My daughter wanted a tattoo for her birthday so we headed to Lucky 13 around Noon on a Saturday in hopes we could beat the crowd. We went to Lucky 13 a couple years ago and really enjoyed the experience so we knew this was the perfect place to go. As soon as we walked in, it was pretty packed. I planned on getting a piercing but when my daughter and sister consulted about a tattoo, they were about 5-6 people ahead of them but they put their name on the list in hopes it wouldn't be too long of a wait. The piercing area was a little busy but the wait wasn't long at all. The majority of their piercings are $20 so I decided on the Forward Helix and my Third Ear Lobe piercing. My piercer was great and made sure I liked the placement before piercing my ears. While we waited, I also bought new jewelry for my Naval, Tragus and Rook piercings, which they changed out for me. With jewelry being only $10, I felt like a kid in a candy store lol. Unfortunately after about an hour, my daughter and sister didn't move up in the wait list so my sister decided to get a Tragus and Second Ear Lobe piercing and we decided to leave. The service at Lucky 13 is great and with it being a pretty popular spot, expect long waits for tattoos! They open at Noon on Saturdays so definitely be there as soon as they open to avoid long waits. I absolutely love the pricing of the piercing. For $90, I got 3 piercings and 3 pieces of jewelry. Definitely check them out! Update: My Forward Helix jewelry did fall out after about a week so make sure the jewelry is very secure before leaving. read more

Do not go for piercings! It's quick and cheap but the piercings are horrible. I got two cartilages that were pierced on a very steep angle and messed up my ears. I eventually had to go to another shop who said I needed to take them out and wait for them to heal. I also got a lobe piercing that has acted up many times. Again, had to go to another piercer to get it fixed. This other piercer is hours away from Richmond and said he gets people all the time coming in with these problems from Lucky 13. This is the second tattoo I got from Chris Wilson. He is fuckin amazing. He's ext talented and professional. He kept within my budget so I was able to give him a good tip. I absolutely love my tattoo. Chris works fast but careful. He noticed I was starting to not be able to handle much more. That's when he took a break and put numbi cream on so we could finish. It was perfect timing. I think I want to make this the first of an ocean them leg sleeve and I will only let Chris do it. We had to stay well past closing time and the girl at the front desk stayed with us. I for her name but she has black and purple hair She was great. Chris even walked me to my car. All piercings for $20 is amazing. I've gotten multiple piercings from here and my septum had no issues. Had my nose pierced and no issues and same with my belly button. Nice people, but don't use "Vermin" the tattoo artist. I went in to get a small tattoo with two circles, mostly black ink, and pretty thin lines. I was charged $120 for, what other tattoo artists are now telling me should have been, a $60-$70 tattoo. I called after hearing this and asked him to verify why he charged $120. He stated, "Because I'm an artist, not a compass, and circles are hard, and stress me out." If a tattoo made him so nervous that he had to overcharge because of the "stress" of it, he shouldn't have agreed to do it. He should have, at least, passed me off to someone who didn't "stress" over two circles. He also never discussed price before starting the tattoo, and finishing. I booked with Sara for this cut little mushroom house and I am loving it. My appt was at 11a, but I wasn't called back until 11:30a and I was the first client of the day. It began rejecting this week and I've already taken it out in order to let it heal for a proper repiercing. This review is solely only for the piercings. I have not gotten a tattoo here and I do not plan to. I've been here at least 3 times and you get exactly what you pay for. The piercings are $20 each unless its a special one like a Industrial (if I'm correct). It's a very in and out session but the staff is friendly and straightforward. I got 8 piercings here and I keep wanting to come back for more! I'm from the DMV area and usually piercings ranch about $40-70 each, so this is a steal. Instead of telling me that the pen and stencil he was gonna use wouldn't make the tattoo red, or changing the pen and stencil to make it actually red like i wanted, he just did it and now I have a half bluish black and half red tattoo that looks almost purple. This review is long overdue. I've gotten a piercing from them about two years ago and I've been wanting to take it out. No matter how well I try to keep it clean, it would just keep reinfecting itself. I wasn't even able to take it out myself as it wouldn't move. I called trying to make an appointment since I know how busy it was and they said no that I can just walk in. I did that a couple of times and the lines lasted hours. I went to a different piercing spot just to remove it. They had to use special tools to remove it as the ball was pretty stuck on. Probably one of the worst experiences i've ever encountered with a business in RVA.. and that's saying a lot. Not only were all of my piercings absolutely botched, but when I called the manager to inform him about his staff, he chewed me out and told me to "come talk to him in person" Anywho, I came into the place to get some help switching out a conch piercing that I got somewhere else about a year ago. (the piercing was fully healed) and instead, one of the piercers created about 3 different holes in the back of my ear trying to get it inside of my ear. Blood was dripping down the side of my ear as she proceeded to try and force the earring into a (clearly different) hole.. I had to move her hand away from my head and ask her to stop. She also was eating popcorn with her hands and didn't wash her hands before touching any of her other clients, including myself. After much research and reading reviews, I made the choice of contacting Lucky 13's very own Ethan Pease as the person of interest as the tattoo artist. Let me set up the scenario; I live in Texas, however, frequently visit Richmond due to the military life. So what better place to get tatted outside of Texas. I visited Lucky 13's website to learn that getting in touch with the artist would be best done through IG. On September 13, I reached out to Ethan on his IG. A month went by and no response. I decided to take a drive to the establishment and speak directly with Ethan on October 9th. After speaking and providing details of what I wanted, an appointment was set up for October 17. October 17th gets here and I get tatted. All goes well and the tattoo came out great. Before leaving Ethan gave, I'm sure, his normal spill; within a month and after the tattoo has healed, if a touch up is needed please come back. Well a month went by and the tattoo healed well. However, minor touch ups are needed. Once again, I started reaching out to Ethan via IG with no reply. At this time I am back in Texas, but die in VA this weekend, Nov 20th with a small window of opportunity. For an entire two weeks I reached out via IG and called Lucky 13 to briefly have an opportunity to speak direly with Ethan. On four occasions I was told by the young lady that answers the phone to reach out via IG. After learning that that avenue failed she placed me on hold. This occurred on November 11th. After a brief hold I am instructed to once again leave a message via IG. Supposedly, she took my IG name down to respond to my request. Today is November 21st and I have yet to hear back from anyone. Please note this review has nothing to do with the actual work, but rather the lack of customer service and their communication skills. Every establishment has a commitment to uphold and provide a customer service friendly environment. After numerous attempts to reach out in different forms I am very disappointed at the lack of interest giving to communicate back with customers. For that reason alone I would not visit Lucky 13 again. read more

I got my piercing a week before COVID hit back in 2020 March. I cannot tell you HOW AMAZING my experience was. The girl who did my piercing did it so smoothly. And the starter piercing they use is VERY good, trust me. I was confused at first because it was L-shaped and I would play with it and sometimes it would come out. But a few of my friends got piercings at other places and removing their starter piercing always caused bleeding/infection because it was weirdly shaped or just difficult to remove. My healing process was AMAZING. It's been over 2 years and my piercing has never been infected/doesn't hurt! Everyone else I know who've been to several other places have gotten infections. I've been there a couple of times over the years and all I can say is that it's a risk. There are some talented artists in there but some are ass - couldn't even pull a straight line. It's mostly walk-ins so I only go there for simple tattoos because they are so cheap. All things considered the prices are good for what you get. Don't listen to any of them for tattoo aftercare. Keep it covered for at least one day - it's heals better that way. The color is darker. Some tips if you decide to brave lucky: 1. Don't get something fancy on a walk-in, schedule an appointment 2. They're dicks 3. If someone puts a pad (or no cover at all) on your finished tattoo, take it off ASAP and replace it with a plastic cover (Saran wrap and tape or second skin) 4. The simpler the better 5. It's gonna be a long wait depending on when you go, bring a charged phone and snacks 6. Friday the thirteenth specials are an even longer wait (4+ hours) read more

For piercings, I think this place is great it's affordable and I have over 11 ear piercings and they're great. BUT. Tattoos are not done well here it's more about getting the client in and out of the door and there's poor communication since most of the time they expect you to contact the tattooer on their Instagram. I got scammed by Jerry who was rude and wasted my time and after looking at his work, I'm glad I didn't go to him. His work is not good and ages horrible. When I got my money back because he blew me off he DMed me some rude stuff. What a child read more
