At a quick look most of not all of the negative reviews have to with shows and not the venue. The Sandler like all venues have near nothing to do with a performance or performers. I wish people would keep that in mind. Now the venue: It was clean and modern and seemed well cared for. This includes the restrooms. Which if you go to shows this is saying something. As for the seats and auditorium: They were comfortable and wider than many other venues. The sound for my performance was real good. Staff: Very very friendly. Most seemed older and seem to handle moving the 1000+ folks in and out very well. Concessions: got pretty busy but it did move along. Maybe 1 or 2 more persons behind the counter could have helped. As for food and drink: Typical snack bar fair and wasn't too bad priced. Not nearly as high as other places. Parking: Although not necessarily the Sandler's alone. Wasn't too bad. But we got to the center early and I'm glad we did. I think a visitor could be pressed with parking if a Friday or Saturday night when the local restaurants and bars were more full. My show was on a Tuesday. So overall a solid place to take in a show. I would have no problem visiting again.

We had happily volunteered as ushers for many productions from plays to musicals and made it one of our favorite dates for several seasons. We always enjoyed the remarkable talent, time, and commitment this local theatre brings out to share with the community from the fantastic stage designs and sets to its diverse and talented casts of performers. The Green Room offers light refreshments for purchase and has fundraising raffles, too. It's a neat place to stop into during intermission, and you're now permitted to bring your beverage into the theatre now, as long as you're mindful to remove and dispose of your trash when leaving the theatre. The theatre's name might include the word little, but it has a large heart! Let's keep it clean! While we are big fans of Broadway in New York City, and have purchased season tickets to Broadway in Norfolk, the Little Theatre of Norfolk provides amazing shows and performances that we highly recommend. So, when a friend saw that LTN was offering 'In the Heights, A New Musical' by Lin-Manuel Miranda, we couldn't wait to join them for the show. It was their first time at LTN. We're all big fans of Lin-Manuel and this weekend's performance did not disappoint. We were moving to the beats and humming in our seats. The set designs were vivid and bright, and the lighting used on and off stage, along with the cast singing and dancing in the aisles were electric. Job well done LTN!

The staff were friendly as we checked in and found our seats, and the Green Room bar is a nice touch if you'd like to enjoy a beverage during the performance. As for the show--Gaslight--I was genuinely impressed. The acting was superb, the set design captured the period beautifully, and the tension of the story was carried expertly by the cast. This classic psychological drama tells the story of Bella Manningham and her manipulative husband Jack, whose strange behavior slowly convinces Bella that she may be losing her sanity. Without giving away the mystery, the production builds suspense masterfully and delivers a powerful payoff that keeps the audience fully engaged. If you enjoy live theatre performed at a high level, The Little Theatre of Norfolk is well worth a visit. Not only will you enjoy a great evening of entertainment--you'll also be supporting a wonderful part of Norfolk's local arts community.

Akon and the Les Twins also were giving the crowd what we wanted!! Lit lit, and his outfits were nice!! The staff were all friendly! I felt safe and had a blast sincerely. The food is pricey af so be prepared to pay $20 for a few chicken tenders and fries. I paid $10 for 12 fries. I was still hungry afterwards. Lol. Luckily everything else made up for it. So bring snacks from home to save money! You can also bring a sealed bottle of water. They have a few different food options like hotdogs, burgers, popcorn, margaritas, and etc. The bathrooms are hot as hell, so be prepared to get in and out. Also bring sanitizer, because they run out of soap sometimes. I saw a bunch of nasty people walk out without trying to wash those dirty hands. Ewww!! Rather than assisting us, he simply pointed a finger toward concessions and directed us there to redeem our movie passes. The concessions area was not much better. The first thing you notice is the overwhelming smell of burnt popcorn, and the counters were covered in liquid from spilled or splashed drinks. The only bright spot of the entire experience was the young lady working behind the concession counter, who was polite and kind. We ordered two large drinks and a large popcorn, only to be told they couldn't sell large drinks because they had no lids. Instead, we were offered (and charged for) large ICEE cups. When it came time to pay and redeem our movie ticket vouchers, the employee repeatedly tried to process them without success before finally calling a manager. The manager slowly walked over, then slowly walked back to the ticket counter to retrieve replacement tickets. She eventually returned while we continued waiting, now approximately eight minutes late for our movie. We then had to wait even longer for the employee to finish washing her hands before she could scan the tickets. Once we finally made it to the drink machines, one of them wasn't working. Then we discovered the butter dispenser wasn't working either. My husband, who is handicapped, had to walk to the opposite side of the counter just to get butter for our popcorn. By this point, we were roughly 15 minutes late for the movie we had paid to see. Unfortunately, the problems didn't stop there. When we entered the theater, the trash cans were overflowing and the floors were covered with popcorn and other garbage. We finally reached our seats only to discover that the theater did not have reclining seats. My husband struggled to get comfortable for the first half of the movie. To make matters worse, the auditorium was so warm that we were sweating. I actually had to leave the movie and track down the employee at the ticket counter--the only staff member I could find--to ask if someone could please turn on the air conditioning. This theater appears to be poorly managed, understaffed, and lacking even the most basic attention to cleanliness and customer service. From the dirty concessions area, malfunctioning equipment, and overflowing trash to the lack of urgency from management and uncomfortable theater conditions, nearly every aspect of our visit was frustrating. I will never return to this theater, and after this experience, it's easy to understand why so many movie theaters are struggling to keep customers coming back.

Returned in 2026, and they do not have the reclining seats anymore, which was the main reason I chose this location. Other than that, it's mostly your typical movie house. Concessions are ridiculously overpriced, moviegoers are obnoxiously loud, and the trailers last forever. It took nearly half an hour for one film to start because of all the commercials advertising how great AMC is. It was very ironic as it didn't do them any favors in proving that claim. However, I have had a good time here. The lobby is big and they have a bar in case you want to drown your sorrows over having spent so much money and having to sit through a sucky film. They also have claw machines where you can get little toys if you pay for tokens. I took the gamble and won a rubber turtle with an affliction and a soccer ball on its shell. Maybe I just like hanging out in movie theaters, but I did enjoy my time here each visit. I'd go back if I was in the area or if I wanted to go a little way out from where I live if there's something playing at this one I want to see that badly. This is where I discovered the Commodore. It was, indeed, joy. I had spent time in my teenage years working at movie theaters selling popcorn and soda, and in my very young years when we didn't have AC in our house we would spend Saturdays at the old "third run" movie theaters where for $1 you could watch the movie several times without an issue. Sticky floors, giant buckets of popcorn, wobbly seats, that was my youth and I loved it. So, finding the Commodore, which was being restored at the time, was delightful, because the owner was creating a special experience - a theater where you sit at small cafe tables, each with it's own dim light and telephone. You order by telephone and food is brought out while you watch the movie. Seats are plush and roll smoothly along the soft carpet. The BEST part, though, is the SOUND. To explain, I must tell this story: In 1996 I had a challenging situation at work. Our company was celebrating it's 50th year in business and they wanted each location to have a celebration party that the senior executives would join, and one site would be named 'the best'. Our slot was in November, had to be during the work day, and no alcohol. Hmm. Then we realized the Commodore was also 50 years old - yay! We designed a 'murder at the theater' mystery that took place in 1946. In discussing our plans with the owner, a man I think named Fred, he told us the story of how he came to own the place - a movie nut - and that as a retired engineer he realized the walls were very thick and the space could handle a superior sound system without disrupting anyone outside the building. So he went about figuring ways to install a THX like system - long before THX became a licensed product. He was having some difficulty and wrote a highly technical letter to Skywalker Sound, asking for their thoughts on solutions. The team was so enamored of the project that they came out and helped him complete the installation. The result, gentle reader, is outstanding sound. Truly. For example, we saw Dances with Wolves there and I ducked when I heard those bullets whizzing by my ear. Until we did this event though I never knew the story behind it. Fast forward to this year. I moved away from the area decades ago, but was in town for an event, and yes, I planned to go to the Commodore during my stay. What I saw was so much what I had remembered and more. Restorations had continued, and the lobby had more decor, including an alcove that was set up like a scene from past times. Staff were great. No online ordering, you go to the box office to get tickets. Go. If you like movies at all, go. This place is amazing, unique, special, all those words. You bet I'll be back. PS. Bonus points from me if you can tell me why George Lucas named his groundbreaking sound system THX. :)

Plush seating, actual tables, and servers bringing food while explosions happen on screen makes you feel like royalty who also enjoys popcorn and bad decisions at the concession stand. The theater itself looks like old-school Hollywood decided to move to Portsmouth and never left. The sound is incredible, the screen is huge, and somehow even the fries feel like they deserve an award nomination. Honestly ruined regular movie theaters for me. Now when I go anywhere else, I'm confused why no one is bringing me dinner while I emotionally recover from plot twists. Five stars. Come hungry, leave happy, and prepare to become dramatically judgmental about every other theater afterward.

It was so good! I love scary haunted house and this one delivered. They don't just rely on cheap…read morejump scares but use a lot of amazing special effects, great actors, and interactive props to really get you into the scenes. And it was so long! I really feel like they give you a lot of experience for one haunt. One of the best haunted house I've seen in awhile and I've been to a lot of them in my travels over the years. As we were dropped off at the curb, we noticed a scary clown waiting for us to come in. As we entered, we walked through the temple and checked in with our tickets. We were then shown to the "lobby area" where they had many tables out and concessions available for purchase. The line was not too long. We probably waited 10-15 minutes. They had us put together with a couple making it 6 of us. We watched a couple videos that explained what to expect. I think it was pretty good. They had a bunch of loud sounds, great lighting and scary props. I do not want to give too much away but I feel like it was put together pretty well. I would definitely recommend going.
