Hey hey now, I've been Dr. Lee's patient for more than 5 years. She's helped me through thick and thin. More like through wisdom teeth and cavities. She's been there for me in emergencies like infections and been nothing short of awesome She's fun, hip, and I always enjoy talking to her with her hands all up in my grill. She's got a really gentle hand and is very conscientious to her patients' pain. I can't complain. A few points from the other reviewer (Forrest Y.) don't make sense to me: 1) He came to see Forbes but Amy saw him. Did it ever cross your mind that it took so long to see you because she was covering for Forbes? 2) They have parking at the office. Read much? 3) Your dentist isn't your insurance agent. I've been seeing Dr. Lee since the beginning of her practice, or somewhere close to that, when she used to do everything from start to end, cleaning and polishing and checking... now she has a hygenist to do the polishing but it's all still a great experience. Waited about 15 minutes in the waiting room per visit, not too bad. She's always super friendly and gentle, and when I mentioned that my retainers broke in the past few months, she offered to make me new ones for only $50 per retainer, and that was done instantly, ready for pick up in 2 days! I was really happy about that. For parking, yes, Solano parking is 90 min only, but they let you park alongside the building on the right-hand side, so I always park there without a hitch. For the past year I've been a patient at Dr. Alexander's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/denise-alexander-dds-berkeley) a decision that was almost entirely motivated by: 1) the close proximity to that office, and 2) the fact they took Berkeley's Delta Dental staff insurance. After many bloody (read: bad) encounters at Dr. Alexander's, I moved to El Cerrito and my bf's Solano dentist (i.e. Dr. Forbes) was recommended to me. I called to initiate the switch, and the receptionist offered me appointments that DAY w/Forbes (!) and the NEXT DAY w/Lee (!!). I agreed to the next day (w/Lee) for a general checkup and cleaning. 1 star) Front-desk staff. For me coming through the door a tad bit late (thanks Solano traffic), and not being chastised (and fined up the butt) for that...I am grateful. I also like that the staff did not sing and applaud like the little giggling monkeys at Dr. Alexander's office. 2 star) The paperwork was blissfully short (1 page front and back). Also, they DID NOT make me sign 80 malpractice waivers (which always makes me feel like I'm dealing with lawyers rather then dentists). 3 star) The attempt to save me money (and for them, time) by forgoing the whole "new patient = full mouth x-ray" deal. They did x-ray the one problem tooth I had (at my request). Also, mad props to their system. It's a low-radiation, instant-computer scan . Darn awesome experience to sit there and watch the scans come up one by one right after your x-ray. Not a bad monitor either. 4 star) I agree with Stella. VERY PAINFUL CLEANING. However, I kinda feel clean. Sore, but clean. Works for me. 5 star) Lee herself was very attentive when I whined about the "problem tooth". Didn't immediately say the words "root-canal" (which was the primary reason I will never return to Dr. Alexander). -1 star) Uh, I left there without a bill. The cheerful-but-not-giggling front staff seemed to have done nothing by ways of running my insurance when I was in the chair. I'm a Berkeley grad student, so I appreciate a dentist who's (1) efficient, (2) pleasant, and (3) reasonably priced. Dr. Lee is all of these things. At her office, my regularly scheduled teeth cleaning was covered entirely by SHIP. I do recommend parking on a side street when you go to see her, since you can park on side streets for longer than 90 minutes. I left Dr. Lee's office today so happy that I literally teared up on my way out the door. I am so very grateful and extremely fortunate to have Dr. Amy Lee for my dentist! I was having a tooth emergency - they squeezed me in the same day and Dr. Lee and her hygienist Laura calmed me down and took care of it, and totally made my day. I have been seeing Dr. Lee and her associates for I think about 3-4 years now; a friend referred me to her. Her staff is just wonderful - so friendly and welcoming. And her hygienist Laura is superb - I see her at most of my visits. I have also been seen by her associate, Dr. Jessica Petzoid, and she is great as well! They are all young, and always so nice and easy to talk to; I never feel awkward or uncomfortable like I always have at other dentist practices. They communicate well and keep you involved in the treatment process. Their office was just recently renovated and is very modern and comfortable... I could easily fall asleep in their exam chairs! There is a nice, relaxing view of Solano Avenue while you're getting examined or cleaned. I do not have dental insurance which can make going to the dentist very scary, but their rates are extremely reasonable. We love this dental office! After years of searching for good and competent dentists under our old insurance, we are so glad that we changed our insurance and now are able to come here. Everyone in the office is excellent and we have been extremely happy with Dr Lee and Dr Petzold in particular. They are both wonderful, caring, down to earth, with a good sense of humor. Going to the dentist is never fun, but they make it as comfortable as possible. We appreciate their honesty and their thoughtfulness through the whole process. The receptionist, Cathy, is also super nice. She is always cheerful and really makes patients feel welcome. We've also interacted with Annie, who has really been helpful when dealing with insurance. Best dentist I've been to in years. The dental hygenist was quick, professional and painless, but Dr. Lee was the one who actually went over the x-rays with me and did the cleaning. I have been a patient of Dr. Lee's for many years. She is a very knowledgeable and skilled practitioner. She also is a very kind person who is gentle in her work. I have been seeing her for over 10 years. I have also had good experiences with her dental hygienists. Her office staff are friendly and very competent. I have recommended friends to her and they have thanked me profusely. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to write this review except that now that we are in a pandemic, I am spending more time with my computer! Speaking of the pandemic, I was a little nervous to come in and get my teeth cleaned and get X-rays and an exam during Covid, but everything went very smoothly. Dr. Lee really went above and beyond in her care. First of all, she was kind, knowledgable, and very gentle in her work. No pain, and I felt very well informed about what was going on and what to expect. Secondly, I had to have a filling on one tooth. Not only did she do a great job filling it, but she fixed a problem area on the neighboring tooth for free. I knew about the problem area on the neighboring tooth and decided to wait on it because of price, but because of Dr. Lee's kindness and excellent work, all teeth are now all systems a go. I like Amy, but I've had repeated billing problems with her office. For some reason they don't provide written estimates ahead of time (they haven't for me at least), and every time they've given me a verbal estimate the final cost has been significantly higher. One of my bills was even sent to collections (they mailed the second/final notice to the wrong address while I was waiting for them to call me back about a question I had on the initial bill). read more

I will never return! The front desk woman is completely inept! I had an appointment with Dr. Lee - the woman who took me back, I thought was an assistant, when I asked about Dr Lee, she said no you only will see her once a year not twice a year. I thought sounded odd, but I thought maybe the assistant did the cleaning. The cleaning wasn't great - she seemed a bit inexperienced and it wasn't as thorough a cleaning as I had with my previous dentist. When I left I checked in with the front desk to schedule my next appointment with Dr Lee and she said she must have had a patient with the same name so she got confused. And I went with a different dentist. What?? The front staff replied, 'well she cleaned your teeth didn't she?' Was she asking if medical malpractice was an issue! I left saying I will never return. In all fairness I called and tried to speak with Dr Lee directly but I was told she was with a patient. Update: Dr. Lee was very apologetic for her staff. read more

Dr. Amy Lee is amazing. I recommend her SO highly, I would give her 6 stars if I could. Every time I go to her office, I think, yes, THIS is how health practitioners should operate! I've been seeing her for about 4 years now and I really appreciate her. Not only is Dr. Lee incredibly competent, friendly, and knowledgeable, she doesn't push unneccessary procedures on you. She is great and responsive to questions and explains her reasons and any procedures she conducts. Her office staff is also great. Can you believe it, they are always ON TIME! Believe it or not, its great! Very considerate and friendly office staff and assistants, that make your experience positive. They were on time for my routine appointments, and even when I had a last minute problem they squeezed me in right away. I've been a patient for about 5 years. Until recently, I only saw her every six months for cleanings, but I recently cracked a tooth and have spent a lot of time in her office. She is nice, friendly, GENTLE and sweet. I've never had a dentist I liked better. The dentist who will be filling in during her maternity leave, Dr. Wei, is just as nice. She even called me one evening after an appointment to make sure I was OK. Her dental assistant Laura lent me a walkman to listen to during my last appointment because she could tell how upset I was. She is one of the best, definitely the best dentist I have been to. Also great for children! I have been going there for almost 2 years myself. The options she presented were always less intrusive than what other, more triggerhappy dentists would have suggested, but were spot on: The split tooth got me a crown that hasn't caused any problems, at another visit, just adjusting a filling stopped the tooth pain I experienced when biting down. Yesterday I took my 9 year old son, who has developed a severe dentist phobia over the years, there for the first time. He had a toothache from a lost filling, so we really needed to go. Prepared for the usual tears and screams of anger and betrayal, and had to bribe him to go at all. But Dr. Lee was calm and friendly and matter-of-factly, adjusting her behavior well to his personality. (There is also the option of the child watching Netflix during the procedure, but my son chose not to, so he could keep an eye on what was going on inside of his mouth). The whole thing went very smoothly, and was overall a surprisingly positive experience, with the doctor answering all of his questions. Afterwards, my son told me he didn't deserve the full reward, because Dr. Lee did most of the work. We agreed they could share the goods: He would get a smaller present and I would write a positive review for her. Highly recommended. Both offices have a great staff as well! read more

Although I'm very happy for this, I will miss Dr. Lee, my marvelous co-workers, and our wonderful patients terribly. Closer to 4.5. I've been using Dr. Lee for about 3 years. The office is pretty quick and efficient, and Dr. Lee is very nice. After your initial cleaning, you tend to only see her every other visit after the cleaning. I've been pretty lucky the last few years, so I've barely seen her. She's on the conservative side and likes to wait things out before starting procedures (which I like, and it saves money too). Most of the hygienists are pretty good, but some have been better than others. You spend most or all of your time with them, so the less good ones really stick out! read more

My family recently switched over to Dr. Amy K. Lee. My five year-old daughter had a rather traumatic experience at our previous dentist (a highly recommended pediatric dentist), over a tooth cleaning. Dr. Lee is really great with kids (I think she has kids herself). She spent a lot of time with my daughter, bringing her in and out of the office, playing games with her, making balloon animals out of latex gloves, bribing her with toys, and all with a lot of fun and patience. I am new to the area and was looking for a dentist and other providers. Of course, Yelp is a good resource in such circumstances and I have always been pleased with Yelp recommended resources. I made an appt with Dr. Amy Lee. A few hours before my appointment, my front crown fell off and broke. I went into her office with it in hand and broken into 4 pieces and my front tooth missing. I was afraid that they wouldn't be able to help because I was one of the last patients for the day. I approached the front desk with my hand over my mouth and said I was in big trouble and embarassed - "Can you help?" The hygenist came right over to the desk and assured that they wouldn't let me leave without a temporary crown in front. Dr. Lee is a gentle young woman who took time and provided excellent care. The permanent crown was ready within one week. I highly recommend this dentist for anyone but especially those of you who have anxiety about various procedures. She never lets you feel out of control of decisions, as is true for some providers. Temporarily on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley, she will return to her remodeled office on Solano this fall. read more

I have been going to this dentist for years. Dr. Lee joined a few years back and I had never seen her before. Might I just say I was completely unimpressed with her professionalism. I heard her talking down to her assistant outside the room before she came in. I received a very impolite "open" from her as she sat down, no hello or anything. Then she said "yup" to the assistant and walked out of the room. That is how i learned that i had a cavity. I will never see her again, not matter what was bothering her, she did not need to be rude to me, I was only in for a cleaning and a check up. After I left the room I went to schedule an appointment to have my cavity taken care of. The same two women have always helped me. Well this time they were unavailable and I got to talk to annie. Lets just say after she got upset because i did not understand her i just left. I did not need to deal with a pissed off person who i could not understand. All hope was lost when I asked her to repeat herself because i did not understand what she had said. I guess I will have to call an make an appointment at some other date. read more

I have just today, thanks in part to Yelp, discovered Dr Amy Lee. She is very sweet and generous and seems focused, informed, and competent. (Her demeanor is youthful, unassuming, eager to please.) She uses digital x-rays to reduce the levels of radiation both her staff and her patients are exposed to. I went to Amy Lee's office worried about new pain in the root area of a tooth I almost lost thanks to a inadequate exam by Holly Wieber--urged by Dr Elizabeth Ashiku of Ukiah, Mendocino who saved that tooth--to get follow up care. I had to find someone competent in Berkeley and was giving up hope after my bad experience with Dr Wieber. But Dr Lee gave me great treatment and only charged me for the x-rays! After what could have easily been a $90 visit, I was only charged $31. How kind! If you're in Berkeley and need a dentist, Dr. Amy Lee strikes me as a very good one. read more

So so upset with this dentists office -- an example of my frequent critique of how community health care is no community at all. We have been going to Dr Lee for almost five years, every member of our five member family, paying out of pocket for huge treatments for my mother who was visiting from out of country. One of the treatments done by this office even got my mother sent to the ER but we never complained. We got our last treatments, fillings etc done by her last May when we were leaving to travel out of the country for six months. We informed Kathy and others at the reception. We just got back and the first thing we do is receive calls from debt collections for a pending bill that was not covered by insurance. I called their office and was informed that they called us ONCE, once mark you and sent us to the debtors. Our credit score is now dinged. DR LEE, we have been your patients for five years!!! This dentist is a nice person but my expereince with her is that she is a terrible dentist - she left me with an on going infection in my mouth with the hasty and wrong treatment. She does not listen and pursued her treatment plan with out regard to the symtoms I was having just to get the job done quickly. Awesome experience at this dentist. I hadn't been to the dentist in 2 years, I made an appointment without really knowing much. First, there's plenty of parking in the street, and the front desk was awesome. I go in, and immediately (within 5 minutes) get called in. Not only was my hygienist professional, she was also very thorough, quick with the x-rays, and my teeth felt extremely clean afterward! My hygienist also recommended brushing softer to avoid receding the gums, which was great advice (because I definitely brush too hard sometimes). Dr. Lee came in, and she was also very welcoming and nice. She showed and explained everything on the screen with my x-rays (which my previous dentists had never done before) which was helpful in understanding how I should take care of my gum line and bone line. Very professional experience. I would highly recommend making an appointment with this office. read more

Dr. Amy Lee has super hero status in my eyes. She just treated my six year old for a cavity an he came through it like a walk in the park. He was scared and not cooperative, and Dr. Lee and her assistants did not balk in the least. She has taken care of me, too, once for a broken tooth when I was nine months pregnant and about to deliver. I was very upset (long story), but she saw me right away, and got something on my tooth before I could get it fixed properly. The receptionists are also just stellar, kind, friendly and helpful.
