I put in an appetizer order for cheese curds right away, knowing I wanted to try them- but when you order appetizers, service slows. They don't take your order for regular food right away. Meanwhile, bathroom situation here is one stall rooms. AKA- one at a time- that was a little brutal. Cheese curds were phenominal- only better I've had were in Milwaukee! Food was ordered and it took forever and a day- my poor niece didn't get her food till everyone was finished eating. She actually left and stood in line for the bathroom to avoid watching us all eat. I felt horrible for her. Meanwhile- everyone's food was fabulous. Except mine. John and I ordered the philly cheesesteak. There was not nearly enough meat. The burgers that hit the table- huge, juicy and cheesey. The charcuterie board- spectacular! The bowl of soup huge and filling. Our cheesesteak- bread and a ton of cheese and over cooked meat that didn't meet the ratio of meat-bread-cheese. For a very small, curated menu- I expected everything to be delicious. The food was exceptional. I had a grit bowl, which consisted of cheese grits, covered with sausage and bacon, along with a cheese sauce covered with two eggs over easy. Wow, what a flavor bomb. With the added butter and toasted on the grill biscuit, it was perfect. The wife had a bacon egg and cheese biscuit with a side of grits, which was perfect as well. The service was great. This certainly cranked up the bill. I had the pork chop, which was really small despite the declared weight and the price of $45. The taste was good, but didn't really impress me. The daily blue had skin that was charred, but the fish part was good. My daughter wasn't impressed with that. The chicken sandwiches, however, were a hit. Go figure. All but the daily blue ordered a side dish. Two had the mashed potatoes, which were good, I ordered the side with stringy cheese, prosciutto, peaches, and sliced peppers. No flavor. I get the bill and there is a $9.40-something charge in there for a "non-cash transaction". Also, my two drinks were charged a dollar more than the menu price. With everything there at a premium price (a larger and much better pork chop can be had at St James for more than $10 less - with sides!), everything is a la carte, and a silly charge for not having cash means I'm done with Liam's.
