We rented a car for 6 days at Dublin Airport. Prepaid online with full insurance (100 Euro excess/deductible). Also purchased Glass/tire coverage for a few euros per day. Last time we rented in Ireland with Hertz got a tin can of a car, never again. Dooley's gave us a nearly new Ford, 4 doors with manual transmission. From noon Monday through 8am Saturday was about $260 (plus petrol, returned with full tank). We could have used credit card coverage for insurance, but the price was reasonable enough. We booked online before our trip. Irish car hire companies have been know for sleazy sales tactics but seems like they have cleaned up their act. I would rent from Dooley's again. I would award a 5th star if they did not charge for spouse as additional driver. That would differentiate them from the other Irish car hire companies, and would be good for business. read more

Fast check out for our rental and the staff were very nice. Unfortunately the cars with wifi hotspots were all taken (pretty popular) but the gps navi was just fine. We're pretty resourceful so we don't get lost that fast i just have to remember that it's a right hand drive like Japan. Hubby was good with reorienting me LoL. The car was just what i expected...economy, fuel efficient and small....:-) Paul, the shuttle driver was so pleasant! he gave us tips and places to go which we really appreciated especially since he visited California so he knows the difference and gave us tips with driving over here. Car rental can be painless or painstaking, and you never know which way it's going to go until your experience. Luckily, our interactions with Dan Dooley were pretty solid. Our automatic car was pre-booked as part of a vacation package, so all I needed to do when we arrived to the Dan Dooley desk at the airport was present some paperwork. One thing I wasn't prepared for (but should have been) was the additional purchase of insurance. We were presented with two options: Plan A had a smaller cost but a bigger deductible while Plan B cost about twice as much but had a very small deductible. We decided to go for Plan A and crossed our fingers that we would adjust to Ireland driving quickly. Know before you go: the person who is driving must also be the person who pays for the plan. I think this policy is a little bit silly - who cares how the bill is paid as long as the credit card is approved and the paperwork signed? This policy caused some confusion and paperwork had to be drawn up twice because of it. When we cleared the desk we went outside to wait for the Dan Dooley shuttle. There isn't an organized queue for the shuttles so everyone sort of clumps together. The problem with this is, when the shuttle arrives, whoever is closest to the van gets in first. My sister and I narrowly missed fitting on the first shuttle and when the second shuttle rolled up, the driver told us he was going on his lunch break. After a little bit of pleading and a lot of eye-batting, the driver agreed to take one last trip (for which we tipped him generously). Our car was a fairly new Nissan in great condition, and it served us very well on our trip. Though the car was small, it still fit two big suitcases with room to spare. The portable wifi we ordered through the car service worked fantastically in all areas with just a couple brief exceptions. We were even able to use it in hotels and restaurants, so it was well worth the extra cost. Returning the car was a little bit of a hassle. We relied on Google Maps for directions but there isn't an actual address for the car return, either online or in the paperwork (the paperwork has a map and some directions for coming off the M50, but we didn't see those until we were already circling the airport area). This sent us into a bit of a panic since we had been advised to arrive three hours early to the airport and we hadn't yet found the car return. We pulled over and called the car return and the gentleman who answered was able to give us directions from exactly where we were. Once we pulled into the driveway, we dropped the car with an agent, signed some paperwork at another desk, and took a shuttle to the airport. Give yourself plenty of extra time to take care of these things, as they all took a little longer than expected, even with relatively no crowd. Overall, I'm still going with four stars because we were very pleased with the car and portable wifi, even though there were a couple minor headaches with pick-up and drop-off. read more

Welp, not using Dan Dooley again when we go back to Ireland. The experience started off ok with getting the car relatively quickly, but then the guy running the counter ran off on a break, when we had to return in the condition report. FYI if the sign says away for a 5 minute break, what it really means is 20 mins. The car itself was pretty nice and and a diesel, so we didn't have issues with that, but when we went to return the car it was raining, I couldn't find the copy of the condition report, went through all our luggage, only to have the guy's go oh no, that's ok, we don't need it. I now have a cold thanks to them through tromping around in the rain looking for the dang thing. Not a fan right now. read more

USE WITH CAUTION. We booked online through Dan Dooley, although the reservation was made through their "partner" Dublin Airport Alamo Car Rental. We booked with Dooley/Alamo because they had the best prices online. We had concerns, though, having read reviews saying that you arrive and staff try to claim you had to pay more than initially agreed. This is precisely what happened to us. Our online reservation was €162, for a four-day rental. We arrived bleary-eyed and out of sorts at the time of the reservation. After doing the inspection, the staff member told us we had pre-paid 162 and now had to pay an extra €67. I told her flat-out that this was not correct and that it was fully paid before we left. She said that there must have been a confusion because of the difference in "systems" between Dooley and Alamo. I brought out the contract that I had printed at home to show. She said that they "had to" charge the card, but that it would be refunded when we brought the car back in four days. She said it was "not possible" to leave until I signed the contract agreeing to pay the €67. I signed. What was I supposed to do? It felt like a scam and I felt like I had gotten suckered, but I had a road trip to go on. In the end, they did refund the €67 five days after we returned the car, but I'm sure it was only because I insisted so strongly. It hung over us the whole time, however, and left a bad taste in my mouth. Watch out if you rent from this company! Print out your agreement at home and bring it with you, and don't sign the paperwork that says you agree to pay them extra! read more

In June of 2018, three of us rented a car from Dan Dooley for 9 days. When we arrived at the airport in Dublin, we were directed to the enterprise counter. Once in the car lot, three enterprise employees were helping us. They sold us the additional full coverage insurance. All three employees stated it was an additional 20 euros per day. While trying to convince us to get the additional insurance, they even calculated out what the total cost would be divided between the 3 of us for the 9 days. They were selling this HARD. We finally agreed to the additional 20 euros per day because they bullied and scared the shit out of us. When the charge went through on my credit card, we were actually charged an additional 9 euros per day for road side assistance. This was not once mentioned to us. The Dan Dooley website specifically states 24 hour road side assistance. In the few emails I have received back, they stated "The roadside assistance that you purchased includes tyres/glass/lost keys/fuel tec. The inclusion in the price relates to mechanical failure only." I have been exchanging emails with Dooley since July 6th and the issue still is not resolved. Today is August 9th. The last time received a response was July 26th, two weeks ago. The lack of resolution and lack of communication is unacceptable and completely unprofessional from a business standpoint. As the initial rental was through Dan Dooley, not enterprise, I was told by enterprise to communicate with Dan Dooley for the charges. I absolutely DO NOT recommend using Dan Dooley for your car rental. Dan Dooley owes me 81 euros. This is an awful company. You have been warned! Well I was excited about getting to Ireland, FINALLY!! After a long 10 hours! I had booked my manual car in advance and just wanted to decline all extras when I got there. But it wasn't going to be that smooth... First, its not like the US car rental agencies where if you don't want any coverage, THATS IT!! DRIVE OFF!! and too bad if you crash!! Well, I know my credit card covers me pretty good so that's why I always opt out! Not here, Dan Dooley will try to put a 4500 Euro Hold on your CC! So only taking one CC and Euros on my trip had to pay 100 Euros for their collision waiver which in turn lowers your hold to 1500 Euro. TERRIBLE!! Second, which is why I am giving this place a flat 0!! The idiot irish girl on the counter screws me over by adding a 65 euro Tire and Window insurance that I once never asked for or even knew existed!! So, all in all, I ended up paying close to 200 Euro. Worst thing of all is that the VERBAGE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ON THEIR RENTAL AGREEMENTS!! Ok, this is how awesome Dan Dooley car rental is-- I don't remember the rate we got, but it was cheap, I think about $200 less than Thrifty and those other places for three weeks. Plus, they didn't charge us an 'under 25' per day fee, which saved us a bunch of money. Furthermore, we drove our little VW Golf literally ALL around the perimeter of Ireland with no issues except those of my own making. Well, you see, those little rock walls really sneak up on you especially when you turn off for those little view point things. I mean, you're going at a good clip (and be sure you do or your ass will be run over by an insane Irishman or Irishwoman) and just around the bend---Ooo look at the view--Ooo slam brake-- try to turn off without sending gravel flying everywhere and the car behind you rear-ending you. If you manage to navigate the turn offs which are frequently bordered by rock walls, turning back around and getting out of the turn-offs could still get you. I managed to clip (by which I mean hit the gas and entered the "carriageway" at full speed) the right rear wheel well of the VW on the wall leaving fairly substantial gouges about 4 inches long on the body. At some point in our crazy journey, the front bumper, really the under bumper, came loose. This one was not my fault, I think it was just loose. We were driving over some sort of insane foggy hill and I could barely see in front of me when it came loose with a loud crash and I drove over it. Uh huh. I was so upset that I stopped, yelled at my husband to go back (in the foggy road) and grab said bumper to "save" for some ungodly reason. Long story short: when I dropped the car off, having ditched the under-bumper in a trashcan shortly beforehand (what was I going to do? hand it to them? here's your under-bumper thingy, I didn't do it, I swear, but I did make those huge gouges in your wheel well?), I dropped off the keys and NEVER heard from them again. Not in the form of a damage charge or anything. They rock (pun intended). read more

I've rented from Dooley on three different occasions. The first two times, they were my only option because I was under 25. The price was high, but again, no other options. Overall, I was always very happy with their staff. Very friendly. Very helpful. Can't say enough nice things about the customer service. The last time I rented I was 25 and they still SEEMINGLY had the best price. They took care of me through their department that markets in the US. However, once I arrived to the airport, they gouged me an extra €16 per day for the most basic CDW insurance. And then they charged me a €30 "administrative fee" with a €3000 hold on my credit card for declining the more expensive CDW since I was covered by my insurance. (Had I booked the CDW over the phone with the agent marketing to the US, I would have saved significantly.) We had the car for almost three weeks and hit a curb at one point. It did minor damage to the hub cap on the tire but no significant damage. Upon return the claimed that I destroyed the tire and charged me $200. I doubt they even repaired the tire. But I really had no recourse since they had a €3000 hold on my credit card. Fortunately I was able to get the $200 back through credit card insurance but it was a long process that required a bunch of paperwork. I would rent from Dan Dooley again in the future, but they wouldn't be my first choice. I rented a manual Renault Captur for my family of four. I checked the quote online, called the Boston office to be extra sure (and yep, what you see online is exactly what you will pay), and made the reservation. As you will notice, it's significantly cheaper to rent a manual than auto. A three day rental only cost 77 euro. One thing that my dad and I completely forgot about while booking is that not only do Irish people drive on the other side of the road (leftie), the gear console is also a leftie (!!!!!!!) My dad and I realized this literally a couple days before arrival. We tried to see if there was an automatic car available (even if it's expensive, better safe than sorry) but alas there was not. So if you do not know how to drive stick and/or are uncomfortable with the leftie driving, reserve an automatic well in advance! Because of this, we opted into the excess liability insurance. That way, the premium is only 100 euro instead of 5000 or whatever it was. I had my dad practice leftie manual driving in the parking lot for about 15 min. Once he kind of got the hang of it, we drove to our destinations (Galway, Northern Ireland, and everywhere inbetween). I am happy to say that my family did not end up needing the excess insurance (though we are still glad we purchased it, in case anything had happened). The leftie driving wasn't as big of a deal as we thought it'd be. Instead, it was the narrow-ness of the road that bothered my dad more than anything else. To this date, we still don't know how big-ish trucks and tractors drive 60+ mph on super narrow roads. A lot of the countryside roads were virtually a one-lane road, but two cars whizzed by each other from both directions. It was quite frightening. Anyway, that's besides the point about Dooley rental. We had a great rental experience with Dooley and we would rent again from them if we come back to Ireland. read more

Good rates and excellent customer service. Our car was nice and new and we paid extra for the WiFi hot spot, which I HIGHLY recommend! The only trouble we had was returning the car. Google maps takes you to a location in Santry near the airport and there is a big Dan Dooley sign, but no where to go.. So then we just went to the airport and followed signs for Car Rental Returns, but apparently that is only for after hours. There were directions on a sheet of paper for where to drop off the car but they were so vague and we had already been driving around for a half hr trying to figure it out! Friendly staff but old cars and the prices ain't cheap. Arrived at Dan Dooley after getting off the plane from Amerikay, and had a car booked via Scepter Travel along with an Aer Fungus plane ticket (that was cheaper that buying just the plane ticket with Aer Fungus). There were 5 people in the queue in front of me and it took 45 minutes to get up to the counter. After getting off an overnight flight with little sleep this was a pain. By the time I got to the counter I was really sleepy and the time I'd spent waiting for a car, I could have been at me mate's house sleeping or 1/4 of the way to Donegal. The staff are friendly and thorough, but everything takes ages they appear to be use paper for everything (no computers) and talked me through toll fees for the M50 (why can't Dooley's pay them for me?), car insurance etc. Also, the rate with the travel agent doesn't include car insurance (which means the price for the car could work much more that with the competition). Next, I had to go wait for the shuttle bus to the depot, which didn't take long. However, the depot is a bit out of the way and is down the Swords Road, and is a pain to find when you need to drop-off your car and in a rush or late! Most of the other car-hire crowd are at a big well-marked car park near the airport. Now the car, this is the first time I've gotten a 4 year old car with over 100,000 miles on it and obviously stained seats as rental (someone skangered me banger?). Otherwise the car drove and handled fine, and appear clean (except for the stains they couldn't get out of the fabric) and got me around An Lar, and up to and around Donegal and back without an issue. For the price, I probably could have gotten a similar, but newer, cleaner car, with more accessories from a major car-rental firm that I've used in the past. I don't think I'll be using Dooley's again, unless they're significantly cheaper than the competition. read more

We seriously had so many issues with this system; once it landed us at a dead end stating we had reached our destination, it constantly called road names things they were not labelled as at all, and did not have at like 90% of the locations we were looking for (we'd either have to just put in the town name and hope to happen upon it, or one time I actually just went ahead and turned on my cell phone's data roaming so we could find our hotel- probably racking up a nice little bill...) Anyway, we had no problems with the actually car or any of their services, but next time I would think twice about using their GPS, though I'm not exactly sure what the other options are. read more

Dan Dooley offers a very straightforward and reliable car rental service. The company has a much more welcoming, even family-feel about it. It lacks in any of that commercial, competitiveness that comes with big business but instead radiates something that is much more consumer friendly and personable. We have often rented cars from their airport kiosk and found their service to be swift and once again, very forthcoming. You feel you are being dealt with by a human being as a human being and not as a small susceptible entity being used within a money-making conglomerate like I have felt in the past with such big fish as Hertz. I would highly recommend their personable service next time you require a rental vehicle. read more

Dan Dooley's website touts a price guarantee and says, "Our Inclusive car rental low prices are just that, we guarantee there are no Hidden Extras charged when you arrive." I found this to be almost true when I rented in June 2015. At the counter in Dublin airport, they charged me for fuel. During my online booking, I think they did warn about this, but did not indicate the cost of fuel that would be charged to my card in Ireland. It ended up not relevant in the long run, because I returned the Ford Galaxy two weeks later with a fuel tank, so they refunded the fuel charge. However, they did not refund the 50 euro "Deliv/Coll/Misc" fee which was in addition to the fuel cost. They don't make this fee clear when bragging about their price guarantee. They might have mentioned this fee, either when quoting rental cost or during the online ordering process; I don't recall. When we first reached the van and inspected it, I found minor damage not noted on the rental paperwork. We had to walk all the way back to the rental counter to have this noted, so they couldn't make us responsible for the damage. While back at the counter, we also had to address the surprising absence of a spare tire. They explained that we had to rely on a canned chemical sealant product stored in the vehicle, or hire a tow truck if needed. Also, they cleared up our confusion about hooking up the center seat's safety belt; it attaches to a point on the Ford Galaxy's interior ceiling above that seat. They should have told us about these things the first time we were at the rental counter. The vehicle proved to be reliable, although a couple times it gave a low battery warning that worried us a little. Returning the van was fast and easy, and I didn't have to wait long for their shuttle to take me back to Maldron Hotel in the airport site. read more

Order/Book the insurance when booking your flight, the air lines (Aer Lingus) mislead customers into thinking its an option & then when you get to the car rental office, you have to pay more than originally quoted for the car insurance. The car insurance in Ireland is mandatory & outrageously expensive. They also put a $1,000 hold on your credit card, hmm in my early 20's travelling days that used gave me an mild anxiety attack! I've tried most of the car rental companies at Dublin airport & basically its the same process in each office, unless you want to split hairs. We used Dan Dooley Car Hire on a recent trip to Ireland. On our previous trip we learned that you MUST purchase the insurance as no car rental companies in the country can accept your own insurance or even insurance on your credit card that works everywhere else. It's almost impossible to get a clear picture before you get there how much the rental will end up costing. However, Dan Dooley is very up front and you get an accurate quote with no surprises. The only reason I didn't give them 5 Stars is because the GPS we rented was pretty worthless and we had to use our phones with international data. I would rent from them again, I just wouldn't rent the GPS. read more

I had pre-paid for a car rental for 5 days to be picked up at the airport. Upon picking up the car, my husband and I decided we didn't want the GPS and my license expired so I could not drive the car so we canceled the second driver add-on as well. Since these items were already pre-paid, we were told that we would be credited this amount, but we NEVER GOT THE CREDIT. We were also supposed to get an email with a receipt but it we did not get it and we didn't check until it was too late. We were also told that it would be cheaper to let them re-fuel the car because they charge less than what the gas stations charged. When we returned the car with a half tank, we got charged $125 which is WAY more than what the gas station would have charged! DO NOT LET THEM RE-FUEL FOR YOU! It has been a nightmare trying to contact Dan Dooley. I have tried the phone number on the website, the chat option which no one responds to, and the email option which no one responds to as well. I do get through on the phone but for some reason, they are not able to find my receipt or list of charges-- something about not being able to access Ireland's information. I ended up having to dispute it with my credit card company. All-in-all, they are not cheaper than other rental companies, their lines are not shorter, it's impossible to get any information about what the charges mean. Here's a text chat when trying to book a car with this company. All along they say you get full coverage-then read the last bit where they wanna charge another 100 Euro and say "That's our full coverage". Spent 20 minutes on this chat and was upfront about how I didn't want any extra charges. They didn't reveal that until the very end. You make your mind up but that says a lot about the company and hiding costs until you push them to reveal it. In mid-September, I had an absolutely outstanding experience with Dan Dooley (DD) car rental, from both Jim in the New Jersey office, who helped me locate my son after he had been involved in a horrific auto accident near Kilkenny, and from the Dublin staff from whom I rented my car. Jim exemplifies the term "exceptional customer service" and went above and beyond to help me locate the area when my son's accident occurred and the name and location of the hospital into which he had been admitted. Stressed after flying into Dublin at the last minute from California for the family emergency, I realized that I had not reserved a rental car. Not only was the DD rental experience perfect - great four-door Nissan that was in perfect condition and very easy to drive - but the people with whom I dealt could not have been more kind, compassionate, or lovely. From completing the paperwork at the airport, to taking the shuttle to pick up the car, to returning the car, everyone I encountered bent over backwards to assist me. I look forward to returning to Ireland, where I will surely rent my car from DD. I can't thank their staff enough for all that they did for me. read more

I would not recommend Dan Dooley for your car rental when in Ireland. The biggest reason is their crazy amounts of hidden fees. We had to pay roughly 800 euro extra in fees just to be able to have our small car for one week. They also failed to give us a damage report so when we returned the car they attempted to charge us extra for scratches that were on the car when we left. Overall it was a horrible experience with individuals who did not seem to be able to explain any of their policies very well. read more

One of the few rental agencies in Ireland that rent out automatic, we ended up getting a stick because they are more fun to drive. Coming from the US, it was mandatory to get car rental car insurance which I can understand why as the roads are very tiny in Ireland's countryside, we didn't hit anything but when checking out 2 people in front of us did, one slapped off their mirror and another scratched their fender. You can check with your car insurance to see if you are covered, we were not, most US insurance companies cover rental car use but not for Ireland. There were no hidden fees when we returned the car, and the shuttle to and from the Dublin Airport was great, the drivers were very friendly and helpful. read more

We rented a full-size car for over 2 weeks from Dan Dooley at the airport in Dublin. Car was great, service excellent and quick. I'd recommend them strongly. The following incident only adds gravy to the recommendation. We had arrived off a transatlantic flight- so we were tired. Keeping track of all your stuff after a long flight can be a challenge. The shuttle bus took us to our car and we headed off across Dublin. That evening I had a call from Dan Dooley, telling me they had found a small shoulder bag belonging to me. A quick check made me realise that I had mis-placed it. In this bag was our passports, drivers' licenses, tickets, and cash for the whole trip! Next day I drove back out to the airport to their office. Sure enough, they had the bag for me. I couldn't express enough gratitude to the rep there. I tried to force a $100 note into his hands, but he refused. (I even tasked him to come outside- in case he was worried about being on camera- but he refused.) I have traveled to Ireland multiple times per year for 30 years. Some of the car rental companies are like dealing with crooks. I recently tried dan dooley car rentals at the shannon airport. I made my reservation in advance with no issues or surprises. I had to increase my car size in advance since two additional friends were joining us. The upgrade was handled in seconds using their chat and was reasonable. The Customer Service online and in person at the airport was Exceptional!!! No financial surprises or game playing like some others!!! From now on I only use dan dooley car rental whenever available!! Way better than the big corporate ones!! Arrived at Dublin Airport and was offered a car in a lower group than the one pre- ordered and paid for but when this was declined had to wait an hour and a half before a car was available and we were transported to their depot. Car provided was two years old with 85K on the clock, no floor mats and as it was raining the floor on drivers side was very slippy and had to request they provide a mat for the foot well. Had a great experience with Dan Dooley. I compared prices a few months before and even though I paid just a little bit more, I felt that it was worth it given the better reviews for Dan Dooley. The folks on the phone were very helpful and friendly. Months later when I got to Dublin, the folks in the check-in office were great, as were the other folks on the ground. I loved my little Ibiza. And I was very glad to have added the Wifi unit. That made it soooooo easy to simply use my phone/google maps for directions (a mapping system I was totally used to). Seriously worked great. So worth the money. And I took that portable little Wifi unit with me where ever I went. The signal was as good if not better than a few places where I stayed, not to mention a few restaurants/pubs that had Wifi. Mine was often better. Great experience overall. read more

Terrible staff at the reception made the additional charge even more unbearable

Very unfriendly Car Rental Company with cars which are in a Bad Condition. Me and an frien rent a Fiat Punto for 2 days. Before wo went on our journey we saw that the Rim was extremly damaged. We told that the woman on the reception and she highlighted it on the condition report but did nothing else. For me that car wans't able to drive but we had to. So on our journey we had a puncture on that tyre we claimed. So we fixes it with the spare tyre and told that to the woman at the reception when we gave our car back in Dublin. After a few days we got an Invoice of 300€ for a new tyre, a steel rim and a 4 wheel allignment. Absolutely ridiculous but they won't discuss so we had to pay for they're fault. Would never recommend that Company again. read more

Dan Dooley!!! It's always fun for me to find the local car rental agency when I am overseas, they tend to have a cool add on, and normally go out of their way to make you happy (they are competing with the big guys after all - looking at you Hertz). Dan Dooley was no exception; they had far and away the coolest car add-on feature I've gotten in Europe, Wi-Fi for the car. If you've traveled out of the states, you know how irritating it can be to pay for data packages for your phone. They are expensive, and you tend to feel lost without Google handy at all times (god forbid we couldn't search for the top rated bars/ map where they are/check in to them IMMEDIATELY). Best part of the Wi-Fi though? It was portable, and connected up to 5 devices. This meant we could unplug it from the car, stick it in our bag and boom, instant Wi-Fi anywhere we were in the country for both our phones. Big props Dan, you made our trip 1000% more enjoyable. The car selection was nice; unleaded or diesel, full range from economy to vans. We went with the smallest possible car we could get (there was only two of us), and gas is almost 2euro a LITER (that's roughly 7.50$ a gallon, so maybe stop complaining about "high" gas prices while filling up your seven seat Escalade). Driving on the left is always a challenge the first day, but Dooley had nice large signs on the windshield to remind us "left,left,left", good advice as we managed to survive a week with a car unscathed (I have to admit, I got a bit too comfortable, and by the second day found myself flying over the speed limit....whoops). Great service and selection, I would highly recommend checking Dan Dooley out - make sure you get the Wi-Fi service you won't regret it for a second. read more

I have used Dooley's for the past 5 years going to Ireland 2 or 3 times a year and found them to be excellent. I waive the CDW using my credit card and have the letter from the CC with me that states they cover the Republic of Ireland. I know that they will put a 3,500E hold on my credit card until I return it in good condition. I know they will charge a 35E fee for using my own insurance and I know that they will charge me a full tank of gas that will be refunded when I bring it back full. If you know all of the above, check the car thoroughly for any dents/scratches/broken glass/tires, then you will be fine. read more

Dooley's Deceptive Diesel Deal After researching car rental companies in Ireland I decided to book with Dooley's based on their no hidden fee policy, the clarity of insurance coverage and good reviews by customers on several websites. Everything was fine except for the experience at the arrival counter. After finding my reservation I was offered an upgrade to a diesel vehicle for 75 Euros. Always wary of such offers, I declined automatically. The agent however persisted. She strongly advised me to upgrade because diesel vehicles have better fuel efficiency and diesel fuel is 0.15 Euros cheaper per liter. She told me it could save me money and she used the experience of her sister, who has a diesel vehicle and who spends much less in fuel as an an example. Though my skepticism waned, too tired and jet-lagged to do the math, I declined again. The agent tried once more to stress how much I'd save in fuel and when I declined for the third time said in a disparaging voice "Well, its up to you!" So here's the math. Diesel fuel is about 0.15 Euros less per liter. To break even on the Euro 75 upgrade you'd have to buy 500 liters. I measured the "mileage" of the petrol Skoda Fabia I rented at 20 km per liter. This means you'd have to drive 10,000 km to use 500 liters. It's 428 Km diagonally across Ireland from Belfast to Cork, so unless you are planning to make that drive more than 20 times on your holiday, decline Dooley's deceptive diesel deal. read more

I am renting from Dan Dooleys since 1997, every year . I find them very professional and eager to please. I asked when I came in to Dublin to leave the car at the airport. In terminal 2 so it would be easy for me to just check in for my flight. No problem says the woman at the counter your one of our loyal customers! Then I was running short this past trip of time no time to re fuel, they just charged me for what I used, and credited the rest no problem again your a loyal customer! Then when arriving I must admit I was cranky and not in the best form, the woman proceeds to tell me I am getting a diesel. Flipped out, but low and behold the gal was right it was cheaper on the fuel cost and went a long way, my fear was I would not find filling stations but everywhere I went they had plenty of diesel . Last thing I want to say is Dan Dooleys doesn't play games like all the rest of the rental car companies in Ireland. Insurance on your car all inclusive will leave you fully covered. Our American credit cards don cover us in Ireland anymore except I heard Amex does, check that out, but if you don't have Amex its best to get the bumper to bumper you never know what could happen. Ps they always have a nice selection of automatics which are easier for us Americans tacking the other side of the road! Okay hope this helps you guys I am glad I discovered Them it's a good company to do business with!. It was OK. Ladies and Gentlemen! READ ABOUT insurance online before renting a car in Ireland! It's a unique deal because of insurance and the very tight roads. CDW is not enough, there will still be a huge deductible and most times it doesn't cover tires and glass. I sucks, I agree, but that's how it is in Ireland. You will need to purchase SCDW, the S stands for Super. Just get all the insurance you can and then you don't have to worry about what happens. You can just bring back the steering wheel. That said, the experience was OK. The car I got was a giant piece of crap! It said Ford Festiva or similar. I didn't see one Ford Festiva on the lot. What I got was NOT similar. Dan's is nice in the sense they have a 1-800 number from the states so you are not negotiating insurance at the counter. The price you pay in the states is what you pay, that's it, no BS. This review is for the Shannon location. We booked a vacation package with Aer Lingus which included car rental with Dan Dooley. Check-in went very smoothly. The car was practically new (less than 1,000 km). A Renault Fluence which was spacious (plentiful truck space for our party of 4) and excellent diesel efficiency! We rented a portable wifi, which was a life saver because we could use our smartphones on airplane mode, which eliminated the need to rent a separate GPS (since we had google maps, plus all of the other apps/benefits of having wifi). Returning the car was a breeze too. Looking at their rates online, they are very reasonable and will choose them again when we return to Ireland. I also emailed the company before and after the trip and they were very good about answering questions. read more

Customer service was good. We rented a WIFI thing that worked half the time for $10 or 10 euros a day. We had to pay for the mandatory liability insurance. Our bill for 10 days was close to $1k...ouch. But the car got us where we needed to go, no issues. We opted for automatic with no AC...you don't need AC in the car in Ireland. read more

I could have sworn I gave these guys five stars last time we were in Ireland but I must not have since I don't see it. Anyway - this trip I'd give them a strong four. Straightforward pricing with no gimmicks, decent cars, fairly clean, and fairly friendly. This year most of the employees seemed more stressed though and I can't say the service was outstanding overall. Then again I rate pretty hard. We will rent from them again next time we are in ireland. read more
