I continue to proclaim that Mr. Rangchi is a conman and a crook. His response to my comment was devious and misguiding. No dentist only performs an exam and then books you for another visit to do the routine cleaning. Insurances cover preventative care which requires a preventative cleaning. His attempt to prolong my visits was a deliberate attempt at insurance fraud. He "diagnosed" me with periodontal decay midway through my routine cleaning with the dental hygienist and insisted I do a periodontal cleaning. Periodontal cleanings are done over 2-4 visits under anesthesia and performed by the dentist not an assistant, because they are very invasive and painful. This type of cleaning is mostly performed on older adults. As person that has been getting her teeth cleaned by a dentist every 6 months and getting x-rays once a year for 40 years and has never been told anything close to this "diagnosis", this is alarming. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't read his reviews until after I visited his office. I went to his office because he was a walking distance from my apartment and he was in my insurance network. READ ALL REVIEWS, start with the negative AND detailed ones. The ones with no comments or bubbly short comments are most likely fake. Conmen know how to game the review systems. My explanation of benefits stated he had performed a periodontal cleaning over a period of two visits. As he said in his response, I only visited his office once as a new patient and never visited his office again. I reported him to my insurance for fraud and to the board of dentists of California. However, these systems are built on trust bestowed on the dentists, and the paperwork submitted, whether truthful or not. Only after multiple people report him will they actually investigate him. CHECK YOUR EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS! If his diagnosis seems extreme, get a second opinion. Don't fall for the conman's sense of urgency. If he makes you feel like you have to take care of it right away, it means he doesn't want you to research it and educate yourself or get a second opinion. REPORT INSURANCE FRAUD. I have since visited 2 dentists and had 4 routine preventative exams and cleanings. Not once has another dentists said I have periodontal decay. He clearly lied and committed insurance fraud. I have been seeing Dr. Rangchi for the past 5 years. He is consistently professional, caring, friendly, and up front about the condition of my teeth and what my options would be. I had an old filling which was falling out (not his work) and he put a crown on it - I have had no problems and you can't tell I have it. I also had some slightly exposed root where the gum had receded and he put a protective fix on it. Again, can't tell and no problems. Recently I had gotten poor scores for gum health (you know, those numbers they call out and your shame starts to build??). It had been getting worse and I use an electric toothbrush but I hadn't been flossing well. Dr. Rangchi did a deep gum cleaning and then a follow up a month later. I made sure to start flossing every day (yes, every day, not lying to the dentist for once!). My scores were hugely improved and he used the word "textbook." My insurance (Cigna) required this follow up visit in order to cover both visits, and it was no problem. I was glad I went back because it was good to know the procedure really helped. They also recommended a prescription mouthwash which is awesome (Peridex) and leaves your teeth feeling like you just brushed them for hours afterward. I also wanted to say that the front desk help and the assistants have always been extremely friendly. I am not kept waiting long and they are good about making the follow-up appointments and reminding you. Dr. Rangchi is very knowledgeable and personable. He always asks about how my kids are doing and we chat. It's a nice office. I really enjoy my time at the dentist - as much as one can! read more

A friend of mine had been going to Dr. Rangchi for a while. Every time he came back, I told him, it sounded like a scam dentist and he needed to find a better one. The dentist kept pushing products and claimed my friend needed to go in every 3 months and wanted to charge for all these extra products. Then he claimed my boyfriend should have his old silver fillings taken out for "natural ones." The natural ones fell out in less than a week. On top of that, the terrible quality people who work there paid no attention when my friend had to go back because the fillings fell out and he fractured a tooth. (I blame the shoddy work they'd done on the fillings for the tooth fracture.) ON TOP OF THAT, they also made him pay for the work they had to do to REDO on the fillings that fell out because they did a terrible job the first time. They said they'd redo the fillings and paid no attention to the tooth fracture. They sent him home without any painkillers despite him telling them he was in a lot of pain. Go find a better dentist. He's a better businessman than he is a dentist. Two times in 9 months he requested I get x-rays, the second time was completely unnecessary, but they have a VERY expensive Xray machine his office was paying for. On two occasions, I had very small fillings done and both times the fillings fell out. Dr. Rangchi said "We'll just leave it the way it is" No mention of refunding $1000 he charged me. He replaced Dr. Kenneth Rotman, the best dentist I ever had. Find a different dentist, he's nice enough but he's very expensive and miserly in his billing. Once I dropped in for a 1 minute consultation and I was sent a bill for $50. So cheap it was a real turn-off, Mr. Rangchi has taken on too much debt and will pass the costs on to you. I certainly wish Mr Rangchi would take it upon himself to refund the bill for the service he was unable to perform. I found a much better dentist, which wasn't difficult. I felt this review was nicer than my billing and dental experiences with Mr. Rangchi. I'm only sorry I had to give him one star. read more

I have been knowing Dr. Rangchi and his team for almost a year. I am very much an introvert, but from day 1, I have felt as if I am always visiting friends. When we were preparing for my Invisalign treatment, I wasn't the easiest patient when they were fitting me to get my Invisalign trays made. No one likes going to the dentist, but I'll tell ya. I hadn't had a cleaning or even an exam in years..literally. About a month ago, I felt a small crack on the inside of one of my teeth, close to my gum(s). I have never had a cavity in my life, so I figured that maybe my perfect record was over. Sooo, I made the appt. with Dr. Rangchi. The office is nice, bright and comfy. Judy at the front desk is awesome and pretty hilarious. All in all, my experience here has been great. No cavities and no plaque build-up! I guess the roasted and lightly salted pea (and very crunchy) snacks that I'm currently addicted to ripped my gum and exposed a little too much tooth, which was causing the sensitivity. I had a cleaning and got fitted for my night guard in literally 20-25 minutes! There is never a wait of more than 5 minutes once you arrive in the office. Dr. Rangchi is so friendly and funny. Dr. Alex Rangchi has been our family dentist for a number of years. Over time I had a few emergencies and he has always been available, including a Sunday morning case. He is so highly skilled that my visits to his office are a pleasant experience. This past year I needed a crown, and I asked for a minimal size repair that turned out to be a problem. He nicely agreed to attempt to meet my original request, and later on he had to fix the crown by replacing it with a larger one. He didn't charge me for the additional work. I've been seeing Dr. Rangchi for two years and have been very happy with his and his professional staff's services.

Dr. Rangchi is simply the best! I've been going to him since I was a teenager (and then throughout college and now as I'm working), and he's always friendly, patient, and extremely attentive. He's not the stereotypical, "out for your money dentist" - he gives honest opinions, and his staff goes out of their way to find the lowest cost for you. Dr. Rangchi is also a bit of a perfectionist - he wouldn't let me leave until my post-braces retainers fit perfectly! I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but if you are avoiding the dentist because of pain, I highly recommend Dr.Rangchi to you. He has one of the most calming voices I've ever heard and he's VERY gentle if you have sensitive gums or teeth. I'd also give his staff 5 stars. Dianne, his dental assistant, is also a perfectionist and very thorough with her work. Not to mention she is hilarious!!! Good thing she toned down the funny before teeth cleaning/polishing :) One more gush - the office has up-to-date equipment and looks like a spa. I recommend avoiding Dr. Rangchi, who seems to be far more interested in pushing services than your oral/financial health. I went to see Dr. Rangchi as a new patient. I walked out of there with a long list of procedures that needed to be done (basically complete replacement of all my fillings, plus a crown and deep cleaning), without any explanation. This was 180 degrees opposite from my previous dentist, who basically told me how my teeth were doing and what was truly worrisome. Since clearly his recommendations were overkill, I asked for a copy of my X-rays for a second opinion. It was only after that, when I went back for a cleaning, did he explain three things that really needed to be done within the next few months. Because I mentioned I was going overseas for a while, he stressed the importance of doing all that work here, implying they don't have quality dentists overseas. I should also add that the cleaning was not nearly as good as my previous dentist, so I do question the quality of his work. From a business perspective his approach makes sense: push as much as you possibly can if you have no information about how rich/poor/easily-convinced the patient is. A bit like a car salesman. However, what this indicates is that Dr. Rangchi is more interested in squeezing as much money out of you as possible than ensuring you have the best oral health experience (minimal unnecessary procedures). read more

Dr. Rangchi has been my dentist for the last 4 years since returning to the Bay Area post-college. The staff is very respectful of my time in regards to scheduling and communicate directly with my insurance to make sure my procedures are covered as much as possible. In one of my initial visits I had to get my lower wisdom teeth removed and after it was all said and done I couldn't believe how much smoother and less painful it was with Dr. Rangshi than when I had my upper wisdom teeth removed. He is great at addressing any questions, and making the necessary small talk that's so much a part of the dentist experience. His staff is also excellent, overall, but I have to mention Judy (the receptionist), who may be one of the nicest human beings alive. Not only does she have an incredibly pleasant demeanor, but she has been really easy to work with, even with odd shifts in my insurance coverage and my seeming inability to remember relevant insurance-related information. Dr. Rangchi is the shadiest dentist I've ever met. At my first appointment with him as a new patient he told me i needed 8 teeth filled because I had cavities and I needed a deep cleaning. My insurance coverage changed so that's why I was no longer with my previous dentist, who I just saw 6 months ago for my annual check up and he never mentioned anything about me needing 8 fillings or a deep cleaning. I returned to my old dentist & he confirmed what I already knew, that his recommendations were not necessary. I'd rather pay more out of pocket than see a crook like Dr.Rangchi. Never NEVER thought I would gush about a dentist, but let me gush. Dr. Rangchi has a gentle and kind demeanor with a quick sense of humor. That would be irrelevant if he were a crappy dentist, but he is a WONDERFUL dentist for me and my children. He has replaced my old fillings and crowned one of my teeth--my mind wandered during these visits (this from the queen of pain and anxiety), and the work has proven over the years to be excellent. He's young, he understands kids and respects personal values, and he is incredibly skilled at what he does. I can't recommend him AND HIS STAFF enough. Facilities, staff, and doctor himself are all great. With all the work I've had done so far (fillings, crowns, scalings), never experienced issues. Doctor Rangchi very hands on, e.g. not one of those say Hi and give a quick look than gone dentists. Explains everything they're doing in way that's easy to understand. Stay away from this dentist! I wish I could give him negative starts. He put in a fake (i.e. temporary crow) and charged for a porcelain one. Good thing I filed a complain with the dental insurance when I felt this guy was trying to rip me off when I called him to let him know I was not happy with my crown. My tooth was too sensitive and the pain would not go away after 6 months with it. He wanted to charge extra money to fix whatever the problem was. The insurance company sent me to have it checked and that's when I found out he had put in a temporary crown and charged for a ceramic one. I would have need it a crown replacement probably in less than a year. The dental insurance company made him pay back all the money (about $1,200). read more

I had a strange feeling in my stomach about Dr. Rangchi after seeing him. It stayed with me for months, so I finally searched reviews to see what others were saying about him. I should of looked at the reviews prior to booking an appointment. I agree with the reviewers that said he pushes a lot of unecessary work. He recommended several services beyond just filling cavities including a mouth guard for teeth grinding and deep cleaning of my teeth. During the appointment, he's dental assistant kept telling me he never over prescribes which I thought was strange. He recommended I have several small cavities filled which I obliged-- however, I went to a different dentist 6 months prior and he said I had no cavities or issues at all. After I had the fillings done, the teeth he worked on were in pain for several months. I never went back hoping the pain would subside. I never experienced this pain after having fillings done by other dentists. He was very nice, but I could just never get over that gut feeling like something was wrong after seeing him. read more

I have been Dr. Rangchi's patient for about eight years, and both my son and my husband are his patients as well. He is the best dentist I have had in my long life -- expert, caring, efficient. As I have grown older, along with regular cleaning and check-ups, I have needed more intensive work on my teeth: crowns, an extraction or two, a root canal, a bridge. One of the first things I noticed about his method was his expertise in administering anesthetic. He is careful to avoid causing pain, and he tells me precisely what I am going to feel (this will be cold, this will be sour, you will feel a little pinch, etc.) before it happens. He is responsive to how I feel -- if I need to take a break or something is not comfortable, he will immediately stop and respond. He is very good at showing and explaining what the work entails. It is necessary for a good dentist to be both strong and gentle, and Dr. Rangchi is both, very sensitive to patient's needs and gentle in his movements, but strong enough to do an extraction of a molar. He has made himself available for dental emergencies and is great about maintenance of teeth, checking frequently for problems and giving a heads-up about problems in the making. His office staff is efficient, and I have been very happy with my care there. Some reviewers have complained that he is expensive -- I have not found that to be the case. He is flexible about payment and works well with insurance companies. Others wrote that he pushed unnecessary work on them... I have not seen this either. He offered teeth-whitening to my husband, but when my husband declined, that was not a problem. It is common for people to remove old amalgam fillings and replace them, so if he suggested that to some patients, it was not out of order -- I have had other dentists suggest this, for health reasons (the old metal fillings are not particularly safe). At any rate, I agree with the positive reviews and recommend him wholeheartedly. read more
