The stage and of course, Magnolia Park!
Geoff T.

Synopsis: We went and saw Magnolia Park at Elevation 27 and it was by far one of the best shows I have ever been to. Mag Park put on an amazing show and the VIP upgrade was beyond worth it. Elevation 27 as a venue is small but has a good crew that helped the bands put on their best performances possible. While the staff was standoffish and rather unpleasant, they did not ruin the experience in the slightest. Prices for drinks and inside are to be expected--high. The men's bathroom was surprisingly clean and well taken care of. Overall not a bad venue at all. Magnolia Park (and the two opening acts of 408 and Broadside) were amazing. 408 is all over my playlists now bringing me back to the punk rock/alternative of the 2000s and Broadside has some incredible tunes as well. Mag Park was the real reason we went to the show and they did not disappoint. We had the VIP experience with them before the show where they put on an acoustic concert, had us take pictures with them, and stuck around chatting for an hour+. I cannot recommend seeing them enough. You will absolutely love the show, love the band, and love the experience. Elevation 27 as a venue is 100% worth going to if a band or act you want to see if playing there. 4.5 Rocking Stars out of 5!

Really good House night

Went to check out a house show. Dope spot. Outside has a nice smoking area and the drinks were good with a good selection. People were super nice and the bartenders were good with getting me a drink right on time. Can't wait to go there again

I accompanied my friend here to see "Beach Floyd" Alice in Wonderland show. This was a kick a$$ show. The band being as great as they were made the experience for me. As far as the actual establishment, the doorman was the only person working that actually talked to us, and was in good spirits. We had a table, was there before the show started and no one ever came to the table to take our order. We ended up walking over to the bar, but there was no one there either. We had to wait for someone to show up. Just really seemed like outside of the band and the doorman, everyone else seemed to be MIA. I still had a really good time because the band was out of sight!!! Very good, very talented local people. Lastly if you are looking for a diverse place to hang, unfortunately this is not it. Being a person of color, I love to see diversity in spaces I visit. There is a lack of diversity here. Probably could count on one had, the number of people who were of color. Perhaps it's the fan base of the band. Either way, it was noticeable. -yes it matters... REPRESENTATION is everything.

Tonight we went to Elevation 27 to watch Almost Queen, a tribute band to the original legendary band. The staff is well trained (especially security) to handle any issues that are usually present when dealing with large crowds consuming alcohol. The acoustics were great and that made for a very enjoyable evening. A great sound person can turn a mediocre singer into a great singer and a poor sound person can wreck a great singers performance. Fortunately the sound person was really good and so were the singers. I really like this venue because of the layout in terms of the position of the stage and with Bars on both sides that makes getting served really easy. The first band, Rachel and the Jelly Cats did a great job in warming the audience up for Almost Queen. They sang several familiar songs that were upbeat and well performed. When Almost Queen came out the audience was ready to enjoy the music that most of us grew up listening to but surprisingly there were quite a few younger people there as well. The lead singer looked like the Legendary Freddy Mercury and sometimes sang like him but obviously that is a very tall order to fill (nobody sings like Freddy!) I really enjoyed this band and I'll see them again if the opportunity presents. ***Update*** We saw On the Border (Eagles Tribute Band) last night and they were amazing. The lead singer has Don Henley down to a tee! There was a little mix up with our table (the seats were purchased, pre COVID-19) but the staff handled it really well and to our complete satisfaction!!!

I've been here a LONG time ago when it was called "Steppin out" they used to have a lot of indie shows, but they tore that building down and rebuilt it and it was turned into the Jewish mother, maybe something else before that too. Anyway.. I digress. They fixed this place up!! It's pretty swanky in there with their chandelier. It's an intimate venue and clean! I'm so used to seeing punk shows, hardcore/indie shows in dirty nasty venues. This was a breath of fresh air literally and figuratively now that places are smoke free on the inside. It's way smaller than the Norva but bigger than your tiny venues if that makes sense. It's deep. When you walk in there is a check in on the left and the right. Not sure which is for which since they have will call and then those who have tickets already printed. You can buy tickets ahead of time during business hours at the venue without the service fee (if you buy online there is a $5-$7 service fee). I purchased my ticket online and paid the fee. However, I recommend if you aren't far from the venue to buy it on site. I went ahead and bought my Saves the Day ticket for August since I was already there for a show. Way cheaper!! They have some pretty good indie, punk and hardcore acts coming through. I was wondering where those shows would end up with Shaka's closing. Now I know. Once you enter the venue, on the right are tables for eating. I think for some shows they sell table seating, which I think gets you in earlier but if you miss your time slot or something your table isn't guaranteed?? I can't quite confirm that (refer to their website). Unless you NEED to sit, I recommend you buy general admission and save your money. The sound stage is in the middle in front of the tables. The merch stands are on the right side of the wall and there's a bar on the left and on the right closer to the stage. I usually like to go upfront. They have this mat that's ramped at an angle but then the rest of it is flat in front of the stage so if you're not in the very front you might be half on or half off the mat. The show I attended was Mewithoutyou , Cursive and Appleseed Cast. I'm not sure if this is how they normally set up equipment but it was pretty darn efficient. In between sets to minimize time they had all three drum sets I want to say on the stage the entire time. So of course the headlining band's drum set was in the back last so when each band played they took their equipment and the next band's drum set was already ready to rock. The sound was pretty good as well. The parking is severely limited. Unless you get there really early there's only maybe 20 spots if that?? I didn't count but I'm guessing. Don't fret, there's ample parking in the Walmart lot (this is allowed). It's not a far walk either, just a few feet and a walk across the street.

Almost Queen concert was great.

Friend and I went to the Almost Queen concert. Great venue, great service and sound system sounded fantastic. Definitely will be back to try some of their food. Several dishes that were served around us looked really good.

Ask the Community - Elevation 27

What are the chances of getting a table on a night when a popular band is playing?

Is this place kid friendly?

Yes -I went there for a country concert and while no kids were in my party I did notice that both the wait staff and ticket takers went out of their way to welcome those younger music lovers

For the first concert, I had to stand way in the back and unfortunately i wasn't able to see much. The dome doesn't have any screens of the stage so if you don't have a good view of the stage, you're kinda screwed. Thankfully the other two shows i was up fairly close so the view was great but any further back it's kinda blah. Sound system is great but i really wish they had screens of the stage on the sides like most bigger venues do. At the second show, one of my friends got pizza and it was terribleeee it was so low effort, yet expensive. The drinks are also fairly high, but i do expect that in Virginia Beach. The seats were also extremely tight, it was a task trying not to bump those next to me or even have enough arm room. There is a parking garage attached to the dome, which most times you can pay for along with your ticket(s), however, I wouldn't park there unless you plan on leaving the show before the let out. There are other nearby parking lots that are a block or two away that are more convenient.

I didn't frequent Peabody's since I have never been a person who loves dancing or DJs. Also, I was outside of Peabody's target demographic of 18-24 year-olds. This was during my "bitter chick rock" phase that still rears its head now and then, and one of my favorite bitter chick bands was L7! I saw their show at Peabody's on April 15, 1997. It was a great venue for this raw, bitter, loud band with a house packed and standing room only of fans trying their best to make a mosh pit. I guess Hole was my second favorite bitter chick band. Back to the L7 show. Classified as grunge, punk, and metal, I think L7 is more chick punk. Their guitarist was unavailable this night, and they replaced her with a local Va Beach chick guitarist who did a great job. The locals recognized her, I didn't. Smoking was allowed inside, and this audience was pretty aggressive for the times, with a lot of college aged guys wearing backwards baseball caps. That's fine, until the guys use their ballcaps as weapons to poke me in the forehead and face to try to keep me out of their mosh pit making range. The goal of the audience was to get to stage front. The audience even resorted to using cigarette lighters to burn each others clothes. Who does this? This show was during "The Beauty Process" tour and the setlist was great with songs from previous CDs including "L7" and other previous music. Par for the course, during "Cat-O-Nine Tails," a guy in leather bondage was brought on stage and then whipped with a whip by Donita, the lead singer. I'm confident this was just a show, and the poor guy wasn't hurt. "The Masses are Asses" is another L7 tune I like. Why no fifth star? The bouncers were interesting. They waited for patrons to make their way to the stage and for the most part, escorted the patron to the door - kicking nearly each one out. The crowd was "elbow to elbow" making it clear it was difficult to just take an overly rowdy and rough patron from the center of the crowd to kick them out. Still, the bouncers were sophomoric, and should have managed the crowd better. I'm happy to have seen L7, I'm happy my party were hurt, and I'm happy Peabody's provided a sizeable venue for an alternative show in the late 90s!

I also appreciate that the venue is very accessible to people who have a disability and need accessibility. It has gender neutral bathrooms and a snack bar where everything is a dollar and honestly what can you get for a dollar these days, not much. On the performing side the backstage area is smaller but still very easy to fit multiple people in and their gear.
