Neptune's Park is a must-visit if you're in Virginia Beach. That giant bronze statue of King Neptune? It's basically the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben of the Oceanfront; towering, iconic, and perfect for photos. I got an amazing pic there with my little brother that I'll always treasure. The park itself is a chill, grassy space right off the boardwalk, often buzzing with live music and people just soaking up the vibe. It's the perfect spot to relax after a stroll or while waiting for the next show to start, there's also beach access not too far from the park if you want to feel the sand in-between your toes, soak up the sun, or hop in the Atlantic Ocean. This public park had an open grass field, a performing stage, and a status on the boardwalk. The statue is a popular spot for tourists to take pictures. It has plaque describing the contribution of Sidney Kellam King Neptune VI in forming the city of Virginia Beach. It just sits on a concrete extension of the broad walk, a bit underwhelming for such historical landmark. The field across the statues is open to public. People just walk around while going in and out of the beach sand. Bunch of restaurants and shops are nearby to grab food and drinks. The theater is used for scheduled special events. But while visiting the park I noticed few of random people were just sitting on the stage. It felt little sketchy but there was plenty of foot traffic since there was beach shower faucet right across the Neptune statue and the park. read more

I went to Neptune Park to participate in the SOLD OUT She Crab Soup competition. It was a great experience. The restaurants really came out for this competition. There was even the Food Network doing a special! The only downfall was that the space was crowded! I definitely believe they should move it to a larger park either in VB or Norfolk. Where's Will Pharrell? I was visiting Virginia Beach in 40 degrees weather with a wind chill of "I can't feel my fingers!!!" I was hunting for this monument from the movie and wanted to check it out. See how accurate it compares to Lego bricks. :p It's a really nice sculpture and the backdrop just makes me awww struck. There's plenty of details to make this look like Neptune posed in real life for this. There are benches every few feet to sit back and enjoy. Or, you can lay a blanket on the beach. There was a couple on beach chairs feeding a swarm of seagulls. I suggest not camping out near them during feeding or else :p Overall five stars it's a great conversation piece and after you can visit the many shops and eateries in the area. This is a small park located off of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. There is metered street parking and a few commercial lots within walking distance that you can park at to visit here. The meters cost about $2/ hour and the lots vary in price depending on what is going on and the season. It consists of a gazebo, open green space and amphitheater on one side of the boardwalk and a large King Neptune Statue on the other. The park is surprising bigger than you would think, spanning 72,000 square feet. Most people are just fixated on the large statue anyway. and forget about the other side of the park. The amphitheater hosts a free Summer Concert Series in season. However, it was reduced to a makeshift skate park while I was there. It is well maintained and very picturesque. The massive Neptune statue though has to be the most photographed spot in Virginia Beach. It is somewhat the poster child of the beach and city. The statue stands 34 feet tall and is the creation of Paul DiPasquale, who made the piece in 2005. It was funded by contributions collected during the Neptune Festivals. Neptune stands watch over the amphitheater with his back to the Atlantic Ocean as he greets beach goers. The statue depicts Neptune standing high and mighty, holding his signature trident in his right hand and palming a turtle with his left, It is made of bronze and stone and has other prominent sea creatures such as fish and an octopus on the stone portion. The detail put into this statue is amazing. If you are in VA Beach you must get a photo here. But there will probably be a line. So, you more than likely will have to wait to jump in for a photo and someone will be giving you the stink eye to finish up so that they can get their photo after you. If you can visit only one attraction on the boardwalk, this should get the highest consideration. it may not be a long stop, but I highly recommend it. read more

What a Sunday Funday that was! We parked right at the 2nd Street Parking Lot and trekked our way to the Neptune statue with two dogs in tow. The boardwalk area was surprisingly clean and nicely maintained. The statue is not much to look at, but something good to use as a turning point. It got too hot and too crowded by the time we got there to turn around. If you have anxious dogs or rescues who gets nervous easily, I suggest visiting early before 9 on a Sunday. It will be less crowded and have less bikers to freak out the dog. The area also does not allow dogs after Memorial Day. Something to keep in mind. read more

But this is a park so there's more to take in, after you get that photo. Also, come by during the evening to get one with the boardwalk lighting. The amphitheater could not have a more perfect view. Whoever is on the stage, you are sure to relax and enjoy with the waves crashing behind you and the smell of the sea in the air. It is also part of the boardwalk that takes you up and down the beach. Neptune's Park is one of those things in Virginia Beach that everyone knows, sees, has photos of, and visits. It's become an icon of the oceanfront and is often featured on race medals, shirts, stickers, you name it. It's a giant status of, you guessed it, King Neptune himself with his trident and holding a sea turtle with plenty of other marine life below him on rocks. It's pretty damn cool. No matter how many times I see it, I always snap a photo of it when I'm close to it. It's co-located with the Hilton and Catch 31 and has a large stage for music and events across from it. Beautiful & huge statue. Neptune park is a part of boardwalk in Virginia Beach (3 miles length). Has separate side walk for pedestrian and another lane for bikes. Very clean and well maintained area. On the way we left the park, we saw musical instruments were set up and ready to play, probably some live music going on. Some people hear "the king" and think Elvis. I'm more of a King Neptune gal myself. Thinking of "the king" fills me with all the warm and fuzzy feelings of good times, good vibes, with good people! Seeing him on the boardwalk usually means that the finish line is near when I am out for a run or running one of the many local races hosted on the boardwalk. Neptune Park is a great location for post-race parties, beer & wine festivals, and more! Seeing him may also mean that I am about to have a fun night of dancing and music with friends at one of the concerts held here throughout the summer. I consider myself pretty knowledgable about the events happening at the Oceanfront, but there is always something happening at Neptune Park during the peak season- I am often surprised! You can listen while enjoying a delicious beverage from Catch 31, bring a lawn chair, or get right up close in the middle of the dance crowd. Typically shows here are of the more relaxing variety so crowds typically stay pretty tame and family friendly. Every now and then seeing him means I am moments away from getting a tasty treat from a food truck pulled up nearby. You never know, they pop up all summer long! Finally, sometimes seeing him just means I am home and you can't beat that feeling! It may not be the center of the boardwalk, but it is center in this VB lovin' gal's heart! There is a swing set or some basic playground equipment directly behind it on the beach. My favorite view of it is at Catch 31, having cocktail on the outside patio and people watching. Neptune's Park is a dynamic outdoor venue that overlooks Virginia Beach's main boardwalk and the ocean. During the summer they host free summer concert series that include talented and diverse recording artists that perform for residents and the public. The Symphony by the Sea Concert Series on Thursdays nights are pretty popular. During the winter, they put up a large Christmas tree. You can't miss the large bronze statue of the mythological god King Neptune statue on the boardwalk. It was sculpted by Paul DiPasquale in the early 2000's. It stands 34 feet, 12 tons and is surrounded by dolphins, lobsters, octopuses and other aquatic creatures. Neptune holds a loggerhead turtle in one hand and a trident in the other. Neptue's Park is the heart and soul of the Virginia Beach Ocean Front. Located beside the Hilton and off the boardwalk it is both a tourist and a locals attraction. I would consider it both safe and clean and feel it is a crowning jewel for the city. Parking is across the street in a parking garage and street parking if you can find it is metered. I would recommend the parking garage as our family has never had an issue and no worries on feeding the meter. There are also restrooms located off of Pacific. They are usually in great shape and applaud they city for their efforts. Our family is at this beach quite often. I would consider Neptune's Park to be broken down into three main parts. But as you will read I threw in kind of a forth. 1. First you have the amphitheater just off Pacific which cranks out great music that is free. A nice grass lawn for throwing out a blanket and bringing a cooler of your favorite beverage on a nice evening is pretty darn awesome. Kick off your shoes and be ready to shake some booty. 2. Second you have the King Neptune Statue that people hang out around and take pics. If you have never seen this monstrosity it's HUGE!!! Great photo op place, don't miss the opportunity to pluck some random stranger off the boardwalk to take your pic so the whole family is included. 3. Third is the playground beach which is very small and designed for children 10&U. It's enough to keep the kids busy, especially the younger ages. Bring a bucket and shovel and the kids will have a ball for a long time. It is debatable I suppose if the Hilton's outdoor bar Catch 31 is part of the park. It is right off the boardwalk and a short distance from King Neptune and beside the amphitheater. It is an awesome place to hang and people watch, The fire pits are exclusive real estate. I find it the best place to relax with a drink and listen to music with friends, or family. If there is negative it is the fact that such big crowds mob the park it can be uncomfortable at times. The bigger the crowds the less parking, the more difficult it is to move around. This is not all of the time, but most Summer and event weekends this tends to be the case. So a 1 star deduction for me. My family will continue to enjoy Neptune Park for years to come. Whether your a tourist, or local I urge those reading this review to check this vibrant part of the beach out, it's pretty awesome! read more

Coming from the Midwest, I sort of geek out anytime I can get close to the water. And lucky for me, I found myself on Virginia Beach in the off season. The weather was perfect, there weren't nearly as many people as I assume the summer months see, and the boardwalk stretched for miles. What I liked most was the promise of much to see and do along the way, including Neptune's Park. At 31st St., is the King himself. The King Neptune Statue was built in 2005 in celebration of the annual Neptune Festival. Trident in hand and surrounded by dolphins, fish and turtles, the 34 foot statue of Neptune majestically rules the Boardwalk. Down the street from Neptune you can see the Old Coast Guard Station, a Virginia Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic places. In 1915, the United States Lifesaving Service became the United States Coast Guard. The station at Seatack (built in 1903 to replace an earlier structure built in 1878) is now this museum. It remained an active US Life saving station until January 1969. Subsequently, the station was moved about two hundred yards from the original location to be preserved and to serve as a memorial to "those who served". The area's lifesaving history along the coast line of the Graveyard of the Atlantic is commemorated here. It has artifacts from the shipwreck of the Dictator, displays of period lifesaving equipment, educational programs. One block down on 25th St., is the Naval Aviation Monument, which honors the military presence in Hampton Roads. The bronze statues depict WWII soldiers and modern day aviators, among others. Located right next to the Naval Aviation Monument is the Norwegian Lady. After a tragic shipwreck of the Norwegian sailing vessel Dictator in 1891, the sunken ship's figurehead washed ashore. It was placed on the Boardwalk where it stood for 60 years, but was later replaced with this statue to memorialize the lost lives. The Norwegian Lady's twin stands in Moss, Norway - Virginia Beach's sister city. The Lady's face each other across the ocean. The Virginia Legends Walk is nearby and honors famous Virginians (either natives or by residence). It features historical figures like Pocahontas, Edgar Allan Poe and George Washington. Neptune Park is a beautiful area to be, and a great example of why Hampton Roads, Va, is such a great place to live. I've been trekking over to Virginia Beach semi-regularly my entire life. It's gone through a lot of changes, and Neptune Park represents the best version of a beautiful place. It's lively and vibrant, with regular live music and a ton of businesses in close proximity. It's cleaner and nicer now than it's ever been. The city is doing a wonderful job of making it a place you want to hang out. I sometimes meet people there to take pictures. Especially around dawn the light here is so achingly gorgeous it's hard to believe it's a real place. The epic, beautiful statue sets the appropriate tone for the whole surrounding area.
