The quality of care I received from this dental office was terrible. I felt the need to leave an updated review after having different experiences with other dental offices. Campus dental care is all about money. They will mark up concerns in order to get as much from you as possible. A few dental fillings I got from here didn't last & the cleaning I received from this place-- both procedures took less than 30 minutes. It's a fast job and a poor one. I've gotten dental fillings before at my old dentist in my hometown and those have lasted FOREVER and one dental filling took longer than campus dental cares filling procedures for more than 5 of my teeth. I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Anthony Needham, DDS, at Campus Dental Care. His manner during my appointment felt dismissive and abrupt; he cut me off multiple times while I was explaining my concerns. He initially said he would treat my teeth, but another provider ended up doing the work instead, which was not communicated clearly. Additionally, I was told I needed braces due to "crooked teeth," but the way this was delivered felt abrupt and unprofessional. The office charged over $300 for a short cleaning, and although my insurance (SHIP) covered it, the staff acted as though they had not been paid. I also felt that certain "issues" with my teeth were exaggerated in a way that seemed designed to increase future charges. For Berkeley students like me or anyone with SHIP or comparable insurance: your coverage works with many other dental offices in the area that provide far better customer service and clearer communication. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Campus Dental Care. read more

A rather great experience at Campus Dental. The staff were incredibly friendly and made me feel at ease, from the receptionist to the doctor. The clinic is brand new, modern and clean. Dr.Nima was amazing. He was super kind and did a great job. During our consultation, Dr.Nima shared accessible, clear information about the procedure itself, I watched a 3D animation on the work that needed to be done on me, that was also super cool! I also had to get a crown that I had procrastinated in addressing it because of the anxiety I get when I go to a dentist. On top of getting an excellent cleaning, my care provider informed me of what else I can to do to go above and beyond normal dental hygiene. The doctor did an extremely quick job at taking care of my two little cavities, which I value a lot because I can't tolerate long fillings with how sensitive my teeth are. Loved coming here for the first time! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly! I had not been to the dentist in a long time due to becoming a college student here at Berkeley however now that I'm all settled in and thanks to Tang Center for referring me here it was time to go! I've been here for 10 years now, from getting fillings, to getting a crown, to getting implants, to my 2x a year cleaning, they have been taking good care of me since I was in college (now I'm a working professional. UPDATE: Dr. Nima reached out to me to make things right. He was very passionate about resolving the situation, so I decided to give him a chance. Coming back to the office, everyone was very nice to me and careful with my crown procedure. My second experience was much better than my first, and I truly believe that Dr. Nima cares about his patients. My visit at Campus Dental Care was amazing! I have never felt so cared for by a dental team before and I would highly recommend them. I was FORCED to sign a bill ($300 increase) while I was drowsy, dizzy, and unable to speak a single word due to side effect of 15 shots of local anesthesia during the oral surgery. My initial visit (check-up) was on Mar 15 2022. On the treatment plan, the cost for wisdom teeth removal was $1366 before the insurance and $683.6 after the insurance coverage. My wisdom teeth removal (all 4) oral surgery was on April 27th 10am. When I first arrive the clinic, the front reception lady told me the cost will be $726.4 after the insurance because the plan changed. They just added consultation fee again, which had already paid during my initial visit. After checking in, an assistant took me to the oral surgery room. I met oral surgeon Dhaval Patel. Hegave me about 15 shots of anesthesia in my mouth. Because of this was my first time, I felt dizzy and drowsy after many shots of anesthesia. I also have trypanophobia (scared of needles), so I became almost unconscious. My mouth was also very numb, I could not speak a single word after the anesthesia shots. Then, he brought a new bill to me and told me to sign or he would not do the surgery. The total price was $915.6, which is approximately $300 more than the original price. I was dizzy, drowsy, lack of consciousness at that time but was forced to sign the paper. I had no energy to understand the situation, nor I could not ask the detail of the new price because my mouth was too numb. This place is unethical, lack of morals and integrity of being a dentist. Forcing people to sign a bill while they are in the vulnerable situation is illegal. Also, he did this to me probably because I am 5ft tall, female, Asian and international student. I asked my other friends (local, male) about their wisdom teeth prices at here and it turned out to be normal. They discriminates the price based on how vulnerable you look. read more

Terrible and rude. DO NOT GO. Avoid at all costs. Dr. Needham treated me today, and he was so rude to me as if I was a machine. While I was getting my cavities filled, he asked me to keep my lip relaxed, which I tried really hard to. I am a human, and I have the instinct to move. This is completely normal (My mouth is numb and cannot control it). After moving my lips, he forcefully pressed on my lips as if I cannot feel anything. This happened multiple times and I cried after he *almost shouted at me* frustratedly pressed my lips against my teeth. My teeth exist not because I want to bite my own lips... It hurts a lot. If you are a COVID-conscious person, Dr. Needham did not wear a mask inside the clinic. He only wore a mask after he sit down (which I guess is acceptable) but this is really unprofessional. This only shows that he does not care about his fellow staff and his patients. I am paying 300+ for good service and a good result. They did the job, but very badly, and I had a terrible experience. If you are considering going to this location, I urge you to consider other places since the owner is so rude. read more

I believe this dentist office has very predatory dental practices aimed at getting college students to spend a lot more on basic dental care. Their ads about free cleanings are misleading given that it's covered through our insurance regardless of what ship provider we go to. Came here during my first year of college to have a dental check that was long overdue. They improperly cleaned a cavity and then filled it, which then led to further damage and then wanted to greatly overcharge for a root canal and crown as the only option. Even with the severe tooth pain, I was in due to an improper job on their end. I could not get another appointment for weeks down the line. And when I finally got my appointment, they couldn't do anything because they wanted me to wait for their specialist to come in who comes in once a month. This was my second visit to Campus Dental Care. The first visit was about a month ago to get my teeth cleaned and xrays done. They gave me a free electric tooth brush with my student ID. Basically a free 1st visit ride :)  I love that tooth brush.  Both appointments went smoothly. Dr. Nima started a crown on the bottom molar, my filling was too large and I saw it on the X-ray it was very cool when looking at it on the computer screen! Absolutely no complaints. The office staff were all very pleasant and Dr. Nima was gentle and considerate. I am now scheduled with Dr. Patel the oral surgeon to take care of my wisdom teeth. Dr. Needham and Dr. Patel are brilliant, and care very deeply about making patients feel comfortable during their visits. Dr. Needham, who owns the practice, is exceptionally quick and precise with his treatments. He is also VERY knowledgeable about the dental field, and can be a great, friendly, mentor for anyone interested in going into dentistry. Dr. Patel is incredible at extractions, and is an expert at allowing patients the time to think through their decisions and feel comfortable during and after their procedures. The office is less than one block away from UC Berkeley's campus, and the skill of the dentists and staff can get students back to their busy schedules in no time!
