I love coming here to get work done. Tannis has always been my go to! I have branched put and gotten work done by Isasha & I believe Caitlin (apprentice). From Tannis I love her traditional style, Isasha is the go to for anime and more! Isasha did an amazing piece for me of all game controllers I've played on in my life. Went to the other location for a walk-in but am not seeing a separate page - but this review is for the business as a whole, which is the same. I had a great first tattoo experience that was fast, fun, and painless. My wife (who has a lot of tats) and I (no tats) wanted to get a small matching text piece for a long time, and I finally worked up the courage. We brought in the book the quote we wanted tattooed was from, and the person at the front desk helped us by photocopying the passage and making copies of different sizes so we could compare. This was really helpful as it gave me a way to see how big or small the piece could be. After choosing, we were assigned two separate artists (I think to be fair to the artists by distributing walk-ins) but they were very understanding and my wife was allowed to wait for her appointment so she could sit with me while I got mine. Kayla was my artist (can't remember the name of my wife's artist, unfortunately) and she helped walk me through the process. I actually didn't think getting tatted was anywhere near as painful as I thought, so everything went quickly with quality work. After my wife got hers done, we checked out, and I even got a sticker for my first tattoo, which I thought was super cute. Overall, I would definitely come back here for more small walk-in pieces. While most of the artists have a more anime-inspired style for their main work which is beautiful but not really my aesthetic, I know I can deff trust their artists and will be back in the future. read more

I've now gone to black rabbit 3x. Nae did my initial, sister tattoo and dealt with 3 of us. I've seen Julisa since because I wanted to get some intricate color done. First, I appreciate that the shop does color tests for melaninated folks. Julisa walked me through the different colors that would look good on my skin type. She is also just lovely to talk to while getting the work done. I ended up going back to her to add onto the initial tatt to get a galaxy feel. I got my first ever tattoo at Black Rabbit in Sept 2022 with Ruth. I did months of research to find the best shop and artists for my vision, and drove 3 hours from Maryland for a 1/2 sleeve. I came in with a hand drawn design a friend made that Ruth amazingly made her own. The entire experience was extremely positive. The atmosphere of the shop is my dream setting- bright colors and anime everywhere. Ruth was a joy to work with and I've gotten 3 additional pieces from her since and I love all three. Went to this tattoo place. Looking to finish a back tattoo all fantasy art pieces. Met with artist 2 times. She was polite but did not understand what I wanted. She drew a full back piece with a big angel. Not like anything I showed her. Plus my back already has a large hourglass with raven and a flying bat on either side. I felt ignored. She seemed uninteresting in working with me. I brought books with pictures and tried to show her. She said just send name of book she would look up. Maybe I'm just too old school. I expect a tattoo artist to talk to me. Get to know what I want. Books are still how I view pictures. Yes, at 73, I don't see the internet as my go to for everything. I have 12 tattoos. All but one done by one artist. She moved and I no longer can use her talents. Still want more tats as they are therapeutic for me. Tattoos give me pain relief. The 8 spine surgeries I endured left me with chronic acute pain. I so very much want to find an artist willing to work with me. Have thoughts for at least another 12 tattoos. Very disappointed in Black Rabbit. I'll be looking elsewhere!!!!! read more

Cool shop itself but some of the artists have interesting prices like $300 for a small simple flash with no changes and the receptionist has no customer service and was not helpful at all. I get people don't have to be nice to everyone but it just felt like we were automatically being pushed out by them. They unfortunately have other bad reviews about the receptionist specifically and they just turned us off completely from the shop as a whole. It just feels like they pick and choose who they want in the shop, even though they promote as all inclusive. read more

Fantastic experience all around. Arrived about 10 minutes to noon on a Sunday and was 3rd in line for walkins. They were pretty steadily busy the whole time I was in there. Two lovelies behind the counter got us started on paperwork and collecting our ideas. Then I met Ellie, my artist. Super chill, professional, friendly, lovely person. Incredibly gentle tattooer and fantastic artist. I wish I had more time in the area so I could make an appointment and get something in her style. Overall, no complaints. I got a walk in tattoo with Julisa (make sure you show up before the shop opens to ensure an open walk in slot!) Absolutely gorgeous shop with very comforting and understanding staff. They really put an emphasis on making you feel safe and comfortable during the whole process, asking preferred name, pronouns, and even consent to touch you and start your tattoo. I have Tourette's so I'm always a bit nervous about an artist's reaction as I'm definitely not the ideal client do to, as my tics make their job harder sometimes. Julisa was incredibly understanding and unfazed to my Tourette's and reassured me that she could confidently tattoo me as she has experience with my condition. Black Rabbit was a great tattoo experience! I was able to book an appointment with the specific artist I wanted. She drew me up a gorgeous piece that was exactly what I wanted. The process was super quick, and the tattoo was done in less than 2 hours. I was quite jumpy/jittery because my pain tolerance is very low, but Sterling was super accommodating and kind. They set you up with everything you need to know for the healing process if you are a new canvas. I included a photo of my tattoo the day it was done and a photo of it after it was completely healed. I will definitely be going back to Sterling to add on to my tattoo collection. :) read more

I had heard such amazing things about this shop and was really excited to go to an all female-run place for once. Cant say I'll ever go back and get a tattoo there again. I got something incredibly small and simple (two small hands holding black hearts), and they messed up so now my tattoo has dots outside the lines where the gun must've slipped or something, and healed really patchy. They then charged me $150 for that tiny, simple tattoo that they messed up. Wish I could get a refund but I guess it's on my body forever now. read more

The artists at Black Rabbit are all clearly very talented and create a beautiful, welcoming atmosphere, but ultimately they make actually getting a tattoo difficult and unclear. Booking and walk-in availability is very decentralized and disorganized, with absolutely everything running through instagram updates. Even once you get in contact with a human being, there's a high chance of getting ghosted. I love the tattoo I got here, but as someone with ADHD who struggles a lot with scheduling inconsistency, I've found the process of getting into a chair pretty inaccessible. read more

2 stars - gave the extra star because the women here are talented, but my experience was unprofessional. I came in for two smaller pieces a few years ago, which healed sloopy and blown out. I reached back out to the shop to see if I can schedule, discuss, and PAY to have these bad tattoos covered - attempting to give this shop another chance. The front desk staff stated to reach out to the artists directly. I reached out to one, who said to check back in for bookings in early October. Being mid-october and haven't seen anything about bookings, I reached back out... no response. I reached back out to the general email to see if I could see another artist or get some contact info for the other artists in the shop. An employee called me to state 1) bookings are full for the next 2-3months (ok that's not a problem), 2) that she "can't just pick an artist for me" (not what I was asking when I asked for a list of artists and contact info), and 3) she can't provide much help if I don't use Instagram. At which the woman asked me "well how did know to reach out to X artist if you don't use instagram" - which I stated I had help/recommendations from friends. This question was unrelated and kind of out of place in all honesty. At this point, I decided that I will take my business elsewhere and spend my money towards a shop that actually wants to help me cover this bad tattoo up. The sad part in all this, is that I wasn't looking for any free services or discounts for their initial screw up - I just wanted them to make it right, and assist with scheduling a consult for a piece I can be proud of. As stated before, some of the artists here are super talented so I'm disappointed that the front desk woman had deterred me from moving forward with this booking. I'd also like to state that the two pieces I had done a few years ago were not only done poorly, but the consult service was awkward and slightly uncomfortable. Good luck to this shop, but I'd advise you all to work on your customer service skill, and communication between front desk to artist. read more

best tattoo shop i've ever been to! moved to richmond from southern california (subsequently leaving my artists behind) and was worried i would struggle finding a place/person i felt i could trust. HOWEVER, i could not have asked for a better find than this shop. all the artists are so talented and wonderful. i got a walk in done and it was so easy to check in, do the paperwork, and i was taken back pretty quickly. Taylor did my chest tattoo a little while ago and was so kind, made sure i was comfortable throughout the entire experience, and was adamant that i let her know if i wanted the stencil moved or redone (which was totally unnecessary because she killed the design and placement first try). the pricing was also super fair and i felt totally satisfied with the money i was spending. i can't wait to go back! :'-) read more

I could not have enough great things to say about Black Rabbit! I walked in on a Wednesday right after they opened, and within 5 minutes had filled out my form and was consulting with the walk-in artist, Jenna, on what I wanted. She gave me several options to choose from, which I hadn't even received from artists I'd made appointments with. She was efficient and friendly, with the tattoo process itself taking about 6 minutes, and the whole process from walking in to paying took about 35 minutes. Jenna is a wonderful artist and I couldn't be more pleased with how my tattoo looks! I paid $60 plus a large tip because of how pleased I was. The all-female staff is a huge bonus!
