So when I saw that they had…read moreHarvey's in Union Market, I figured I had to check out to continue my search for best Philly Cheesesteak outside of Philly (Angelo's, Uncle Gus, and John's being my top 3 in Philly). Let me start with the cheesesteak. I am a firm believer that an amazing cheesesteak has to nail the 3 components: 1) quality meat, 2) gooiness of the cheese, 3) freshness of the roll. Harvey's nailed the meat. The gooiness of the cheese was inconsistent but I do like their take on their own wiz. The roll was eh. Also, the onions were just thrown into the meat instead of being car elided on the flat grill. I think what really took my by surprised was the staff. The cook seemed to be on break eating while I waited for my order. Now it was a little dead in Union Market. I showed up around 5ish on a Friday night. But I was a little caught off guard when watching the staff during the making of my sandwich. Just expected a higher standard. If I lived in the area, I love the availability of getting fresh quality cuts of meat as they have available for your viewing pleasure. Their menu of sandwiches available here still look great. But now that I've tried their cheesesteak, I don't feel the need to stop for it again.

I have been a customer of Bullock's, kind of on and off, for years. Every time I think that I can…read morecommoditize meat purchases and might find better value elsewhere, I miss something special that again has me coming back here. A recent example entails bone-in chicken breasts for grilling. Grocery store packages provide breasts that are too big; too many calories are consumed and/or some is wasted. Bullock's are more portion-sized appropriate and always are fresh. So stocking up a bit for summer, I recently stopped in and asked for 10 breasts, separated into five pairs, as we are only two people. The helpful clerk asked whether my plan was freezing. When I told her it was, she said "let me wrap them in freezer paper for you, labeled. Without an upcharge. And without asking. You don't find this measure of intuitive customer service in many places nowadays. Maybe sometimes greater economy can be found someplace, but never greater overall value, when freshness, quality and customer service also are considered.
