Truly "the neighborhood hardware store" in an era when the big boxy places that don't care about community continue to somehow attract customers. All you have to do is pay attention to the number of employees who are ready to help you when you walk in. Notice the smiles and listen as staff members greet various customers by their first names. They have the name brands you want to find in hardware stores at prices that won't drill a hole in your bank account. They understand that some people (like me) are clueless when it comes to plumbing or electrical issues and they will patiently provide the solutions. They offer in home plumbing work that is available on a timely basis and they remember their customers! They have been in business since I was a little boy and that was a long time ago. It's clear that they're doing something right in the Village of Williamsville. That should give you all the incentive you need to get your hardware needs taken care of here.

Went in for a surge protector; got that, and discovered they have a cute gift shop corner, bought some fun cat note cards too. :-)

Shortly after I blurt the words, "Ahhhhh, crap!! The [WHATEVER] just broke!!", I always subsequently, A) Consult with my dad on what I need for him to fix said-[WHATEVER], and then B) Head over to Ed Young's to find said-thing. This hardware store is usually reliable in having whatever basic parts or equipment we need. Parking in the lot is typically plentiful, but can be busy when events are happening in the village. Otherwise, it is easy-in-and-out at the light at this plaza. When I walk in, I immediately look confused and on the verge of panic. But within a few seconds, a friendly store attendant swoops in to lead me to my needed item. If I were more DIY-inclined in general, the store is well organized where any handy-person could find items themselves, if they have any idea what the thing they're looking for actually looks like. But I'm just the go-get-it-person in this enterprise, my dad is always Mr. Fix-It. So the super-helpful staff here is greatly appreciated!! One day when stopping in for whatever needed said-item, the front-left corner of the store caught my eye. I thought, "Huh, that's not tools, how odd.", and wandered over. As it turns out, there is an entire gift shop area in the front of the store, with all sorts of giftable goodies. There are candles, greeting cards and notecards, soaps, home décor, Buffalo-themed items, games and toys, socks and slippers, some apparel, and an assortment of other kinds of unique gifts. If you are looking for something more in particular, there is a desk in the gift area with an attendant, ready to help. Never in my life have I moseyed the aisles of a hardware store and actually enjoyed myself, but Ed Young's definitely bucks that trend for me! Now I actually come here specifically for gifts, if I need to grab a little something nice and affordable for someone. If you need any sort of basic hardware store part or equipment, Ed Young's probably has it at a reasonable local store price, with friendly service to help you find it. Or if you are shopping for a gift, Ed Young's actually has that too. If you're strolling the Williamsville village boutiques, I kid you not, this hardware store is worth the browse for gifts, too!!

Lots of toilet seat covers to choose from! I like the black one myself

Not only did a gentleman walk me to the aisle I needed, but the lady at the register knew where my coupon was hiding in the app!

Water heater died. Ed Young's had a good price and the installation was smooth work by their guy. Highly recommended.

However I have found myself here twice in the past week. The first time was to try to find pruners that can be used standing. While we were not able to find those, sadly, the owner (I think) and his employee went out of their way to see how they could help me. Then, a few days later, I find myself on a mission to find a certain kind of plant food. I had already checked at Home Depot while buying bird seed, but they had not had it come in for over a year and were not sure when it was coming in. I called Walmart, Loews, and two garden stores in the area too. They did not have any in stock either. On a whim I stopped in here again, asked the employee if they had it, he took me to the aisle and there it was!! I scooped up the two boxes they had. This store looks small from the outside, but it is quite large once inside. It is next to and connected to the Schuele Paint Store, more or else on the corner of Summer and Main. Rather than travel to the suburbs, I will go here first now, they are helpful, pleasant, local and easy to get to.

After researching online we discovered that Valu had the one we wanted. We were greeted warmly at the door by both the cashier and a gentleman asking if we needed help, though not in a pushy way. We declined because we like to be able to look at merchandise prior to having an employee with us. Once we checked it out and decided on our purchase we were able to get an employee right away to go to the back to bring it out for us. They wheeled it up to the cashier for us and then loaded it into our car. Quick and easy. If they carried more items I needed I'd shop there more often. 21-3

That dreaded feeling I'm going to walk the long aisles, up and down, and still not finding the specific thing I need. Exhausted, like I just went to the gym type of feeling. Is not the feeling I get when I enter a Valu home center. I like going there because it's a midsize hardware store, easy to find what you need, very decent prices (especially if you enroll in their rewards program) and best of all their really is "customer service." Today, like many days before when I entered the store, a friendly employee was quick to greet me and asked me if they could help to find me what I'm looking for. When I'm so pressed for time, this means a lot to me. I often find the very thing I came to the store for, but because I'm not scouring through a humongous store, I end up having a few minutes to browse for other things that I might want to buy in the future. Now I have my eyes set on LED lighting for under the kitchen cabinets and an American Standard toilet. Exciting stuff!! Maybe Santa will bring me these goodies? I've been a very good girl this year. Funny thing, five years ago I bought a bookshelf at this very store that I really grown to appreciate use in my home office. Having moved to a new house recently, I thought it would be nice to have one more bookshelf to make a pair. One would not expect to buy furniture in a hardware store, but surprisingly Valu has a great selection of affordable and stylish wood furniture. The furniture brand name is Sauder. Valu sells this brand a few dollars cheaper than if you bought it directly from Sauder on their website. The store manager Joe, was very pleasant and efficient. He sweetened the deal by giving me a discount on the floor model and setting up delivery and a decent price. I couldn't be happier! Truly, the customer service is golden. It's what make me a repeat and happy customer. Plus, Valu is a family business. Not a publically traded company. They have thirty plus stores in New York and Pennsylvania. I'd much rather support a family business.
