I came in for a dental cleaning with x-rays for $79 Valpak coupon deal. It is for first time customers only and appointments required. I came 15min early and only waited about 10min in the reception area after checking in. Fatima was my hygienist and was super sweet to me especially after bonking my head on their 360degree x-ray machine. She got me ice. But it was a very loud bonk. They should definitely verbalize to patients to "watch their head" while approaching the machine and explain what is happening next. It is a very tight and narrow hallway to the restroom which is also nearby the single x-ray machine that the office shares. I think adding a few neon or bright colored signs or stickers directly on the machine might help! After I was resting in the dental chair in my patient room and my cleaning was done, Fatima continued to talk to me about my next steps in my career and was very insightful about her own path to hygienist school. She continued to be pleasant and guided me (safely) to the DDS exam room. No 2nd injuries for me. Fatima continued to apologize and I could tell felt really bad about me hitting my head pretty hard. My forehead was swollen by the end of the week but it's 100% healed now. I have my next 6-month cleaning scheduled and excited to be back. read more

I got a nearly 900 bill in the mail with no explanation. In fact, my last interaction with this dentist was to cancel a routine cleaning and to inform them I moved from Berkeley and that I would no longer be a patient. I was told okay, and that there would be no charge since I cancelled in advance. I kept receiving texts reminding me of my upcoming appointment, so I called again and they assured me my appointment was cancelled and there would be no charge. A month or so passes and I get the mystery bill in the mail. When I called the office, the person on the other line hemmed and hawed about a deep cleaning (that was already paid for and happened in 2024), saying the office would contact me again with more details. Nothing in my dental insurance claims or documents comes close to the amount in this bill, and of course, the office never contacted me. Yesterday I got the same bill AGAIN. It feels like a retaliatory bill because I MOVED TOWNS. This place may have been fine once, but it seems like they're changing their business practices to be dishonest and predatory. Do not use this dentist. There are dozens of other options. I am on the verge of legal action. I have filed a complaint with the California Board of Dentistry and suggest any other patients being extorted by this scammy dentist do the same. read more

My wife and I have gone to Dr. Singh for years--ever since he took over the office from Dr. Bear, who retired. The work has always been excellent, from teeth cleaning to crowns and a tooth implant. We would still go to Berkeley Dentistry, but our type of Delta Dental insurance has changed with retirement, and now is limited to certain providers. My crown and filling procedues was interrupted mid-session for 35 minutes while the entire office met with a videographer for a group photo session while I was left unattended. I was recommended to this dental office by a friend of mines who had full mouth implants placed, her teeth looked good so I thought I'd give them a try. It started off good. My first service was an extraction and two implants. I had one on the left and right upper side of my mouth, the one on the right side took well however, the one on the left, which is the side Berkeley Dentistry extracted, placed a bone graft and implant on the same day, failed. I know there's a chance of something like this happening however what was upsetting is that I could see that the implant on the left side was sliding out so I immediately booked an appointment to have it looked at and Dr. Singh told me that it was not sliding out although it clearly was. During my post checkup, he informed me that the same tooth he previously said was ok...wasn't!! It failed and had to be redone. This was very upsetting and is when my trust in his services began to decline. I developed an infection on my right side which caused excessive swelling (I have pictures to prove it). I had to take another round of strong antibiotics which I was concerned with because taking too many antibiotics can make you resistant to them. The graph they placed had an odd odor which I sometimes still smell and there is an indent on the gum on the left side where the tooth was extracted. These services cost me over $16,000. I probably could've had these services performed somewhere else at a cheaper price and may have had a better result. Dr. Singh was dishonest which was hurtful bc I thought he was a caring, thorough and honest dentist, turns out I was wrong. I am praying this office and others like it are exposed and shut down, taking advantage of patients medically and financially is dishonorable and no office with such practices should be allowed to be in operation. My takeaways are this: *Look at and consider Yelp reviews (he has 2-3 stars for a reason) *Get a second and third opinion *Shop around so you're not over paying *DO NOT get an extraction and implant on the same day as your bone and gums need time to heal and adhere to the bone graft. read more

Now that I have made this agreement, I can finally see the first review in a "side" section, along with reviews from other clients that are not positive. And so to begin another review: This office on the Alameda had a group of warm, reasonable, and highly-skilled dentists. It seemed natural to go to Dr Singh when my dentist retired. The "type" of care was average and less friendly than my other dentist. Dr Singh can be quite cursory in his interactions, and his numerous assistants are not always trained in "people" skills. The office experience is far less personal. Also of concern: Dr Singh charges more than other dentists and requires an advanced deposit.. Each time I balked at the fees, I was told that my situation was "urgent" and that I couldn't wait. Each time one of his assistants appeared, while I was still in the chair, to discuss money. This third and recent visit included a $500.00 deposit before any work was done. I had already gone through two monetary catastrophes with this practice over a period of six years before I realized (1) their fees were overpriced, (2) they actively encourage loans and discuss them when a patient is most vulnerable. (3) They ask for advanced deposits. When I finally realized this was not typical dentistry, and that this practice did not have the principles of the prior practice, I had my bank stop the $500.00 deposit and went to an established dentist who charged me over $2500 less for excellent treatment, and sensitivity and compassion I had not experienced. Financial bullying and elder abuse My friend went to Berkeley Dentistry last week and reports that she was bullied and harassed into signing for a $26,000 loan for dental work Mr. Singh declared was essential. She is older and is not too fluent in English, and they brow-beat her into signing these documents, saying she couldn't think about it, she needed to sign up now, it was the best deal in town and surely she didn't want to lose all of her teeth! She tried to push back and was verbally ganged up on. She was terrified and nervous; her son called to complain and she was told they didn't her son coming in to talk with them. I explained to me friend that she needed to report this to the proper authorities, including the state Department of Consumer Affairs. Regardless of how they try to resolve this now that its public, this should never have happened. This violates the California Dental Association code of medical ethics, not to mention laws for consumer rights, elder abuse and fair credit. read more

This deceptive dentist is focused on his bank account, not on the welfare of his patients. He will smile cheerfully at you and look you in the eye while picking your pocket. After gaining your confidence, he will refer you to his assistant who will calculate the "(over)charges" for your procedure--which will be as much as two and a half times what a normal dentist would charge, and his staff will then use subtle psychological pressure by implying that his rates are normal when, for a major procedure, they are actually THOUSANDS of dollars above the going rates. He will also try to get you to do expensive unnecessary cosmetic procedures that involve crowns on healthy teeth. Once you are in his clutches, he will then "Singh" all the way to the bank. He was very thorough and I am recommending his practice to others. Looking at the x-rays from Dr Singh office, my new dentist noted a couple of small cavities. But I have to say that this appointment at Berkeley Dentistry/Ricky Singh DDS -- my first -- was the most pleasant dental experience I have had in over half a century of dental visits. My family and I chose this practice and has been going for a few years. Just the routine cleanings and xrays. I also got my veneers replaces when one broke and Dr Singh did a nice job. Until my son got punched in the face and had two of his teeth cracked. Root canals, new teeth, X-rays, the whole 9 yards. While I was getting my own teeth cleaned, I was presented with a cost break down sheet. Mind you, I'm laying back in a chair, my son is in the next room in pain and I'm being asked to sign this. I asked if he could send to my insurance, both dental and medical, and he said he could but would require the full amount of $5,004 today. What kind of mother would say no? I signed, maxed out our flexible spending accounts and split amongst credit cards. I was handed visa receipts and no detailed explanation. I called both my medical and dental and they asked for them to submit a claim as this was an accident and not cosmetic. I called and asked the billing clerk to do this and she asked if I wanted to talk to Dr Singh. I said I didn't need to since she was the billing clerk. She said she had a patient and would call me back. Dr Singh actually called me back and asked why I was so upset. I told him my frustrations and he said medical could take 3-6 months to review. I told him I didn't care if it took 2 years. I have excellent insurance. I'm still here with no resolution in sight and no one to help me rectify because now they see my phone number and won't answer. read more

Scheduled a cleaning via ZocDoc; when I arrived, there was an error with the website and they told me they could only do a dental exam, not a cleaning. They said the exam was necessary before scheduling a cleaning, even though I had just had an exam - fine with me. Dr. Singh was professional and polite. However, I was required to sign a really questionable cancellation policy form stating that patients will pay $100 for canceling appointments less than 48 hours in advance. It's understandable to want to deter late cancellations, but this fee is ridiculously steep. When I decided to switch dentists and called (a week in advance) to cancel the cleaning appointment they scheduled, I asked for an email confirmation of the cancellation and was told "we don't do that". I explained that because of their $100 late cancellation policy, I would appreciate something in writing verifying that I canceled within their required time limit. Nope. Hope their word is good enough and I don't get hit with an unexpected bill like many other customers have. read more

A word of caution: I am happy with the crown Dr. Sing made, it fits perfectly, thats why I gave three stars. However, the process was very disturbing and expensive for me. Upon making an appointment I was immediately charged $500, at prep-time another $300 plus. Shocked, but ok I thought, when my insurance pays the 80% they normally cover I would get my money back. Well, turns out his price for the crown was double that of normal with the explanation that he only does all porcelain crowns and my insurance does not cover this. My advise, if you go to his office get a cost estimate, take it home and get a second opinion before you put any money down. Dr. Singh is into cosmetic dentistry and no doubt can make you beautiful crowns, but whether they are medically necessary is questionable. I just had a cleaning done today. To be fair I never saw Dr. Singh but I had an awful experience at his clinic and his dental hygienist Uni had the worst bed side manor I have ever experienced. She was over 20 minutes late. She started by showing me a youtube video on how dental bacteria causes heart attacks and strokes and when I told her I just wanted the cleaning she told me 50% of heart attacks are from gum disease which is a blatant lie. She harassed me the rest of the appointment about how poor hygiene can be deadly and was super passive aggressive and sarcastic. She continued to harass me after I told her countless times to just please clean my teeth. At the end of the appointment she told me if her and "weren't a good match" I could ask for a different hygienist next time but I will NOT be returning. read more

I had a horrible experience and will not be back. My tooth had a hole in it and I asked for an appointment to which a "watch" was put on the tooth. Now my filling fell out 2 weeks later and when I schedule a follow-up I never saw Dr. Singh. They sat me in a chair for 20 minutes and I left. I emailed 3 times for a follow-up to date no return calls for the review of the x-ray that was to be done. They call for cancellation fees but for an emergency no call. He never did my exam and the staff is rude and unresponsive. I also asked for a copy of my records but I have no response and I think they charged me for an incomplete appt. which I have to backtrack for refund with my insurer. Not worth it and now I have to find another dentist. I think he put a watch to increase his profits for a crown. Bad dentist, I won't return. read more

I am in the process of getting dental implants. 5 of them. Yes, ouch. But the process has gone so much easier than I thought with Dr. Singh. I am admittedly a wuss about dental pain. But he has been great. The only step I have left is the last one, putting the caps on. He is meticulous in his preparation AND in "checking his work." He checks again and again to make sure everything is lined up properly, has healed properly. I have known other who got implants elsewhere. It is apparently not unusual to have all the bone grafts not take the first time. All of mine did. I had an unusual issue arise. One of my sinuses had dropped too low and would create a problem when drilling the hole in the bone for the post. He offered two options, giving suggestions as to what was likely the best option for me. In my case, I am old and had to take on open heart surgery in the middle of the implant process. There are special instructions from my heart doctors. He wanted the instructions in writing so that there would be no chance of his work being any problem for me. I like conscientiousness. I should admit that I get nervous over these things. I ask lots and lots of questions about exactly what is going to happen, what could possibly go wrong, how to deal with any issues. He has patiently explained everything in any depth I wanted to hear. Finally, the bonus. Getting implants is not cheap. He has found a way to get medicare to pay for part of the process. It saved me close to $10,000. I recommend anyone needing implants to at least talk with him as you look around. read more

I saw Dr Singh for about a year. During that time he extracted 4 teeth and (as I recollect) did one filling. All went well. Then he neglected to bring up the subject of a tooth implant to replace the first of the extracted teeth. Some six months had passed. I brought it up, and he said yes, I should have an implant because there could be dental problems around the site if we just left it. I asked some further questions about an implant but he did not answer them in sufficient detail. I went to another dentist for a second opinion. He took x rays and discovered at least two large cavities, perhaps three, that had not been identified by Dr. Singh. I saw two more dentists , who both said they were bad and should not have been missed. Since then, I've had one more extraction, a root canal, and can look forward to at least one more filling. read more

Disclosure: I am writing this review because they asked me to. Specifically, they solicited via mass email that people write Yelp reviews. The Service itself was fine - occurred in Sept 2011. I had one cleaning, then one "deep" cleaning. The dental assistants who performed them seems competent, and friendly. The problems I have were with the recommended services (frequency), and the misinformation I was given about what my insurer would cover. On the frequency problem: the recommend more cleanings than even the most generous health plan covers. That raised a question mark in my head regarding business practices. On the misinformation: They recommended a "deep cleaning" (I had some tartar and such). I had never heard of the procedure, so I naturally asked if it was covered, and to what extent. They assured it was fully covered. We never discussed price, since fully covered means I'm not out of pocket. Welp, turns out it wasn't, and that the deep cleaning is quite expensive. The part my insurer *didn't pay* was over $150. After I had both cleanings they wanted to put me on a plan for automatic appointments and cleaning. That left me feeling a bit icky. Like I was a vein of gold and they wanted nothing more than to "mine" me. read more
