Hello Hilo now open in Gainesville. You can tell their staff was trained very well because although it is their first day (other than their soft opening), they: 1. Treat you kindly 2. Wipe tables clean as soon as people leave 3. Hold doors open for you 4. Got my large order all correct 5. Food was fresh and didn't take too long The environment is great as they play music and they help you forget you're in Gainesville. They have bowls (rice, noodle, etc), sliders with Hawaiian rolls, chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets on a stick with great sauce. They have a Bakery area with donuts and cakes and let me tell you.... their donuts are SO good. Everything was delicious and honestly... just nice looking. They even have a drive thru in case you don't want to deal with the inside. Hello Hilo did an excellent job with this place!! I hope they can keep this momentum up. Edit: I think they've made a mistake with how little parking the built.... friends and family have tried to go several times and there is ZERO parking available, very frustrating. The place is huge but the parking lot is like a puzzle with not many spots, definitely a failure on their part with planning. This place had an amazing atmosphere with outside activities that are great for kids and groups of friends. The entrance itself is beautiful and welcoming. The food was amazing. I can't remember the names, but the bowls were so good. I think people forget that this is not american cusine and are used to huge amounts of portions, but this place gave the right amount to fill me up and have some space for desert after. Overall, it was amazing to sit in and out and remind me of when I went to the Big Island. They also have a drive-through, which is very convenient. The Huli Huli Tiki Chicken Skewer was so yummy, and the rice... just WOW. I loved it. My husband is a huge dole whip fan and he thought it was great. The pork slider was SO good too. I had the Lava Steak Bulgogi - think of a spicy Hawaiian version of Korean Bulgogi with kimchi. Both were huge and season just right. Mine could have used more kimchi but I would get it again. The wife thought mine was too spicy. I thought it was just right. We shared the spam musubi. If you like spam it's a must try. My only regret is that we do not have one closer to home because there was more we wanted to try! Was excited to try it! My family of 5 went and waited 40 minutes for the food. When our number was called they informed us that half our order couldn't be completed bc they ran out of that food, we'd already paid for it $77 dollars), So we ordered chicken sandwiches instead but after receiving them they were undercooked. So we left and nobody got to eat bc we were standing in line trying to figure out our order the whole time. Multiple people around us were having similar issues. Was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. I waited in line for another 20 minutes to ask for a refund bc nobody got to eat. Amazing! Everything we had was delicious. My husband had the hello Hilo bowl- it had a little bit of everything in it except the noodles & bulgogi. I had the crispy mochiko chicken- the favor on the chicken was insane. A little light heat. Slight lime flavor. Rice & veggies/ fruit add ons were delicious too. I'm more of a white chicken meat fan but having the mix of meat didn't bother me. Also tried the Hawaiian dole whip & a pineapple filled Malasada. I honestly wished we had ordered a ton of the Malasada's! They reminded us so much of Hawaii! We will definitely be back. The car line is a little slow but it's all fresh food & worth the wait. King's Hawaiian owned Hawaiian themed restaurant, there is a King's Hawaiian factory in Hall County, Georgia. They have a unique menu also serving donuts. An average meal is around $15 per person. The building is interesting and the staff helpful. Our food was good but it wasn't anything I couldn't get somewhere else cheaper and better (ham n cheese sliders, chicken sandwich). My sister and brother-in-law were in from out of state visiting, and they, my daughter, son-in-law, husband and I met at Hello Hilo for dinner. The young lady taking our order, Ashley, was slammed, but was so pleasant and polite. When our order was ready we were told the fries would be brought out shortly. And they were kidding! The fries came out in no time. When Ashley brought them out we thought we were one short but realized we weren't. Ashley brought out another one just to be sure! We were finishing our meal when she came to apologize for being so rushed and gave each of us cards for 20% off a breakfast order. The food was absolutely amazing! I LOVE the teriyaki sliders! The esthetics of this place were great. It felt very fresh, and fun. Love, love, love the old Hawaiian music playing upon walking up to the restaurant, and it smelt like Zippy's when I entered. Brought me right back home. I was born and raised in Mililani, Hawaii, so when I saw this restaurant open up, it was at the top of my list. I was very happy to see a lot of things on the menu that were true to Hawaii, like Li hing mui, Furukaki, mochi, huli huli chicken, but the flavors were so far from traditional, it was so disappointing. I ordered my kids the Mochiko chicken, and the Huli Huli chicken, both disappointing when held to the standard of authentic Mochiko and Huli Huli chicken. The chicken was tough. The Loco Moco was the biggest let down! First, frying the panko crusted hamburger took away from the nostalgic texture of the authentic loco moco tender beef patty, THEN the gravy tasted NOTHING like the gravy on a true loco moco from L&L, in fact, it had an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. The lomi tomato had cilantro. You don't find cilantro on Hawaiian food. The Hula whip looked and tasted like a cheap knock off of the Dole Whip, it tasted like artificial pineapple flavoring. I wanted to order the spam musubi, but for $5 I can buy a can of spam, and some Nori, and make 10 musubi's at home. The only thing I tried that I recommend, are the plain glazed Mochi donuts, and the dobash cake. This place would thrive so much more if they stayed true to the Hawaiian flavors and ingredients. My whole family has moved out here from Hawaii, and we miss the food so much. This place excited me, only to let me down. Take the potatoes out of the Mac salad, remove the cilantro from the lomi tomato, marinate your huli huli chicken, revise your loco moco gravy. Sell Hawaiian Sun, or Aloha drinks. Add custard to your Malasada fillings. Change your crinkle fries in the Hurricane fries to straight cut fries so the furukaki doesn't get lost in all that potato. Get rid of the drive through, You can't make Hawaiian food fast. Turn it into more outdoor seating with live Hawaiian music in the evenings. This place was not a great representation of Hawaiian food at all. Stay true to the Hawaiian flavors and ingredients and you can't go wrong. I hope this serves as constructive criticism, and that this place improves in the mentioned areas. You will have customers for life! Mahalo! read more

Finally made it this unique restaurant. I was hesitant based on the early reviews regarding high prices. After our first visit, I can't completely agree with that. While the slider options are expensive compared to what you get, I found everything else on the menu in line with similar restaurants. It's definitely a fun atmosphere and I noticed heaters outside for when the weather turns. It feels like a place you would be eating at on vacation. Overall, although the food was fresh, neither one of us really loved our entrees. It was ok, but nothing that wowed us. We may be back but probably won't be regulars. read more

First off the place has a great buzz, the folks at the door handing out Menus are the most helpful. The staff is buzzing like bees making sure everything is flowing and presenting properly. Now the food: While everything wasn't available on the menu, what I had was good. The portions are small for the money but the food was tasty but I think it's outta my budget. Y'all know I love me some good food and don't mind spending for it but in QSR field (quick service restaurants) I can't justify it unless my plate weighs 3 pounds.
