This place reminds me of me of some of the older bars in Northampton, Massachusetts. Hell and Blazes is place of wondering bar areas and rooms. They have their own brewery to make their beer with the tanks and machinery in full view through windows behind the bar. There is a huge beer menu that I'm sure any beer lover would like to try. Very comfortable sofa areas and interesting game room. Huge square bar in the main room. Very nice. We were there early Wednesday evening before it started to get busy. So leave it up to yelp and my mini-me to get me to go to downtown Melbourne on a weekend night. Christmas parties were in full glory but we were able to find a table. The food was pretty darn good for a gastropub. We ordered the pretzel stick appetizer and it was pretty good. I had a brisket grilled cheese sandwich.....very good and the mini-me had a pork sandwich. It would have been nice if the app came out first but it was a busy night. The staff was pretty attentive and the crowd started to turn a biut younger as time went on. The beers were hit and miss. Do not try the Dingleberry beer. The name should have warned me.....but hey I took a shot. They have a broad selection but definitely skewed toward the IPAs.....IBU rating on each beer.....most were pretty high....not a fan... Hell n Blazes Brewing Co.- Melbourne, FL- 3 Stars Located in a building on New Haven that dates back to 1898, and most recently housed a small boutique catering to the Christmas season and tourists, one finds our destination of the day, Hell n Blazes Brewing Co. After being dry for 241 days and with nary a mention of grub in the name, I have to say that I was a bit apprehensive about my next meal. Upon entering it was obvious that, name notwithstanding, this place was built as a brewery first, food service joint as an afterthought. Even with the emphasis put on the brewing aspect, the whole came off as a very friendly design and the place was stocked with an extremely outgoing and charming staff. With a full bar and at least nine freshly brewed beers on tap, my mouth was watering. Foregoing the inviting libations, I turned my attention to the job at hand. Perusing the menu, it came off as your typical pub fare with enough creativity thrown in to make it interesting. My waitress introduced herself as Sara, and while she had the appearance of a headliner at Lilith Fair, she is super knowledgeable on the menu and spot-on to the point of being a 4-star server all day long. I asked Sara for one Goat Burger (medium rare) and an order of their Mac and Cheese. Counting the minutes as I tried in vain to divert my eyes from the whispering beer taps, I soon saw Sara approaching with my order. As soon as she placed my food on the table, I graciously waved her off, snapped the obligatory pictures and dug in. The bun the burger was served on a perfectly toasted delicious Kaiser bun. The meat itself was hand-formed and cooked as ordered, the sad part was that the mushrooms were obviously pre-sliced. That doesn't mean they weren't fresh, just that they appeared to perfectly sliced to be sliced to order. I could be wrong, maybe the chef is that good. The onions were sauteed to a delightful caramelization and the accompanying Arugula added a nice bite to the aftertaste. All in all it was your average pub burger. The Mac and Cheese was an appealing spiral Mueller pasta, however, the dish itself came off as being melted in the microwave. The taste was fine, again, nothing spectacular, but far from the bottom of the barrel. As the items sampled were ordinary, I would be wary of venturing away from your typical burgers and brew here. Unfortunately kitchen staff decided to close early which caused one couple to leave next to me which was too bad. I've run kitchens before and it's too bad when people work in them that don't truly care about customer service. You chose your job after all... Great brewery around Melbourne. Went there for dinner and it was a little busy. They have a nice little beer garden at the side. We ordered a flight of beer and the Ringer burger. For the flight we got Autumn IPA, Andy Poppin Pils, Don't leave Me Amber, and Caribe Pineapple Cider. The best was the cider, it taste fully pineapple and you can't taste the alcohol. The cider will be nice if it's served in a pineapple with a little pineapples in it, this will make you drink a lot without noticing there is alcohol. The burger was great, cooked perfectly to medium. Overall, great brewery and will definitely come back for some cider. read more

5 stars for the beer, 4 stars for the service, 1 star for the food. Yielding a 2 star overall rating for the whole experience. Why do you say? First of all the beer. We shared a 4 pick flight of beer. Oktoberfest and Causeway IPA were MEMORABLE. The names of the other 2 escapes me, but they were VERY GOOD as well. Secondly the appetizer. We chose the Gator Bites ($15). The batter had a spicy zing, but was TOO SALTY in the end. The gator meat inside was chewy like BUBBLE GUM and a little hard to get down without a swig of beer. Last, the entrees. I was quite intrigued to see Pot Roast ($19) on the menu. The last time I had a great Pot Roast was when my Mother made it 40 years ago. The waitress said she heard many good things from other patrons about it. So I went for it. My friend went with the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16). When I dug into the Pot Roast, the meat was TOO LEAN and kind of tough and chewy. You need FAT in pot roast meat to make it juicy and tender. The porter sauce was TOO SALTY. I kept the waitress hopping refilling my water glass. The mashed potatoes and carrots were up to par, but unfortunately covered with the SALTY gravy. My friend didn't really have any compliments about her sandwich either. I am wondering if they make everything SO SALTY on purpose to get patrons to DRINK MORE BEER. Upscale bar food is a great and accurate description. The menu is diverse offering something for everyone. We had the crawfish cake and candies bacon appetizers. Both were well seasoned and cooked appropriately with an absence of grease in both cases. The crawfish cake portions we adequate for two and served on a bed of greens with a drizzle of sauce. The bacon while crispy was thick enough to yield a meaty consistency . For the main courses, we had a hamburger and a salad with grilled chicken. For me, a hamburger is the acid test for a restaurant and this one was flavorful, large, and served with mushrooms and goat cheese. (Our choice- other options are available). The salad was fresh with a good variety of mixed greens topped with a grilled chicken breast. The chicken was cooked perfectly - not dried out but juicy and tender. My one slightly negative comment was that the place was loud! The noise within the restaurant made it difficult to talk. Overall though, a winner and a place I'd recommend. read more

Tried calling early in week to see about reservations for a party of 30ish. My son was turning 23 and he wanted a place people could pop in and say happy birthday, eat, grab a drink, whatever. Was led to an online form to reserve the Vault Room. Received a message back that it was booked. No problem. Tried calling but again no recording to make reservations. Knowing the place is large and jammin, told my group to trickle in, we'd be seated separately, first come first serve. Some were only going for drinks at the bar, others with their whole families. Didn't asked for special treatment. Showed up and it went downhill from there. Staff was rude, told by manager Katie we should have called ahead. Reassured her we just wanted to be seated as tables became available. Told again we should have called, that they don't take reservations for parties of 15 or more. AGAIN, said we were separate, just seat per tab. Then a server told me (with many witnesses around) "You're not doing us any favors being here. Have you never been to a restaurant before?" To say I was shocked doesn't begin to explain. I said "Excuse me?" She rolled her eyes and said I should have called. Manager told the server to walk away. I was embarrassed and humiliated. Manager said she would try to work with us but she had to accommodate outside guests. I wondered if I was in the Twilight Zone. We were outside guests. Dumbfounded, I tried to understand where the confusion lied. She kept repeating that I should have called and that if we were sat at different tables we had to remain seated and not get up. Huh? At this point I wanted so desperately to leave but there was a handicapped person in our party in a wheelchair, here from England, and he had arrived early in the event the restaurant wasn't wheelchair accessible and his wife needed to carry him in. It was NOT ADA ACCESSIBLE. Knowing how he would feel if his wife had to carry him out in front of us, I opted to stay. Big mistake. .... 1. The Manager, Katie, said she would wait on all of us because she was sending the server home. However, 5 mins later the server delivered my cocktail and rolled her eyes at me. 2. My 10-year old was sitting 2 tables down from me with a family who also had a child. When he ordered his kids cheeseburger he was asked by Katie what tab he was on. He pointed over to me. I was then told that his meal would be delivered to me and I would have to in turn deliver it to him. Huh?? 3. That server, the one who was STILL WORKING, walked by and I asked her her name. She said "why?". I said it's customary in the restaurant business for a server to provide the customer with a name. She said "let's just put this whole experience behind us". I said "no, I will not be doing that. The way you spoke to me was inexcusable, condescending and offensive." She said "I validate your feelings". I said "Sweety, I don't need your validation, I need your name". Then she walked away. I have NEVER EVER left a negative review of a restaurant. I always give the benefit of the doubt. If I don't like the food or service I just don't re-visit. I've always like this place. I've been many times. But the way I was treated was ABSOLUTELY INEXCUSABLE. Don, there are 30+ people who will never visit your establishment again. And, on average, those 30 people will tell another 16 each for a total of at least 480 local people (plus some in England) who will most likely remember this everytime they pass your location. The treatment we received was disgusting and humiliating. At a time when people are so price conscience about eating out your staff should have done better. Shame on them. read more

More like Hair n' Blazes Sharing two experiences here. I'll start with the good... Went here the night prior with friends. This is definitely a great place to go for beers and drinks with friends. Great ambiance, friendly staff and good selection of drinks... However, the bad.. I don't recommend it for food (particularly brunch). Following day, I took my family here because of the previous good experience I had. We ordered the Gator benny and eggs and bacon from the kids menu. Never had a chance to try either because the scrambled eggs from the meal my kids picked had two long strands of hair cooked into the scrambled eggs. Should have taken a picture of it, but I immediately lost my appetite and politely left the establishment. Please look into adherence of the cooking staff of wearing the proper hair nets or gear. This is one of my faves in DTMB. Great beer, food and vibes. However, I've been coming here for 3 years and can't understand how the Guest WiFi NEVER works. When I ask the servers (every time) they say something similar: "yeah, it's sketchy but sometimes it works." I know this is silly to complain about but I get the feeling that the HnB management team may not be aware of this issue.
