Hello Toast! I hear that I think BREAKFAST!! Or maybe late breakfast! Not been here for lunch so I can't comment on that! The staff isn't the friendliest and sometimes it's hard to get their attention. I do agree with another reviewer that they are understaffed - but I think it's a family restaurant and there's no more family to work there?! Hire someone!! (It would make you a 5 especially if you guys were a little friendlier). The scantily clad young lady should probably invest in higher neck shirts. I do love the décor and it's totally a cool little place to eat. The tables are very close together so they can cram as many in as they can, they do have counter service where you can sit like a diner, and they have outside seating, which in my opinion is more private that inside! The tables for 2 are very VERY small. Barely room for two plates, coffee, tea and their condiments. We've been here a number of times and it's taken me until now to rate this place. It's ALMOST a 5 but not quite. Service is the main downfall. Sorry! 8( The food is great. It's consistently great. I try and order something different each time we're there, but my fav is Green Eggs and Ham OR any of the Benny's. Between hubby and I we've tried each others meals and it's all been fairly good. This is a fantastic little spot. Delicious food. Good atmosphere. That charming little independently run place everyone wants to eat breakfast at. I eat here every time I'm in Kamloops on work and anytime a co-worker with me out here asks where to go for breakfast, I tell them they have to go to Hello Toast. The food & service are exceptional. You always get your delicious free range eggs the way you order them. I can recommend any of the toasted Bennies or green eggs and ham. I also have to mention that they were extremely accommodating to my 8 month old daughter. Making sure she was comfortable in her high chair placing a blanket behind her, bringing her a couple of toys and a sippy cup. Great job ladies. Everything was top shelf - awesome. My only complaint is they need a bigger location because it's always so busy! Even on a Tuesday morning! Great food, decent prices, usually fast service unless they are lined out to the road, but I'm okay with that if you'd notice there are only 3 servers. WARNING - Allergies If your child has any allergy to nuts, take them here at your own risk. We sit down and as we order my cousin informs the waitress that he has a severe nut allergy(this doesn't just mean peanuts). We get our food, eat and he has a reaction. Now I understand when you eat out there is a potential risk for cross contamination, no one is perfect, but when I am writing about is the total lake of responsibility taken by the waitress or the manager. When the waitress was informed of the situation, she said "The kitchen staff is pretty good about this stuff"...basically went about her business as if it didn't really matter. I later go into the restaurant to speak to the manager to inform her of the situation and she replied with the same "Oh, we don't have peanuts here", basically just trying to be as distant from the situation as possible. The apparent lack of care for someone who had an allergic reaction that could have been life threatening if we had been farther away from a hospital was appalling. Final note, at the hospital, the nurse informed us that they see numerous patients coming from Hello Toast that have had allergic reactions. I won't be returning. read more

We went for V-day breakfast. The woman I'm assuming was the owner was very patient in taking our order and answering all of our questions as we tried to find the best vegan options, and explained the mistake on the menu on the burger marked as vegan, the sauce is actually dairy based. Most of the breakfasts had eggs, so we settled on the burger and decided to split it since 8 am is early for an entire burger. We ordered it without the sauce, and it was stacked and yummy. The coffee was also good, as was the salad and roasted potatoes that came with the burger. My only complaint is the price, we paid $14.50 for a burger that didn't even have meat on it...but I guess you get what you pay for! Quality food comes with a hefty price sometimes. read more

Very accommodating for a large group like us who only had an hour to eat before catching the guided tour at the Heritage Railway Society. Breakfast was great. Ingredient was definitely better than those big name, multiple location restaurants. I never liked the hash browns that come with traditional breakfast for they were always too greasy. But at Hello Toast, I was surprised that I ate everything. Literally licked my plate clean at a very tight time window. Kamloops' classic. The only downside is that I really have no idea how good most of their menu is because I always order the same thing - either eggs benny or the bird's nest! I have had some of their lunch specials which were very solid, though they were using such quality ingredients the price was a tad hefty... And of course, it is popular, so there's usually a bit of a wait, but on the plus side, families needn't feel guilty bringing little ones as it's noisy enough no one notices if they're bit noisy or fussy! Customer service fail. As many probably know, this establishment is quite busy on a weekend. We'd never been there before, showed up on a Saturday morning, noticed that there were several people / groups waiting inside, and so we spoke with a waitress / host, who said it would probably be 10-15 minutes, and then we waited outside. After several groups had left, we moved inside, and along with several other groups, formed a line to wait for a free table. (Several tables were empty, but unbussed). While we waited, a man bypassed the line and sat himself at a table. One of our group approached the man and told him there was a line. He responded that there was no sign indicating that he needed to wait, and a waitress backed him up. Once word spread, a free-for-all for the empty tables ensued. If that's the deal, the hostess / waitress should be up-front about it, and there should be a sign indicating that this is the case. (Though, to be honest - had we been informed that "land-grab" was the system, we wouldn't have waited at all). We grabbed a table, but after that experience, concluded that we should dine elsewhere & left, and we won't be coming back. read more
