She never knew it existed, so we of course had to make an impromptu stop! Like others have mentioned it's free and even if the Aviation Museum is closed you can still visit Jerrasic Park because it's right outside the gates. It's called Jerrasic Park after the owner Jerry (Gerald) Yagen, an aviation pilot. He started aviation schools that are the world's largest trainer of FAA licensed aircraft technicians with schools coast to coast. Those campuses are under the names Centura College and Aviation Institute of Maintenance. He is also the owner/founder of the Aviation Museum, which are his own personal collection of WW I & II planes. The metal dinosaurs were created by the artist Gilbert Ramos. The creato of many popular custom outdoor metal sculptures and garden art in Southern California. He has been creating his unique sculptures since 1997. *It's a small free park with metal sculpture dinosaurs. It's cool to check out and take fun pics with the dinos. If you go online or visit the Aviation Museum, they used to do a scavenger hunt where if you find the items you can take your sheet to the front desk of the Aviation for a little prize. Not sure if they still do that. It worth checking out if you're over in Pungo but I would not make a trip out just for the park. It will easily take you 15 minutes to go through. There is a little area in the trees across the street to park.

It's not really a parking lot, but a small area in the grass. It's in front of the Military Aviation Museum. It doesn't cost anything to enter the dinosaur park, which is great. We got out a there were several different dinosaur displays. We took advantage of this kid friendly freebie and took lots of pics. The grounds weren't really taken care of. So it was grass and weeds growing around some of the displays. Now that it's cold I'm fine, but if it were summer I'd be terrified of seeing a snake, because there are bushes everywhere. So hopefully during warmer seasons they maintain the area a little better. But I still enjoyed it. There's also a pond also, which was nice!! Just a quick fun little adventure!! Check them out!!

Inside the park there are small water fountains, a small wooden red bridge, a stone bridge and some cherry trees. The park was clean and very well maintained The walkway of the park is a loop. At the far end of the park there was a Japanese style shack and a wooden gate. The shack had benches to seat and was ideal to take a break from the summer heat. Overall it was a really well curated Japanese themed park, good to spend about half an hour or so.

Grommet Island Park is a well-frequented, moderate to large playground located at the VB Oceanfront…read moreat the start of the Boardwalk. It has a playground, raised sand trays, and sculptures kids can play on and take photo opps with. It is also an accessible park. The park is very clean overall. -- The Playground -- The playground area with soft foam flooring to minimize injuries (under the sand that got blown over it) is best for younger elementary school aged children. With close supervision it's also good for younger children (note that there are small gaps in the openings along the playground system). The equipment is in mostly good condition with small areas of wear. There are a variety of slides and ways to climb up and access the slides, along with monkey bars and climbing activities. There are also raised, connected walkways connecting the system of slides and a lookout point. The playground is in partial sun with some sections fully shaded by canopies (pictured). -- Benches & Pavilions -- There is one built in table with benches by the front of the playground. There are several benches along the perimeter of the playground. -- Walking Areas -- This is less of a park and more of a large playground situated on a beach. -- Sporting Equipment -- There are no other equipment options other than the playground. -- Amenities -- There are no toilet amenities at the playground, but there are restrooms with plumbing located very close by: 2nd Street Restrooms, which has year-round operation and is managed by the City. -- Parking -- There is a municipal parking lot close by--2nd Street Parking Lot--where any visitors can park for a fee. The next closest lot is Rudee Loop Parking Lot (also a municipal parking lot with a fee). Both are located on Atlantic Ave. There is limited meter parking, too. Visitors to the area staying at the Oceanfront could also walk there. -- Things to Note -- During peak seasonal times, it's usually pretty busy with kids. There is no fence or physical boundary between the park and the water, but it is situated well enough away from the water that it didn't pose an immediate safety concern. -- Takeaways -- This is an large, accessible playground that is a nice option for my toddler when we visit the Boardwalk, and I can see it appealing to families visiting the beach who have kids with varying interests. The main attraction is its playground. If you are at the Boardwalk, it's worth a visit for children. It might not be worth it to you to go out of your way if you don't intend to visit the ocean or Boardwalk, too, or if you aren't interested in its accessibility features. Simply because paying for parking at the Oceanfront and sand in the kids shoes' could be a few minor drawbacks.

The park also has a decent amount of parking although there were not too many people in the park during my visit. Also, the park/trails were pretty maintained with plenty of markers to keep you going in the right direction. While the park is nice, I probably would not go too far out of my way (30+ minutes by car) to visit unless I want to take advantage of the kayaking/paddle boating opportunities.

Every spring they gave the cherry blossom festival. And every year it gets better and better. They did a grand Illumination this year and it was stunning. It was a whole experience. I could've sworn I've reviewed RWP before... but, apparently not!…read more As someone who used to live in Red Mill area, I visited here a few times over the years and think that the cute little Japanese garden area is adorable. Smaller parking lot but there is far more parking in the back area by the golf course. It's famous for the two weekends a year in spring during the Cherry Blossom Festival hosted here. Alas, the lines to pull in are SO long, I have avoided it and never seen it in action - though, it's on the bucket list for some day. It's cute and small, and worth a visit if you're in the area, but it's nothing to make a trip across town solely for under normal circumstances.
