1. I found out about Henry's Muffler from a small independent Toyota shop.
2. My dealer quoted me nearly $5,000 for complete exhaust replacement for my older Toyota Landcruiser. Toyota's catalytic converters alone were $1,500 each ! Not counting another $1,000 for the tail pipe and another $500-$750 for labor. When a dealer quotes you a range like that, don't be shocked when the invoice is at the high end, they'll ALWAYS call and say 'Oh, we ran into a rusty pipe that was hard to remove or something like that to get a price increase. What are you going to say 'Oh, I'll just drive around with that rusty pipe' ?
3. I could NOT afford that, the truck wouldn't pass inspection without new CATS so Henry's was my only hope. I was VERY pleasantly surprised, NO....SHOCKED is more like it at the experience at Henry's.
4. Unbelievable in this day and age ! Brand new stainless steel exhaust system with a little more rumble, two NEW Hi-Flow catalytic converters, and even a fancy stainless steel exhaust tip for $525 ! ( this is 10% of the dealers quote ) Well.....to be fair and accurate, the dealer's quote included the front part of the exhaust which I didn't need but I got the distinct impression from Toyota dealer personnel that if you drive a Landcruiser then you're affluent and can afford sky high prices. NOT TRUE for my 5 adult family. If the OEM parts are so great why did my original catalytic converters fail at less than 147,000 miles. ( Well, the auto people blame the 10% methanol ( alcohol made from corn ) for all kinds of things these days, lawn mower carbs clogging, etc. )
5. Donald is a really great guy ! He's friendly, knowledgable, and I think very fair and honest. He showed me my problem under my car, made constructive suggestions, gave me options and worked within my budget. The lady at the front desk is a little overworked but keeps her sense of humor. The waiting area is small but clean and a CLEAN restroom.
6. Latest results: My fuel economy went up 2-3 MPG ! An added bonus, I don't mind the rumble, it was louder at first than my wife preferred and Henry's added a special resonator to make the exhaust quieter at a very small charge. Strangely the MPG went up slightly after that BUT then I realized I'm not using the A/C as much so not a scientific measure I guess.
7. For ANY exhaust needs I don't see why you'd go anywhere else, particularly for the shiny stainless steel exhaust with its greater longevity and Henry's 2-Year Warranty. FYI to get stainless steel exhaust from a auto manufacturer, usually only High-End cars although Subaru has it.
( sorry I'm so verbose and long-winded, I just get carried away when I discover a Service Provider like Henry's. )
PS. I drove from Chapel Hill to Millbrook & Old Wake Forest Rd. in Raleigh. Well worth the drive, Walked down to the corner and had lunch while waiting for 1.5 hours. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, THEY ARE BUSY ! read more
