After church picnic on a cooler August Sunday afternoon. A paved walk path swirls from the generous parking lot through green space and trees; leads to all public park facets: two adjoined covered seating areas, a playground with swings and jungle gym, basketball courts, gender specific restrooms, vending machines, and the park office. Thought it was neat seeing an AED on premises! People were friendly, most we already knew from church though. Outdoor spaces were clean, not counting the goose turds scattered on the grass like lawn mines. Restrooms were acceptable, not too bad for a public park. A pleasant site for families, couples, singles of all ages.

This is the smaller of the two playgrounds. This is on the western part of the park. Photo taken May 13, 2018.

City View Park is located along Kempsville Rd. and is not too far from the Chesapeake city line. The park is fairly easy to get in and out of since there is a traffic light at one of the entrances. There is an ample amount of parking available, but could get tight if there were games or tournaments being held there. The park was very clean and well maintained. My most recent visit to this park was on May 13, 2018. My seven year old niece was with me and wanted to go to a park, so we decided to come to this park, though it had been a while since I had been there. The first spot we ended up was at the main playground at the eastern side of the park. She was quick to play with the stuff on the playground, but after a while, she wasn't as engaged. The playground wasn't overly big, and seemed to be a bit too small for her now. Since there was a second playground, we went over there to check the other one out at the western side of the park, but that was was even smaller and seemed to be for an even younger audience. After visiting for a while, we decided to visit another park, which we did. Aside from the playground, there are other things available at the park. There are several basketball courts, shelters with charcoal grills, a volleyball court, a main building with vending and restrooms, many fields for sports tournaments, and a very nice walking trail (which can also be used on bikes as well). Overall, this is a very nice park. However, if you have older children that want to play at a playground, you may want to look for a different location instead. Otherwise, there is quite a bit to do here. If you have some younger kids that want to play at a playground, or want to walk a nice easy trail, this is definitely a good place to do it. This park is definitely worth visiting if your travels take you this way.

City View Park is large enough to earn its name. The two playgrounds have plenty of trees for natural shade. Its meadow is large enough for a soccer field. There's also a trail through the woods for walking. Bicycling through the path is not recommended due to the sign that warns of rough path.

We have attended several birthday parties at this park and will pop in if in the area. It is located on the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach border off Kempsville Rd. in Virginia Beach. It is a large park with amenities that families desire in a place to recreate. The signage is good for the park and there are two access points to enter. In the East it's ball parks and West it 's general parking. I have never had issue with parking even on busy weekends. However, I have never been at the park during multi games on the ball field. I don't consider the park to be as attractive as others in the city, although it is very clean.. To me it just does not have the appealing aesthetics others do . That does not mean it's not a solid park. They have four softball fields and a basketball court with eight hoops. Two playgrounds located a distance from each other. Horseshoes, volleyball pit. and a walking trail. Also a huge multi purpose field. Not to mention several shelters. Very important are public restrooms, especially for grounds this large. It has them and they are open during park hours. I believe this is the only building on the grounds, so not hard to locate. On my most recent visit I found the facilities super clean. If it rains a lot expect it to begin to have areas of pooling water. In my case it had rained the night before and was raining some the next day. It was so puddled up the picnic area could not be used. Virginia Beach is known for it's awesome parks. Although City View may not be my favorite in the city it definitely has a lot to offer.

The new playground. Love the rubber ground

This is easily my favorite park in VB. Barely my second time here and I like how there's two playgrounds here. First time was at the old er playground..lots of shade, a big shaded picnic area, and lots of picnic tables. The ground i believe is wood chips. The new one is much bigger, has rubber ground and swings that little kids can actually get on themselves. I love the shade in the late afternoon/early evening. There are people walking/running all over the grounds and one of these days i will have to check it out or even bring a bike. Thank you VB for providing these nice parks for :)

City View Park is a pretty nice park on Kempsville Rd. just before you enter Chesapeake. There are a couple playgrounds, swings, baseball fields, basketball courts, paved and rough trails with benches, a large covered picnic shelter, uncovered picnic tables throughout the park, an area for horseshoes, and a volleyball court with no net. There is a nice bathroom facility over by the baseball fields and there is a separate playground between the baseball fields. The park is very well kept and clean. You can reserve the picnic shelter and I posted a photo of the shelter guidelines. It's not as big as Mt. Trashmore, but it's typically less crowded and definitely worth checking out.

This park is such a great park to go for a walk or jog. Pets are welcomed. There are nice nature trails. The trails are not too long or too short. The playground for kids are also nice to have too.

I am a big kid at heart and I just loved dinosaurs and dragons and reptiles as a kid so I knew I'd be coming back asap!! This is only about 15 minutes from the courthouse area of Virginia Beach and worth the expedition Even after closing hours for the museum this front park stays open. I did not see any specific signs stating closed at sunset or what not There was a sign saying free admission and please do not climb on the Dino's I soon saw why (No I did not climb and fall) but they are mostly made of metal and steel I think some are more sturdy but some have rust and you can see they are wearing down and you may end up with tetanus if you get cut hahaha But this place is so cool some are bigger than others and there is even a wooly mammoth and a saber tooth tiger In the front there is a lil free library but it was very skimp so if you do visit bring some donations to add This would be an awesome spot for a picnic or even a cool photo shoot

It's not really a parking lot, but a small area in the grass. It's in front of the Military Aviation Museum. It doesn't cost anything to enter the dinosaur park, which is great. We got out a there were several different dinosaur displays. We took advantage of this kid friendly freebie and took lots of pics. The grounds weren't really taken care of. So it was grass and weeds growing around some of the displays. Now that it's cold I'm fine, but if it were summer I'd be terrified of seeing a snake, because there are bushes everywhere. So hopefully during warmer seasons they maintain the area a little better. But I still enjoyed it. There's also a pond also, which was nice!! Just a quick fun little adventure!! Check them out!!

Only portapotty available for bathroom facilities which I guess is normal for the smaller parks in the area. The path is clean and nice but there are bicycles and other wheeled vehicles sharing the walking path. There were birds using the lake but I didn't see any sign of any fish or life in the lake so I am not sure if there are fish or anything else in the lake. I went to the right to start my walk and I am not sure if that was the wrong way but it seemed everyone was going the other way or it was just that I didn't catch up to anyone ahead of me so it looked like I was the only one walking my way. I took my walk on a supposed warm day but the weather changed and it was a little cold so I had to walk a little quicker than expected. There were people jogging the path, walking their dogs, and just sitting by the lake. There are lots of wooden pierlike structures that get you close to the water but like I said before, no signs of fish as far as I could see.

The meters cost about $2/ hour and the lots vary in price. There is a restroom facility right across the boardwalk from it, which is a plus. This play park is the epitome of accesible parks. It is titled the "Park for Everybody". The amazing park/play area is 15,000 square feet and features wheelchair accessible entrances. It was built in honor of Josh Thompson, an avid beach lover, who lost his battle with ALS. Josh's family wanted to go to the beach, but he stayed behind because of the difficulty of getting his wheelchair to the beach, across the sand and down to the surf. The park is very nice and has a huge jungle gym with a couple of slides, a sculptural of a dolphins, a surfboard, and a wave that children can play on, raised sand tables for sandcastle building at an accessible height, a sensory board for autistic children, Sway Fun glider, and a pebble walk. What I find really cool is that they have fully accessible playground -beach wheelchairs available at no charge, on a first come, first served basis (only during season though). You will also find some cement pads here, with post marking the spots, that are covered with a little sand, making playing in the sand more accessible. Just outside of the park is a nice statue of a man and young boy holding surf boards. The sculpture is on top of a granite base that has the names of donors and the inspiration behind the park inscribed on it. Definitely worth a look. This first of its kind park is a very nice addition to VIrginia Beach's Boardwalk. It is accessible and fun for all kids to play on. They do suggest that it is best for kids aged 5 to 12. I love everything about this park. There should be more of these around.

It has a playground, raised sand trays, and sculptures kids can play on and take photo opps with. It is also an accessible park. The park is very clean overall. -- The Playground -- The playground area with soft foam flooring to minimize injuries (under the sand that got blown over it) is best for younger elementary school aged children. With close supervision it's also good for younger children (note that there are small gaps in the openings along the playground system). The equipment is in mostly good condition with small areas of wear. There are a variety of slides and ways to climb up and access the slides, along with monkey bars and climbing activities. There are also raised, connected walkways connecting the system of slides and a lookout point. The playground is in partial sun with some sections fully shaded by canopies (pictured). -- Benches & Pavilions -- There is one built in table with benches by the front of the playground. There are several benches along the perimeter of the playground. -- Walking Areas -- This is less of a park and more of a large playground situated on a beach. -- Sporting Equipment -- There are no other equipment options other than the playground. -- Amenities -- There are no toilet amenities at the playground, but there are restrooms with plumbing located very close by: 2nd Street Restrooms, which has year-round operation and is managed by the City. -- Parking -- There is a municipal parking lot close by--2nd Street Parking Lot--where any visitors can park for a fee. The next closest lot is Rudee Loop Parking Lot (also a municipal parking lot with a fee). Both are located on Atlantic Ave. There is limited meter parking, too. Visitors to the area staying at the Oceanfront could also walk there. -- Things to Note -- During peak seasonal times, it's usually pretty busy with kids. There is no fence or physical boundary between the park and the water, but it is situated well enough away from the water that it didn't pose an immediate safety concern. -- Takeaways -- This is an large, accessible playground that is a nice option for my toddler when we visit the Boardwalk, and I can see it appealing to families visiting the beach who have kids with varying interests. The main attraction is its playground. If you are at the Boardwalk, it's worth a visit for children. It might not be worth it to you to go out of your way if you don't intend to visit the ocean or Boardwalk, too, or if you aren't interested in its accessibility features. Simply because paying for parking at the Oceanfront and sand in the kids shoes' could be a few minor drawbacks.
