I've visited Heroes and Ghosts twice. Once for a tattoo and second for piercings. Nick Bryant did my tattoo and I LOVE it. He's very nice and very professional. Joey Woodard did my ear piercings. I had stretched lives that I had surgery to fix. I was very hesitant to get my ears pierced again, but Joey was very confident there'd be no issues and the process went very smoothly. I got my nose pierced here in July and it was a really pleasant experience. The staff here is very "consent-y" and I am here for it. I felt like the piercer was very intentional and clear in explaining when, where, and why he would be touching my face for the piercing and I really appreciated how trauma-informed he was. It made the experience so comfortable. I revisited a month ago to have a shorter post swapped in and it was a similarly positive experience. Also- they have a piercing punch card which is badass (6th one is free!). I also got a tattoo here a few weeks ago and Will was great too. He was also very intentional and did such a good job on the fine lines of my tattoo. I will definitely revisit for tattoos and piercings in the future! read more

I went to get my nose pierced by Joey on Saturday. Since Saturday is first come, first served, we had a few people in front of us. We were told what our price would be with jewelry, and then we had about a 30 minute wait. It was not a big deal, so we walked on Cary Street. When it was our turn, we received a text message and went back to the shop. Joey explained everything he was going to do and showed us the sterilized jewelry. He continued to explain what he was doing and when he pierced it was quick and simple and efficient. He was done before we knew it! I do not recommend getting pierced here. I got my nostril pierced a little over two months ago, and within a week had a bump start forming on one side of my piercing. One sided bumps are known to typically be angle bumps (nostril piercings must be done perpendicular). So, knowing this info, I consulted my piercer. I told them I didn't mind having to get re-pierced, I know things happen and was confident they would be able to fix it by re-piercing (after removal & healing). They didn't think the angle was wrong and had the other piercer check it as well who agreed there wasn't an angle issue. They said downsizing the post and changing from prong set jewelry to cabochon would help resolve the bump. When I got my jewelry downsized, I was surprised when they didn't sterilize the new flat back labret or the insertion taper before putting it in. Unfortunately the bump didn't get better--it kept getting worse. With my bump only getting worse, I consulted 7 other piercers over the course of the next 2 months. Yes, 7. (Can you tell I really wanted this piercing to work out?) Every single one said my nostril piercing wasn't perpendicular and what I had was indeed an angle bump. They all told me I would need to remove the piercing, wait at least 3 months, and have it re-pierced correctly. With this info, I reached out again stating my concerns. I was brushed off, and told again the angle was correct and it must be irritated because of some other reason. After consulting 7 other professional piercers, who all said the same thing, I didn't trust their conclusion, and wanted it removed. I will get it re-pierced elsewhere. I went to this shop after looking at both piercers portfolios, and not seeing anything alarming. Unfortunately they don't show the angle of their piercings in their portfolios, so you can't evaluate that prior to getting pierced. I spent well over $100 for this one piercing, and am very unhappy I had to take it out due to the angle. read more

I've gotten four smaller tattoos over the past four years and I'm in progress on a large sleeve at the moment - all of them are by Jess Versus here at Heroes and Ghosts. She's exceptionally talented and helpful throughout the consultation and scheduling process, and she has a terrific attitude during the tattoo itself. She's always cut me a fair deal and is always willing to work with changes to the stencils/plans for a tattoo, but honestly, I've never once seen an idea from her that I didn't love. The shop in general is sanitary, friendly, well-laid out and comfortable. All of the artists are masters at their trade and they're honest about pricing and timing - they won't try to oversell you on a small tattoo and they won't try to squeeze you into a smaller time slot than your work deserves. Called two weeks ago asking for an appointment (for my first tattoo), I already had an artist in mind, the receptionist asked what I wanted (just three words on my arm) he laughed and said that would be a walk in and to call on the day of.. I called yesterday and was told to just come in, I came in at 6:30 and they were booked till closing at 9. Was told to comeback the next day at 12. I arrived at 12:20, a group of 3 was already there. I was told that nick will do it when he returns from his coffee run, nick returned and I was informed that he actually had an appointment to do already and that Vince will do mine in an hour after he finishes the guests that we're already there.. I left my name and number and was told that they'll call at 1:30.. they called at 2:30 saying they'll take me at 3. They wouldn't let me make an appointment and then jerked me around and wasted my time when a first tattoo is already an intimidating experience Ended up going to somewhere else before they even called back. read more

Well ended up talking with Vince who I must say is AMAZING, he literally went over my idea typed it up formatted it, looked at different size options. When I went there for a consultation I went there for to speak to a particular artist but he wasn't available in the time I needed so I searched the other portfolios, after a few a stumbled upon Nick's portfolio. Upon meeting Nick he was very nice, professional and engaging. This was my first tattoo and he very helpful in answering any and all of my questions. The day of my appointment, I arrived at the specified time and Nick drew up the tattoo. He walked me through the entire process, really putting my nerves at ease. The tattoo itself is a pretty small set and took about 10 minutes, a very long 10 minutes but again he checked frequently to see how I was doing. The atmosphere of the shop itself, everytime I walked in everyone seemed very friendly, which I loved. The shop itself is a bit small but that was nothing that bothers me! He calmed me down, held a great conversation, and his work is positively amazing. This definitely deserves all 5 stars and I will recommend to all friends who are looking for a tattoo. The two negative reviews no longer apply to this store, as they no longer do piercings and the tattoo artist that was so terrible has been gone for two years. I started a half sleeve at heros and ghost with Mitchell. While he is very talented, his customer service skills suck. The prices he charges is not consistent. Told me my half sleeve would run around $800 (this was just for the outside not under arm). I spent $700 just on the outline and a little shading, NO color. He never responds to texts and would never let me sit more than 3 hours. With two sessions in and probably two more to go, my initial quit of $800 is going to turn into $1500 easy. Let's just say, I found a new artist elsewhere that's going to finish the job instead of me wasting my money at heros and ghost tattoo. Would be one star if the artist didn't have talent. I tried to schedule a consultation and they said they don't schedule those and to just call before coming in and they will let me know if an artist is available or not. I tried catching an artist 3 different times for 3 different days, I called before coming in and each time I was told the artist will have time to sit with me and talk about my tattoo but all 3 times that I showed up, I got turned away and told the artist doesn't have time for me. After 3 wasted trips I will never attempt to use this business again and I was sure to tell all my friends and family. Don't waste your time trying to convince them to make time for you. read more
