Put our name on the list and after about a 20 minute wait we got 2 seats at the old timey counter with a birds' eye view of the busy & efficient cooks and the mound of home fries ready to be loaded on the flattop. Our waitress was Grace and she was the epitome of her name! Looked over the menu and boy oh boy was it hard to decide. Like Guy Fieri-not a fan of eggs...but the ones I saw served looked picture perfect. We opted for lunch & both had the hot turkey open faced sandwich. It was very reasonably priced and came with soup or salad and two sides. We both chose mashed potatoes (real)! I chose soup...homemade harvest vegetable (yum) and slaw. My friend was extra hungry and ordered us a side of loaded taters. They were fabulous. Potato chunks fried and mixed with green onions, mushrooms, bacon, cheese and sides of salsa & sour cream! Dinner was served promptly. It looked so good I forgot to photograph. And it was. Really good. Like eat everything on your plate good. Desserts were cherry or apple pie, baklava or chocolate cake. Of course I was too full for dessert at that moment but took a slice of cherry pie (which incidentally, I ate for breakfast.) It was worthy! I cannot say enough kind words about this place and I can assure you I will be back. You should try it too! read more

It's 6:50am in the morning, the place is practically empty and they are requiring reservations. Turns out there was a single waitress working the entire diner. It was also state law supposedly to call ahead and/or have reservations. The place was actually packed within minutes and there was a customer at every table that could be sat at given COVID restrictions. Of course the food was good. I had the Vermonter skillet. My only complaint is they could ditched the hash browns since it came with corned beef hash. The best part of this diner was watching the hardest working waitress I have ever seen. She was amazing coordinating everything, doing everything, and doing so at a vigor that was mind blowing. Another woman stopped into the restaurant to say "Hi" to the waitress. She called her "Mom" but I suspect that was not her daughter but one of many young men and women this waitress might know that calls her "Mom". I had such happy memories of Henry's from prior trips to Burlington several years ago. I was excited to go back, but our most recent visit (7/22/18) was not as great. We were seated around the corner from the main area, where no one else was seated, and then basically ignored. Our server never brought my husband's splenda, he had to go up front to ask for it. I never got my hot chocolate, and didn't bother trying to find her - I was just glad I didn't get charged for it (she obviously didn't even write it down). I ordered the Vermonter skillet, eggs over easy - they were way overcooked. Of course, our server was MIA and I had to go find someone. They remade the eggs, undercooked this time, and took 10 minutes to get them (over easy eggs should only take a minute or two - especially when they're undercooked), so by that time the rest of my food was cold. Home fries were way undercooked as well. My husband did like his Irish eggs benedict. But overall, it doesn't seem to be on par with the quality and service that I remember from Henry's in the past. Just okay...definitely skip it if you're only in town for a few days, there are better places to go. read more

HOW MUCH FOR EXTRA SYRUP??? I'm in Burlington for work and decided to go to Henry's Diner for breakfast. To be honest, the breakfast was the best ive had in a while. Henrys big breakfast with poached eggs, ham, and all that comes with it was delicious. A very friendly server that called everybody "friend" made for a nice dining experience. Until we got our check and realized that they charge extra for syrup for the pancakes. They give you what they call a "measured pour" of syrup which isn't enough for one order never mind two. There were two of us eating and each of us had pancakes with our breakfast. So we asked for more syrup and to our surprise we were charged extra for the plastic container that came with the "measured pour"! Now I do understand that Vermont syrup is expensive to make etc but before charging extra for it, at least give the patrons enough syrup for the initial application. As insulting as that is, and in my 67 years on this planet this has never happened, I'd rather pay a couple extra bucks for the breakfast and not see "upcharge" syrup costs on the bill. What's next, a charge for butter and ice cubes? read more

I love a good diner so we walked to Henry's. The place is really tiny and we had a short wait of about 5 minutes, but definitely prepare for a longer wait during peak times on weekends. The decor is cheery and bright with yellow accents. I ordered a basic breakfast with over medium eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes with Vermont cheddar added. My boyfriend got the Benedict. Both dishes were really well done. I generally use the basic breakfast as a baseline and this one didn't disappoint! The bacon was good quality and the potatoes were small cubes instead of big chunks, which I like. The Benedict was another classic that was executed well, and the hollandaise was the best I've ever had -- super rich and a bit thicker than most I've tried. It was perfectly emulsified and not broken at all, definitely homemade. Our server was great and super polite. He kept our water and coffee topped off the whole time we were there. There was a line out the door when we left - this place is popular for a reason. Pricing is reasonable, with the basic breakfast with meat around $9 and the eggs Benedict $12. We trekked all the way to Burlington Vermont and went to breakfast at Henry's Diner. It was wonderful! We both ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. It was just too much food! The order came with Chicken fried steak, 2 eggs, home fries and choice of toast, biscuit or english muffin and sausage gravy!!!!! To say that it was delicious would be an understatement! It was amazing! The chicken fried steak was so tender, the sausage gravy was to die for! And the biscuit... oh my!!! I could have had that and been in happyville. I was really looking forward to a "crispy" hash brown casserole as mentioned on the menu. However my casserole was uncooked, not fully warm and definitely not crispy. My scrambled eggs were completely dry. Toast came with my meal and I requested gluten free per my allergy and was upcharged for it, when no up charge was shown in the menu or mentioned by the server. I asked for a water and never got one. I sat there for about forty minutes waiting for water and to speak with a server. When they came finally we were told we would be comped but all that was comped was the side of hash brown casserole for less than $5. My breakfast companion, who has been a customer off and on since 1989, ordered his eggs sunny side up and instead got over medium, and just ate them. It is unlikely that either of us will return. I left without eating any breakfast. Very poor service, not a great experience and the food was sub par. Thankfully Friendly Toast was right around the corner and exceeded expectations on both food and service and I did not leave hungry. read more

They open early! So, if you're an early bird, this is the place for you. I thought it was going to be a "greasy spoon", but the quality is much better than I anticipated. Nothing was actually swimming in grease and everything was delicious. I kept it simple with a breakfast sandwich: egg, cheese and turkey bacon on whole wheat. The bread is nice and thick; perfectly toasted. (You have a choice of grilled or toasted bread). My companion had one of the breakfast skillets and it was a TON of food. If you're super hungry and need to load up on carbs and protein, go for one of the skillets. I liked the hash browns served on the side with my sandwich...they could have been a bit hotter but they tasted great. Coffee was good and constantly refilled. Service was excellent and friendly. Absolutely adorable tiny place- maybe ten tables and a half dozen counter seats. We came in about an hour before closing time on Halloween. The hostess and the server were both super friendly. I got the apple cider milkshake, which was fantastic and generous. I also got the special which was buffalo chicken salad with unlimited soup. They only do a soup of the day and today it was split pea. The soup was good, definitely homemade. The salad was a bit cheap in the chicken (two very small tenders) but the mixed greens were fresh and topped with cucumber, tomato and onion. J got the meat skillet with a biscuit. The biscuit was huge and perfectly baked. The skillet was average but not at all bad. Two meals, one soft drink and a milkshake was $31 before tip. I'd return! read more

The hollandaise sauce was quite tasty as well. The combo was a win and if Henry's was by my house, I'd be in far too often. We got the Vermonter, a homemade corned beef hash, which came with home fries, Vermont cheddar, 2 eggs, and a biscuit (but you can choose toast or an English muffin). It was insanely delicious -- perfectly spiced and on the salty side that makes a good corned beef. The potatoes were perfectly cooked. These were the largest eggs I've ever seen, cooked to runny perfection. I will be dreaming of this hash for years to come. We went to the waterfront and sat on benches to enjoy our feast.
