But the experience was not was agreed upon. The caregivers did not have a car to take her out as we were told they would have, did not follow detailed written instructions left for them in the house, and apparently were content to watch Mom sleep. then they charged more time than the agreed upon 4 hrs. The liaison was nice...but what was the point of spending so much time agreeing upon details of care ...only to have the caregivers do such a minimal job at the agencies full rate.

She was always so positive about the care and respect Linda and the rest of the staff gave to her and also to residents who could not tend or speak for themselves at all. While there, we both also appreciated it was always spotlessly clean. Nancy, the owner of Harbor Bay Assisted Living, is frequently on site and very hands on with residents. Forward two years, and my mother has returned. She has been there for six months and is now in the position where she is no longer able to advocate for herself. Linda is amazing with my mom and doesn't hesitate to communicate with me. The whole staff is incredibly kind, compassionate and conscientious; mom is always clean and dressed, spoken with and encouraged. This is what adult care should be. Many of the caregivers who worked with…read moremy husband were kind and compassionate (shout out to Elite and Mechelle!)--this review is not about them. My issues lie with agency management. As my husband's care needs changed, we did not receive any reassessment or proactive involvement from management. Continuity between caregivers was very limited. I also saw that care documentation was inaccurate (e.g., marking things as done that were not done and things done that weren't documented). After discontinuing services, I took time to write several clear, detailed emails to the manager outlining specific concerns. But the responses I received left me feeling unheard. For that reason, I have not felt comfortable pursuing phone discussions. What was especially upsetting was the sense that responsibility for identifying care gaps appeared to rest largely on the ailing client and family. My husband was unwell, and I was managing work and other responsibilities -- which is why we hired an agency. In our view, agency management plays a key role in proactively ensuring quality of care. By analogy, a school principal does not wait for parent complaints before attending to student safety and educational quality. Since transitioning to AuCare, we have observed more direct managerial involvement. Their manager actually met with my husband directly (something that never happened with Firstlight) and offered helpful suggestions. Caregivers also demonstrate strong continuity, supported by accurate documentation practices and communication between staff. To top it off, Firstlight was so expensive. AuCare costs slightly less, and our experience has been better. I remain open to updating this review if management meaningfully addresses the concerns described above. Again, this review is not a reflection on individual caregivers. Our experience was shaped by gaps at the management and oversight level.

As her medical needs change, they have been absolutely wonderful and highly adaptable to work with. She is treated with the utmost respect and caring and whatever transport needs that we request are 100% accommodated. These have included normal medical appointments but also visits to In-N-Out Burger, getting Safeway supplies and even a manicure! Having been in the medical profession myself, I am pretty demanding in that arena, probably even called high maintenance. AEC has met that bar, and even raised it with their excellent communication by Suzee. It's such a great feeling knowing that when you can't be there for a relative, someone who cares still is. Premier Homecare Angels representative, Tedd, was very responsive, called me right away that same evening regarding my needs and explained everything I needed to know. They put me at ease and assured me just by sharing their knowledge of the whole process and empathy towards the whole situation. They made it simple! Next step was for someone to come into my aunts home to assess and ensure they needs I had described to them that we were looking for was accurate and to find a caregiver match with both my uncle and aunt. They were so flexible and when I scheduled the visit Tedd came out himself to assess on a Saturday, a few days after my initial call. That's great as we were looking to start the in home care services asap! Wow we were so impressed by his attentiveness, candor and putting my aunt and uncle as ease when we met. Its been 4 months and we are still trying to get them all the "paperwork" they need!! They never contact me to let me know they had lost and require additional paperwork. I have called them no less than 5 times and every time they mention a different form or document they need. They gave us the wrong W4 and I-9 forms then said we never filled them out!! Shame on you for making an already difficult process even worse. Its stressful enough having to deal with mental illness without your company adding to our stress!! Thanks for NOTHING!
