Hemps is the best place for any kind of beef. I get all my steaks and hamburger when I'm entertaining. Everyone raves about the quality of the food, even the burgers are noticeably great. Prices are very similar to the grocery store and much better taste and quality. The vibe at Hemps is great too. They all have fun while offering great customer service and recommendations. This place is amazing!!! We have been coming here for 20 years and have never had a bad experience. The meat has always been top notch and the staff is so helpful and friendly even though they are usually very busy. I ordered a prime rib to smoke for Christmas dinner and set the date to pick it up and discussed how many pounds I needed for the amount of people we are having. I got there when they opened and there was already a line around the corner. No fear, they have so many people there I was in and out in 20 minutes. Told them we added two more people on and he recommended how much and cut it. I asked him to slice off the bone and butcher twine it back together. They had told me there was $5 charge when I preordered on the phone and I told him that was fine. When I told the guy today that I was smoking it and would cut off the twine, season the part where the bone was and twine back together, he told me he would net it after cutting the bone off and didn't charged me. This is choice meat but it is as close to prime as can be and their price was cheaper than other butchers I checked with. read more

I've visited Hemp's Meat before and it's generally not a bad place, but my experience today was very disappointing. I purchased a full lamb and asked for it to be cut into small pieces. I was charged $25 just for cutting, which I accepted. However, the issue came with the weight. I was initially told the lamb weighed 38 pounds. When I questioned it and asked them to weigh it again, the number changed to 36 pounds. What made the situation worse was that I was not allowed to enter the room where the scale is located, so I couldn't verify the measurement myself. This raised serious concerns. When I got home and weighed the meat myself, it came out to only 32.6 pounds -- a significant difference. And now I do not even the price per pound which is , $8.95. I did not expect this kind of experience. Transparency and honesty should be basic, especially when customers are paying based on weight. This experience has unfortunately affected my trust. read more

I live in Maryland and went there for the first time 11/10/25. Bought kielbasa and chorizo sausage. The man grabbed my three links with bare hands then we walked over to the cash register and I paid cash and he gave me my change. Never used food gloves or even protective wrap to pick up my sausage. Never washed his hands before or after accepting cash. Furthermore I noticed that nobody in there wears food gloves even the guys behind the window cutting meat. The place has great reviews but their hygiene practices are very questionable. I'm going to cut the skin off the sausage prior to cooking. My review is NEUTRAL. read more

This place has been around as long as I have been alive, and my parents have been patrons ever since then. Super fresh and local meats (hell the cow pasture out back should be indication of that) They will even butcher/slaughter your livestock for you ( sorry non meat eaters)..for a fee of course. This is just a taste of home I always stop in at when visiting my mom now who lives in Jefferson. You can also get sides and quarters of beef if you have allot of freezer room. We were there to buy 8 filet mignon steaks. I watched him (butcher) cut them. I specifically asked if he gave me any of the tail. He said no and said, while pointing, look they are there on the table. Keep in mind, these are $32 per pound. Well, we got 7 steaks, not 8 and there was plenty of garbage in that bag. 4 useful steaks. I guess we went there because my wife was born and raised in Frederick and her great grandmother (May Barnes) had lived in Jeff in the early 1900's. So lucky to have this place close to home! They have local and grass-fed meat. They have almost any type of meat you would be looking for. Fast service and always pleasant. Love that they take call ahead orders and have it ready for you to pick up! They also carry a number of McCutchen's products and dairy products which makes "one stop shopping" easier since Brunswick doesn't have a grocery store anymore. You can get a cut of pretty much anything that is offered from a pig or a cow. They also have a few fridges and freezers stocked with frozen meats such as wings. Friend told me about hemps meats and they have fresh beef ribs. Called up friday at 10:13am April 26th asked if they have them. Was greeted by somone who said yes we have them all the time 5.95 a lb. No mention of placing an order. Said OK see you saturday morning. Drive an hour to get to this place and they cant find any ribs. They find some frozen ones eventually. Not happy. Yall should have cut some fresh ones. Ill just save the drive and order through my local butcher. They did lower the price of the frozen ones to 3 a lb but I didnt drive an hour for frozen ones. read more

Love this place. I drive 40 minutes each way just to go hear. They will cut whatever you need. I go in, ask for certain thickness on rib eyes, get some sausage and out the door. I will keep coming back before ever buying any store bought crap unless I don't have time to drive up. read more
