But the guys behind the counter are really friendly and made me feel very welcome as they explained the basics. If you are interested in buying then they will walk you through and they don't push a sale. Gear also sell all manner of bike accessories, from lights and helmets to pedals and pumps. If you ever find your bike in need of some love, they also offer bike repairs and tune-ups at a very reasonable price. Though because they are well known in the area you may have to wait a few days before it is ready. What I really love about the shop is the biker community vibe. They leave a pump outside the store for anyone to use and they have helped a friend of mine with his breaks for free. Gear also sell pocket cycle maps of where best to go for a bike ride in the city so if you pop by I highly recommend that you spend £5 on that little gem.

Whether I have needed just a general service or whether I have brought my bike in because something just wasn't right, I have been very happy with the repairs. Only a few weeks ago, I took my bike in as my gears weren't shifting smoothly and my brakes seemed a bit stiff, since the repair and getting back out on my bike, its like a brand new bike! For a compact shop, there's a good selection of low to mid-range road & mountain bikes on display, as well as a plethora of accessories, clothing and helmets to browse, too, and what isn't in the shop can be ordered in. The real value of a local bike shop is the quality of customer service and after sales care, though, and it's here that Helensburgh Cycles truly shines. Alec & Alexis will take the time to offer advice on what's best for your bike or style of riding - often with a hot cup of tea to go with it. If you have a technical problem that Alec can't talk you through, "Just bring it in!" he'll say, and you can drop your bike off for some TLC. Alexis is great when it comes to sorting out the kids bikes - she treated my daughter like a princess when we went in to buy her first bike, which was built and collected a couple of hours later along with a free gift. Whether you're local to the area or just passing through on the way to a ride, it's well worth your while to pop in and stock up on spares or energy supplements before heading off on a ride. If you're going by car, turn up Maitland street and park off to the right, although you can park right outside the shop for drop-off and collection purposes.

The app also shows you the nearest stations via GPS which are all over the City near to main points like sightseeing spots as well as train stations. The bikes are in a good condition with easy adjustable seat height. You pay the fee of £1 per 30 min rent over your account with debit or credit card. So... coat, scarf & hat on and start riding that bike! :-)

Even though I'm pretty rubbish so far I've never been scoffed at or felt unwanted and park regulars have been happy to watch me ride and give little tips and tricks Staff are super friendly and chatty. Park is well maintained and foam pit is always open. At night there is no cafe to get snacks so bring snacks and drinks with you. Kit bags can be stored on the mum and dad benches right beside the track and I've always felt safe leaving my semi valuables in my bag there. Was particularly impressed tonight when a member of staff (Pete I think) challenged me to a shot in the foam pit. Me?!? Scary stuff! However I like to live by 'if it's not scary it's not fun' so I was game for a wee adrenaline buzz. Normally they would charge for personal tuition but this lovely man coached myself and two other adults into the pit. He even got a backflip out of one of us! Please give it a try if you're up for a laugh. BMX, scooters and skateboards can be rented from staff. Lessons can be booked if you feel really unsafe. You'll have a great time. Just remember a helmet - brains are important!

They claim the bikes are ready to ride but after purchasing one it came with it's chain unattached and missing nobs on the steering wheel tigtner. After returning the bike I was told I won't be given a replacement or an alternative and to take my custom elsewhere. All because I complained. This Krister Sandberg guy that works in sales has been in the job 30 years and thinks he is above everyone. Old fashioned and zero sales etiquette. DO NOT shop with them. I'd been searching for a bike for some time. I knew what I wanted - a ladies' frame hybrid, with…read morehydraulic disc brakes, suspension, and the space to fit mudguards and panniers. I didn't think this was asking for the moon really, but according to what was available in other Glasgow bike shops, it seemed that this was a big ask, without spending a fortune. That was, until we went to Dales. Dales are fantastic! They have a huge range of bikes, and we spotted one straight away that seemed as though it might be ideal. We were very quickly helped by Lynsday. She established exactly what I was looking for, what sort of cycling I'd be doing, and what sort of price range I had budgeted for. Lyndsay was clearly a bike enthusiastic, and knew her bike stuff inside out - we were very impressed at her knowledge, and her friendly and helpful manner. Once she'd established that our chosen bike was the right size, she let me go for a test ride. It was pouring with rain, so Lyndsay and Simon very sensibly stayed inside while I hurtled up and down the street for a very quick test ride. I didn't need any longer though - as soon as I got on the bike, I knew it was the one for me. Once we'd made the decision to buy, Lyndsay continued to be super helpful. She showed us mudguards, with more detail than I could have thought possible about mudguards, and the various pannier racks and pannier bags. We didn't feel hurried at any point, even though the shop was very busy, and were very happy with the options we chose. When I returned to collect my bike (they were building me a fresh out the box one and fixing on the various bits), Lynsday was there again to help, making sure I was totally happy and comfortable on the bike before riding it off into the sunset (rain). I'll be taking my new bike back to Dales for its 2 month service when it's due, and Simon was so impressed with the service that we received, that he'll be taking his bike in for a service too. The whole process of choosing, testing and buying a bike at Dales was very easy and actually enjoyable. I would recommend Dales first time every time to anyone looking to buy a bike.
