George, who I believe is the owner, was extremely helpful and put my bike together when it arrived boxed up from the states. This is a fantastic bike shop, with a nice selection of bikes from cruisers to roadies to climbers. They also do repairs on bikes, for what seemed like reasonable prices to me. George told me he would have my bike finished within two days and I got a call 7hours later that it was ready, so not only are they reasonable but timely as well! If you are a novice cycler or a pro, West End Cycles is worth a visit!

Ok I could have possibly gone over something hard but i was road biking and on the road. This is a very good shop overall but on this occasion was disappointed. I got a new tyre at Magic Cycles at Bowling and even he said the tyre was frayed/damaged.

Yes I read and watch far too much disaster stuff and might be a bit of a worrier! Given that the dead are not currently roaming the streets and that society isn't crumbling we concentrated on looking for a warm winter coat for smudge. That said she'd still need to be warm in a nuclear winter, dual purpose shopping! They have a good selection of kids outdoorsy clothing and especially jackets and coats ranging from economical regatta ones right through to seriously spendy Berghaus ones. Thankfully she fell in love with a middle of the range Craghoppers one. It's waterproof, fleecy lined and has a great hood so the poor sausage is getting no lifts to school this winter. While we were there g found a long list of cycling gubbins that has now been added to his 'I need all this now' list and I found a really cozy warm winter coat that might be worth investing in given that a denim jacket is not really the most sensible bit of outerwear for a Scottish winter. Poor puff was the only one of us not really catered for but she'd has so much fun riding in the trolly and pulling things off the displays that I don't think she minded one bit. It has to be said that finding a member of staff in here is virtually impossible. Even when it comes to actually buying something and handing over your money you just can't find any staff. I left g to pay while I got the kids in the car. By the time he had payed I'd got both girls in and buckled, returned the trolley and checked the news app for any signs of a coming apocalypse, not somewhere to come if you are in a rush to leave town and head somewhere more remote and safe.

Camping and caravanning kit and accessories, climbing, canoeing, cycling, running and horse riding also feature. Now they represent every area well but aren't specialists into any area in particular. Shop with care. Watch out for their great bargains and if you are desperate for something reserve online and pickup in store. Staff are quite good. Some better than others but as an outdoor type I just want somebody who can find the size of shoes I'm looking for.

But the guys behind the counter are really friendly and made me feel very welcome as they explained the basics. If you are interested in buying then they will walk you through and they don't push a sale. Gear also sell all manner of bike accessories, from lights and helmets to pedals and pumps. If you ever find your bike in need of some love, they also offer bike repairs and tune-ups at a very reasonable price. Though because they are well known in the area you may have to wait a few days before it is ready. What I really love about the shop is the biker community vibe. They leave a pump outside the store for anyone to use and they have helped a friend of mine with his breaks for free. Gear also sell pocket cycle maps of where best to go for a bike ride in the city so if you pop by I highly recommend that you spend £5 on that little gem.

I didn't think this was asking for the moon really, but according to what was available in other Glasgow bike shops, it seemed that this was a big ask, without spending a fortune. That was, until we went to Dales. Dales are fantastic! They have a huge range of bikes, and we spotted one straight away that seemed as though it might be ideal. We were very quickly helped by Lynsday. She established exactly what I was looking for, what sort of cycling I'd be doing, and what sort of price range I had budgeted for. Lyndsay was clearly a bike enthusiastic, and knew her bike stuff inside out - we were very impressed at her knowledge, and her friendly and helpful manner. Once she'd established that our chosen bike was the right size, she let me go for a test ride. It was pouring with rain, so Lyndsay and Simon very sensibly stayed inside while I hurtled up and down the street for a very quick test ride. I didn't need any longer though - as soon as I got on the bike, I knew it was the one for me. Once we'd made the decision to buy, Lyndsay continued to be super helpful. She showed us mudguards, with more detail than I could have thought possible about mudguards, and the various pannier racks and pannier bags. We didn't feel hurried at any point, even though the shop was very busy, and were very happy with the options we chose. When I returned to collect my bike (they were building me a fresh out the box one and fixing on the various bits), Lynsday was there again to help, making sure I was totally happy and comfortable on the bike before riding it off into the sunset (rain). I'll be taking my new bike back to Dales for its 2 month service when it's due, and Simon was so impressed with the service that we received, that he'll be taking his bike in for a service too. The whole process of choosing, testing and buying a bike at Dales was very easy and actually enjoyable. I would recommend Dales first time every time to anyone looking to buy a bike.

The sheer range of rental options and very central location (right next to the landmark Ritz Cafe) make it a safe bet. However, I was a little put off by the vast assortment of childish t-shirts, pins, etc referencing a wide range of adolescent interests like pot smoking. Pot smoking is fine if that's what you're into, but only people under the age of 19 decorate their homes and selves with marijuana-emblazoned paraphernalia. It seemed very out of place for Millport and for a bike rental spot. Also, the conference bike is a tourist trap and a ripoff. Don't rent it. We were lured by the sheer silliness of it, but in the end it's extremely difficult to ride which sucks all the fun out of having it. Also, if you rent it for a twenty minute "fun run" it's £3, but if you rent it for an hour it's £30. That does not add up.

!!!Avoid dangerous bikes for hire!!! I hired a Silex bike…read morefor a gravel race. Initial communication and booking the bike was straightforward. Arrived at the shop to be presented with a bike covered dirt and with the drivetrain covered in mud/gunk. I was informed that I should give the bike a good checking over for frame damage as I will be charged for anything outwith a stone chip.......bit difficult to do given the bike was so dirty. I took the bike home and checked over the bike at the first available time which was the evening. After scraping the dirt of drivetrain and giving it a clean it was obvious at this point the bike had not seen any lubrication let alone a service in quite sometime. I should have called the shop in the morning but given that I was racing in the morning with friends I didn't want miss out and assumed that it was just a case of the shop being a bit busy to prepare the bike correctly. We started the race in the morning and all was well. After the first 20k the front brake started to fail, I had to pull the lever further and further back every time I had to break. After another 20k or so the brake was useless, even if I pulled the level to the bars it didn't do anything...........one final pull and the front caliper failed. Upon inspection the front pad was worn to the metal. The event mechanicals didn't carry spares (circular pads) and informed me that I could not continue the race and I was sent back to HQ..........it would be an understatement to say that I was disappointed. Took the bike back to the shop the next day where I explained my issues to the staff (Richie) and to my amazement I was met with nothing but obnoxious and belittling replies. As far as they were concerned the bike had left the shop in perfect working order and that was as far as their duty of care went. When I asked Richie when the pads were checked he commented "I don't need to tell you that", I ask him before hire bikes go out what checks do they go through, is there a checklist, etc they he replied "I don't need to tell you that, I'm satisfied the bike was checked". At this point he started to find the issue funny by commenting that his mum could do a better job at fixing the brake implying that there was no issue with the pads and that the two onsite event mechanicals who checked over the bike (and had shown me the worn pads) were wrong. When I replied if it was so easy to fix the brake perhaps he could fix it now to alleviate my concerns he replied "I don't need to do that for you". I finally asked Richie to pop out the front pads so that he could satisfy himself that they were fine and so that I could take a picture of their condition he replied "I don't need to do that for you". He was obviously concerned that I would share the images. All in all a thoroughly disgusting way to treat a customer who had expressed concerns about safety. At no point did I feel that they took my concerns seriously. If you value your safety I'd steer clear of Cyclelane.

I gladly said I'd wait, I turn up the following Monday expecting just to drop the bike off knowing it would be about a week before I would get it back. On my arrival I was told then that it wasn't possible as they had taken too many jobs on and had nowhere to keep the bike. Not exactly the service I was hoping for, as much as I'm sure the workmanship and value is good, I'd rather pay a bit more than use someone who just disregards my custom like that. I'm not sure why you agree to something and verbally confirm it is booked in just to have someone turn up and then tell them no. That's unacceptable in my opinion and I won't go back.

The app also shows you the nearest stations via GPS which are all over the City near to main points like sightseeing spots as well as train stations. The bikes are in a good condition with easy adjustable seat height. You pay the fee of £1 per 30 min rent over your account with debit or credit card. So... coat, scarf & hat on and start riding that bike! :-)
