Crab dip was a big portion, tasty & good/soft/warm bread. May not look like such a big portion from the pic but we needed to order extra bread to finish off the dip. The Buffalo chicken cheese steak was tasty, the ranch smeared on the bread eased the spiciness. It was extremely filling. The fries were thin and good. Crab cake was good as well. First of all the food and drinks were spectacular(hats off to the cook/cooks). Started with mozzarella sticks; Homemade, big and cheesy with some great marinara. For the entree the steak and cake and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. For my sides I had brussel sprouts that were cooked in a delicious sauce and some creamy buttery fresh made mashed potatoes.I drank the Newtopia which was very balanced and refreshing especially good for the price. Very nice dive bar vibes. Service was about a 7/10 for two reasons alone or it would be a 9/10. It was during the annual parade so it was slam packed, there was someone's child just screaming and running all around the place, standing in chairs even hitting their own mother. It was disturbing the peace very much so and you could see it on all the tables around faces and it was just ignored over and over by each waitress. Please next time put your foot down and speak with stuff like this it absolutely ruined the atmosphere for two whole hours. Second reason taking the rating down one more was for the fact that it wasn't made clear there was a gratuity of 18% already added to our check very upsetting when you find out looking at your copy after you sign and sent a second tip in cash with the waitress. Of course this is partially my fault but it would be very considerate to highlight or point out the fact especially when a customer is spending 100$+ in the establishment. Other than that we waitress was very kind but something could use a little polishing to gain more returning customers. Stopped in for a snack and drink around 1pm on a Saturday. We initially thought this was a Gordon Ramsay's Hells Kitchen but found out upon entry it was not. None the less we decided to support the business. We sat at the bar and they had about six, don't quote me on the number, but it was around six tap beers. The menu featured bottles as well. They do have a full bar. The food menu featured dinner and lunch along with appetizers. We had the southwest egg rolls and they were ok. Nothing that stood out by ok. We had a mixed drink and a beer as well. The thing that caught us off guard is the staff. It seemed as though there was more staff than customers. They were waiting on each other more than the few patrons in the establishment. They also were arguing and complaining very loudly, at one point, shouting amongst themselves. The walls had food stains and drink stains all behind the bar. This establishment seems to be run by a group of friends and felt like someone's basement bar but selling to the public. read more

The interior is dimly lit and the bathroom smelled like sewage. The crab dip was pretty good. I added jalapeños on the side to make it more spicy for me. The bread it came with was super soft, not toasted, but still good. I had a cobb salad, which was only cobb because it had eggs on it, not really a traditional cobb salad in my opinion, but wasn't a bad salad either. Just standard. If I could leave 0 stars I would. My wife and I wanted to try a new restaurant and we landed on this one unfortunately. We walked in and were surprised by the environment. It's dim, loud, and somewhat dirty. The bathrooms smelt like cigarettes and it just didn't feel clean. My wife got the steak sandwich and let's just say it was awful.. do not GET the steak sandwich. They just throw a small, cheap steak between a hamburger bun with some lettuce and onion. It doesn't even come with a sauce or anything. I pass Hell's Kitchen all the time but it was never on my radar to try until recently after I was with some friends and we wanted to grab some dinner after Harborfest. This place has a really divey and laid back vibe, which is why I never believed the food here would tickle my fancy, but dining here was a reminder for me to not judge a book by its cover. I got a grilled buffalo shrimp wrap with a side of asparagus, and it really hit the spot. I have never had shrimp seasoned so well in my life before and the spicy ranch inside really set it off. The asparagus was prepared just right too, not too crunchy, yet not too soft either. Overall, I was very pleased with my meal. Hell's Kitchen will now be a consideration for me when I have a hankering for some grub while I'm hanging around in Downtown Norfolk. read more

We only added an hour to our parking so the walk over and back, along with their tardiness, gave us lImited time to enjoy the set. The music is sort of loud. We sat at the bar, farthest away from the door and band. We ordered the southwest egg rolls and enjoyed them. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. The water tasted like something else from the spout and had a lemon, which had I been asked, I would've declined. We didn't order drinks because we had our fill at Gershwin's. Stopped by for a "quick" lunch break while in the area. Low lighting inside and actually not a lot of seating. Bar and booths off to the right. Upon waking in we weren't greeted or anything so it was unsure if we had to wait or self-seat. After about 5 minutes a waitress came over to us. We decided on the bar for quicker service but had to wait a few minutes for people to get up. Once we sat down, it took a little while for the waitress to get to us, but we put in our orders immediately since we were on a time crunch. There's a part in the menu that says "asks about our spiked slushees" and that really excited me! But I asked and they said they don't have them during the winter hours. If they're not changing their menus seasonally, it would be nice if they had a little asterisk stating that so dreams won't be shattered. The wait for the food seemed a bit long, but the entire restaurant was full. Finally my seafood nachos ($14) arrived were piled high. It was pretty good, but I wish there was more seafood and a little less cheese. Once I got through the top layer of my nachos there wasn't much else to eat aside from cheese and soggy chips. Next time I would definitely ask for less cheese and more lettuce! Though, I left full and glad I tried it. Hopefully I'll be able to try their spiked slushees (and that they're worth the wait). Hell's Kitchen is a great place to grab a bite while you're exploring downtown Norfolk. It has a laid back, sort of dark vibe (literally), with good food and even better drinks. And the TVs play memes! During our most recent visit we started with a plate of nachos which was enough for the whole table (4 people). I got the buffalo chicken wrap and my husband got the buffalo shrimp wrap (go figure). We both opted for the Hell sauce and it was the perfect amount of spicy-- and definitely left me on a buffalo chicken kick! The portions are pretty big and made a great lunch the following day. Their wide cut fries are a nice change of pace, and I love how big the drink menu is! We've been to Hell's Kitchen a few times now and have never had bad service. My babe and I decided to dine here on NYE... no reservations were necessary before 8pm and the location is within walking distance from where we stayed that night. We visited about 4pm to secure a seat for the evening and the young man advised it would be no problem. However, he made us aware of a performance (live band) taking place about 8pm. Well with that said, we set a reservation just in case for 7pm. The restaurant is small inside. I was quite surprised at the small area once I opened the door. In my mind, I thought, a band will be performing where... It's quite smoky inside. I am unsure if smoking is allowed in the restaurant or if this is a result of the kitchen. Nevertheless, if you do not want to smell like smoke you may want to think twice about visiting. The smoke wasn't a bother at all on NYE... We sat at a four seat table and the service was efficient throughout the night. We ordered an appetizer... it was just ok. My meal, I order a chicken wrap... it was just ok. I'm thinking I didn't order anything exciting, because the food was just blah. The vibe and atmosphere was dope though. Not sure if I will return, but you give it a try and see for yourself. This place is a bit of a dive. Great drinks average food. Definitely ideal place to grab some food when you've been drinking. Had the Buffalo chicken pizza, order of wings half with hell sauce and half with lemon pepper sauce, and the steak quesadilla ( uncharged to sub out chicken). The pizza was average on thin crust. Wings were cooked great but only sauced enough to coat the wings. The steak in the quesadilla was very tender but the amount of bell peppers in it took away from the small amount of meat. Lastly I was disappointed in the drink I ordered Tru&skrew which is the skrewball pb whiskey and wild berry truly seltzer. The description on the menu didn't mention it was a seltzer. I would've never ordered it. If you're into seltzer you would enjoy it. read more

HK on Gramby St is a good spot for reliably good food, cocktails, and beer. The service is typically quick and friendly and happy to accommodate. I've been here 4 or 5 times this year and have never walked away disappointed. The the overall vibe is cool and eclectic, but if you're expecting it to be anything like HK on the Bay you're not going to get that. They're definitely two different places. HK on Gramby is very much a downtown restaurant catering to a more urban crowd (vice the beach crowd at HK on the Bay). The burgers are fat and juicy and served with fries that are thinly slide mini potatoes. Good all around. The salads are fresh and delicious and the appetizers usually include something out of the norm that's worth checking out. The only issue I've ever experienced has been overly loud background music that can drown out conversation in the echoey space. But that's not a huge deal for most. My friend and I came in for lunch. My suggestion is to come in early...we arrived around 11:30 and there was only one other table occupied. By the time we wrapped up an hour later- the entire restaurant was PACKED! I come to Hell's Kitchen just for their seafood nachos. Nacho's piled high topped with she crab soup, backfin crab meat and shrimp...unfortunately this time around I didn't quite enjoy them. Not sure if they have different cooks, but the tortilla chips tasted a bit stale with the edges burnt around. I didn't notice the she-crab soup either because the nachos were dry with a thick layer of melted cheese. Our servers were very prompt and friendly. I was not a fan of the broccoli with it. haha I am just not used to hummus being served with cooked broccoli. I preferred the bread. My bf used the peppers. Ordered the Nashville hot pizza and got something else - they replaced it once I figured it out, and it was ok. Wife's burger was ordered medium rare and was mostly rare. Friend's cheesesteak was good. His wife ordered nachos. They were very late - like everyone else was done eating by the time they came. Hardly any cheese, they over cooked the chips so they were bordering on the burnt side, and the meat (beef) tasted like it was out of a bag mix - terrible. Not worth the wait. Let's start with the way I ended up here-I'm staying at the Marriott and all the lunch places on Main St that I found closed at 3p. So I asked the concierge and he said-Hell's Kitchen has damn good food and is open all day! Woohoo! I was starving and it was 3:05p. They are only a 3 min walk from the Marriott and a 30 sec walk from the Hilton Main, yet are tucked away and I coulda missed them! I'm SO glad I didn't!! They are a little bar with a small kitchen and everything about them is cool and brings out your independent side. Maybe it's the super nice bartender with wildly colored hair that is just beautiful, or the tv with hilarious gifs and Someecards that are sometimes raunchy, but you can't help but laugh, or the music...I don't know-you just feel kind of free to do or say whatever you want in here and no one would care but they would support you in it! It's just their vibe! There is an extensive craft beer list and specials for drinks and/or food every day that are posted in the chalkboard hanging above the open kitchen. A full bar is available, and I was told they're known for their buffalo chicken sandwich and they have some really great looking burgers! Whenever I'm in Norfolk, my go-to spot is Hell's Kitchen. A nice little dive bar with cheap drinks and cheap eats like this $10 sub and fries. I got the hell sauce which isn't that spicy in my opinion, but gives the perfect amount of kick. I actually asked for extra hot sauce! The melted cheese and shredded chicken work so well together because if there's one thing I can't stand, it's a dry sandwich. As Yoda would probably say, dry this sandwich is not. Also, I love the thick cut fries/wedges they serve their sandwiches with. I washed all this down with a few cheap PBRs, but they have plenty of other beers on tap. OK, folks, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dive bar, but the world now creates "dive bar asthetics" - with places attempting to be divey.. but not actually anything special. This place is on MF-ing point. The crowd here; usually local service workers getting a drink afterwork. The folks that work here, friendly fast, and very - real.
