So very crowded and so very touristy. Not my idea of a good time. The statue was cool.

This is a small park located off of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. There is metered street parking and a few commercial lots within walking distance that you can park at to visit here. The meters cost about $2/ hour and the lots vary in price depending on what is going on and the season. It consists of a gazebo, open green space and amphitheater on one side of the boardwalk and a large King Neptune Statue on the other. The park is surprising bigger than you would think, spanning 72,000 square feet. Most people are just fixated on the large statue anyway. and forget about the other side of the park. The amphitheater hosts a free Summer Concert Series in season. However, it was reduced to a makeshift skate park while I was there. It is well maintained and very picturesque. The massive Neptune statue though has to be the most photographed spot in Virginia Beach. It is somewhat the poster child of the beach and city. The statue stands 34 feet tall and is the creation of Paul DiPasquale, who made the piece in 2005. It was funded by contributions collected during the Neptune Festivals. Neptune stands watch over the amphitheater with his back to the Atlantic Ocean as he greets beach goers. The statue depicts Neptune standing high and mighty, holding his signature trident in his right hand and palming a turtle with his left, It is made of bronze and stone and has other prominent sea creatures such as fish and an octopus on the stone portion. The detail put into this statue is amazing. If you are in VA Beach you must get a photo here. But there will probably be a line. So, you more than likely will have to wait to jump in for a photo and someone will be giving you the stink eye to finish up so that they can get their photo after you. If you can visit only one attraction on the boardwalk, this should get the highest consideration. it may not be a long stop, but I highly recommend it.

What a Sunday Funday that was! We parked right at the 2nd Street Parking Lot and trekked our way to the Neptune statue with two dogs in tow. The boardwalk area was surprisingly clean and nicely maintained. The statue is not much to look at, but something good to use as a turning point. It got too hot and too crowded by the time we got there to turn around. If you have anxious dogs or rescues who gets nervous easily, I suggest visiting early before 9 on a Sunday. It will be less crowded and have less bikers to freak out the dog. The area also does not allow dogs after Memorial Day. Something to keep in mind.

It's not really much of a 'park', but the Neptune Statue is so cool to see in-person! It's WAY bigger than what I expected after initially seeing photos on the internet. What makes it even better is that it sits right in front of the beach, so it makes for some awesome pictures. It almost seems to be the symbol of Virginia Beach. You can't visit the beach without seeing this statue up-close!

Neptune Statue at Neptune Park on Boardwalk at Virginia Beach, VA. Great park to visit Free to enjoy. A favorite spot that brings back many memories from my childhood. Tony had never visited the park or the Virginia Beach boardwalk area. I love Virginia Beach VA and I have always had many great memories there.

Very beautiful spot to stop by and take a quick family or Selfie :) Great small shops & restaurants around downtown walking distance & to enjoy the view of the beach.

Nice venue with a pretty awesome statue. Neptune's Park has been around for years although maybe by a different name. There's a small stage for live performance and a kid's jungle gym on the beach. Impossible to miss Neptune Park because there's an enormous statue of Neptune himself.

On a Saturday not to crowded mid morning to early afternoon. Beautiful beach. Lots of parking. A great variety of restaurants and shopping! Love the Neptune Statue definitely worth the drive! Clean and friendly experience today! Beautiful day! Nice long boardwalk for a stroll. During popular season no dogs between 9am-5pm on the boardwalk. See website for more details. Beautiful & huge statue. Neptune park is a part of boardwalk in Virginia Beach (3 miles length). Has separate side walk for pedestrian and another lane for bikes. Very clean and well maintained area. On the way we left the park, we saw musical instruments were set up and ready to play, probably some live music going on. If you visit Virginia Beach, King Neptune statue at Neptune park is a must-visit place.

Cool park with live music. Area to have drinks and listen to the music whether it's live or not.

For the first concert, I had to stand way in the back and unfortunately i wasn't able to see much. The dome doesn't have any screens of the stage so if you don't have a good view of the stage, you're kinda screwed. Thankfully the other two shows i was up fairly close so the view was great but any further back it's kinda blah. Sound system is great but i really wish they had screens of the stage on the sides like most bigger venues do. At the second show, one of my friends got pizza and it was terribleeee it was so low effort, yet expensive. The drinks are also fairly high, but i do expect that in Virginia Beach. The seats were also extremely tight, it was a task trying not to bump those next to me or even have enough arm room. There is a parking garage attached to the dome, which most times you can pay for along with your ticket(s), however, I wouldn't park there unless you plan on leaving the show before the let out. There are other nearby parking lots that are a block or two away that are more convenient.

I didn't frequent Peabody's since I have never been a person who loves dancing or DJs. Also, I was outside of Peabody's target demographic of 18-24 year-olds. This was during my "bitter chick rock" phase that still rears its head now and then, and one of my favorite bitter chick bands was L7! I saw their show at Peabody's on April 15, 1997. It was a great venue for this raw, bitter, loud band with a house packed and standing room only of fans trying their best to make a mosh pit. I guess Hole was my second favorite bitter chick band. Back to the L7 show. Classified as grunge, punk, and metal, I think L7 is more chick punk. Their guitarist was unavailable this night, and they replaced her with a local Va Beach chick guitarist who did a great job. The locals recognized her, I didn't. Smoking was allowed inside, and this audience was pretty aggressive for the times, with a lot of college aged guys wearing backwards baseball caps. That's fine, until the guys use their ballcaps as weapons to poke me in the forehead and face to try to keep me out of their mosh pit making range. The goal of the audience was to get to stage front. The audience even resorted to using cigarette lighters to burn each others clothes. Who does this? This show was during "The Beauty Process" tour and the setlist was great with songs from previous CDs including "L7" and other previous music. Par for the course, during "Cat-O-Nine Tails," a guy in leather bondage was brought on stage and then whipped with a whip by Donita, the lead singer. I'm confident this was just a show, and the poor guy wasn't hurt. "The Masses are Asses" is another L7 tune I like. Why no fifth star? The bouncers were interesting. They waited for patrons to make their way to the stage and for the most part, escorted the patron to the door - kicking nearly each one out. The crowd was "elbow to elbow" making it clear it was difficult to just take an overly rowdy and rough patron from the center of the crowd to kick them out. Still, the bouncers were sophomoric, and should have managed the crowd better. I'm happy to have seen L7, I'm happy my party were hurt, and I'm happy Peabody's provided a sizeable venue for an alternative show in the late 90s!

Aside from those two distinguishing features, Hammerheads is like any other bar on The Block: tiny and crowded. There's nothing spectacular here, just a place to go and get drinks. Still a locals favorite (mostly frequented during the winter when the parking is free and so is the cover), Hammerheads attracts a huge summer crowd of just turned 21s and other rowdy drunk folk. My experience with this place was over even before I got in. Me and a couple of friends wanted to check this place out as we were out of town. I went to have my ID checked by one of the bouncer, who examined it for nearly a minute. The bouncer asked that I confirm the address on my ID two times. After I gave him that, he asked for ANOTHER ID (ridiculous at this point). After giving him another ID for ANOTHER MINUTE, he asked for my address again. After I gave him the address again, he told me that he could not let me in, and insisted on keeping my original ID (which was my license). I had to get a police officer to come over and get my ID from the bouncer, so he can give it back to me. Even the police officer said that the picture on the ID looks like me. Absolutely appalling the things I had to go through with this bouncer. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone at all. It's obvious that this place discriminates on the patrons that try to get in. This was definitely one of the downfalls of my trip to Virginia.
