I have NEVER been a fan of going to the dentist. Other dentists' offices I had gone to before had always seemed a little pretentious. But this place feels different, it's comfortable, the staff is so down to earth and friendly. I don't feel judged and I don't get lectured. Everyone seems like they care about their work. I've been going to Berkeley Hills Dental for many years, and I have nothing but glowing things to say about them. Dr. Ansari is always so kind and friendly, as are all of the dental technicians. I'm particularly impressed that they are very thorough with cleanings and always seem to give a lot of attention and care, but also are extremely punctual, to the point where I don't remember ever waiting more than 5-10 minutes for my appointment, and generally not even that long. A few times Dr. Ansari has raised the idea of different procedures (e.g. planar scaling for gum disease), but she's never pushed them aggressively. She always seems to have the ethos of trying to get me to fix issues with the gentlest solution, like better brushing or flossing, before resorting to more invasive options. I think that's a huge plus. Street parking is easy, and I've never had trouble making appointments, so overall no issues with logistics. I've referred people to their practice, and never heard anyone have a bad experience. They've kept my teeth in great health, and it's all been easy and pleasant -- not sure what else I could ask for! read more

I am coming here since 2007, so safe to say I know these folks very well. For many years I have lived across the water in San Francisco, but I drive all the way to Berkeley in my (now fixed) Suburu because I trust Berkeley Hills Dental so much. Dentists are all very competent and friendly and I must say, they have A+ dental assistants who have always helped me when I have inevitably the anxiety before and during procedures. Always I say "I will need very much the Novocain! I feel the pain strongly" And they always know this but mostly just calm me down and give me the normal amount. They must have in my file some crazy notes. One time I park near there and was getting myself together in my car, sweating and almost crying from anxiety. I finally walk up all the stairs and enter the office. "Hi Pasquale!" my most favorite assistant said and she stopped and said "are you okay? We're just doing a cleaning today, so nothing to worry about. The hard part over now that you are here." This really helped me. I sat down in the waiting area chair. I looked at a young lady who smiled at me and asked me if I was an actor. "Yes, but don't tell anyone I was here, ok." Who knows who she thought I was, but my guess is Anthony Hopkin. Anyways. My teeth are a mess, I will not lie to you. For many years I ate candy as I was going to bed and did not brush my teeth. I did not care. They tell me I have angel on my shoulder because I should have no teeth. So, you hear now: Angels are real. read more

My husband Jack Shoemaker has recently finished a several years' long treatment plan for restoration of his dental work, damaged when he and I we're hit by a car in a crosswalk. This work was almost infinitely complicated and many would have been too dismayed by the complexity to pursue it to a beautiful outcome. Dr. Ansari is an amazing dentist. I don't know that I've ever had strong feelings about my dentists in the past. She is not just efficient and good at her job, she is very kind and considerate. I really appreciate that she is honest about what work or services you might need, and never tries to push more than that on you. Jose, who works the front desk, does a fantastic job. The other staff I have interacted with have also all been great. One thing, it's definitely a busy place--likely because people who come here once will keep coming back. Dr Ansari is a gem. In addition to being technically proficient, she is also extremely caring, gentle and considerate. One of the things I appreciate the most is that unlike my previous dentist, Dr Ansari never tries to sell me something I don't really need (even if it would benefit her financially). The staff is also fabulous. Suki, Dr Ansari's right-hand assistant, not only does great work, but manages to make me laugh -- something you don't expect during a dental procedure. Ok, many years later, I can update this review and wish I could leave a NEGATIVE 5 star review. The cavities he had filled were minor and in the center of the molars. But instead of cleaning out the cavity and putting a small filling in them, he basically cut a deep groove from front to back through the whole tooth, and filled it in with the filling material. I was shocked when I realized this but he told me how this was the best way to do it, blah, blah, blah. At that point it was done and there wasnt anything I could do, so I just left. Now I understand what he meant when he said it was the best way. By doing this and weakening the tooth, both teeth he did this to, have now completely cracked because he basically cut them in half to "fix" a minor cavity. In the end, I needed to get implants and crowns on both of those. So it was the best way for him to set me up to pay for a couple of expensive vacations for him down the road. Unfortunately for him, I refused to ever go back to this place after that and the money I had to spend went to a dentist who was actually reputable, talented, and competent. read more

I left a voicemail, never heard back, and have tried calling their office several times to check back and have never been able to get anyone to answer the phone. They never answer the phone. This place takes my insurance so I keep going there, but to ever get an appointment I have to call 7-9 times over several days. They will never call you back. Then when you try to make a follow up appointment while you are there IN THE OFFICE you also have to hunt someone down to help you. It is not easy. read more

I love, love, love Dr. Tehari at Berkeley Hills Dental. He has been taking great care of my mouth for many years. Before I found my way there I was extremely phobic of all things dental, but his sweet and kind demeanor and gentle touch keep me coming back every 6 months for cleanings and care. Today he replaced an old filling for me and it was the least painful novocaine injection I've ever received. And he waited plenty of time for it to kick in before starting the procedure. UPDATE: I returned for another service and José (office manager?) thanked me for my Yelp review and explained the Covid safety set up, showing me the many air purifiers in use. It was helpful and I have a lot more confidence in the safety of the space. So, changing the review to five stars. So far so good. I'm a new patient because my new dental insurance doesn't allow me to go to my longtime dentist. Reception staff was friendly and competent and answered the phone the times I have called (so far...) Dr. Pour-Ansari seemed knowledgeable, competent and had a nice bedside manner. The dental assistant (can't remember her name) was lovely. The first exam I got was very thorough. The only hesitation I have is that it is an open floor plan exam area, and with Covid and patient masks (necessarily, due to dental work) off, there is not really adequate separation/ventilation between patients. My old dentist had individual exam rooms, which seems safer. Will update this if I run into any issues. read more

My search is over for a new dentist. When I called this office I spoke to Jose. I told him about my two insurances and he told me that they would take both of them. When I told him what I might need he took the time to check both coverage's to be sure I was covered. He was so helpful. I was impressed, so I made an appointment for a consultation and then called Delta Dental Costco and changed my Dentist. The office might not dazzle you with all the latest high-tech equipment. But I think you will be please with the care you receive here. I am so pleased with Dr Teheri. He is gentle and he made me feel very relaxed in the chair. His assistants are friendly. All in all a very professorial office. I was given a printout of 3 options for the workI needed. They did not try to sell me more services than I needed or wanted. When you're limited in what dental care you can afford (i.e. you only have Delta Dental HMO), this is the place to check out. It definitely doesn't have all the bells and whistles of more expensive practices like Penelope Yip's office (which is a great practice but requires delta dental PPO). Ignore the rudeness of the front desk and you'll be just fine. Dr. Taheri and Dr. Ansari are both just fine. read more
