Really helped us out with a last minute repair/adjustment on arrival from the US for Ironman Edinburgh 2017. Great job and thanks!

The owner, who didn't seem overly stressed explained that they don't repair kids bikes and are only doing adults bikes for commuters. I decided to take the bike to Willie Bains further down Pollokshaws Rd who happily fixed it in 5 mins. President Bill Gates NWO

He was busy when I came along with my gammy rear wheel, and having only a little workshop I was unable to leave it with him. Instead I was booked in for the Wednesday (I'd come in on the Saturday) to have my wheel fixed. Come Wednesday, Harry dropped the bike off before heading for his shift at work, and I rushed down from Easterhouse as fast as I could by public transport to retrieve my bike before the shop closed. I got there with 5 minutes to spare! But the door was already locked. CURSES! So I chapped the door most persistently since the lights were still on and finally I was let in. The broken spokes had been fixed. The new spokes were in a different colour, but I wasn't really going to complain about that. What did annoy me, and has annoyed me about other shops, is that there was a problem that incurred more expense for me but I wasn't informed beforehand. Apparently my rear quick release had jammed and had to be cut off so that the wheel could be removed. So there was also a cost for replacing the quick release. When a shop has your phone number, they really should tell you when there's a problem... It's not really fair to ambush someone when they come to get their bike. It wasn't a great deal more money, but that's not really the point. Anyway, a few days later another of my spokes broke a couple of days after that. One of the Halfords engineers who was offering free checks told me that the tension in the spokes was wrong, and one of the new spokes had pressed at a bad angle against the now broken one... TLDR: the job was done quickly when a spot became available for me, but I was ambushed for a replacement part, and the job seems to have caused another problem - not going to hold that against the rating because the other engineer used the words 'seems' a lot, which meant he wasn't sure.

Now I am no biker, I know very little about bikes, the world of bikes or even the world of bike shops. But the guys behind the counter are really friendly and made me feel very welcome as they explained the basics. If you are interested in buying then they will walk you through and they don't push a sale. Gear also sell all manner of bike accessories, from lights and helmets to pedals and pumps. If you ever find your bike in need of some love, they also offer bike repairs and tune-ups at a very reasonable price. Though because they are well known in the area you may have to wait a few days before it is ready. What I really love about the shop is the biker community vibe. They leave a pump outside the store for anyone to use and they have helped a friend of mine with his breaks for free. Gear also sell pocket cycle maps of where best to go for a bike ride in the city so if you pop by I highly recommend that you spend £5 on that little gem.

They claim the bikes are ready to ride but after purchasing one it came with it's chain unattached and missing nobs on the steering wheel tigtner. After returning the bike I was told I won't be given a replacement or an alternative and to take my custom elsewhere. All because I complained. This Krister Sandberg guy that works in sales has been in the job 30 years and thinks he is above everyone. Old fashioned and zero sales etiquette. DO NOT shop with them. They portray themselves as the John Lewis of bike stores but really there are MUCH better companies out there. PS: I am trying to verify my review but there is no section to leave my order number. I'd been searching for a bike for some time. I knew what I wanted - a ladies' frame hybrid, with…read morehydraulic disc brakes, suspension, and the space to fit mudguards and panniers. I didn't think this was asking for the moon really, but according to what was available in other Glasgow bike shops, it seemed that this was a big ask, without spending a fortune. That was, until we went to Dales. Dales are fantastic! They have a huge range of bikes, and we spotted one straight away that seemed as though it might be ideal. We were very quickly helped by Lynsday. She established exactly what I was looking for, what sort of cycling I'd be doing, and what sort of price range I had budgeted for. Lyndsay was clearly a bike enthusiastic, and knew her bike stuff inside out - we were very impressed at her knowledge, and her friendly and helpful manner. Once she'd established that our chosen bike was the right size, she let me go for a test ride. It was pouring with rain, so Lyndsay and Simon very sensibly stayed inside while I hurtled up and down the street for a very quick test ride. I didn't need any longer though - as soon as I got on the bike, I knew it was the one for me. Once we'd made the decision to buy, Lyndsay continued to be super helpful. She showed us mudguards, with more detail than I could have thought possible about mudguards, and the various pannier racks and pannier bags. We didn't feel hurried at any point, even though the shop was very busy, and were very happy with the options we chose. When I returned to collect my bike (they were building me a fresh out the box one and fixing on the various bits), Lynsday was there again to help, making sure I was totally happy and comfortable on the bike before riding it off into the sunset (rain). I'll be taking my new bike back to Dales for its 2 month service when it's due, and Simon was so impressed with the service that we received, that he'll be taking his bike in for a service too. The whole process of choosing, testing and buying a bike at Dales was very easy and actually enjoyable. I would recommend Dales first time every time to anyone looking to buy a bike.

I've been in a few times - once to get some new inner tubes, another time to get some cycling mitts (fingerless gloves) and finally to replace a light. The shop has such a great range of everything, along with staff who are passionate about the subject matter. Whatever I was looking for, there was always a great range of that item, across a variety of prices. This shop thus caters for the casual and hardcore cyclist alike. It's the sort of place that you'll wonder round, and see something that you don't really need, but do want, and then try to justify whether or not you need it. The selection of complete bikes for sale is also great to look at, with that 'if money was no object' glint in your eye. Apart from sales, the shop also does repairs in a small workshop that is part of the shop. It's pretty much a one-stop shop for your cycling needs, and in a city like Edinburgh where cycling is the quickest way to get around, it is a very useful place. Well worth a visit if you live nearby, or even if you don't!

The cheapest you get is about £200 so perhaps they miss out the very cheapest bikes, but they may be forgiven for their level of quality. The next step up is the standard £300 commuter bikes you get sold throughout town and from here the more you spend the more you get with many different types and styles of bikes. My advice would be to tell the staff what you want, what you need it for and they will do their best to find whatever suits you. A great bike shop.

They were able to take the bike right away, and I'd be able to pick it up the next day. YAY! I like when I can get these issues fixed immediately, since I ride my bike every day. We discussed the possibility of rebuilding the wheel entirely or buying a new one, but I wasn't really up for that when all I needed were a few spokes When I came back to get my bike this time, they had replaced (as discussed) the previous replacement spokes which were not up to spec, and the further broken one as well as all the other spokes had the tension fixed. Another thing they had done, though, was do a minor service without previously agreeing with me (my bike wasn't actually due a service for at least 4 months). They seriously discounted the service, which was appreciated, but again I dislike being ambushed for services / items that weren't requested (as so many shops seem to do) so I had to knock off a star. These guys are professionals, quick and efficient, working to high quality. My bike has been in tip top condition since my visit. This bike shop is definitely geared towards the 'serious cyclist' rather than wee, leisurely commuters like me, but none-the-less a great wee shop.
