told me he was going to give "free insurance coverage" with my rental. It took him forever to get the contract printed out. That night I notice the charge on my credit card. I went back the next morning to ask the same person about it. I asked him if was some kind of scam for him to get a bonus for upselling the insurance to me. Oh no, no, no, I wouldn't do that , the extra amount on my charge is a security deposit and you will get it when I turn the car in. Worst Car Rental Company - I waited hours to get an SUV I reserved weeks in advance. I was told by John Avis to rent a mini-van instead when I declined, I was told to drive to an airport to see what they had instead. The other option was to wait until somebody showed up with another vehicle. A Nissan Murano was returned after several hours of waiting. Avis never checked the Murano for anything including the tires condition and they did not bother to clean the car. My travel started late in the day due to waiting for the reserved SUV. The Murano had over 45K miles on it. I paid to fix the first flat and was told the tires were all nearly bald. A few days later there was another flat. I had the tire filled with air but the next morning, it was completely flat so ERS had someone switch the donut and I was told no more than 55 MPH and less than 100 miles travel on it. I was forced by Avis to drive 65 miles out of my way and cut my vacation short to exchange the SUV. Now they are billing me for ERS, and administrative costs when that SUV ruined my vacation several times. No one said I would pay additional charges. I could have called AAA and paid nothing. Avis and their people are all horrible, providing no service at all to folks who pay to use a fully functional vehicle,. Avoid Avis because they will make everything the customer's fault. They are a nightmare shyster company. Hundreds of complaints of every type of bad overcharging rental experiences and no customer service at all. The worst customer service of any rental company I got a real junker at the airport in Lauderdale And they upgraded me to a Mustang that was beat up and smelled so badly of smoke and vomit I tried to swap it out for another car in Boca location the guy tells me he doesn't have cars when others are sitting there and he could have made me happy and given me a nice car for the price I was paying and give my junker to another customer that comes later on. The price was $5 difference. The man at the counter actually threatened to call the police because I questioned the bill and only said it was what the computer was telling him and there's nothing he could do. He also told me to call Costco and got even more mad when I told him Costco provides a discount but Avis bills. Wow, not the sharpest person there. John was amazing. We initially rented a car with 32,000 miles from him and he told us to call in a few days to swap it or a newer car. We did and got a car with 500 miles. Later in the month our kikids were coming to visit and we asked him if he had a minivan we could rent. He swapped our sedan for a minivan for NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE! This man knows how to do business. Just picked up a car and unfortunately things happen but I have to commend great customer service when I see it. I believe his name was Manny but he handled the irate customer before me very well. Provided her with all the options and offered a simple change in her package when she began to complain. He nicely explained that with the different levels of insurance the total would be more. Of course she still left in anger but when it was my turn for help he was calm and still personable as if he didn't experience what happened before my turn. Two days later, when we picked up our vehicle, it was dirty, the tank was not full, and after driving it for an hour, we realized the A/C in the back did not work. Very very disappointing service (lack thereof). This would be my 7th rental from here and they have never been this irresponsible until today. Months ago I rented a minivan (same way we always so) and when I showed up to pick it up he didn't have one. He said he tried to call me this morning to tell me. He didn't have the right number and that wouldn't have mattered anyway as it was too late! And then he kept repeating himself about the fact that he tried to call me- as if calling me three hours before scheduled pickup was some heroic or service friendly task. All he had to offer me was a smaller vehicle or the suggestion that I drive 45 minutes or the airport. He said the special rate we had didn't guarantee the car we actually selected. Excellent service! I have used this Avis now more than 3 times and the staff have been very pleasant with outstanding speed and service. The cars are always clean and washed regularly and They have great selections in suvs and sedans. This is my preferred location to rent from as everyone here are always helpful providing great service with a smile on their face. I highly recommend this as place as your choice for rentals. Unorganized and understaffed. My rental car was given to me dirty with cups and empty bags strewn throughout. They marked the gas tank full even though the car has only 7/8 tank of gas. Returning was even worse with only one person working and cars all over the place blocking people from getting in...or out. read more
