I went to Heroes & Ghost piercing to get my conch pierced. Expensive, but Joey was very good. He explained everything and was gentle and kind. I also like the jewelry selection. I'll go back, no questions. Sometimes it's worth it to pay extra. Preciate your customer service. Pain level- 4/5-10. And it was only for a second so good deal. I love this, it's probably my favorite piercing. The guy at the desk answering all my questions I didn't get your name, but thank you very much as well ! 4 stars only because of pricing. read more

I lost my mom the day before Mother's Day this year. I went to Heroes and Ghosts as a walk in. It was way busier than I figured it would be and I ended up waiting for over four hours...that is not a complaint at all. I've been in a ton of tattoo shops over the years and have had to wait many times. Daryl got done with his very long appointment and took me up to his area and hooked me up with my little memorial to my Mom. He and I talked about he had been through a similar experience several years before. Without trying to sound corny as hell, he was what I needed right then. I live several hours from Richmond but I will make the trip again. read more

I had my vertical labret pierced here! Just stopped in earlier tonight to downsize the jewelry. Both experiences were great. The piercer Joey was very considerate. They communicated well with me and really made sure we were happy with the placement before proceeding. The space was clean and had a great vibe. I look forward to going again for my next piercing! read more

Loved my experience here. Nick listened to what I wanted and he delivered it. He is such a pleasure to be around and very easy to talk to. He had a playlist playing while he tattooed me and there are so many focal points in his room (which is upstairs of the shop), to focus on while working on your breathing to keep yourself calm. Nick has been tattooing for 17 years and his work speaks for itself. I'd been wanting to get tattooed by a Nick for probably 3 years now. But I wanted it to be a custom piece. I've come to love the traditional style more than I thought I would. So I knew Nick was the man to create this ship for me. As he said, he has a gentle hand. I felt comfortable in his presence and enjoyed my experience here. The shop is clean and well maintained inside. read more

I went in today, wanting to get a septum. I was really anxious and honestly my experience was a 10 out of 10 it was very welcoming. The person in the front saw that I was anxious and so he told me that it would be ok and he really reassured me that everything was fine and honestly, I got less nervous, but still, I was a little anxious after that but Joey the person that did my piercing was absolutely amazing. I had to take a minute, but then once he like did everything it was literally fine. The pain was honestly a one out of 10 and then after it was like a straight 0 out of 10 it was very excellent and I love it. read more

My friend and I walked in on a Saturday late afternoon hoping for availability for us each to get a pretty simple tattoo on our wrists. We only had to wait about 20 minutes and then Will was available for me, and then my friend. We were both very comfortable with him. He was very sweet, patient, didn't rush us. And most importantly, he did a great job! We are both thrilled with how they turned out. read more

Got a PHENOMENAL tattoo by Ryan today!! Not only did he create something I sent him, but he went above and beyond to add some of his style and artistry to the design as an additional option for me to consider. While his tattooing skills are off the charts, what really made this experience so awesome was how kind, thoughtful, funny, and honest he was throughout the entire process. I have never had such a warm and stress free tattoo experience like the one I had with Ryan. If you don't go here and request him, you are surely missing out!! I got a piercing here about a month ago and the piercer, Joey is extremely professional and knowledgeable. I walked in told them what my appointment was for and they directed me and my friend to the piercing area, they showed us what our jewelry being sterilized would look like with the machine. The piercing was super quick and is healing great under their tips! read more

I came in to get my septum pierced about 2 months ago, and it has healed beautifully. My piercer was Joey Woodard. He was extremely welcoming and kind. He walked us through all the steps and was very informative. The piercing parlor had an especially pleasant atmosphere. For jewelry options, there is quite a wide variety depending on what piercing you get. Overall, was a great experience and will be going back in the future. read more

Cant recommend enough! I did a lot of research before choosing the studio for my first Richmond tattoo and...Wow, I had such a great experience here! Ish gave me an incredible tattoo and was a pleasure to coordinate/plan with beforehand. I LOVE my tattoo/this studio and will for sure use Ish again. Cameron in the front of the shop was so helpful and everything ran nice and smooth. I showed up at my apt time, Ish shared a sketch with me, talked with me through a couple changes, and I got started about 20 minutes later while he did a final pass on my design. I'll be back for sure! Pics are from right after it was done. read more

I've visited Heroes and Ghosts twice. Once for a tattoo and second for piercings. Nick Bryant did my tattoo and I LOVE it. He's very nice and very professional. Joey Woodard did my ear piercings. I had stretched lives that I had surgery to fix. I was very hesitant to get my ears pierced again, but Joey was very confident there'd be no issues and the process went very smoothly. Definitely exceeded my expectations! I'd recommend visiting these lovely gentlemen for you tattoo or piercing needs! read more

I got my nose pierced here in July and it was a really pleasant experience. The staff here is very "consent-y" and I am here for it. I felt like the piercer was very intentional and clear in explaining when, where, and why he would be touching my face for the piercing and I really appreciated how trauma-informed he was. It made the experience so comfortable. I revisited a month ago to have a shorter post swapped in and it was a similarly positive experience. Also- they have a piercing punch card which is badass (6th one is free!). I also got a tattoo here a few weeks ago and Will was great too. He was also very intentional and did such a good job on the fine lines of my tattoo. I will definitely revisit for tattoos and piercings in the future! read more

I went to get my nose pierced by Joey on Saturday. Since Saturday is first come, first served, we had a few people in front of us. We were told what our price would be with jewelry, and then we had about a 30 minute wait. It was not a big deal, so we walked on Cary Street. When it was our turn, we received a text message and went back to the shop. Joey explained everything he was going to do and showed us the sterilized jewelry. He continued to explain what he was doing and when he pierced it was quick and simple and efficient. He was done before we knew it! I absolutely love it and will definitely go back for another piercing from Joey! read more

Great tattoo shop! Probably the only one in Richmond I'd trust with my own tattoos. Of course, I'm a bit biased, because my friends and my boyfriend work here. Nonetheless, I'm objectively very impressed with their work and work ETHIC. I've seen the guys (and lady - Jess) take walk-in after walk-in and deliver quality work every single time, along with fair pricing. Remember, you get what you pay for with tattoos, though. Their pricing is fair, depending on your request! All of them are exceptional artists. There's a professional at the shop for every style of interest (traditional, realistic, and everything in between). On top of excellent service, talent, and pricing, you can't beat the location! Right in my favorite place in Richmond, Carytown. Get yourself a tattoo and a cupcake from next door! read more

I've got 3 tattoos from Josh Richey over the past 14 years and I recommend him to everyone!

I got my nose pierced here in October by Sam! They were sooo awesome and kind! Made me feel super comfortable by explaining everything they were doing and made it a wonderful experience. Have gone back since to purchase more jewelry and get my nose stud downsized. Lovely community there as well! Each time I'm in everyone is chatty and just super down to earth. read more

I chose this particular shop over the many in RVA due to the great reviews I have heard from friends! When I went there for a consultation I went there for to speak to a particular artist but he wasn't available in the time I needed so I searched the other portfolios, after a few a stumbled upon Nick's portfolio. Upon meeting Nick he was very nice, professional and engaging. This was my first tattoo and he very helpful in answering any and all of my questions. The day of my appointment, I arrived at the specified time and Nick drew up the tattoo. He walked me through the entire process, really putting my nerves at ease. The tattoo itself is a pretty small set and took about 10 minutes, a very long 10 minutes but again he checked frequently to see how I was doing. The atmosphere of the shop itself, everytime I walked in everyone seemed very friendly, which I loved. The shop itself is a bit small but that was nothing that bothers me! I would recommend Nick to anyone who is looking for a new tattoo, not only is he extremely talented but very nice! read more

My friend from rva recommended this place and I thought why not!? Made an appointment with Will online and was very disappointed with my ink. He was watching a movie when tattooing me and kept stopping to laugh and look at the tv across the room. Then when I suggested getting it touched up a couple weeks later he acted insulted and insinuated I was in the wrong. Never returning and would not recommend to the girls that want clean lines or basic human decency. read more

I've gotten four smaller tattoos over the past four years and I'm in progress on a large sleeve at the moment - all of them are by Jess Versus here at Heroes and Ghosts. She's exceptionally talented and helpful throughout the consultation and scheduling process, and she has a terrific attitude during the tattoo itself. She's always cut me a fair deal and is always willing to work with changes to the stencils/plans for a tattoo, but honestly, I've never once seen an idea from her that I didn't love. The shop in general is sanitary, friendly, well-laid out and comfortable. All of the artists are masters at their trade and they're honest about pricing and timing - they won't try to oversell you on a small tattoo and they won't try to squeeze you into a smaller time slot than your work deserves. Cannot recommend them enough. read more

I do not recommend getting pierced here. I got my nostril pierced a little over two months ago, and within a week had a bump start forming on one side of my piercing. One sided bumps are known to typically be angle bumps (nostril piercings must be done perpendicular). So, knowing this info, I consulted my piercer. I told them I didn't mind having to get re-pierced, I know things happen and was confident they would be able to fix it by re-piercing (after removal & healing). They didn't think the angle was wrong and had the other piercer check it as well who agreed there wasn't an angle issue. They said downsizing the post and changing from prong set jewelry to cabochon would help resolve the bump. When I got my jewelry downsized, I was surprised when they didn't sterilize the new flat back labret or the insertion taper before putting it in. Unfortunately the bump didn't get better--it kept getting worse. With my bump only getting worse, I consulted 7 other piercers over the course of the next 2 months. Yes, 7. (Can you tell I really wanted this piercing to work out?) Every single one said my nostril piercing wasn't perpendicular and what I had was indeed an angle bump. They all told me I would need to remove the piercing, wait at least 3 months, and have it re-pierced correctly. With this info, I reached out again stating my concerns. I was brushed off, and told again the angle was correct and it must be irritated because of some other reason. After consulting 7 other professional piercers, who all said the same thing, I didn't trust their conclusion, and wanted it removed. I will get it re-pierced elsewhere. I went to this shop after looking at both piercers portfolios, and not seeing anything alarming. Unfortunately they don't show the angle of their piercings in their portfolios, so you can't evaluate that prior to getting pierced. I spent well over $100 for this one piercing, and am very unhappy I had to take it out due to the angle. read more

The wait was a little long for walk in but there is so much to do in Cary that it wasn't a problem Vincent did my tattoo and I was clearly really nervous because it was my first tattoo but he was super friendly and the tattoo ended up being absolutely gorgeous. Josh is the man. Clean work; dope shop; very reasonable prices. Can't speak highly enough of Josh's shop.

went here for my 1st tattoo - just walked in. Didn't have to wait long at all to be seen. Tattoo was $80 or $100, can't remember it was almost a year ago. Took under 15 minutes, didn't feel a thing! Good first tattoo experience. Some of the letters don't have straight lines and that bothers me but not enough where I don't like my tattoo. read more

I ALWAYS trust the staff at Heroes and Ghosts. They produce nothing but great work and I don't have enough good things to say about the place. The work areas are always clean, and with seven full time artists, it's easy to find one who can make your tattoo a reality. I recently stopped in for my fourth piece and worked with Nick since my previous artist Elliot moved back to Boston. A bit skeptical, after seeing his portfolio and the design he made for me, I know I can trust him to continue to do great work for me in the future. The process itself was one of the easiest I've experienced so far, and Nick made sure I was comfortable before doing anything. His crisp line work and tasteful shading techniques will keep me coming back for sure. A+ read more

Called two weeks ago asking for an appointment (for my first tattoo), I already had an artist in mind, the receptionist asked what I wanted (just three words on my arm) he laughed and said that would be a walk in and to call on the day of.. I called yesterday and was told to just come in, I came in at 6:30 and they were booked till closing at 9. Was told to comeback the next day at 12. I arrived at 12:20, a group of 3 was already there. I was told that nick will do it when he returns from his coffee run, nick returned and I was informed that he actually had an appointment to do already and that Vince will do mine in an hour after he finishes the guests that we're already there.. I left my name and number and was told that they'll call at 1:30.. they called at 2:30 saying they'll take me at 3. They wouldn't let me make an appointment and then jerked me around and wasted my time when a first tattoo is already an intimidating experience Ended up going to somewhere else before they even called back. read more

So came in as a walk-in on the 4/27 just to talk and get my idea out and get an estimate and look at some work. Well ended up talking with Vince who I must say is AMAZING, he literally went over my idea typed it up formatted it, looked at different size options. Even though we couldn't go with my original idea he helped me figure out another option. Then the next day on which was my birthday he made me feel really comfortable and finished tattooing my whole back in about an hours time, with the least amount of pain. So all in all I loved the customer service Vince had and he gave me a sick tattoo! So next tattoo you get book with him! read more

This place is amazing. Absolutely amazing. I am 16 years old and just got my tattoo done here by Greg French (also known as Gfresh) and he was fantastic. He calmed me down, held a great conversation, and his work is positively amazing. This definitely deserves all 5 stars and I will recommend to all friends who are looking for a tattoo. The two negative reviews no longer apply to this store, as they no longer do piercings and the tattoo artist that was so terrible has been gone for two years. So there really isn't any negativity about this shop at all. As for the shop, it is clean, organized, and has a very welcoming atmosphere. All of the employees are kind and ready to answer any questions you may have. Price does change depending on what kind of tattoo you want, how big it is, color, etc which is expected of a good tattoo parlor. read more

Had the pleasure of being tattooed at H&G tonight by the infamous Nick Bryant. I didn't make an appointment but he was gracious enough to do both my tattoo and my sisters tattoo tonight. We wanted to get tribute tattoos for a cousin that passed away last year and Nick nailed it! My sister got a quote on her inner arm? I guess that's what you would call it...Nick finished in SIX minutes. I got a half moon, flowers and a little sparkle with script and he did it in like 10. This man is a BEAST. I highly recommend Heroes & Ghosts. Especially one of their artists, Charles B. Charles was recommended to me when I was looking for an artist to do a paw print for me, as a memorial. I showed him a ceramic impression done by the vet, and he turned that into a very special tattoo. I am attaching a picture. (Charles is VERY good at script, so if you want a word or message, he is your guy!) My second tattoo by Charles is still in progress. I took him a very small picture of a leaf to show him the shape I wanted. He turned that into an extremely creative back and upper arm piece (still in progress). Again, I will attach a picture. I don't ever write reviews on yelp. I do get tattoos all over the country (right around 20 sessions worth each at different shops), and for the most part positive experiences, but I had the best experience ever getting tattooed here at Heroes & Ghosts. I totally came in as a walk in and was greeted and taken care of right away. Jess was professional and personable, which made it seem like I was talking to a friend for a few hours rather than being stabbed by a needle. The vibe of the whole shop made everything just perfect. If you have several tattoos or looking to pop your ink cherry, I recommend here over any other shop I have ever visited. Will revisit for sure. read more

I started a half sleeve at heros and ghost with Mitchell. While he is very talented, his customer service skills suck. The prices he charges is not consistent. Told me my half sleeve would run around $800 (this was just for the outside not under arm). I spent $700 just on the outline and a little shading, NO color. He never responds to texts and would never let me sit more than 3 hours. With two sessions in and probably two more to go, my initial quit of $800 is going to turn into $1500 easy. Let's just say, I found a new artist elsewhere that's going to finish the job instead of me wasting my money at heros and ghost tattoo. Would be one star if the artist didn't have talent. Before I told him I wouldn't be back (because he never responds), he text me 2 hrs before my session saying he couldn't make it. Terrible service.keep it classy Heros and Ghost! read more

Very rude and unprofessional. They don't have any regard for your time and won't make any time to see you.

I tried to schedule a consultation and they said they don't schedule those and to just call before coming in and they will let me know if an artist is available or not. I tried catching an artist 3 different times for 3 different days, I called before coming in and each time I was told the artist will have time to sit with me and talk about my tattoo but all 3 times that I showed up, I got turned away and told the artist doesn't have time for me. After 3 wasted trips I will never attempt to use this business again and I was sure to tell all my friends and family. Don't waste your time trying to convince them to make time for you. read more
