Cotswold is without a doubt the best outdoor clothing emporium in the West End. I challenge anyone to find a better-stocked shop for this kind of stuff without going into town or farther out to the likes of Braehead or Clydebank. They're a bit of a younger upstart to the likes of Graham Tiso, and tend to favour the mid- to upper-end of the market with top brand names at premium prices - although they do often have discounted items so it's always worth a look. I find most of their clothing to be out of my price comfort zone (I'm more the Regatta end of the market), so I seldom do any serious shopping here. However I am a huge fan of their thermawear fleecy baffies (that's slippers to non-natives) in the winter, which cover up your ankles quite a way thus preventing draughts up the trouser leg. They don't last more than a season or two as they're more akin to heavy-duty socks really; but they're lightweight, comfy and good value. Sadly on this particular visit they didn't have them in stock; apparently it's still considered to be summer in Scotland - who knew? I shall have to return later. 150th review! read more

Nothing scabby about this place. This is the shop that you go for your outdoor gear when you decide it's time to get fit....you know, when you reach the time in life when your waist size and age appear to be rapidly accelerating at breakneck speed. Not quite an old persons shop, but certainly fluttering around the middle age, middle of the road " comfortable" salary earning bracket, Cotswold is a well stocked, well priced outdoor gear store staffed by knowledgeable friendly staff who are more than happy to give you the time of day as you ask them blatantly stupid questions " just how waterproof is this waterproof....can i wear it in the bath...if i fall in the ocean with a book in my pocket will it stay dry???" ,Anyway, just bought a wee set of reins for the child like wonder that is my daughter form here. Good price, good advice..." do not use to tie child up outside shops, do not use as a means of propelling oneself behind said child on a skateboard or roller blade's"....you know, the usual health and safety crap. Well, imminent social service visit inducing comments aside, this is a proper grown up outdoor store. Get your ass here if you need anything from jackets to child carriers....kick bottom...not of child, page 346 section 4 paragraph 9 of the European "Don't do that, it's just stupid" handbook. read more

I was in need of some durable walking shoes, because I have decided walking 2.6miles to work is more efficient and reliable than taking Citybus number 15. Cotswold has a decent selection of durable shoes. I know this place is more geared towards outdoor sporting attire, but with the schizophrenic weather in Scotland I think a durable hiking/trail-walking shoe is a good option for a daily walker. I ended up with a nice pair of Salomon's that was on sale, but I may have to go back and get the Gortex Merrell's too. The standard prices are a bit steep as with most brick and mortar stores these days, but if you need instant gratification it is worth it. I think I tried on every female shoe in the store looking for the right fit and my 'Shoeman', Jason, handled it in stride. He was also very knowledgeable and knows his international shoe sizes well! If you need anything outdoorsy Cotswold is a good place to start and definitely better than the store down the way. read more

An outdoor equipment emporium, this particular branch of Cotswold is located in Crow Road's West End retail park. With knowledgeable staff and an extremely relaxed atmosphere, it's a pleasant place for a scout around for half an hour or so, even if you've got no intentions of going hiking or climbing a mountain. I particularly like sinking into one of their immensely-satisfying armchairs with a book from their extensive travel guide section. Let's be straight... I'm a city girl, through and through. However, I do enjoy the great outdoors (sans seasonal allergies). I first wandered into Cotswold in search for a Sigg water bottle because Lumberjack kept jacking mine. I'm a big fan of Siggs, and am all for greener alternatives. When I walked into Cotswold, I was greeted by an overwhelming sense that I really didn't belong here. Go figure, I sauntered in wearing a dress... not exactly outdoorsy, I know. I politely asked one of the staff if they carried Siggs. He directed me up to the mezzanine level, where if felt like I struck gold. I sifted through all the Siggs to find the perfect one for Lumberjack. With Sigg adventures aside, Cotswold has pretty much everything for all your outdoorsy (or roughin' it) needs. From climbing, camping, winter sports, hiking, and backpacking... they have all the gear and apparel you need to conquer the great outdoors! The staff is most helpful and friendly. Seeing the display of sleeping bags hanging on the wall, I was tempted to crawl into one and pretend I was a caterpillar inches across the mezzanine... but common sense told me no. *sigh* They offer pretty good deals on various items throughout the year, like tents and apparel. I first visited Cotswold two years ago before I left for my trip backpacking around the world. At the time, I didn't know a rucksack from a poly bag but the staff were extremely knowledgeable and steered me in the right direction. I don't imagine you could get a job in here without having a lot of experience in the outdoors. The shop itself is massive with a mezzanine overhead. Whether you are planning to climb Kilimanjaro or camp in your backgarden, you should be able to find everything you need here. read more

This is a great outdoor shop and is handy if you dont want to venture into town. They have loads of stuff, from tents, to climbing equipment, to waterproof clothing in all the big brands. Whatever you need you should be able to find it there. I have bought a few things there and think their prices have been fair as I tend to check out the websites to see if I can get something cheaper elsewhere. One time I went in the staff must have been having an off day, but I was not in the mood myself and just wanted served. I could see 3 members of staff in the store, one may have been helping someone but the others were not, but did they come over when they saw someone was at the counter waiting to be served? No. I stood and stood looking around and trying to catch their eye but they avoided looking in my direction. I was so disgusted I actually ended up just walking out as I couldnt be bothered with it any more. (Was already in a bad mood though). So apart from the staff that time, a great store. read more
