Dr. Park and his staff are very professional and timely. They texted and called to remind me I had an appointment a few days in advance, which was very helpful. Once I got there, they gave me a COVID symptoms questionnaire and measured my temperature. With previous dentists, I've had to wait upwards of 30 minutes after my appointment time to see the dentist. Not with Dr. Park! He saw my only a few minutes after my scheduled time. Also, I noticed that the front desk person got up to sanitize the waiting room chairs and pens as soon as I left the area. The charges and billing for my treatment was also very transparent, with a breakdown for each expense. The only downside is parking. It's kind of hard to find and a lot of the parking in the area is metered, but hey, what do you expect in Downtown Berkeley? I'd definitely recommend him to a friend! read more

So maybe you are one of those people who has had the same dentist since you were 5 years old. This was me. After I moved to the West Coast I knew I had to find a new dentist, but of course I was afraid - could anyone take care of my teeth like my old dentist did? Came across this office through insurance. I don't usually write reviews (this is the first one I've ever written) but WOW from top to bottom this place is great. Organized; clean; great staff - they text you to confirm your appointment. The place is very efficiently run and the dentist is actually far superior to my childhood dentist. He is very skilled and will explain to you everything he is doing. Dr. Park removed my wisdom teeth last year. I needed all 4 removed, and he removed one side first, and the other side after a few months. This allowed me to have a side to chew on, and recovery was really easy. Dr. Park is patient, his staff is kind, and he will explain if you have any questions. I've been a patient with Dr. Park for 10 years! He's the best dentist I've had hands down. He's done fillings and crowns for me, and he has the gentlest hand when giving anesthetic, it's almost painless! I've had bad experiences with other dentists in the past and he was able to fix a lot of the horrible fillings that I had had done by previous dentists who did not know what they were doing. Love this place ! usually I am very afraid of going to the dentist but Dr. Park makes it pain free! Honestly I'm no longer afraid of making that dentist appointment anymore. It's practically a brand new office so it is very clean and has the state of the art equipment best part is Dr. Park is trained to do it all from general dentistry to root canals and extractions I have had both done by him and could not believe how pain free it was made me a believer into going to the dentist again. Also his prices are very reasonable so much so that I drove from San Ramon to Oakland and now to Berkeley .. Long story short: UCB student before you go, I want you to know this first: you may get charged of treatment that you did not received yet. Keep track of your insurance claims. There are three things that I think are wrong/suspicious: 1. Claim was charged on treatments that I have not received yet. Total 9 treatments that I did not receive yet. 2. Claim was charged on the wrong dates. The record says I went to see him 4 times, even though I went there once. 3. Second doctor I went to believes I don't have 10 cavities as Jun Park DDS diagnosed. I would have not know this if I went here when I was a student with SHIP insurance, where I would have not checked what the dentist claimed for the insurance. As a fellow bear, I really wish before you get any treatment, make sure you know what you are being treated, how much it will going to be cost and after you get treated, get bill confirmation or something of what you actually get treated. I think he is a good skilled dentist, but you need to take care of what you are being charged. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! (Especially if you're a UC Berkeley student who doesn't take account of your billing) This is not about his dental work (which is slightly below average), but specifically about his fraudulent insurance claims. Jun Park is DISHONEST and SCAMS unsuspecting people. He works with mainly lower-middle class people in Oakland and trusting/inexperienced students - primarily from UCB. Because these populations are less experienced with insurance claims they are thus easier to scam. He enjoys having undergraduate students as clients since he knows they will most likely work with him for four years. During this time, he will partially complete major dental work and continuously schedule appointments so that you have to return to him. With the end goal of claiming your yearly dental plan maximum ($1000 with Metlife). I found Jun Park from Yelp and decided to check him out since everyone gave him such high marks. I'm also a cheap student at UCB so when I heard that he waived fees I jump to the opportunity. However, upon the initial meeting I had a weird feeling about him because everything was too good to be true. But I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I thought it was odd since he managed everything - accounts, appointments, insurance... basically a one man band - yes, he has two female Korean dental assistants (who I feel are treated badly by Dr Park) but they never talked or assisted me outside of suctioning my excess saliva. I am currently in the middle of handling this case with my new dental office, so I won't go into great detail about my situation. Basically, I just found out that he charged my insurance (Metlife - through SHIP) for multiple dental procedures that he said he would undertake, but never happened because he changed his mind. (I had assumed they were never claimed since he didn't proceed, but my new dentist has just showed me that they were claimed - all $1000!) I am %100 serious when I say Jun Park needs to lose his dental license. I wonder how many unsuspecting insurance companies have been scammed, and how much money he's stolen from students. I paid out of my own pocket for my SHIP insurance ...Only to find out Dr Park has stolen it for himself! It's disgusting that he goes after the two most vulnerable populations to steal from. Dr Park Jun is a savior and a great man when it comes to being accommodating to UC Berkeley students with SHIP. He is able to waive all your fees for you under the insurance and help you with anything you need. Came in for a clean and check up and it was done quickly and effectively. Every once in a while he'll create conversation and make you feel welcome. I had to get my fillings done and he did them very well. However, he gets really packed so I recommend to call early in advance if you need to get any dental work done. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my parents, at their request, who have suffered physically and financially from this dentist. For the last 10+ years, my family has been going to this dentist for various work. From simple fillings, root canals, and most notably, implants. My parents have been going to him because they speak little English and he is one of the few dentists in the Oakland area that claim to do the work they do. He's young and personable, and my parents wanted to trust him. But the truth is that he preys on vulnerable people, and we've finally realized what a liar and scam artist he is. Over the last 10 years, he's convinced my parents to have a total of ten teeth pulled and replaced with implants, some of which we now believe weren't necessary and several of which continue to cause them pain. For example, he convinced both my parents to get implants for teeth that didn't even hurt, but he said it would alleviate pain from another area. When asked about the pain from the implants that wouldn't go away, he said that it would subside, just to take painkillers. (When my parents finally went to a second opinion dentist, he said that those teeth were actually infected and ultimately had to be replaced; apparently the work was shoddy.) My mother had another implant done by this dentist, which had to be replaced as well because it was loose. Instead of actually fixing the loose implant that he had done, he filled the gap like a cavity. (The same second opinion dentist said they had to take it out because the work had caused and would cause more damage to the jaw bone and now my mother missing molars on her left side. When my mother demanded that Dr. Park fix what he did, he said it wasn't his problem.) After years of this back and forth with this dentist, they finally started going to a different dentist, located an hour away. They waited so long to finally leave Dr. Park partly because of the financial investment they had already made on all the work - it was a never-ending game of messing up one tooth and then getting it fixed, which led to other teeth that needed to be fixed. It was also because they really wanted to trust Dr. Park; a Korean just like them, who could speak their language and understand their culture. They're incredibly upset and frustrated by all the damage he's done to them and wish they would have moved on from him sooner than wasting years of pain and suffering. I've personally witnessed my mother unable to function due to numerous implant surgeries and pain, of which we know now was unnecessary. Part of the reason for the review is also that my parents now know the difference of what a good dentist is with the new one they started seeing to fix all the damage that Dr. Park has created. It's clear to them that Dr. Park had neither the right equipment to do any of the work he claimed he could do, or the experience. Apparently, this new dentist has mentioned that he is getting a number of Dr. Park's former patients for similar reasons. Regarding the false insurance claims that others have wrote about: there were times when he charged their insurance for work that he didn't do. My parents would ask for detailed invoices with descriptions of the work he did, but he would always brush them off saying that they didn't have to worry, that he had records of everything. But then they would see what they were charged for and know that he was scamming the insurance as well. My parents trusted Dr. Park, and he betrayed that trust. Years of pain and money wasted on him. Just like others have said, Dr. Park is a scammer who commits insurance fraud. I had an insurance with $1,000 annual maximum. After visiting Dr. Park's office for minor cavity checkup and sealants on three teeth, I got a receipt from my insurance carrier saying that I had reached my insurance limit. I checked the details of treatments, and he had claimed for a total of eight of my teeth. I can't believe someone like him is still practicing medicine and is in business. His license needs to be revoked for insurance fraud. read more

Dr. Park is excellent. He is gentle and completely matter-of-fact...never nagging or condescending like some dentists. The facilities are super clean and comfortable, and though he doesn't seem to have a secretary or receptionist, he always calls back within hours for appointment scheduling. It is a bit hard to find his office the first time as it is deep in Oakland's Koreatown and there is little in the way of English signage, but he speaks fluent English and nothing is sketchy about the office itself. Dr. Park is a nice doctor and provides a welcoming feel. UC Berkeley students with SHIP should not have to pay anything if visiting Dr. Park's office. The great downside is that his office seems to not have any receptionist. He is the only one who answers all the phone calls and takes appointments. Well, this may get very annoying as a person who wants to change appointment or talk to him. For example, I called him multiple times this week and last week. I only got one missed call from his office. When I call back, no response. How am I ever supposed to get in contact with Dr. Park??!! I've experienced better... Okay; he is trying to save money however it's to the point where he just lost a patient (me) and prolly other ppl too. read more

THIS PLACE IS PERFECT FOR UCB STUDENTS! I had a wisdom teeth surgery, and he is not only skilled and talented but also kind-hearted and welcoming every time I visit there. Yes, just like someone mentions below here, he does make you come back but for YOUR BENEFIT! (and it's not that he pressures you to make an appointment) As you all know, your SHIP expires every year, and it costs $1000 per semester, which adds up to $2000 per year. He just wants you to maximize your benefit by getting you all the possible necessary dental treatments instead of wasting your $2000 per year. He is very sincere and caring, and he just wants poor students who are required to pay $2000 per year to be aware of a huge SHIP benefits, which thousands of students forgo every year. Plus, his price is reasonable. He covers remaining fee if that is coverable. For instance, I went to University Dental a year ago before I knew Dr. Park. They charged me $300 for my cavity treatment saying that the dental fee surpassed my coverage limit. THIS RARELY HAPPENS HERE. I paid $0 for my wisdom teeth surgery. I only wish I knew this place earlier so that I did not have to get ripped off by the University Dental. I honestly do not understand why some people feel like they were scammed. I do check my insurance claim and every insurance-related documents, and whenever I have a question about the records, I simply go to Dr. Park and ask. He explains everything well, and nothing is sketchy or anything. read more

If you're a UC Berkeley student who has SHIP, be prepared to pay absolutely NOTHING and get every single thing you need to get done FREE. For me, that included 4 wisdom teeth extractions (2 impacted ones), 6 cavities....and pending more cavities to be filled and each time I leave his office, I'm satisfied, happy and smiling with healthy teeth! For my most recent visit, I asked him to remove all 4 instead of just 2 (because I live in socal now :/ and was only up there to get my teeth removed) and it ended up being more complicated than expected, he even had to do multiple x-rays midway to ensure that he could do it. I was FREAKING OUT before and during the procedure (i HATE dentists/dental work-- the smell, the sounds, the pain) but he was able to do it quickly and skillfully! My teeth were all removed just fine, and though there was so much pressure and tugging (he looked like he was having a workout) during the process, I left with a successful extraction. I only ended up taking two vicodin and was absolutely fine throughout my recovery. Stitches were done well and removed well--he even snuck me in before his first patient to make sure they were removed before I flew back down to socal. My only issue was that he didn't give me an oral irrigator (squirty syringe thing you use to get food out of your wisdom teeth holes) and didn't even mention my need for it until all my friends told me to ask him. He told me I didn't need it, so I left trusting his advice. But I ended up buying one on amazon anyways, used it today and BAM--the food I got out of my holes was enough to feed a baby mouse. ALSO, during the entire process, it seemed like he was having issues but he wasn't telling me, he was just speaking to his assistant in Korean...so it freaked me out even more because it seemed like he wouldn't be able to do it. Mm, minus a star for lack of communication. MY ADVICE TO YOU: question him about everything he's doing (he tends to leave out some important details for post-extraction), how to take care of yourself afterwards, what you may need, how to take your meds and properly handle your healing mouth. He may just think you already know it, but it doesn't hurt to ask! Also MAKE SURE you get that syringe thing!!! It's super important, even if your holes are smal! Luckily, he answers his phone or calls you back himself and is always quick and responsive! All in all, GREAT dentist, especially if you're a UC Berkeley student with SHIP--he basically waves all his fees because he knows we're not the richest bunch. He also doesn't have a secretary so he answers the phone and handles all the paperwork (sketchiness alert) But don't worry because he's still ballin' -- my friends ran into him at Westfield SF sportin' a Burberry scarf, the man sure makes a lot of money! ***BTW his name is Jun Park...not the other way around, so I call him Dentist Park! read more

yep. i totally agree with the person who said he is the best dentist ever. i had my wisdom tooth out as a 30-something and i was very concerned about the pain i kept hearing from everyone that i would feel bc i waited too long to have it done, but dr. park seriously is the most gentle, calming, competent dentist i have ever had. i didn't even take the pain pills he prescribed bc i didn't need to. i am so grateful for him, and i feel so confident in him that i don't even consider any other dentist. one last thing: his office is low-key, clean, and unpretentious. not that you'll spend any time hanging out in the waiting room - he's punctual, to boot! read more

I know a lot of UC berkeley students go here since Dr. park works with you on payments and finds loopholes in the insurances but guys...ITS NOT WORTH IT!! i thought he was caring at first but turns out that he's just after your money. I got several root canals from him and now, my entire teeth plus jaws are messed up. my current dentist is shocked at the results of this guy's procedures. turns out that I never needed root canals and his crowns are so horrible that none of the teeth that I got done from him are aligned. i've been to 3 other dentist after this and they all are shocked at what he has done to my teeth. now I need to "un-do" the things he did to me and its going to cost me a fortune. my jaws are so messed up that I cant open my mouth wide without the jaws popping out. I cant chew on anything and I still have scars around my lips from him ripping my mouth open so roughly. so please... save yourself and stay away from Dr.Park. read more

I pulled 2 of my bottom wisdom teeth. Both were laying down side-way so was tough to pull but Dr. Park managed to pull them with little pain; in fact, the first one I had zero pain and the second one did cause slight pain but nothing serious. Of course it did hurt 30 min-1 hour after the anesthetics went away but that's natural. The cost was about 250-300 apiece for the tough one. read more

When I found him I had been without dental care for a long time, was in intense pain, was economically struggling, and had immediate issues I needed addressed. Dr. Parks was so kind, patient, gentle, and helpful. He understands what it is like to be a student and treated me with so much respect and compassion. He doesn't lecture like some dentists do, just helps find solutions and move toward better health.
