I have SHIP and this dentist was in my network. Like others mentioned, I should've checked reviews before scheduling an appointment. He was not able to view X-rays in office and seemed to use them as his only way to identify cavities (or maybe someone else did that?!?). He seems to be the only one working in his office and answers his own phone/follows up over text. I had two appointments with him before switching dentists. At both appointments he did a surface level cleaning with a pick and said I had no cavities. I seriously question his eyesight. After visiting another dentist 6 months later, they said I had 5 cavities and one was so bad I nearly had to have a root canal. Thankfully they were miracle workers and filled my cavity without needing a root canal. I'm no dental expert, but I highly doubt my teeth developed all of these issues within 6 months of my last cleaning... PLEASE AVOID FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH! read more

Dr." HERBERT HARRISON is not a real dentist. He gets upset when u ask what dental school he went to. Also, said he can't give me my X-ray results in the same appointment. He took X-rays and said he had to send them somewhere for the result and never heard back! Also what dentist can't provide results of the X-ray immediately??? NOT A REAL DENTIST. He scraped my teeth with a tool you can get off Amazon for 1 hr. My teeth looked the same as when I get there... asked him why. He said " I can't work miracles." Went to another dentist my teeth are perfect! All the scraping did nothing what so ever. The tool he used to actually wash my teeth was something similar to what Amazon sells as well. read more

A THIEF! That's what this so-called "dentist" is. I came in because of a toothache and he insisted on taking full x-rays before anything was done. Took the x-rays and could not determine the source of the problem, and insisted I needed a tooth cleaning. I told him I had a tooth cleaning 2 weeks prior to seeing him, so he prescribed me antibiotics instead. Pain went away, but came back full-force a month later. Insisted on taking x-rays AGAIN, could not find a problem, and told me to deal with the pain and gave me a free tube of Sensodyne tooth paste, saying it should help with my problem. I thought I needed a root canal, but he told me to not worry about it until several years down the line. He said that if the pain persists for another 6 months then to come back and we'll start again from square one. Long story short, went to a more qualified dentist and he did a few tests and thought I needed a root canal. Referred me to a specialist who agreed with the prognosis, and told me we probably could have saved the root had the first dentist noticed the signs and that waiting the few months/years as Harrison suggested would have resulted in a lot of pain for me and possibly losing my tooth. Crazily, that is not why he got 1 star. If I could give him 0 stars I would. He billed my insurance for a fluoride treatment, teeth cleaning, and an "emergency procedure." He NEVER gave me the fluoride treatment nor the teeth cleaning. And giving me tooth paste is an "emergency procedure" that warrants $150? I hope this guy gets busted for fraud. read more

This guy was scary. The X-ray machines look like they're from the 50's. The glue and piece that this guy used to fix my chipped tooth fell off in two days. Answers his own phone and seems disorganized. He texted me later that day a reminder for someone else about their annual checkup. Was a traumatic experience. read more

I came in to fix up a tooth that suddenly broke off in the weekend. Dr. Harrison took me in as a new patient under short notice and was able to quickly put in a filling for my broken tooth. The office seemed a little outdated compared to what I'm used to back at home but the procedure was overall painless and professional. Fantastic place, especially for Berkeley students with SHIP Insurance! I came here in 2018 the day before my SHIP Insurance benefits were about to expire. I was looking for a dentist who could take me in for teeth cleaning within a day, and Dr. Harrison could! His office is quiet, and at first I had some questions because the office was quaint, but Dr. Harrison quickly took care of me. He was so gentle and sweet, and my experience here turned out to be fantastic. He did a wonderful job on my teeth cleaning and was easy to talk to. Additionally, there was no copay, and SHIP covered the rest, so I paid nothing that day for my cleaning! It was a very relaxing experience. I am so glad I came to him and would recommend him for all Berkeley students! I wish I would have discovered this dentist sooner- I would have been coming to him all 4 years of Cal. read more

I recently came to see Dr. Harrison for a checkup and was quite pleased with my visit. Dr. Harrison was extremely friendly and very thorough in checking different parts of my teeth, when I told him I was experiencing pain. I was able to schedule a visit pretty quickly and was seen as soon as I filled out my paperwork. As a college student whose primary dentist is not in Berkeley, I was nervous in trying to find a dentist in the area. I would most definitely come back to see Dr. Harrison and would recommend him to any friends I have who are searching for a dentist. Lastly, he is located quite close to campus which makes a visit to his office quite convenient! read more

Sketchy! Went in for just gluing in a loose crown since my normal dentist wasn't in the Berkeley area. He decided to sneak in a couple of x-rays and a deep cleaning without consulting me and kept me in the office for over 1.5 hours (Slow day for them I guess). The bill came out to be over $400 (and came 5 months later too, I guess they don't have their paperwork in order very well) for what would've otherwise been a simple procedure. My dentist said they didn't do a good job with gluing either. I will be avoiding this place. read more

I was Dr. Harrison's patient for three years when I lived in Berkeley for college and graduate school. I was very impressed that ALL dental care (x-rays, brushing/flossing, cleaning, etc) was done by the Dr. himself, not by a technician. Dr. Harrison was helpful in getting me to have better hygiene habits, in particular introducing me to brushing and flossing with mouthwash, which eliminated most of my gingivitis problems. He has an excellent, easygoing bedside manner. Highly recommend. read more

I recommend anyone to go see Dr. Harrison especially if you live in the area. Great location for college students. He's personable and understanding because we all know dentist visits can be the least desirable especially if you don't take care of your teeth. I personally never come in with dental problems because I have great teeth thanks to the knowledge Dr. Harrison has given me over the years on how to properly brush and floss so you don't have to come in complaining about a tooth ache from eating too much candy in your life :) read more

Dr. Harrison is am amazing Dentist and I couldn't ask for anyone better. He is amazing and very gentle to the touch. He is very knowledgeable of what he does and is very informative. One of my fillings fell out, and upon calling Dr. Harrison, he took me into his office for my filling at the earliest opening and the procedure was quick, calming, and well done. He is very careful about his practice and took very good care of me. I would highly recommend him to anyone and am confident in his skills. I'm fairly sure this person is not a dentist. He said he had never seen a physical SHIP insurance card even though he claimed to have worked in Berkeley for many years. He was very evasive when I asked him about how long he practiced for and whether he saw many Berkeley students. I came in for a tooth cleaning and he forgot to clean one side of my mouth until I told him. The whole experience felt unprofessional, like this was the first time he had ever done this. There was no sink to spit into. He has no staff and answers his own phone and I didn't see a single diploma anywhere. Shame on me for not doing my due diligence. I don't know what Ryan T. is going on about. Dr Harrison is friendly and thorough, and really knows what he's doing. I went for a check-up and cleaning for the first time, and he found a cavity I needed to fix so I went a second time. Both times he was on top of his stuff. I asked several questions and he answered them thoroughly and honestly. His practice is also transparent with pricing; they'll let you know in advance what options there will be and exactly how much you'ld be expected to pay. read more
