Dr Vijeh is the bomb. Besides being a great dentist, he's funny and super personable. And his assistant Maribel is the best.

This review is long overdue. We love Dr. V! My entire family goes to him and he's been absolutely amazing. He's very patient and so great at explaining his plan especially to someone like me who's anxious about going to the dentist. He's very knowledgeable and my kids love him! If you're looking for a great dentist I highly recommend Dr. Vijeh. read more

Front office staff are on top of it and efficient. Hygienists Yelena and Nakisa were thorough, gentle, very knowledgable, generous with helpful information. Maribel assisted Dr. Vijeh expertly. Everyone is highly competent. Dr. Vijeh is outstanding: meticulous, clearly excited about his work, kind, explains everything carefully and patiently. Infectious disease protocols are also excellent. read more

We have recently transferred to Dr Vijeh and overall we are delighted. Things we don't like so far: - their website says they fog rooms with hypochlorous acid for patient safety, but the staff says they don't do this anymore, misleading. -when doing X-rays the door to the treatment room is open, with lots of unmasked people in the building, so that interferes with Covid safety. -wish there were parking other than along The Alameda, quite a busy street But that is balanced out by what we do like: - ventilation in treatment rooms is great and they have individual doors - Dr Vijeh is very charming and pleasant -super nice staff -on request they wear n95 masks and the request gets added to your file so you don't have to keep asking -Hygienist was great and thorough for a cleaning -One of us had a filling and Dr Vijeh's touch was great, most painless filling ever! All in all we are quite pleased! read more

A dentist who doesn't upsell unneeded procedures and medicine? A dentist who actually has your best interest at heart? A dentist who doesn't just see dollar signs when you walk through the door? A dentist who called me on his off day just to see how I was doing after my fillings? A dentist who puts you at ease and is VERY thorough? If that's the dentist you're looking for, you've found him. Dentist Vijeh is hands down the best I've ever met. MR. Vijeh happened to be my second opinon after seeing my long time dentist and being skeptical of what my normal dentists treatment plan was. Dentist VIJEH saved me $2k by letting me know about 70% of what my life long dentist was trying to have done was unnecessary and egregious. After that meeting I made dentist Vijeh my new primary dentist. Fast forward to last year when I had out of the blue the worst tooth pain of my life. I left him a voicemail after business hours hoping to see him ASAP. Mr Vijeh called me back first thing in the AM, created 2 hours of his schedule THAT SAME DAY for me and was able to see me a few hours later. He stayed 2 hours after business was closed JUST to help me!! Unheard of care!!!!!!!! Not only did he fix the worst pain of my life, he did so by doing a much longer and time consuming procedure just to save me money. He could have elected for a quicker, more expensive but less effective long term solution. I will never let another dentist touch my teeth. Would give him 5 million stars if possible read more

Anyone recommended by Dr. Cane is ok by me. Lovely location. Takes most insurances...... read more

Tom Cane was the best dentist I've ever had. He was careful and deliberate in everything he did. Fortunately Tom chose his replacement the same way he went about his practice.....with great care. This is manifest in his successor, Dr Sam Vijeh. Sam has now been my dentist for several years and has continued the high standards set by Tom Cane, since he retired. He is literally a "chip off the old block". When I had an emergency, he stayed after hours to see me. Sam seems to me like family, someone I trust. The work he has performed has been perfect, professional and comes with a lovely bedside manner. I unreservedly recommend Dr Sam Vijeh to anyone who cares about the dentist they select. Trying to find a dentist who is knowledgeable, who you can trust, who is thorough in explaining any procedure taking place, who is empathetic, and who actually treats you like a human as opposed to just another 'transaction' has always been a challenge for me. It's a daunting task looking for a dentist who checks all the boxes, but Dr Vijeh does just that. He is by far the best dentist I've ever seen. I can't recommend him enough, and my wife and I plan to use him for all future dental related visits. read more

Dr. Vijeh is an incredibly knowledgeable dentist who uses an empathetic approach with his patients. He is a younger doctor- but by no means any less intelligent- he really is super smart. He was the only dentist in Berkeley who took me on as a last-minute add-on patient (on Veteran's Day) because I had a dental emergency. He promptly referred me to an endodontist to get my root canal done. Because of that, I switched over all my dental care to Dr. Vijeh even though he is an out-of-network dentist. Dr. Vijeh personally called me numerous times to check up on me; I really appreciate his method of making sure patients under his care are doing alright. He explains procedures in layman terms and worked around my own (less flexible) schedule in order to have an appt time we both agreed upon (ie seeing me at 4:30 pm on a weekday for a 2 hr procedure). He possesses great patient management and technical skills, and employs an interesting (and thoughtful) technique during injection of the local anesthetic, to minimize discomfort and anxiety during more nerve-racking exam procedures. I just completed the first part of my dental crown procedure and had a comprehensive (and very thorough) exam from him, and am very satisfied with the progress and results! Looking forward to my next dentist appt with him! Special shout-out to Iwulani- the amazing receptionist- who connected me with Dr. Vijeh, and to the helpful dental hygienist who works side by side with Dr. Vijeh and always greets me with a smile :) read more

I have been going to Dr. Vijeh since around Covid when we were all still scared of going outside for fear of contracting this invisible virus. I got the recommendation from a friend, and I ultimately chose this dental office because of all the precautions they took to ensure patient safety. Everyone was double masked, they had good ventilation, and multiple air purifiers setup throughout the office. I have been going every since. The thing I like most is Dr. Vijeh walks me through all my options when I need work done and helps me decide what is best for the long-term and also the financial considerations. I had a situation on one tooth where it was unclear if I needed a root canal or if we could get by with a filling for now. I did not want a root canal (have had several and I know sometimes they can be avoided). I spoke with Dr. Vijeh about it, we took some X-rays, and he confirmed that while a root canal was probably where I was headed in the future we could get by with trying to address the problem with a filling if I was willing to try and let him carefully treat the tooth. He successfully did the filling and it has been 4 years now with no issues on the tooth. Writing this review just after leaving my recent 6-month cleaning appointment and thought it was time to let others know :) I live in Walnut Creek and drive to Berkeley because when you find a dentist you trust it's worth a few extra miles. My whole family now goes here. read more

Sam is a thorough dentist whom I can trust to do excellent work and not more or less than is necessary. He is also a very kind dentist who explains what he's doing thoroughly and, more importantly, why he's doing it. Also, his office staff is both friendly and efficient. read more

Seeing Dr. Vijeh at his dental office was an amazing experience. His staff was very nice and welcoming and were able to get me into my appointment on short notice which was appreciated. Dr Vijeh is a highly skilled and competent dentist. He is also kind, empathetic and gentle. He was sensitive to my needs and was quick to put me at ease. He checked in frequently to make sure I was comfortable. Beyond providing an excellent experience and superlative service, he and his staff provided provided a safe, clean environment. Powerful air filtration, masks, and room disinfecting meant I could get good care and not potentially get sick from the visit. Cannot recommend enough! read more

My previous review of Dr Cane, who was my dentist for many years, remains unchanged. But I cannot allow my 5-star review to remain for Dr Vijeh who took Dr Cane's practice when he retired. I give Dr Vijeh 1 star. I don't like several of his medical and business practices. First, I think it is an insult that I have to sign a "contract" every time he discusses future dental work with me. I have never heard of any other medical practitioner requiring the signature of a contract after discussing possible future care. It seems to me it is enough to have a set price for every procedure and then to follow that pricing. Second, I don't like that Dr Vijeh includes gas anesthesia in every estimate, excuse me, "contract". I have never had gas in my life and I see no reason for it now. My previous dentists never even mentioned such a thing. I have had lidocaine injections in the past for work that might cause pain and that has been plenty for me. But Dr Vijeh has told me that he recommends gas anesthesia to "relax" me. I am not afraid of dental work and I don't have any trouble relaxing in the dental chair. Furthermore, I don't believe in gas anesthesia unless administered by an anesthesiologist. I believe that by pushing gas anesthesia for "relaxation" instead of pain he is bordering on malpractice. The gas seems to be more for him than for that patient. It also adds a tidy sum to the total cost of the bill. Dr Vijeh likes to come off as being "nice". But in reality I see him as pushy and controlling. He is willing to lose a patient rather than adjust himself to each patient's individual needs and preferences. This review is based upon my own experiences with Dr Vijeh. I am sorry that Dr Cane's office has changed so drastically now that he has retired. But, I have found another awesome dentist nearby, one whose practice uses the same tried and true practices and procedures that I valued as a patient of Dr Cane. One who does not make me sign a contract or push gas anesthesia off on me. One whose prices are also noticeably lower. read more

I had been a patient of Dr Cane since 1983, but when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, he stopped practicing. He interviewed many dentists to make sure that he could find one with the same philosophy of care, and obviously, somebody whose work is top notch. After working for the practice until about a year into the pandemic, Dr. Vijeh took over. Prior to that, Dr. Cane was still there but not seeing patients. So there was plenty of time for Dr Cane to evaluate Dr Vijeh before turning over his practice. At first I was hesitant to use a different dentist. But after speaking with him, understanding his philosophy toward dentistry, and with Dr Cane still in charge of the practice, I had a dental exam. I later had a filling replaced, and am very satisfied with his work. You will probably find a lot of people who think that their own dentist is good, but aren't qualified to judge the work. Dr Cane has been teaching in dental school for decades and has taught countless dentists, and is extremely qualified to judge the quality of the work. So if you are a former patient of Dr Cane, you can trust his recommendation too, and that his practice went to the most qualified. read more

Dr. Cane has taken care of my teeth and my fear of dental work for over 25 years. As I get older, and he does too, my appreciation for this gentle, careful, very smart dentist just deepens. I have very short roots and over time I've needed a variety of treatments including implants. Dr. Cane never works on a tooth if he feels a crown or implant is needed, but refers to excellent specialists. Though my hygiene has improved over the years, Dr. Cane avoids any judgmental attitudes, just nudging gently toward more adequate home care. He also uses Nitrous Oxide, which helps immensely with my anxiety! I referred my husband to him as well, and he's totally happy. I especially recommend him for work with older folks. He's helped me avoid dentures and made my teeth sturdier! read more

I had been a patient of Dr. Cane for 30+ years when I found out that he was retiring. I did not know what I was going to do. I should have known that Dr. Cane, who took so well care of me for all these years would also make sure that somebody would take care of all my dental needs when he retired. I have met Dr. Vijay several times and he follows in Dr. Canes footsteps by being amazingly responsive, knowledgeable, and caring. It has been a pleasure to see Dr. Vijay and knowing that Dr. Cane made sure that somebody he approved would look after my needs. read more

Tom Cane has been my dentist for 26 years, and it's the best quarter century my smile has known! He's a scientist, and he explains exactly what's happening and why. Think about that... fun to be with your dentist. True too! Love the office staff as well. Jo makes everything work and the hygienists are beyond awesome. read more

Dr. Cane is the doctor I go to to unfuck my mouth after I went to a different dentist who charged me $3,000 to leave me in semi-constant pain. Better yet, when I mentioned that my mouth was now in significantly more pain than it had been before I took their advised operations, I had been told "Well, nothing we can do, that's just how it works." Dr. Cane listened to my account with concern, and possibly affronted professional pride, and then assured me that the operations were not ones he would have recommended, but there were still absolutely were things we could do. That's the immediate reason I'm absolutely thrilled with him, but the reason I went back to him in the first place, first chance I got, was that on previous occasions he has routinely impressed me with confidence, consummate knowledge, and absolute willingness to break things down for explanation to his patient. I've told the receptionist Dr. Cane is seriously impressive; her response was "Yeah, he is. Some people fly in from out of state to see him." I believe it. read more

Words fail me, Dr. Cane has absolutely saved my teeth - I have been going to him for almost 25 years. He has done caps that have broken, fixed caps on teeth others would have pulled, made me a superb mouth piece to replace missing teeth when implants were not an option. He is intelligent, calm, professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. When my cap broke and I called his office on a Saturday, he happened to answer the phone and had me come right over where he fixed the tooth enough for me to get by till I could get an appointment with him. He is also honest, will refer you out if he does not do a particular service, and he never recommends the most extreme fix, always thinking of what is truly needed. He is the dentist I wish I had had earlier in my life. I recommend him totally. read more
