An overdue review from October 2024, Anna Wolff at Loose Screw crafted & tattooed a spectacular large upper arm Buddah for me. Anna came recommended by two others. From start to finish, the process was seamless, scheduling my initial consult to working me in during Richmond Tattoo Convention. I initially had a different idea of what I wanted my Buddah to look like yet after my consult with Anna, she gracefully explained why what I wanted wouldn't necessarily look as good as it could then talked me through & showed me the changes, modifications, and adjustments she'd recommend with her experience. I won't lie, I was hesitant but fully trusted her as an artist. As for the tattooing at the convention, I sat in the booth with Anna where she talked to me the entire time, all nine & a half hours - asking questions to drive conservation which was refreshing. Throughout the convention, I was instantly validated in trusting Anna with the decision to make the Buddah a large upper arm piece as she received compliments constantly from other artists and random strangers. While it was exhausting for both of us, at the end of the day, the Buddah looked absolutely breathtaking. Fast forward about two or so months later & I've lost count of the number of compliments I've received on the tattoo Anna did. Seriously, thoroughly impressed with Anna's work & will be reaching out for her to keep tattooing me. I emailed a few months ago about getting a tattoo after getting a gift card. I was told that Nick wanted to do my design so I set up a consultation appointment. He was able to make sense of my jumbled idea and was even excited to do it. He had some cancellations so I was able to get in 2 weeks after the initial appointment. The reminder emails have any details you need to know in regards to having to reschedule, preparing for your appointment, etc. when checking in for my appointment yesterday, they gave me an iPad to fill out their forms. There were terms and conditions to agree to that covered every basis with thattoos and healing. It was easy to read and understand so as long as you read it, you shouldn't have any questions/concerns about how everything works or imperfections with the tattoo. The shop is very clean and covered in really cool artwork, as well as merch from the artists. There's a little area in the lobby with free snacks and coffee, which my artist had me go get for myself. My artist's room was upstairs and it was pretty spacious. He explained every step of the process so I knew what to expect. He showed me the design on his iPad so I could comment on any changes I wanted before printing the stencil. It was so perfect right off the bat and a lot bigger/detailed than I expected. I didn't expect him to finish in one session but he did and it was a good bit quicker than I expected. The end result is so amazing!!! I love it so much. I already had a second appointment scheduled in February so we just changed that to a touch up appointment that he said will probably be needed for the lighter areas. It cost less than quoted and is definitely my most expensive tattoo but it is so so worth it!!! Loose screw has so many talented artists, but it was such a joy working with Nick. I went to Loose Screw and saw Jason for my Charmander (Pokémon) tattoo! It was a super smooth process from the start of inquiring to consulting to the day of. Great experience! The shop is PRISTINE!!! From the moment you walk in the door, you know this place takes tattooing seriously. Everything is tidy - which is fantastic considering the age of the building in which they are housed. My tattoo appointment was at 10 in the morning, and I did not have to wait. I walked in, filled out the paperwork (on an iPad - straightforward!), and Anna was ready to go. I wanted a piece from her flash, and she made sure I chose a couple of others to fill the whole hour since I was paying for the time regardless. Anna was fabulous! She was straightforward and upfront about any issues I might have (she did a piece on each of my hands, which are notoriously iffy). I appreciated her communicating all the possible problems before starting the work. We had a great conversation the whole time, and she wanted to get to know the person she was working with - something not all artists care about. The folks at LooseScrew tattoo are fantastic. It's easy to schedule the consult and tattoo appointments. They have great communication prior to the appointments, from simple reminders to answering questions. Fernando was amazing. He took my general concept and turned it into exactly what I wanted. He was very receptive to feedback and did an amazing job on the tattoo. This was my fourth tattoo and definitely the biggest. Sabrina Elliotte was my artist and I can't say enough good things about her and her work. Five stars, 10 out of 10, she's amazing and will bend over backwards to accommodate her clients. She and her husband Gwooki are incredibly friendly and easy to talk to, and make you feel comfortable in their joint studio space. I wanted an intricate black and grey floral piece, but other than the placement I told her she could draw whatever she thought would look best. What she came up with was not what I expected, but it was gorgeous and I knew I was going to love it. She fit it perfectly to my body and the amount of care and details she put into it are insane. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the process, even using numbing spray (that exists?!) a few times to dull the pain once it got extremely tender. I love the final result, and will wear it with pride forever. I absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for delicate black and grey designs, and hope to be able to come back to her again in the future. The admin staff, however, really needs to do better to support the artists, and only gets a 2.5/3 out of 5. There were so many mistakes made with scheduling and communication that if I hadn't had my heart set on going to Sabrina I would've asked for my deposit back and gone elsewhere. From not passing along all reference materials, scheduling the wrong amount of time, to double booking appointments and needing to cancel, it was a bit of a mess. It put an unfair amount of stress on Sabrina and creates hassle for clients like me who have to request time off work for the appointment. read more

I was hoping to be able to leave a positive review but unfortunately, Anna did a phenomenal job of changing my mind. I had my very first ever tattoo consultation with her and high hopes due to Loose Screw's high reviews after seeing some of their artwork. Walking in, I was extremely excited but after about 10 minutes of Anna shutting down every single idea of how I wanted my piece and showing her some styles from The Skull Museum in California of how I wanted my tattoo to look like, my gut feeling was telling me that she was not willing to work with any of my ideas. I hope this is a learning lesson to you, Anna, that if you aren't willing to work with someone who has ideas that your abilities/skills won't be able to satisfy, at least direct them to another artist instead of saying "Should I also wear the same hat as them?". I am extremely disappointed and hope that you take this as a lesson to improve your abilities as an artist/professional and not make any other client feel disrespected in the future. read more

This shop is so chill! My artist Chris is an amazing human! I have had the pleasure of going through a collaborative experience with Chris Jenkins since October of this year. I had a WTF tattoo that needed covering. I connected with Chris and together we have crushed our rabbit project! It has been an amazing painful most worth it experience (why Chris do you finish with the back of my leg WHYYYYYYYYYY LOL) Yesterday I "finished" my leg sleeve and got a bottle of Richmond blood orange moonshine and an $80 gift certificate!
