She had all four impacted wisdom teeth surgery during winter break with the oral surgeon in our hometown. She was good for the post-op but suddenly developed jaw and gum pain along with face swelling yesterday. She was scared and away from home. Luckily, I found Dr. Irving on Yelp. Called right at 8am this morning and Cissy, who answered the phone, was professional, understanding, and patient with this worried mom! She scheduled my daughter for this afternoon and was clear on what Dr. Irving needed from the other oral surgeon before the appt. And to fill out the Patient Registration form on their website. My daughter was cared for by Dr. Irving - both infected sides were numbed and cleaned out. He also wanted to evaluate her to make sure antibiotics were necessary. He reassured her that her recovery would be easier than after her surgery. He got her in and out. Dr. Irving and all the office personnel were so helpful and welcoming. My husband had an appointment to get a tooth extracted. We were in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. Dr. Irving and the assistants were very thorough in explaining the processes and after surgery care. I was able to stay with my husband up until it was time to for the extraction and was lead to a private room to wait until the procedure was done. Which was less than 15 minutes. What I really appreciate is Dr. Irving went out of his way to reach out after surgery, around 7/8pm to check on how my husband was doing. That meant a lot to us. They made sure we felt at home during our visit and made sure we knew we could contact them at anytime with questions or concerns. Highly recommend this office. read more

I was seen by Dr. Irving today for two difficult extractions and bone scraping under the gum. I was really worried about it but the Care I received was so extraordinary that I didn't need to be. Even the shots into the roof of my mouth were not that bad. And my recovery was much easier than I expected. To top it off, I received a call tonight from Dr. Irving checking on how I was. Parents considering this practice for your child's procedure, be warned: if your child has a phobia of needles or anxiety in medical settings, this is not the place for them. Our experience was beyond traumatic, for our child and for us. Our 9-year-old's procedure was a cascading disaster that resulted in a flustered surgeon who didn't take the time to treat patient or parent with adequate care, communication, or calm decision-making. Even the receptionist tried to make us dissociate and disconnect from the sound of our anguished, terrified child in the operating room rather than validate the alarming situation. This experience will haunt us as parents and we can only hope our child doesn't live with medical trauma that impacts her choice to seek necessary healthcare in the future. read more

Summation of my Critique of the Berkeley Oral Surgery Clinic: The significance of this treatise, on the abusive and abrasive treatment from both the DDS and the Oral Surgeon Clinic staff, is well documented by the internet critiques you can easily find. This apparently does not change their poor treatment of the patients. If Mobati et. al. can dismiss an 85 yo patient on false premises, no patient is safe from dismissal! This appears to be a totally arbitrary decision to deny treatment; if you ask to waive the fee; the scam Consulting Fee! For my part, I gave as much information to Mobati, as he gave about the removal of the cracked tooth, # 19. I then asked to waive the implant tooth consultation fee, and Mobati gave me this waiver, as well. Instead of honoring his commitment of the waivers, he lied and used it to pivot from his decision, to a dismissal from the Clinic. As a senior scientist chemist, with over a 60 year career, I know what to label Daniel Mobati, as truly unprofessional, a liar, and a abusive DDS; for example, the many scenarios I have presented, including my own analysis! The bottom line to remember in my treatise is that this Berkeley Oral Surgery Clinic is more interested in $$$ rather than your oral health!! I would only hope my critique of this unprofessional Berkeley Oral Surgery Clinic will provide information to future potential patients to avoid this type of abusive behavior, from both the DDS and their staff, and to take your dental oral surgery problems to other more humane clinics! The systematic abuse of patients, and their focus on consultation fees, some hidden, is unprecedented in my opinion. I have never been asked by any MD or DDS to pay a consultation fee! I will share with you that since I was a child I always had anxiety when it came to any dental work. Bryan Krey, DMD is amazing on many levels. First he is genuinely nice, he openly addresses any concern you might have and let's you know the best approach to take and answers any question you might have. Throughout the procedure he checked to make sure I was comfortable or feeling any pain. The procedures are as quick as they can be while still performing excellent work. I can not say enough good things about Doctor Krey. I want to also add that this extends to the rest of the staff that are customer oriented and professional. The only minor negative is a couple who were what I would say is that a couple of employees over the edge with regard to masks. Mine slipped down once or twice below my nose and before I could bring it back the person was upon me like a lion going for antelope telling me I was wearing my mask improperly. Dr. Brian Krey represents the gold standard in oral surgery. From the moment he calls you for a pre-op consultation, you know that you are in good hands. He listens attentively to your concerns and he addresses them with clarity. On the day of the extraction his calming chair side manner further reduces your anxiety because he tells you exactly what is going to happen and when it is going to happen. He runs a collegial practice recognizing his very able support staff: he will tell you that there is no "I" in "Team." Mio, his surgical assistant, wastes no time starting the nitrous oxide when she sees that your BP is spiking at 145/98. (More than a little white coat hypertension in my case.) When the procedure is done, she explains how you will care for the affected area at home. I would also like to give a big shout out to Sharon who booked my appointment. My heart sank when she first told me that it looked like Dr. Krey was booked solid until August but I heard her fingers fly over her keyboard and almost cried when she found an opening for the surgery two days later. I'm new to the area and had a small scooter fall on a Friday evening. The Monday after I tried hard to find any dentist who would give my teeth a check (I knew there was damage) and only one practice (Sonja Garden) that I called would make time to see me that week. After looking at my mouth she was concerned that there was a possible jaw injury and therefore made the referral (with an urgent request) to this practice. They were shockingly able to make time for me the same day and I just walked over. I did the full mouth x-ray and saw Dr. Krey who quickly and efficiently told me my jaw was fine and pointed out on the x-ray how he could tell. He did also point to a tooth that has needed extraction for a while and I said "yeah maybe I can schedule with you guys to get that out a bit later". He responded, "we could just do it today if you want, I think I have time to pop it out" (something along those lines, I was amused). 1-1/2 hours later I left a tooth lighter. Though it was a rear molar that required drilling to divide and was more difficult than expected to remove (it just didn't want to leave me), post-opp has been fine. I will likely get the implant at this practice. As others have mentioned billing as a concern, it seemed quite logical and consistent to me. Like all Dentists, they told me a total value for services (for me X-ray and extraction) stating that they would take x dollars of the total now and try to bill the rest to insurance. Frequently dental insurance claims suck so I expect to owe them a bit more. read more

I am a recent Berkeley grad and it was almost August when I realized my SHIP insurance would almost expire. I was advised by my dentist to get my wisdom teeth out but I kept putting it off until recently. I decide to pay a visit to Dr. Mobati per my friend's recommendation. Pre-op consultation: I met w/ Dr. Mobati who thoroughly explained to me how he would take out my 3 impacted and 1 partially erupted wisdom teeth with the aid of my X-ray picture. Because my impacted teeth were very slanted and deep under my gum, it was advised that I go under gen. anesthesia during the surgery. He gave me a prescription for Vicodin and antibiotics to take before I have my surgery. The secretaries were also really accommodating in scheduling my pre-op appt on such a short notice. Surgery day: I opted for an afternoon surgery because my ride was not available until then. A day before surgery they call you to make sure you do not eat anything 8 hours prior to surgery. Supposedly the surgery took about an hour but it went by as quick as a wink thanks to the gen. anesthesia. They were nice enough to wheelchair me down to my mother's car afterward. I was provided with a care package of extra gauze, instant ice packets, chapstick, and my own wisdom teeth. Dr. Mobati called me later that night to make sure I was okay, which I thought was really nice. Post-op appt: This was a super quick appt. I met w/ an assistant who checked on my holes to make sure they were not infected. I got a syringe to squirt warm water into the holes to ensure that no food was stuck in the holes which can lead to infection. Recovery process: I must say that I was in a bit of pain and there was swelling for approx. 4 days after surgery. My impacted teeth meant more trauma to my gums, so there was lots of swelling and bruising (nothing that makeup couldn't fix though!). Ice and hot water bottles came in handy for the swelling and bruising. For the pain I used up about 1/2 my bottle of Vicodin before switching over to Advil for moderate pain management. My stitches melted away about 10 days after surgery. Overall, if you're a Berkeley student, definitely come here because it's pretty much walking distance from campus. Spring break, winter break, or summer break would be the best times to do this procedure because you should give yourself about a week to recover before returning back to school or work. In the meantime, get the squishy foods ready and relax with a Netflix marathon while you heal! read more

Two or 3 months ago I woke up w/ jaw pain. I have been waiting for it to get better and then a while ago I noticed my bite was off, so I made an appointment to see my dentist, Dr. Iwane in El Cerrito, a couple of weeks ago. He checked me over and referred me to Berkeley-Orinda Oral Surgery. I called and spoke w/ Kimberly, who was very kind and patient in scheduling an appointment w/ Dr. Krey. The patience was needed because I was hoping for an afternoon appointment, since I stay up late and sleep late. An afternoon wasn't available. 10:30 this morning was, so I took it. There was an online form to complete giving medical history, medications etc. Dr. Iwane's office sent a referral w/ other information. Kimberly texted me reminders, confirmations and information about the process of arriving, texting them and then waiting in the car until texted to come up, and then an online COVID questionnaire. Very thorough and complete. This morning I gave myself enough time to get across town and was able to score the blue spot in front of the building. I texted that I was there a little early and would wait for their text. When it was 10:45 I texted to check whether they had received my first text and Kimberly told me to come up. The building is two stories w/ a small elevator. I made my way to the reception desk and checked in, then used their bathroom, which is down the hall. I was taken to the examining room, where there were two chairs, a cushioned one that was too low and another one that was straight backed and a good height, which I took. After a brief wait Dr Krey came in. He was wonderful, kind, a good listener and a good explainer. He ordered x-rays and Georgetta took them, w/ an amazing stand-up panoramic x-ray machine. Then Dr. Krey went over the x-ray w/ me and explained what was going on, that it was inconvenient but nothing dire. Thank you to Dr. Mobati and his amazing assistant Georgetta for making my wisdom teeth removal experience as painless as possible! I was incredibly nervous to go under anesthesia, so Dr. Mobati explained that I could go with a laughing gas & local anesthesia option. On the day of the surgery although I was feeling very anxious, both Dr. Mobati and Georgetta were incredibly kind, patient, and comforting and made me feel as at ease as possible. The surgery was so quick and painless, it was probably over in a matter of 30 mins! I am writing this review exactly 9 days post wisdom teeth removal. In the first week I had minimal swelling and was able to manage my pain with ibuprofen. After 6 days I was able to incorporate normal foods into my diet! And now I feel completely back to normal, woo hoo! Dr. Mobati & Georgetta give very detailed & specific instructions on how to take care of your wisdom teeth sockets post operation, and because of that my recovery was very uncomplicated and quick (just follow instructions)! All in all, I couldn't recommend Dr. Mobati & Georgetta more and will forever be thankful for their kindness and care in removing my wisdom teeth! They are true professionals! read more

Very poor and unethical service. I was surprised to see the other ratings as my experience was appalling. #12 removal, firstly their receptionist informed me that I was not covered by my Insurance (even though I checked with them beforehand and it was confirmed they had renewed) - btw - they were when it came to the bill!! I arrived early to ensure billing was taken care of before my procedure - I had checked what this was beforehand by phone. There was no attempt to go through this, but I was led into the surgery and then injected with anesthetic, which was pretty painful (of course). I was then informed that we needed to go through the billing and payment whilst I was in the chair, feeling very uncomfortable, etc. Of course, there were additional costs that needed to be included. I would not recommend it, as it is highly unethical. If you do, ensure you have insurance and the cost predetermined beforehand. read more

Hi Folks, So, like many of the people who made reviews here, I am terrified of needles, and therefore a lot of dentist and doctor appointments which involve needles. So, knowing I had to get a couple teeth pulled was something I put off for 10-15 years. My dentist kept warning me the wisdom teeth were looking worse, and if I didn't get them out, I'd be having bone loss which would spread to the molar next to it. Anyhow, I couldn't take putting it off anymore, and so I decided to get this procedure and health issue out of my life! My dentist in Oakland recommended this office, and I'm so glad she did. I had Dr. Krey as my doctor/surgeon, and he is kind, professional and funny! He really put me at ease. I am scared of medicine as well-- so I was strongly resistant to getting sedation. I didnt want any more medicine in my system than necessary. But all my friends/family, and Dr Krey were saying it is truly the best way to do it. He said I'd be happy to have that experience and see how great it is. I was scared ----less, but I decided to get the anesthesia, and truly, I am SO GLAD I DID. I've had 4 teeth pulled before all with local injection, and it's true it was only about 20 minutes. (I did one at a time as needed). But this time was 2, they were on the top, and I knew the needles would have to go in the roof of my mouth which is VERY painful. So again, thats why I opted for the anesthesia, knowing and trusting these surgeons truly do this all day/every day. Dr Krey told me at my consultation he did 7 per day. Wow! Truly, they are EXPERTS. The day of, I kept telling myself I just had to get myself into the dentist chair, and from there, it would be quick, just 1 needle. I admit (and thought of giving 4 stars) the nurse with him was not very warm, just business-like. She must know how nervous people are, and she didn't take the effort to be kind and soothing. Only when I told her how nervous I was did she begin chatting with me, but I REALLY needed that warmth from her. When Dr Krey came in we had a short chat about what to do (I was debating keeping 1 of the teeth) and we talked it out. He didn't rush me, but he did need to get going and know what I wanted to do. In the end I opted to get both teeth removed, so I never have to (hopefully) go back and go through this again!!! I was asking a couple questions as he was putting in the needle for the IV (painless! he is great at it and he sprays your arm with a numbing spray). I was honestly trying to connect with the nurse, but she was standing kind of behind me to my left, and I couldn't see her well. I asked if she would hold my hand while I was going to sleep (yes, I am a giant baby with a phobia of this stuff) and Dr Krey made a joke that he actually needed to concentrate. (he is a witty guy) I was trying to explain that I meant the *nurse*, and was wanting to talk with her, but then I was out and asleep. Kind of funny actually to fall asleep while you are trying to explain something! When I woke up, as everyone says, I had no pain, and all was well. They said I did great, and told me how to use the gauze and ice-packs. My husband came in after a couple minutes, and we went out together. Sergio, a very kind nurse, wheeled me out in a wheelchair to the car. This is a great facility, and I would definitely go back if I ever have to get oral surgery again. However, I do wish the nurse that day was more forthcoming and warm. I really needed that, it would have meant a LOT to me, and I'm sure other patients need it too. Also, the lady at the desk was a bit snippy with me, commenting on how many emails/questions I had before the procedure. Not necessary. This is my body/my health, and I have a right to ask questions. I had 4 wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Mobati and the oral surgery was fine. My negative review is based on how they handled the billing. They provided a quote months before my surgery during an initial consultation. On the day of the surgery, they calculated the fees and I paid their bill of $233.80. Months later, I received an additional bill for $273.80 with no explanation of why, and then they sent a collection agency after me when I didn't pay it. I'm writing a review about a year after getting my wisdom teeth removed. Upon arriving the experience was great. The wait was little and staff were friendly. I gotta say I was pretty nervous to get my wisdom teeth removed. I was a freshman college student and it was the first time going to the dentist without my family. After getting x-rays, I found out I had four wisdom teeth, while only two had grown out. When I met with Dr. Mobati, he went gave me the options of going under anesthesia or getting a simple local anesthesia injection. I opted for the anesthesia and also chose to take out all four wisdom teeth to avoid having more infections in the future. Dr. Mobati was nice enough to explain the entire process of getting my wisdom teeth removed and gave me everything that would be necessary for before and after the surgery. As for payments, I have a simple student healthcare plan and I can definitely say it was extremely affordable for getting all four wisdom teeth removed under anesthesia. After my consultation with Dr. Mobati, I sat with a staff member who reviewed the costs with me to ensure I understood everything. The day of the surgery was the same experience. The wait was little and I went under surgery quickly after being prepped. I was met by my partner after and we were escorted out to our ride. The pain was very minimal, only once did I decide to take pain medication because the swelling was bad. I received a phone call the day after to schedule a follow-up visit to make sure my mouth was healing properly. I felt very knowledgeable on how to take care of my mouth because of Dr. Mobati's instructions. My mouth has since healed nicely and there have been no complications since then. It was overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend this location for wisdom teeth removal. read more

Our 6yr old son rather urgently needed 2 extractions last month. My son has a history of being extremely nervous at the dentist, but the staff at Aloha Pediatric Dentistry highly recommended Dr. Bryan Krey whom they promised has amazing rapport with the little ones. Upon requesting Dr. Krey, it turned out he was going on vacation soon and wasn't able to see patients until about a month out, but after explaining our situation, the receptionist at Berkeley-Orinda Oral Surgery said she'd see if Dr. Krey could make something work. To my amazement, the office let us know that Dr. Krey was willing to squeeze us in first thing the next morning. I went to the office the next morning with my son, prepared to ask a million questions about anesthesia, etc. Dylan and I were escorted to a little patient office and he was given a big, soft recliner to sit in. Dr. Krey met us shortly after and I was blown away at how he immediately struck up a rapport with my son, making him feel comfortable and brave. He's kind, clam, soft spoken, and provided me with a few options to choose from for my son's pain management, letting my son and I pick which worked the best for my son. We went with the "happy drink", what seemed like a couple ounces of a liquid that would make him feel groggy during the procedure though he would not remember the surgery itself. It kicked in after about 10min and at that point, a nurse came in and escorted us to the surgery room. I had to wait in the patient room while my son underwent his extractions. The surgery probably lasted around 15-20min. When it was over, I was brought back to see my boy, who was awake and, though really out of it, in good spirits. The nurse explained he kept spitting the gauze out and that I'd need to redress the surgery sites myself when we got home. She proceeded to show me how dress his sockets, but when I saw my son's bloody gums, I got extremely light headered. I sat down on a chair and explained I was getting a little dizzy. The next thing I know, I was coming to - I'd fainted and had a small seizure as I came back to consciousness. Dr. Krey was holding one hand and a nurse was holding my other. The other nurses had rushed in to help and escorted my son to a side room to shield him from the commotion. Dr. Krey instructed the nurses to put me in the surgery chair to monitor me where they took my blood pressure and applied a cold compress to my head. It took me a few minutes to really get my full vision and mental clarity back. Dr. Krey explained that it's common to have a small seizure after a fainting spell, but that he didn't want me driving anywhere and I needed to stay under observation until he was "110% sure" I was ready to drive away. Shortly after I joined my son in a big, soft recliner. He had been given a few toys to play with while he was waiting. For the following 30+ minutes, Dr. Krey and the incredible attentive nurses made their rounds to make sure both of us were holding up. They brought me apple juice and one nurse insisted I finish my large glass of water. Once I felt better, Dr. Krey asked a nurse to have me walk around the exterior of the building to test my balance. The nurse held my arm as we made a loop outside of the building. After the initial hour had passed, I felt good to go at that point and the team there concurred that I'd recovered and was ok to drive home, but also insisted that I call them once we arrived home safely. I'm so so thankful to Dr. Krey and his team for providing an amazing extraction experience for my son, but also for their care and attention after my fainting/seizure spell. I'm sure they had other patients to tend to, but my son and I felt like we were the only ones in the office. After leaving, it really felt like they were family. THANK YOU SO MUCH, DR. KREY and TEAM! BTW, my son healed up incredibly quickly! He essentially didn't need any meds for pain... not even over the counter pain killers (though my wife and I had to grind up some and put them in juice without him knowing because he insisted he didn't need them). He was eating semi-solid foods in a couple of days and, after about a week, the surgery sites looked fantastic. read more

Ahhh Wisdom Teeth. Not the smartest teeth in the head obviously. Mine are still all nice and warm and snuggy under the gums like they have been since I was a little baby. One in particular we will call him "Lefty-Upper" decided that rather than being a good little tooth he was going to start pretending to be a domino and falling into the bottoms of my other well rounded smart beautiful teeth. All while being hidden under the gums. If you can imagine this tiny bit of pressure applied to the "Root" ends of teeth can cause some slight discomfort. Like when trying to eat even slightly hard items like oh I don't know Chicken? The sudden twangs of pressure in your jaw like when your little sister would point her finger in you arm and just keep pushing slowly until you scream from the pressure. I did my toothy research and found these guys. I made my appointment and was well prepped by the receptionist as to not eat 8 hours before the appointment, not even water. They even have a computer call to remind you about it also. I needed that. I was actually really nervous. I opted to be put out for the procedure. Let me say now that going to sleep at the dentist is the closest thing to time travel. One minute your there and the next your done. Bam! Its over. I got kind of worried at first because the doctor didn't know that I was there for an extraction procedure. He thought I was there for a consultation. I didn't not eat breakfast for nothing. It kind of irked me slightly that he didn't know I was serious about my tooth removal. Once we got going and everything was in order I was more relaxed and they really know how to take care of you. The assistant was so funny. His name is Glenn and he really left me at ease. He even had my husband cracking up which is hard to do sometimes. So, I will be back for the rest one day when I have more time to recuperate and money for that matter. I highly recommend them for your wisdom teeth pulling. -Side Note-Parking is terrible so be prepared to drive around looking for a spot and possibly walking a little bit to get there.- read more

A lot has already been said here about the good Dr. Krey and the whole team. I'll add that I was semi-exasperated parent with kiddo who was very sensitive to dental procedures. We had a gruff and unfortunate experience with a prior dentist. Dr. Krey and Georgette, the dental assistant, were more kind and competent than I could've imagined. 6 stars. read more

Excellent experience getting my wisdom teeth out, but the billing department is bad news. They submitted my claim incorrectly to my dental coverage and not my medical coverage, did not let me know when my insurance said I had no dental coverage (this is true, they should have billed my medical coverage). Then, they took weeks to get back to me when I tried to contact them about this. Now almost a year later, after talking with my insurance company I discover that they have over charged me $500. My wisdom teeth came out well, my pain was managed appropriately, and everything healed up great. This is worth noting because my case was particularly tricky. However, the hassle of sorting out their billing mistakes makes me question if I'd ever recommend anyone go there. read more

If they had lower rating I would have given it. Will not say more because I am still trying to get over the experience. I think they are usually a good place to go, however I must have my procedure on a bad day. read more

Dr. Berger MD, wisdom teeth extraction My experience was great! It a chance to find a goo d doctor! I'm so lucky. The wisdom teeth extraction is a serious thing and I was very nervous. I was suggested Dr. Berger by a friend and I'm very satisfied. Local anesthesia, no pain, nice atmosphere and its done! Dr. Berger is nice with his patients and very experienced: he had 7 extractions the same day. He is doing this very often and his hands are great! I was afraid more that it worth to.
