He never let on that it was closing time --I was unaware-- and although I was in and out pretty quickly, I caused him to be open an extra ten minutes, cringe. He told me it was not up to code and he said that's why it wasn't working. He worked for about an hour and a half installing a vent for our pump toilet system. I never saw him do anything but install the vent. He never looked at the pump system at all. And obviously that was the problem. But he said it was fixed and I paid well over $600. Being a basement toilet, it wasn't used much, so several days later I discovered it still was not working. I called and they sent the same guy to fix it properly. He couldn't have complained more about actually having to finishing the job this time. He actually said to me, "are you on some kind of medication or something?" blaming me for the job he never fixed the first time. He said that I was to blame for the pipes being clogged. When I asked him, are you saying that I, using it at most three times since you were here, am responsible for clogging the pipes? He paused for about 5 seconds and then said "yes". I know he never really checked things properly the first time, because I was checking on what he was doing. I called and left a message with the owner and of course he couldn't bother to respond to me, a customer... and on top of all else, the plumber started raising his voice at me. He obviously was caught lying regarding even looking for any other reason than the vent issue as to why it wasn't working. When I spoke to the plumbing manager, he told me that they have been in business 100 years? How did that help me?? The guy that was in my house, should not be anywhere near the home owner. I did find someone that fixed it. Will never go near Ed Youngs again.

What do you mean, you're already hard? Where? I had to fix my porch door, and this place were extremely helpful! Not the cheapest prices in the world, but then nothing is these days. They were reasonably and friendly and I don't really have any negatives whatsoever. Since that job (which was in September), I've recommended Hector's to two or three different people. If you have any home improvement type stuff to do, as much as Home Depot and Loews get all the press, Hector's is my tip for your best bet.

Hector's has been my "go to" store for everything I need to fix something for 25 years if I am serious about getting what I need quickly and as efficiently as possible. They pack an enormous amount of useful items in comparatively smaller stores than Home Depot, Lowes or even Valu but you don't feel you are in "cluttered" stores. Everything is kept organized so you can find things quickly. They hire people that know exactly what you need and if they don't they are not afraid to ask the senior staffer. I have never left a store without either the exact item or items I need to complete the task or the knowledge to go exactly where I need to for whatever I am searching for that day. I do still visit the big chains for sale items on occasion but I feel when I go into those stores there is sensory overload with all the items and sheer size of the that I many times forget what I went there for in the first place!! The other thing that drives me to madness is the inability to find somebody to ask a question in the area I am looking. Sure I can find somebody for a question I have about some electrical project but I usually have to walk to the other side of the store before I find somebody and then that guy has to put a call out on the radio to the people who can handle electrical and maybe just maybe I will get an associate in the electrical area in 10-20 minutes. Go to Hectors for anything you need and I am sure you will walk out a happy camper in a fraction of the time it would of taken you with other places.

An Unfortunate Series of Events In October 2025, I brought…read moreseveral window screens to be serviced. Some were bent and needed replacement, while others only required rescreening. When we picked them up and brought them home, we realized the screens did not fit properly, and the bent screens had not been replaced as requested. I called immediately, and Patty initially acknowledged the mistake and told us to bring the screens back so the issue could be corrected. Shortly after that, I had to travel out of state due to an emergency and was away for approximately one month, bringing us into December. After a very rough winter, we finally returned the screens. While they were repaired, they still did not fit correctly. At that point, a technician came to the house to measure the windows. We later received a call that the new screens were ready, and we picked them up. Due to continued wind, rain, and cold weather, there was a delay of a few weeks before installation. Unfortunately, once installed, several screens still did not fit properly, and some were clearly the wrong size altogether. It appeared as though the same size screen was made for windows that were originally different sizes. I paid over $350 during the first visit and was then required to pay an additional $300+ to have the work redone. When I tried to explain the discrepancies to Patty, my concerns were dismissed due to the amount of time that had passed. In the end, I am out more than $600, with screens that still do not fit correctly. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated. We have done business with this company--both personally and professionally--for over 20 years. Sadly, after this experience, that relationship has ended. Not a happy customer, and we will not be returning.
