We finally made it to Hello Hilo when I was looking for someplace my grandkids (12 & 14) would approve of. We and they LOVED it! Even my picky eater granddaughter declared the food great. They loved the outdoor grassy area with the games and swinging chairs. We were there in the evening so the neon lights added to the wonderful Hawaiian ambiance which we all loved also. You can sit on the large covered patio and the kids can run and play right next to you and be well entertained. Perfect for families or moms who want to meet-up and visit while the kids play. It is hard to find a restaurant with those qualifications. There is plenty of indoor seating also. And a special shout out to the employees! They went out of their way to explain the menu to us, let my granddaughter taste test, and even came outside to offer to take a group picture for us! Hello Hilo is doing well for their first few weeks of service. Their employees are kind and good at their jobs. I tried their fried chicken bowl, and the bed of garlic rice was really tasty. The chicken was good too. The lava noodle bowl is spicy, actually spicy, and the bulgogi on it is a bit salty but still pretty decent. Mochi donuts are wonderfully chewy, and I think the plain and chocolate are best. Main gripes would be the portions and parking. The chicken bowl was the most disappointing, especially for the price point - half the bowl felt empty. Was this just an error? It seems like it's not, since others also mention the small portions for the price of the food. Parking is a mess, both the lots and the drive through. I love Hawaii and this is probably the closest Hawaii can be in Atlanta. We stopped by after a hike to Talluah Gorge and it is the cutest, cleanest, aloha spirited place I've been to in GA. First it is super kid friendly, causal atmosphere, giant enclosed space for kiddos to run and feel the Hawaiian vibes. Second the food, lots of rice bowls, sandwiches option. We opted for the hello Hilo bowl they gave us a taste of everything (kalua pork, Hulu Hulu chicken and crispy chicken) rice bowl with Mac salad and mango salad. Perfectly seasoned and very decent portions. We also tried their fried chicken sandwich, the chicken is perfect with the buns and toppings. The kids menu had grilled cheese or chicken nuggets with a side, we opted for chicken nuggets and Hawaiian fried rice. For the sake of determining if I'd go back I also got their teriyaki longo sandwich. Everything was delicious in my opinion, I will note the Mac salad isn't as sweet as you would have in Hawaii it was quite refreshing. We also tried the hula pinapple float and Hawaiian lemonade, both were too sweet for me, but that's a personal preference. Now the real reason that motivated me to come was the malasadas.... And they do not disappoint. Best and only in GA. Staff and service is fast. I might mention they have a giant drive through line. One note to consider, the parking lot is a bit small. My wife also thought the rice had WAY too much garlic and wished there was a plain rice option. But all the other fruit and ingredients were tasty. But it just didn't rock my world. It's about a 10 mile drive from our home and we generally agreed that it would not be worth driving over here just to eat here. The PO system doesn't not work half the time, and they do not have their full menu available which is fine but instead of having workers standing around doing nothing, have them tell you about their menu before so you're not holding up the line when trying yo order things they simply do not have. Which would cut the drive thur time in half. The chicken sandwich wasn't even cooked and the noodles I had were so spicy I couldn't eat it all.
