I'll never not go here. Second trip and experience wasn't quite as life changing as the first but still some of the best food of the trip.

This is absolutely some of the best gumbo I've ever had. The flavors were literally eyes-rolling-to-the-back-of-my-head type of good. Unfortunately, Yelp did not eat first with this one (I didn't get to take a picture of it). It came with a grilled cheese and potato salad! All the pricing online is accurate, there is street parking right in front of the restaurant with outdoor seating, and the food came out very quickly. I wouldn't really come to this restaurant to hang out with friends for a dinner since it's kind of small. But it's definitely one of those places that if you're in the area and wanting to pick up some soul food, you should DEFINITELY come here and get some.

Fried fish and shrimp

After a long day of travel to get to NOLA, I was too pooped to go out and hit the streets tonight for dinner. Ordered DoorDash from HDK on the cred of the many positive Yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. Tried two dishes, as I couldn't settle on one. The fried fish and shrimp were outstanding! Loved the dipping sauce and the seafood was cooked perfectly. The fish fillet was about an inch thick and so moist and flaky. Yum! Not sure I loved the fries with the crawdat sauce - they were a little salty. This ff dish kinda gives poutine vibes with the gravy. The Superdome was also tasty. I liked the fried fish better than the blackened, but the mashed potatoes and corn and sauce draped over the fish was rich and delicious. This fish was much thinner and a little chewy. I'd love a hybrid of Superdome using the thicker fried fish. Bread pudding was my dessert, warm and dripping in caramel/brown sugar sauce. I had to restrain myself from eating the whole thing! This was a perfect way to start my visit to the Big Easy.

We dined at quite a few restaurants during our stay in New Orleans; however, this hidden gem was hands-down the BEST (we even recommended it to our Uber driver!). The restaurant is tiny, but don't let that fool you: the portions were plentiful, and the taste was unlike anything I've experienced before! Quick and friendly service, southern hospitality. It's definitely on our list of places to visit when we return!

Seafood extravaganza

There's a lot of good food in New Orleans but there's only one heard dat kitchen. I found this spot on accident 5 years ago and it's been blessing me and my homegirls ever since! It's a little hole in the wall spot that probably can't hold more than 6 people inside so you know the food is going to be bussin! It's probably best you take it home anyway so you can make all the noises that you need to make comfortably without being judged lol You have to try them for yourself! When I tell yall I came here two days in a row because I was having withdrawals, I really mean that. I highly recommend the seafood extravaganza! I promise you will not be disappointed and If you are let me know so I can look you in your face and call you a liar. Shout out to my girl Esther that took care of me and I'll see yall when I'm back in town

Tiarra E.

super flavorful and definitely worth it. The service was good and everyone was friendly. The space inside is a bit small and tight, but once the food comes out, you forget all about that. I'll definitely be back!

cornbread with Crawdat sauce

So you land in New Orleans, stand in the heat waiting for an Uber at the airport, and finally make it to your hotel room after checking in at the front desk. You sink onto the couch in your room. Your stomach growls. But it is too late for breakfast and past lunch, almost dinner time. But you want to eat, now. What do you do? You hop on Uber Eats, scroll and find "Heard Dat Kitchen", order a few items, and it ends up being one of the best meals you've had in New Orleans and maybe one of the best meals you've ever had in your life. Everything I ordered on Uber Eats here (catfish over red beans and rice with cornbread and extra side of cornbread with Crawdat sauce) was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, delivered quickly, and piping hot, so you know it was fresh. Don't even question it, add it to your list of restaurants to try out.

Wings

There's no way that the wings that you guys are providing are THIS SMALL. These are the smallest "wings" I've ever seen in my LIFE. Complete ripoff.

I'm sure this is already listed somewhere but the website has me confused. The restaurant website gives hours for every day of the week but says dining is only 11-4 on Tuesday through Saturday. Are they open for dinner on Saturdays?

Yes they are open for dinner until 9pm.

Menu says Uber eats, but I try searching for it, doesn't come up. How do you set up Uber eats to deliver?

We have Uber eats and Waitr for deliver services. You have to be within a certain mile radius for them to deliver!

We had Boris as our server, and he stood out from the very beginning. He was not only pleasant and attentive, but also extremely knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations. What really impressed us was that he took our very specific order without a pen or paper--he memorized everything perfectly! The food came out quickly, and the entire staff worked together seamlessly. It was truly a great dining experience from start to finish. And the desserts were to die for! I highly recommend trying the gumbo, shrimp platter, bread pudding, and chocolate mousse. Everything was delicious. The only downside is the parking. Street parking is available, as well as paid parking options, but it can be a little challenging. Overall, a wonderful experience with great food, excellent service, and a fantastic team. Highly recommended!

We came in Saturday night without a reservation and only had to wait a few minutes. Our waitress was amazing from the second we sat down. I really wish I remembered her name because she was super attentive, funny, patient, and honestly made the whole experience even better. My boyfriend and I started with the Creole oysters and OMG... probably some of the best oysters I've ever had. They were incredibly flavorful, and dipping the bread into all that sauce afterward was SO good. My mother-in-law had the fried calamari, which came with remoulade, and she really enjoyed it. For my entrée, I had the jambalaya with chicken and andouille sausage. It was definitely spicy, but really, really good. My boyfriend and mother-in-law both had the grilled red snapper topped with their creamy crawfish sauce, and they loved it. My father-in-law had one of the oyster specials with shrimp and crawfish, which was also excellent. We finished with dessert... boyfriend and I had a chocolate mousse/cake dessert and my in-laws had the bread pudding. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was casual and fun, they had the football games playing on the TVs, and our waitress was fantastic the entire night. Just an overall great experience. If you love seafood and oysters, definitely give this place a try. I would 100% come back!

It's either this place or another popular joint across the street. Hot N Cajun won me over seeing their photos on Yelp/Google reviews . I am not much of a southern fried seafood type of person, so their seafood boil platter won me over. We luckily didn't wait to long for a party of 3 . Not much fan fair here, tables lined with Hot N Cajun logos printed on some type of parchment paper on our table. Gloves , bibs , crab claws and wet naps are provided . The menu has no price list, waiter will hand a separate sheet of paper with the most updated market price. We opted for some blue moon beer, lobster boss ( 1 lobster tail, 1/2 lbs of headless shrimp and a cluster of crab legs) of course all seafood combo included corn, potatoes and sausages. Don't like the combo pack definitely can build your own plate. That's on us, but respect the choice of not serving inferior crawfish. They have multiple sauces and spice levels to tailor to your taste. We always prefer Vietnamese influenced seafood boils with extra sauce and fresh garlic. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, both head on and headless. The lobster, snow crab, and blue crabs were all fresh also. The wings were dry rubbed and I would avoid that. The wait can be long. Restaurant was clean.

Everything we ordered was delicious, and honestly, the food is the main reason I would consider giving Bon Ton another try. I also want to give credit to the host who greeted us. She was extremely friendly, professional, and genuinely tried her best to accommodate my party. The bad: The issue was management. I had a party of 13, and I understood that the restaurant could only seat 10 people at one table. I was told the other 3 guests would be seated at a separate table, and I was completely okay with that arrangement. However, Travis, the front manager, canceled the reservation for my 3 additional guests, so they were never seated. The host was trying her best to help us, but Travis was not very accommodating and made the situation much more difficult than it needed to be. I also asked to speak with a manager because I wanted to understand what happened with the table for my 3 guests. Tre was told that I wanted to speak with him, but he didn't come over when he finished with the table behind me. Instead, he went into the kitchen, came back out, and spoke with my friend instead of me. When he eventually spoke with me, I asked if he was the manager, and he told me no. He also gave me a different name. What makes this even more disappointing is that I wasn't approaching him to complain. I simply wanted to ask about the seating situation and find a solution for my guests. The interaction with management was unnecessary and took away from what should have been a special birthday dinner. I will say again that the food was good enough that I am willing to give Bon Ton another try. Hopefully, next time the service and management experience will match the quality of the food. Shoutout to the host for being kind and trying her best--you could tell she genuinely cared about helping us.
