For the uninitiated, mofongo is a dish from Puerto Rico featuring plantains as its main ingredient. They are picked green, cut into pieces & typically fried, then pounded in a wooden pilón (mortar and pestle) with a variety of spices, broth & some type of cooking oil . A ton of steak with a good amount of melty cheese topped with a spicy sauce. Hubby loved it! I saw a guy order a slab of meat & I went up afterwards to inquire what it was. A perfectly fried chicharrón - fried pork belly. It was a good combination of meat, fat & crunchy bits. As a German, I was introduced to grilled schweinebauch as a kid. It is not everyone's cup of tea because of the fat content & idea of eating pig's stomach but I love it. I should have bought another one to take with me for later! Donatello's makes a number of fresh juices & we ordered the passionfruit which was a refreshingly sweet & sour combo. They also sell desserts but we were so full that I didn't even look to see what was offered. Since Pasta was in the name, I figured it might be more of a market than a grinder shop and I decided to visit. It was actually more of a grinder shop that sold some fresh pasta and sauces and things that you would expect a grinder shop to have. I honestly thought about walking out without buying anything, but I kept thinking about that awesome looking Italian Trio (basically like an Italian Combo) grinder. I decided to order a small, take some pics and a couple of bites, and save the rest for later since I had lunch plans. This grinder was my ideal Italian Combo. First off, the small was huge. Full size at most places. I ate it over the course of two days. I ordered it with lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, cucumbers, provolone, Oil and Vinegar, Salt and Pepper, and Mayo. The three meats were pepperoni, Genoa salami and capicola. The bread was good, fresh and up to the job of holding the ingredients. There were about six slices of meats, but they folded them around the inside of the bun (cut on one side) so you were really getting about 12 layers in each bite. And the inside was stuffed with the veggies and other toppings. So stuffed that the toppings fell out as you were taking bites. But that was actually great from my perspective, because you could just pick up the fallen toppings and put them exactly where you were going to bite next. I've been to a lot of highly rated grinder shops in CT. I don't think I've had a better Italian combo. The ingredients were all great. It was a well constructed sandwich. You got bits and pieces of most of the stuff in each bite. Ingredients were in the right proportion. It was salty. Acidic. Juicy. Great contrasting textures. This was a text book Italian Combo Grinder. Now if you live near Mystic, getting a grinder from Pasta Fresca is a no brainer because you can take it home. If you're not from the Mystic area, there was a bit of seating. Seating may be hit or miss though. In any event, if you can figure out where you're going to eat the Italian Trio, you're going to love it. Can't believe I've never heard of this place. 5 Stars

Disgusting and unbelievably irresponsible diner that targets mental handicaps! i came here in the rain to eat, and the diner was really cold, they left their AC on and my girlfriend was getting sick inside the diner. i didn't have wifi on my phone and asked if they could order me a cab while we ate their nasty greasy food.the janitor tried to drive my autistic girlfriend home and was flirting with her while i was eating with her at the dinner table. the unprofessional rude waitress tried to provoke it by saying "he'll take good care of you" and it is a family run diner. i told them no i'll take a cab and left with her immediately, without tipping or finishing my greasy food which was thrown out. it was a terrible experience. i'm never going here again as long as i live. the janitor had no business flirting with my girlfriend, so the next day i called up and asked for the manager to complain. the manager told me over the phone it "didn't happen like that' and talked over me saying "here is what's going to happen" and i told them shes extremely rude and i don't care for her response, she had zero respect for me or my disabled girlfriend. these people are really mean spirited, and i can't believe how bad of an experience i had here! read more

Coming back from NYC we were looking for a nice deli to stop at for a quick lunch. Herb's was just what we wanted and more. The service was personable, accommodating and not pushy. The soup and 2 sandwiches we ordered were fresh and very filling. My boyfriend took a bite of his and said "This is a killer Roastbeef Sandwich." to which i replied nope mine is better. I had a toasted turkey, cranberry, cheese - oh yum! Our fun did not stop there we went next door to the general store and took home local fresh produce and meats. I recently visited Herbs Country Store and was absolutely delighted by their amazing, healthy assortment of plants! From fragrant herbs to vibrant flowers, as well as a beautiful selection of perennials and annuals, they truly have something for every gardener. I picked out a wonderful variety of plants and had such a rewarding experience planting them. Definitely a must try. This quaint restaurant serves amazing food with farm fresh ingredients! If you go for a weekend brunch expect a wait. I went with some friends for Sunday breakfast and we had a 10 minute wait for a table (well worth it). In the meantime, we walked over to their country store that sells an abundance of local produce, jams, sauces, etc. They even served us free samples as we walked in!
