This company (Ryan Investments) uses every sleazy, deceptive practice available to fleece customers. It does not follow any of Hertz's rules in managing customer relationships. My personal opinion is like many others here.
1. Don't expect an upgrade. Presidents Circle members are guaranteed an upgrade everywhere else (not "subject to availability"), but IME I have never been upgraded at this location.
2. Don't expect to go directly to your car, let alone get Hertz's Ultimate Choice. You are forced to go to the counter so they can get you to sign a bunch of things with small print so you can be hit with hidden fees when you return. This is always a red flag for frequent renters.
3. A "Location Charge" is added to every rental and is about 50% of the price of my rental. This is just additional revenue and the equivalent of the "fuel surcharge" and "resort fee" scams. So don't be fooled by the low price of the rental in your search.
4. It is impossible to determine the cost of the "insurance" fees (e.g, CDW, TP, XYZ...) while making your reservation at the location. It is not on the website, mobile app, and not even the Hertz call center rep will know. You will only find out when you actual pick up the car. That is when you are hit with an extortion-level amount - in my case about 90% of the cost of the rental car price.
5. If you decline the insurance because you have your own insurance, be prepared to have your entire insurance policy with you and be prepared to wait as they review your policy.
6. Even if you are able to decline the insurance, they will add a hidden "administrative charge". This surprise charge is in the fine print in your confirmation email. The rental details in my confirmation email was black on white, EXCEPT for the fine print with the hidden charges which was dark gray on light gray - very hard to read even with perfect vision (see attached) even if you take the time to read it. The administrative charge is about 80% of your rental price...so about the same amount as the insurance you declined.
7. Almost everyone uses a credit or debit card for rentals today. Unless you bring in a wad of cash with you, expect to pay a €5 fee for the pleasure of using your card.
8. If you pick up your rental after midnight there is an additional €34.05 charge. This is hidden several clicks deep in the small print. Even if you indicate a pick up after midnight, it will not be included in the price displayed on the reservation. Another surprise hidden charge you only realize when you are at the counter, or when you return the car. This is one charge I have not seen at any other airport location.
9. Check your car thoroughly before you leave, and then head back to the counter in the airport, wait in line again, and report, with pictures, everything you see on the car. The pictures they send you at the time-of-rental are not detailed enough. When you return the car, they will look for every reason to charge you for damage.
10. They are aggressive is managing reviews online, challenging every negative submission. Unless you are equally aggressive in getting the review platform to publish your review, it will be deleted. If your review does gets through, expect to get the usual minimizing or disparaging responses from them. I would also expect retribution the next time you rent here.
Bottom line is that I felt fleeced and violated by this company that uses the Hertz name. I was hoping to avoid this as a corporate customer and a frequent Presidents Circle renter, but I guess no one if spared.
Hope this helps. read more
