The moment we walked in we were greeted and made to feel welcome. We grabbed a high top near a table for 20! But it didn't matter to the staff in the front or back of house. Our server was fantastic, always checking in throughout the meal. The food was fresh and delicious. I can not begin to find the words to express how good the food is here. We came here about 18 years ago. It was fire then too. We started with a bowl of clam chowder and conch chowder. The clam chowder was divine! Full of clams and flavor. The conch fritters were the best I have ever had. We live in Florida and have tried several. The waiter was fast and pleasant. She recommended the Asian tacos with tuna. Let me tell you, GET THE ASIAN TACOS! So bright and full of flavor. My hubby got a Mahi sandwich. The filet was so big and fresh. Five bright and shiny starts indeed! Super duper cute! Such a cool place! I picked this Restaurant for our last night in marathon and surprised my husband. He said, "Yes! This is the kind of place I like!" There are three different areas/sections you can sit. I can see how this place is popular, especially with Guy Fieri's visit. Pretty good for a dive bar... we ordered the Red Neck Reuben (brisket was more like a sliced pot roast) and fried chicken sandwich with a side of the pickled vegetables (tasted like sweet mixed pickles). The food was not hot... There were two separate bars, a separate porch dining area and more seating and live music out back. Not enough tables/seating for us to sit out back with the live music, so that was a bummer. Our waitress was pretty quick and friendly, despite covering multiple dining sections. We had a very good experience at Porky's the night before, which was a tough act to follow, but Herbie's did ok. read more

We stumbled upon Herbie's on our 1 night in Marathon. What a great surprise! We were shocked it was not busier for a Saturday as we had the backyard nearly to ourselves. After starting with a Short Rib Poutine (which was outstanding), the rest of our meal consisted of, Ahi Asian Tacos, Fish and Chips, Kids Mac' N Cheese, and Ahi Poke Bowl. All were simply spectacular, clearly scratch made and we cleaned every plate!! Even the kids mac' n cheese was incredible. When our youngest left to play Jenga and Cornhole, we were excited to finish his plate...OUTSTANDING! We were glad to see the place filling up as we left, so hopefully Herbie's will get stay at the top for years to come. We'll be back for sure! read more

Best Fries!! Really the best Fish and Chips I remember having. What they say about the slaw being good is true. The fish is really good MahiMahi. The fries are addictive! I have been avoiding fried foods for awhile and have been ignoring fries in general, especially when I see shoe string fries. These were nice and crispy, not limp and greasy but it is the seasoning that makes these standout.... Maybe ranch seasoning, but whatever it is, very tasty. Not super salty either. Desiring some local flavor and flair, we decided to try Herbie's after seeing it on Yelp. Come to find out this place was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives which means Guy Fieri visited to check out the scene. The place is what you might expect from the pictures, a charming, divey local watering hole that serves a somewhat eclectic menu with some solid standard items. It was once known as a "seafood" house but I found that the menu leaned heavily toward meat like bbq and wings. They do offer their famous clam chowder, however, and they have house made smoked fish dip but I believe the menu has changed periodically over the years. If you're looking for craft beer and some home-style type grub then this is the place. We ordered take-out at the bar and brought it back to our hotel. My steamed clams were good and the sauce was tasty albeit a bit salty. The bread accompanying it was nice. I also ordered the smoked fish dip which I very much enjoyed. My family and the area I'm from are heavy on smoking and BBQ This place is the best BBQ I've had EVER I usually do not get the brisket anywhere because I'm picky, this was unbelievable You could tell everything was homemade - the baked beans and coleslaw were my choices. I cannot say enough about the food. The service was also the best. Sam was our waitress and she was informative and on top of everything. I want to spend my whole vacation eating here. I'm a fan of hole in the walls and dive bars -- and especially places that cater to the locals. I found this place on Yelp and decided that next time I was in the area, I'd make sure to visit. We came for a casual dinner -- after a couple days of expensive seafood. The place was packed when we arrived. We took an open table inside. All seats are high tops here -- either at the bar, the long table in the middle or the 3 four-tops by the wall. Speaking of walls, they're decorated with beer signs and other decals. One of the flat screen televisions over the bar shows the numerous beers they have on tap. The menu is more limited now. Not everything you see online is available all the time. There are also blackboard specials. There was still enough from which to choose. We had their wonderful pork belly ends. A bit fatty, but rich in flavor. These were very good. We also had a half dozen broiled oysters (a nightly special) with garlic Parmesan. They were okay. Then we added a burger with fries. This was good. And took a piece of their lemon icebox cake to go. It could have been a bit more lemony. But I'm glad we tried it so now we know what it is. Service was friendly. It got a bit loud at one point inside the place, but it was bearable. Popular "hole in the wall" hangout with good food. The place was packed when we visited! They have a limited menu, but with some of the most popular dishes still being offered. Service was great and the kitchen was fast. The Pork Belly Burnt Ends were delicious. We enjoyed some fire roasted oysters and a burger cooked as requested. Started with a pear cider and a spearfish. Both were delicious. And cold. Tried the smoked fish dip - although it isn't a "dip" as much as a pate-like consistency. Very light and tasty. Chunks of fish in it. The crackers it came with were just okay. Split the Asian tacos. Two slice of delicious tuna...would've liked a bit more. Loaded with slaw so it's a full taco, but the slaw takes over and you don't even notice the tuna. read more

Herbie's will now be a must for us when we go to the keys!! We live in south Florida and get to the keys a few times a year, but had never tried Herbie's before. It's small, and looks like a dive bar from the outside...but this is not bar food. They have a very nice variety of options on the menu, and everything we tried was ::chefs kiss:: delicious. We split the conch fritters which were excellent. I had the chicken fried chicken over smashed potatoes and green beans (half order was more than enough!), and it's now one of my favorite meals ever. My friend had the Floribbean tacos which she enjoyed. She had the key lime pie, I had the s'mores dip...I will dream of the s'mores dip for the rest of my days. Highly recommend Herbie's! read more

The restaurant is broken into several rooms/spaces - some indoors and loud, some outdoors and warm. All sections definitely fit the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives vibe - mostly dive ;-). The staff were friendly. The meals all decent but nothing outstanding. Dishes ordered that were better than others were the Conch chowder and the Cheeseburger in Parafries (definitely something to share w/ more than 2) Not any culinary must-have but all in all, a very pleasant experience if you happen to be in the keys. read more
