We got to downtown Norfolk at 6:15pm for a 7pm Josh Johnson show. I decided to park in the MacArthur garage which was less than a 10 minute walk from Chrysler Hall. I thought we were really running late and were going to l be rushing to get in before doors closed but we got in with 20 minutes to spare. Getting through security was a breeze. Allied Universal did a great job getting people through efficiently. I had a clear bag so they didn't even have to search through it. The staff was very friendly and helpful from the security at the door to the usher who helped us find our seat. We purchased our ticket on Ticketmaster and they were super easy to quickly pull up and scan using the Apple Wallet feature. The show was fantastic and Josh Johnson was hilarious. I do recommend that if you want to buy merch or have to use the bathroom you do so before the show ends because it's quite chaotic with everyone trying to leave at the same time. The location of the men's bathroom on the second floor goes against the flow of the crowd of you're on the first floor like we were. All in all though I highly recommend this venue and would not hesitate to see a show here again. read more

The service is great and location is great!!! However the seating within the venue is rather small for a larger person. Most people fit confortable but if it a person is tall and/or large they may not be comfortable. They lots of options for food and drinks and the prices are what is expected for a place like this at least $5 for water. read more

I enjoy seeing shows here. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad either. We had very good seats but you can see no matter where you sit. The staff is friendly and helpful. They even have a place for people to take photos....little photo op situation. My biggest complain is the highway robbery they are charging for drinks!!!!!!! It's absolutely ridiculous. And they are cashless!!! I paid $5 for a bottle of water which was easier to stomach then the price of alcohol and food. read more

Whilel in the center of Norfolk, there's plenty of parking options available at all the parking garages. We were able to park right across the street and walk on over right as the doors were about to open for our Sunday, 1 pm show, We were in rather quickly and through the security monitoring where we were able to then snag some snacks and drinks before we headed to our seats. We sat in the dress circle in row A and let me just say that was a great choice. With our seven-year-old along, it can be difficult to keep her still so this seat choice allowed us a little bit of space in a spot to lean and helped her stay engaged in watching the whole production. The only complaints that I have, is that when it is a full house, there aren't nearly enough bathrooms available for the short intermission. And of course, snacks and drinks are probably the same although, to be honest, I didn't stand in line for those so I can't say for certain, just from what I saw heading to the restroom. That being said, our seating is fab and we had a great view, even from up high! read more

I was here last night to see Pretty Woman. Upon entering my bag had a quick run through and I went through a metal detector. No issues there. The staff were so kind. I was about 10 minutes late and was helped to my seat. That was very helpful I was on time until I hit the parking garage. There were a few other events that night so parking was rough. Be sure to leave a good amount of time to navigate parking and lines. The garage was easy to navigate. Once seated all went well. The seats are a good size, especially for being in close quarters with others. I am plus size and was a little worried about that. My ticket was $100 for a seat in row J towards the center. The seats are all one row. So if you need to get up you will have to cross over many people. That is the set up they have. It is all one long row. In the end I personally had no problem with comfort. The play was really good. There was a nice intermission. Some people got up others stay seated. The theater was also very clean. Overall do I wish the seats were different, of course. But, I really had no problems. Plus, that is just how their set up is. read more

I came to Chrysler Hall expecting elegance and grace. I left wondering if I should start a mosh pit in a tutu. Let's talk about this Black Sabbath Ballet. Whoever decided to blend pirouettes with power chords is either a mad genius or was dared by Satan himself--and I am HERE FOR IT. One moment, dancers are gliding across the stage like swans; the next, Ozzy's voice kicks in and it's full-on Swan Lake meets Headbangers Ball. I half-expected someone to stage-dive into the orchestra pit. Chrysler Hall was the perfect venue for this glorious chaos. The acoustics were incredible--I could hear every delicate toe tap and every soul-rattling riff. Seats were comfy enough that I didn't even notice my legs had fallen asleep from sitting in complete awe for 90 minutes. Also, big shoutout to the staff for being warm, welcoming, and not flinching when I asked, "Is this ballet BYOB (Bring Your Own Black leather)?" Would I go again? Absolutely. Would I drag my unsuspecting in-laws next time? Without hesitation. 10/10 - would slow clap in dramatic lighting again. read more

Another one for the books. What a great musical. We enjoyed every second of it. The Genie definitely stole the show but that's not to say that everyone else wasn't amazing. He had a way of making you feel like you were part of what was going on. I truly appreciate how organized and professional this venue operates. There is someone available to help you every step of the way from the moment they check you in. I also appreciate them having sufficient staff to help during intermission so that you can get back to your seat in a timely manner. If you get the chance to see Aladdin take it. I visit Chrysler Hall every few months it seems for their Broadway in Norfolk series. They host popular musicals and plays on tour. I have truly become a fan of the theater and this venue because of the ease of going through security and finding my seat. The security process is quick and the staff is friendly yet efficient so they don't hold up the line. Plan to arrive early if you want light refreshments/snacks or if you want to see what the gift shop is selling. Usually for musicals/plays there will be promotional merch for sale. Of course the bathroom line is always an issue at these types of events, the women's line in particular. There are a few on each floor but it never seems like enough because everyone wants to go at the same time. They do keep them pretty clean I've noticed when I do go. Parking garages are a short walk away and typically charge around $5. Make sure you contact the venue ahead of time to inquire about and special requests/handicap accessible seats/entrances to make your visit go more smooth. read more

Upon arriving at Chrysler Hall to see Hamilton, I was pleasantly surprised to see a parking garage right across the street since I was unsure exactly where the parking was located. The parking garage charged $10 (event cost) so I gladly paid and found a parking space. The first thing I noticed when I entered the Hall was the beautiful chandeliers and art sculptures! The venue was very clean and had coffee, beverage and snack stations in certain areas for purchase. I loved all the seating in the foyer as well, that comes in handy when you are waiting for a show to start. Thankfully, there were many ushers walking around helping guide people to their seats so I was able to be quickly get to my seat with a little assistance. The ushers were very friendly. The seats were pretty comfortable and the area where I was seated gave me a nice view of the stage! Hamilton was a PHENOMENAL show that I hope others get to experience as well and I'm so glad Chrysler Hall was able to bring this wonderful play to the Hampton Roads. read more

I'm a huge fan of the comedian Kountry Wayne. So when my husband surprised me for Mother's Day with VIP meet and great tickets I was ecstatic. Originally I'd made plans to attend with family bit gave my extra ticker to my bestie. I'm going to be truthful I say KW about 5 years ago at the Funny Bone and it was cramped like a can of sardines. This time around I'm so happy he was at the Chrysler hall. The Chrysler is definitely bigger than the Funny Bone and I feel the spacing, parking, overall flow of functionality just works for bigger name individuals. Now I do feel the orchestra center stage floor VIP seating could have been done a tad better in my opinion. I enjoyed the show and the viewing advantage point, just would like the chairs to be a tad bit more spaced apart so I don't feel my cheeks tooking a strangers leg please. Parking was a quick walk across the street....not a fan of Norfolks parking fees for events but got to bite the bullet. Clean bathrooms also are a mist for me and theirs were clean so thank you Chrysler that goes a long ways in my book. read more

Tonight we went to Chrysler Hall to see the Broadway Show SIX. We paid a good deal of money for tickets that provided very little room. In other words, we felt like we were packed in like sardines. To add insult to injury, we were seated next to a couple of people who were rather large. I think that it's well past time for this place to get a serious makeover. The show was good but it was difficult to enjoy it due to the fact that we were uncomfortable with the seating arrangements. Do better! read more

And I thought balcony seating would be the nosebleed section but am happily mistaken especially if you get rows A thru C. Still very good views of the stage, might even be better than orchestra seats that are so close to the stage. With plays/musicals with big sets and lighting, it's better to get a birds eye view so you don't miss any movement. Watched Cats tonight and the show was great! I actually enjoyed this better than when I saw it on Broadway decades ago. The staff at Chrysler Hall were accommodating, letting me wait to the side for my friend to arrive with our mobile tickets. Security was slight, didn't enforce checking bags nor walking through security scanners-must be when they were rushing to get people seated. The venue was small but intimate, acoustics and sound system was great. Carpeting is a little dated. read more

Epic fail!, Chrysler. I have lived here more than 30 years. I have attended concerts, ballets, recitals, and some iconic plays right here at this very venue. I saw Aida on this stage; I saw Hamilton here; I saw Lion King and Phantom of the Opera...and every single time I arrive, the routine to enter is the same--come early, enter, grab a drink and casually make it to our seats. Today, it's the NEW JACK CITY play. Black cast and crew, tailored to a predominantly black audience, and now there is a SECURITY check with a metal detector scanner and purse check! I arrived early and spent more than 42 minutes in line waited to be treated like this. If you don't need security this stringent for HAMILTON Or LION KING or CATS--and the tickets cost the same price--why do you need it for this event? If a person can afford these tickets for this show, trust me, they didn't come with ill intent that you need to have such a rigorous security check! This is ridiculous; this is wrong; this is DEMEANING!! read more

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to really consider going to another event at this venue. Good to know- the bathrooms on the balcony level were split - men stage right, women stage left. The show we went to was sold out, and there was no AC on. There was a 5-10min interruption during the stand-up show because the speaker system malfunctioned. The comedian had to change mics during the show because the mic kept crackling. Exiting the venue was a nightmare. There was a line from the ground level wrapping up the stairs all the way to the balcony because there was zero crowd control as people were getting their phones taken out of the Yondr cases. It felt incredibly unsafe. People eventually started just leaving out of the emergency exits then re-entering the building to get their phone pouch unlocked. Crowd management was nonexistent at the pouch unlock spots - just lots of drunk, loud people shoving their way towards the Yondr station. If this is how Chrysler Hall handles their crowds, I never want to go back. Standing in the middle of wrap around stairs 3 levels up unable to go forwards or backwards felt extremely unsafe. read more

It's the first time I can ever recall being in the Chrysler and for its age I found it impressive. Most likely built in the mid 70's around the time of the nearby Scope. The design is kinda Kennedy Center boxy. The parking garage is conveniently located under the venue. Parking is not free. They get big off Broadway shows, however the runs are typically shorter than say Richmond. The demand for tickets was high for my show. My wife, daughter and I saw the performance of Wicked. Tickets were obtained from Ticket Master. My family sat in the Orchestra which was excellent. Seating was comfortable, sound was good, but the stage seemed small. Refreshments were ready at intermission and the popcorn tasty. The overall corridors and theater clean and well maintained. I would return, however I would park smarter. If your in the basement your a bit screwed and it takes forever to get out. So try and avoid. But if you must park by the elevators side ramp. You will be first out. 3.5 seems a perfect fit, but will round up. read more

Before I begin, let me begin by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone! So with that being said let's begin. My wife and I arrived approximately 7:20 pm for the 8:00 pm comedy show. Starring Chris Tucker! We stood in line and was greeted by an employee who verified our ticket purchases. As we got to the front entrance there was a table where everyone entering the building had to put their smartphones and smart watches in lock up pouches to prevent recording of the event!. We walked in the entrance and walked upstairs as we waited for the ushers to allow us to go to our assigned seats. There was popcorn, candy as well as bottled water, beer and alcoholic beverages for purchase. There wasn't any food ( hot or cold ) for purchase, so if you arrived hungry looking for food ti purchase you were disappointed! The show started off with a stand up comedy skit from a comedian from Atlanta, ( I'm sorry I can't recall his name at this time ). After he finished he introduced Chris Tucker who received a huge standing ovation from the audience!. The comedy show was funny and very very entertaining, I would definitely recommend coming here for any event. Unfortunately I took off two stars, here's why : 1. There wasn't anything on the website stating everyone had to lock up their devices before entry, otherwise I would've left my stuff in the vehicle as opposed of carrying around two pouches for no reason! 2. There wasn't and options to purchase any food! Overall this didn't put a damper on the evening, and I will definitely return for another event some time in the future. Remember I couldn't take any photos of the venue because my phone was locked away in carry pouches. read more

We visited Chrysler Hall to check out a Broadway in Norfolk show (Come Far Away). Overall, we had a very nice time. The Hall had ample and comfortable seating. The stage, sound system, and lights were great. The ushers and bartenders were very friendly and helpful. The only small annoyance were the drink prices. We ordered two double alcoholic beverages and the total was around $75. I told the bartender that the price had to be incorrect, she doubled checked, and I was right. The price was around $62 bucks. I get get that prices for food and beverages are on the higher end at performance venues. But, that price was a bit insane especially for this area. Shoot, those are prices are similar to the prices on REAL Broadway in NYC. In terms of seeing Broadway shows, this is the only spot in town (unless I want to drive to Richmond), so I'll more than likey return. However, I'll be sure to have a glass of wine or two before coming Chrysler Hall. read more

Very bad design. People kept crossing over you because of the long seated rows. One guy spilt his liquor all over a women he was trying to get pass. The desire to pack as many people into one building for ultimate revenue makes this design awful. The bathrooms are on opposite sides of the theater men on one side and females on the other side. That is another awful design of this theater. The concession stand is in the center of the cross over so you have to excuse yourself through eight lines of people trying to get from one side to the other. And then there was the long wait for a drink, candy or popcorn all of which was $5 dollars each and they only accept credit cards. It is my opinion that someone desperately need to redesign this whole theater. You will go through security before you enter the building. We attended the Shen Yun event, beautifully choreographed Chinese Ballet. Every seat seems to have excellent view for any performance. There is not anyone one paying attention to details for this beautiful venue. Attending a performance on 9/3/25, I noticed the following: There is fountain system and reflection pond outside. The fountains did not work, and the pond was full of trash. There are about a dozen flag poles at the entrance, but only three had flags flying. Inside, the ceiling has several burned out lights. There were also "show lights" that were not functioning. The sound from the performers was also a struggle. Such a shame and a distraction. Hopefully, someone will read this review and address these concerns and spend a bit more time on quality control. read more

What a familiar place is Chrysler Hall. I have seen so many theatrical productions there throughout the decades. I have watched my adult son perform, as a child, in the children's choir of the road tour of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. A dear, long deceased friend of mine and I were the children's chaperones. What fun that was! The acquaintance that developed during that show with the ticket manager of Broadway at Chrysler Hall led to my long being a season ticket holder. My subscription continued until the management company changed. It is a large house for Hampton Roads. But the only seats I ever choose are on the floor, orchestra level. I can never recommend mezzanine. You want to be able to see and understand the lyrics and dialogue. Technology has changed the ticketing process. No longer is a paper ticket required. For my recent awesome experience seeing Hamilton, my ticket was digital and still resides in my Apple Wallet. Parking can be at any of the city lots downtown. But the designated Chrysler Hall parking is underground. Enter at the theater from St. Paul's and be protected from the elements. An elevator will take you directly from the parking garage to the theater lobby. You can also take stairs to the plaza area between Scope and Chrysler Hall. But this route is not protected from rain. Oh..... did I tell you that I previously saw Hamilton on Broadway. My experience at Chrysler Hall was much better!! At Chrysler Hall I had great seats, stage right side row GG. I could see the expressions on their faces. I understood every word because the acoustics were better in the orchestra level seats. So Broadway is great, but not always better. I have seen a plethora of shows on Broadway, Off-Broadway, the Fox in Atlanta, Atlanta Civic Center, Kennedy Center, National Theater, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Harrison Opera House, Ford Theater, Sandler Center, Wells Theater, and many more. A good seat at Chrysler Hall provides the view and acoustics while maybe not the ambiance. And its like an old familiar friend, a happy place with many memories. read more

I will say, they should add more bathroom stalls because during intermission, the lines are extremely long and some people don't make it back in time. Cleanliness is up to par. The employees are extremely helpful with finding seats in the dark. Overall, it was nice being back here and I would definitely watch another show here. read more

I want to love Chrysler Hall. I've been a Broadway in Norfolk subscriber for two (maybe three) years. Before I was a subscriber I saw countless other shows here, including Robin Williams during his last tour. I am so thankful for Chrysler Hall, because of the entertainment opportunity it brings Coastal Virginia. It gets a lot of the biggest acts, including Hamilton, coming late 2019. I think that the subscription package is an awesome way to see the shows. They also offer "Stage Left" receptions, for a price, before some of the shows. It feels very "VIP" enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres before the show. It isn't something I have done in awhile, but if you're looking to make the evening a little more special, I'd recommend it! Since this is still a smaller large venue, sorry for the oxymoron, there isn't really an awful seat in the house. Of course the cheap seats in the back and on the highest balcony won't give you the same experience as something closer, but really they aren't bad seats. Parking is easy to find with a few nearby garages, but you will want to check if there is also an event happening at the SCOPE Arena the night of your show at Chrysler Hall. This will make parking a little more expensive and also a little more limited since they share the same plaza. Parking is usually about $5-10 and some of the closest garages are cash only. So these are all great things and clearly I have given them thousands of dollars over the years....why not a higher rating? The venue desperately needs a renovation. The floors are kind of gross, the seats appear dirty and feel a little uncomfortable. This is probably bad to admit, but I stopped dressing up for the shows like I used to. The condition of the venue just makes me feel like "why bother?" I'm not saying I'm showing up in sweats and tennis shoes by any means, but I've stopped pulling out my nicer dresses and a pair of heels. I really hope they are planning to show this great venue some love soon so we can continue to attract great performances to Norfolk. read more

I've been here a few times over several years for a variety of events. Most recently, Hamilton. The location of Chrysler Hall is super. The parking garages around the venue had event parking for $5. Close and convenient. We arrived early enough to get a drink beforehand at a local bar. There are plenty of establishments in walking distance to grab a dinner or cocktail before your show. If you are planning on having dinner be sure to make reservations. Although the Chrysler could use some polishing, I didn't find too much to complain about. The venue staff was very friendly. They were fast at getting everyone moved along and in the building without waiting out in the cold. Once inside, the concession line moved at a quick pace as well. The prices were actually not shockingly outrageous. I ordered a large wine which came in a commemorative tumbler for $15. It was definitely large and although not a high end red wine, it did the trick. The ushers were friendly and seemed helpful to those who needed assistance locating their seat. We sat in the orchestra seating and the view was great. I found there was plenty of leg room, too. There was also plenty of walking room between the seats for people to move by you to get to their seat without causing a huge disruption to everyone already seated. I didn't use the restroom while there, but my husband commented that the line looked long at intermission and that they could use more stalls/locations. Enjoy your show! read more

Chrysler Hall was just an OK venue. I saw reviewers raving about being long time attendees and loving the Hall. It's definitely outdated and nothing about it "poos" like other venues available in the nation. The seats are on the older end and the balcony is so very dangerous for older folks and those with mobility issues! Take note...the balcony may be cheaper but whoever you are with may find it very difficult to maneuver to his or her seat. It was not the best stair climbing for pregnant women either. Yes, the folks were nice and we enjoyed the performance, but this wasn't a phenomenal venue at the end of the day. read more

I'm not sure how this is going to come across, but I will preface this review with the statement that this is not the first time I've been to see a live performance of Les Misérables nor is it my first foray into the performing arts, live. This is not a review of Les Misérables, simply my impression of Chrysler Hall. Maybe they don't control the ambiance in the hall, but they really should. In my opinion, this is amateur hour. We sat in row W Orchestra which means we were in the back on the ground floor. You wouldn't expect there to be a man at a mixing/sound/video station in the back of the seating area, like at a concert, but there he was, with his computer monitors screwing up the darkness that creates an intimacy between performer and audience. My friend and I came here to watch Shen Yun and the show was so good! We were on the 3rd floor and near the edge of the balcony, but even if we weren't, the stadium seating was great. I'm not sure if this is how it is for all shows, but during Shen Yun we weren't allowed to bring our beverages inside. You can tell it's a little but outdated inside and probably could use an update. The chairs weren't that comfortable. Something about the layout on the first floor just makes it seem so cramped, so hanging out on the 2nd and 3rd floors was a bit nicer. I think it may be time for a makeover for this place, but none of that affected how much I enjoyed the show. read more

There is a parking garage right across the street and typically on the weekends it's free once it gets later into the evening. The venue is nice and I honestly feel like there's a vantage to all the different seating areas. There's no true "bad spot", at least the times that I have gone. The employees were great with making sure no one came in during the play and pointing us to the right direction. I've been to Chrysler a few times over the seven years I've now lived in Hampton roads most notably was Wicked off-broadway in 2009 for my birthday that year and recently this past weekend to see Kevin James. Parking isn't horrible though it can get a bit stressful navigating the area and trying to find parking in one of the local lots (underneath is a shared lot for both The Scope and Chrysler Hall) either at Chrysler or just down the street at MacArthur Center seems to be where most people park when coming here. The inside is fairly nice but the floors are somewhat slippery as noted before - I don't know that anything can be done about that though since they look marble but I'm not an expert in those things so who am I to judge? The lovely glass chandeliers upstairs are very pretty but the actual inside of this venue is somewhat shabby and in need of updating. It's not terrible - but it's obvious that it's been a few decades probably (at least the 90s) since any major renovations have taken place. On a good note, there is PLENTY of space between the rows of seats which is important for me because as Americans tend to get fatter they tend to kick the back of my seat more everywhere I go because they can't fit their legs back there and apparently have to constantly fidget and move their legs around due to low blood circulation from obesity-related diabetes (sorry, I digress, but it's really irritating to me) so that is a plus because I get an eye twitch whenever a morbidly obese person sits behind me and kicks my chair all night which happens about every other time I go somewhere since over half of America is morbidly obese. Another irritating thing is that when it comes time to go into the seating area they only open one door and funnel everyone in that way when there are like 20 doors to get inside. I understand they want to maintain some order but it was ridiculous and they could've easily perhaps opened 3-4 doors with 3 or so in between to allow everyone to get through to their seats more quickly. Maybe they've tried that in the past and it didn't work because people got caught up in the aisles going different directions? Ah well, I had a good time and it's not terrible... just in need of a little updating. read more

Chrysler Hall - Performing Arts Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

I've been to a few concerts and shows at Chrysler Hall. There really isn't many "bad" seats. You will have a good view of the stage, no matter where you sit. It really comes down to if you prefer seating in particular area. If you're tall or have longer legs, some seats might be a little tight. The staff are helpful and nice. The concession stand can be a little pricey, but that's excepted at any venue. The menu is very limited in snack and drink selection. During intermission, the restrooms can get crowded for both men and women. The location is easy to find, and access. There isn't a dedicated parking lot. There is a parking lot across the street that opens for paid parking. There are always city police officers posted at the pedestrian crosswalk to ensure safe crossing. Also, there are parking garages located near the venue. There is very limited free street parking close by. I enjoy attending shows that are hosted by Chrysler Hall, and will continue in the future. read more

This review is solely based on my most recent visit to Chrysler Hall which was last night for the Peppa Pig show. I attended the show with my mother and my daughter and we loved every moment of the show. Parking was a breeze... walking up to the elevator, but prior to getting on the elevator, there was security present to check our bags as well as wand us to make sure we didn't have any restricted weapons or anything else on before we entered the elevator. They may have been attendants working for the venue and not security. But anyway...we got on the elevator and there was an usher present waiting to make sure we reached the right floor... (I guess) to our surprise we actually knew the elevator attendant... how awesome is that! So we went up one or two floors to the lobby of the Chrysler Hall. The show started about 6:30 p.m. well it was supposed to start at 6:30 p.m. but I guess because of all the commotion and because it was a kid show, the show didn't get started until 6:45 p.m. which was still good time because we were a little bit late. But overall: great sound system, good the seating, but in my opinion there are no bad seats at the Chrysler Hall. Outside of the hall, there were vendors present. One vendor, Flamingo Joes and they sold popcorn, icees, and cotton candy. The venue itself had their own set up where they sold alcoholic drinks as well as Fountain drinks believe I saw some pretzels. The only thing I didn't care for was the set up as far as the lines were super ridiculous and intertwined. I recommend this venue for: plays, concerts, stand-up, comedians... it's a great venue!
