Red Wing Park is my favorite park. 2025 they did a bunch of upgrades. Better parking. Drainage is better. The landscape is THE PRETTIEST park in Virginia Beach. Every spring they gave the cherry blossom festival. And every year it gets better and better. They did a grand Illumination this year and it was stunning. It was a whole experience. I could've sworn I've reviewed RWP before... but, apparently not! As someone who used to live in Red Mill area, I visited here a few times over the years and think that the cute little Japanese garden area is adorable. Smaller parking lot but there is far more parking in the back area by the golf course. It's famous for the two weekends a year in spring during the Cherry Blossom Festival hosted here. Alas, the lines to pull in are SO long, I have avoided it and never seen it in action - though, it's on the bucket list for some day. It's cute and small, and worth a visit if you're in the area, but it's nothing to make a trip across town solely for under normal circumstances. read more

What a wonderful way to end the work week with a stroll through the canopy of Japanese Cherry Blossoms and into the Japanese Gardens!! The weather was quite chilly but still lovely enough to take the Hanami experience, where all the Kwanzan cherry blossoms were lit up with pink lights. Such an ethereal feeling wandering through the gardens and among the cherry blossoms! We wandered around and visited several booths and vendors. And of course, we had to buy some Tumbeezy cookies, and some cute crafts!! We were so lucky because as we left, it started pouring rain! Talk about great timing!! Highly recommend this event as it was rich in history between the sister cities of Virginia Beach and Mizayaki! Great atmosphere and a great time !! Visitors and locals need to visit this park. I think it gets over shadowed by First Landing and Mount Trashmore. I went with someone that grew up here and had never been but said it is now on his list to come back with his 2 kids. We had a picnic and it was a wonderful day. The kids ran around, played in one of the parks.....as did the adults. They have tennis courts and plenty of options for families. We chose to sit in the shade in a wide open area but they have covered areas with grills and tables. They have a dog park and a Japanese garden and Cherry Blossoms. They have great trails for walking or running and we even saw some roller bladers on the newly asphaulted roads. I will be back and you definitely need to check out this park. read more

Red Wing Park is the very first place I go to whenever I am back in the area. I get horribly car sick every time I am in the car for nearly 4 hours and so do my 2 hounds. But once I step into the park, we just feel instantaneously better and feel like we just made it home. We happily go stretch our legs out and take a lap or two together and take it all in. Yes, even with the jets flying and everything, I feel so much at peace compared to being in the DMV area. And it's also the very last place I always visit before heading home. It lets us depart longing to come back again soon. I don't really know of any other places that makes me feel that way and that's just one of the very special things about going to Red Wing Park. As always, the park was well maintained with zero litters and dog dropping this past weekend. We had a wonderful visit 3 days in a row and I can't wait to return again soon. read more

This is one of the most beautiful, cleanest parks I have found in Hampton Roads! Looking for yet another way to entertain my toddler, we stopped by this past Sunday around 9am. There are 2 playground areas - one closer to the entrance on the right and another past the tennis courts on the left. The 2nd playground was empty and very well-shaded at this time of the morning so we parked close by and stayed here for an hour or so. There is plenty of parking available, nearby picnic tables and benches to rest while you watch your kiddos and clean restrooms a short walk away. Additional restrooms are located near the playground toward the front of the park. There were several games of soccer happening nearby so many cars were already parked along the road. I would recommend slow, cautious driving here as kids were darting in between cars and can easily go unseen until too late! We noted a paved pathway around the perimeter for biking or dog-walking. There are also 2 sand volleyball courts. We would have taken advantage of the empty courts to play in the sand, but they were swarming with flies. On our exit, I noticed some nice picnic areas with grills, space to play games and covered pavilions. I have visited during peak cherry blossom blooming and I recommend coming early on those days as it gets packed with amateur photographers and visitors. Overall a beautiful park to visit with plenty of open space and things to do for families. read more

So beautiful! The Japanese decor and Zen garden were peaceful and aesthetically pleasing. I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival on Saturda. It was nice but the food trucks had long lines that didn't seem to be moving at all. We were hungry so we left. read more

This is a really great park! It's a LOT bigger than I thought when I first pulled in. There are numerous play areas for kids, a dog park, ample covered shelter areas for picnics and such. I was in the area for an event, and decided since the weather was so beautiful to take a stroll through the Japanese gardens here. It's amazing! They also have a huge collection of cherry blossom trees - the bloom had already passed when I visited, but apparently when you catch them in bloom it's just like the festivals I went to at several temples in Japan! I'm going to mark this on my list of things to do next spring for sure. read more

The city of Virginia Beach uses this park every year for employee appreciation cookout,ever since I've been employed by them anyway,but back to the review they use Pollards Chicken which for those of you that are not locally here in Virginia Beach is a local chicken spot( chicken is ok ). The catering is pretty good though. The park is pretty big with large grass areas to hang out and relax. There is a basketball court there as well if you want to shoot some hoops,restrooms nearby the courts too,there are restrooms facilities further in the park too if you're out in the grass areas as well for your convenience,there are other things you can do there as well but I only go for yearly company outings!... read more

A nice park with a small, but beautiful Japanese garden at the entrance. This park is right off general booth blvd. Bathrooms are slightly further into the park on the right once you have passed the Japanese garden. There are enormous fields to run around, have a picnic and walk your dogs. The cherry blossoms line the left side of the park. I haven't had a chance to explore the trails (which I think they do have). There is a basketball court, tennis court, a playground and some picnic shelters as well. I've only walked the perimeter. They even have a pollinator garden on the left near the entrance. read more

A beautiful park!!! There is so much open area! Of course there are those beautiful cherry blossom trees when they are bloom that's how I found out about this park. There is a cute garden to walk through to the left when you enter the parking lot. There is parking lots but, if it is super crowded, parking along the street is a must. A long over due weigh in of Red Wing Park. The park has a lot to offer, but is best known for its dog park which is on most days very active. The park is also know for its Cherry Blossoms in the Spring. I seem to miss its peak every year which is the end of March. The Virginia Beach public park is located off of General Booth. The entrance is well marked. When you enter you will see the parks first gem, but it's considered a separate part. The Miyazaki Japanese Garden has its own parking and is a must to see. So what do they have? Let's start with the dog park located centrally on the grounds. This is the major draw and its well maintained and the dog owners police themselves with debris clean up. Parking is adjacent to the area and it's a huge lot. Other park amenities are playground, basketball, pickle ball, tennis courts, shelters to rent and restrooms located in the rear. Up front there are also trails that are often overlooked off of General Booth. The staff keep trash at a minimum and cans are conveniently located. Several events are held throughout the year, but none bigger than the Filipino Cultural Day. Also the K-9 Karnival is a large annual event. I attended last year and recommend. There is plenty of open space for events, throwing a ball around, or organizing a recreational game of soccer, or football. There are no ball fields. This may not be a park you have yet to visit at the beach. We are blessed as residents to have an awesome park system. Is this the best, not in my opinion, but it's one of the cities strongest when combine with Miyazaki Garden. read more

Located just a few minutes from the ocean front this is a perfect spot for families to enjoy the great out doors. What a lovely park! I love how there is not only a trail and playgrounds, but there's a lot of open fields for people to relax on. The sheltered areas looked well taken care of. Parking was a little tight so people were starting to park just on the side of roads and it would be helpful to have more signage, but I would visit again! read more

We've heard through the grape vine that Red Wing is a great place to find kindness rocks. If you didn't know, "The Kindness Rocks Project was created to spread inspiration and a moment of kindness for unsuspecting recipients through random inspirational rocks dropped along the way." My daughter and I love painting and hiding rocks back home in MD. However today we only found one, and it wasn't even painted. Red wing is pretty nice. You can park near the garden area or towards the dog park. The cherry blossoms are blooming right now, but I'd hurry to see them as they don't stay long. It's an beautiful spot for pictures. The children's park looks so-so, but it didn't stop my daughter from going to town. As long as it has a swing, she's a happy camper. They also have a dog park that looked well maintained and had a bunch of dogs happily romping around. I'll have to bring my shiba inu here one day. I had to resist asking the owners if I could pet all the dogs. Dalmatians and huskies and frenchies oh my! Also, if you're into Pokémon Go, there are a plethora of poke stops. We came around 3pm on a Thursday and it had a few lures already going. read more

Red Wing Park is one of my favorite parks in Virginia Beach and my go-to, most visited park throughout the past 10 years. It is spacious, consistently very well maintained, and has a variety of features and amenities that make for a lot to do and enjoy. -- Playgrounds -- There are 2 partially shaded, medium sized playground areas with wood chip mulch. Because this park is often busy, it's best for elementary school aged children. (It can be a bit too hectic for younger children, especially on weekends.) -- Pavilions & Picnic Areas -- There are 5 picnic shelter pavilions with charcoal grills. Towards the back of the park, there is a wooded area with established trees and shaded picnic areas. -- The Gardens -- This park is ideal for strolls to take in nature. There is the peaceful, small yet beautiful Japanese Garden. Outside the garden, there is a wooded area with a variety of trees and flowering bushes with winding walking paths. Within the main part of the park, cherry blossom trees line part of the perimeter of a partially shaded walking path. -- Recreation -- There is a multi-use, open field in the center of the park. There is sand volleyball, basketball hoops, and tennis courts. -- Dog Park -- The dog park has plenty of room for pups to run and is in full sun. We frequented this dog park for 7 years and never experienced any issues. -- Amenities -- Restroom facilities are available. This park is a great option for a longer visit. read more

Y'all gotta go here a week or so before the Cherry Blossom festival! It's less crowded and you all can get a photoshoot going on during the early week of April! This is a nice LARGE park for gatherings, events, and festival. Highly recommend. People are friendly and there are not just one, but two dog parks!!! read more

We enjoyed the dog park. It was large and there were many dogs there having a blast. All dogs are mixed in one area. There are walking trails running around the park. No charge for dog park entry. Location is conveniently situated in vb. The trial we walked was relaxing and not very challenging. Will definitely return for more adventures! read more

Nice park to bring the kids to. Came here for the cherry blossoms. They were already falling but they still were pretty! At the end of the walk there's a tennis court, and a children's playground. They have pavilions, good for gathering. They also have a huge field good for sport activities and just for the kids to run around and have fun. I love this park. A little hideaway in the crazy of va beach. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom right now. Its the perfect time to check it out if you havent been there yet. Red Wing Park is a nice park to visit and is basically around the corner for me. It is located just off of General Booth Blvd. between Dam Neck Rd. and Oceana Blvd. Once you come in. there's a first set of parking there next to the Miyazaki Japanese Gardens. There's a good amount of shaded parking there. After you've parked, you can then explore this great park. The first thing to do if you parked at the entrance is to visit the Miyazaki Japanese Gardens. It's a beautiful shaded area of the park. After visiting this part of the park, you can take advantage the other things the park has to offer. There are plenty of places here to walk around and explore. After you pass the gardens, you will see there's a bunch of open space to do what you want out there. There's also a second parking area a little to the right after passing the first one. That parking area will get you close to one of the playgrounds, as well as an outdoor dog park. I haven't brought my dog here yet, but you'll want to make sure that they have their proper license and rabies vaccination. They could be denied entry into the dog park without it. Going further down, I like walking under the tree canopy when walking towards the back of the park. It's shaded and just a great view in general. There's also a POW memorial here. As you make your way further to the back, there's a set of tennis courts where you can play as well. Just past that you'll find another playground area, along with additional parking to the right. If you park back here, not only are you close to the park, there's also a few trails that you can explore as well. The park also has a few covered picnic areas for individuals or groups, big or small. They cover just about everything, especially since grills are available there as well for cooking if you are so inclined to do so there. There's also a set of restrooms on the premises if needed. There's staff there every time I've been there. This park is kept up well and you don't see trash all over the place, like you can see in some parks. Over the past few weeks, the park has been busier than I have seen. I think this has to do with the new Pokemon Go game that's out there. There are about 15-20 different Pokestops in this park. If you're playing this game and looking for some Pokestops, this is a good spot to look for them. It hasn't been overly crowded when I've been there too since the game came out, so you shouldn't have to worry about running over each other trying to catch them all. Overall, this is a great park to visit. If you want to get out there and just escape from everyday stresses for a while, this is a great place to do that. This is the place to come to park it for a while and unwind. read more

I love being a member of this dog park. So many friendly dog owners...park pass should only be about 30$ for the year so not bad for a year of access. Make sure your puppies are up to date on their shots and a good with other dogs...overly aggressive dogs will be kicked out. Be respectful and clean up after your pooch too! read more

Review #075 - 2018 Those who know me, knows that I'm a real sucker for pretty flowers, especially gardens of any type. So when my girlfriend who lives in Virginia Beach, told me that she would take me to a park with lots of cherry blossoms, I definitely did not hesitate to take her up on that offer. We showed up around 3:15 PM on a Wednesday afternoon and there weren't too many people around so we were able to get some decent photos. Unfortunately, it started raining about 15 minutes after we started walking around so we had to run back to car. The park is very nice, the cherry blossoms are definitely the highlights of the show, but there's also a small Japanese garden with a small koi pond. There's also a small children's playground right next to the parking lot. They even have a tennis court. Too bad we couldn't stay a little longer so the baby could at least play around at the playground. read more

So it's about a 30min drive for me but I enjoyed it. It's a sharp left turn so make sure you're paying attention, pulling into the park it's a two-way street and it's tight, the fenced-in the park is the first right...There were so many dogs just ready to play. My pup was sooo happy and excited. All the owners were nice and that's really big for me because I have a female Pitbull so people can be jerks. The gated areas don't have much grass so a bath will be needed but the areas have plenty of room for the dogs to run free and it's very clean with sitting area for the parents. Some of the regulars informed me the water is turned off during the winter so make sure you bring some and maybe a bowl. The park itself has some type of garden I didn't go lol and a big field for like kids to play or maybe even a picnic, also there is a playground. read more

This place is absolutely gorgeous! In late March or early April their beautiful cherry blossom trees and many other beautiful trees and plants are in bloom. It smells lovely in their fragrance garden. This place is like a lucid, fanciful dream. My husband and I walked our dogs there not too long ago and we were in awe. You should come give this place a try. Remember there is limited access for dogs, so maybe take them the second time around so you can get the full experience. read more

A very calm park. Has a mini Japanese Garden, a forest, dog park, and open field to walk through. During the spring, the cherry blossom trees bloom and it is a beautiful site to see. There is a tennis court and a basketball court. Great place to relax and have a picnic. The open field is very wide open, that you can fly a drone here. Part of the park has a no flying zone for drone users, but the open space is sufficient to fly in. The park is open until sunset. So depending on the time of year, the park will close later during the summer or earlier during the winter. read more

My girlfriend Adriana an her kids decided to take our DOG JAXON to some local parks around the area, so we came across this park, I like this park approaching the little Gem out of other parks , coming from Florida you only have a few parks that are maintained, this one however they keep it clean as well as the dog park, at this park JAXON can run around and socialize with other dogs or dog moms an dog dads too he has the freedom to do so. My boy jaxon is always happy to go to any park an play they have doggie bags right in the fenced in area which is nice so you can clean up after your little pooch, they also have a water fountain for the dogs to drink from. It's a clean park with that being said you have two options you can go on two sides of the fenced in areas which one side is for the bigger dogs on the right or have another option for the smaller dogs on the left. The dogs have toys to play with or you can bring your own too. I like this park too because you have the option to go deeper into the park an have a picnic under the trees or even relax on the benches with a top coverings that are provided their as well as trash receptacles located throughout the park. Or you can even watch other animals like squirrels an different types of birds too. They also have walking areas you can walk around a path if you feel the need to experience some outdoor also a playground if you have the kids with you as well. It's a nice atmosphere an open to the public which I like. I give this rating a 5 star! read more

This is an amazing park with great walking trails and playgrounds. My daughter loves to play there and my dog loves the trails. It is a very well maintained park with beautiful flower gardens. My only issue is the rules are not followed at the dog park at all. There are big dogs in the small dog park and on several occasions I have witness truly aggressive dogs attacking other dog. The dog park is not monitored very well at all. I usually just walk my dog around the park so it doesn't really matter to me but it should be watched a little closer. read more

Walk in the park.... I believe Red Wing Park is another one of VB's hidden gems. There is a lot to do here and will not disappoint. Pack the car and the dogs and head out! I love that they have a dog park here that is close enough to my house. Cali my Bassett hound loves the interaction from both people and dogs alike. She's kinda a big deal here. JK. There are "poop" bags and water provided for the dogs. Covered benches for those sunny/hot days. Rabies shots and a city license is a must to enter but that is for everyone's safety. And for heavens sake if your dog is an asshole don't bring them here! We don't want no drama. There are a ton of walking trails lined with beautiful flowers and shrubbery. This is a second option if you can't get into dog park. There are two children's playgrounds, a tennis court, restrooms and covered picnic areas with grills. Okay it's story time: one day I was walking the pup on one of the back trials and let him off the leash. He was ended up rolling in human feces ( I am assuming it was one of the homeless people that frequent the park) This was completely my fault but none the less disgusting. LESSON LEARNED. read more
