Our modified lunch group caught this one as a recommendation. On arrival this place didn't and well doesn't look like much. It is a small part of an old corner store and a bit of a maze to navigate your way into. The inside isn't anything spectacular, looking like a typical mom and pop with limited decor. The menus was small but I'd rather a place make a few things good than a lot of thing ok. This place definitely makes good food! I ordered the Bourbon Street Love which is a boneless chicken thigh served with a crawfish cream sauce on top of macaroni and cheese and a small side of potato salad. The chicken was fried perfectly and had a good amount of seasoning. The crawfish sauce was light and a good touch. The macaroni and cheese was well made. Creamy and cheesy, and again well seasoned. The potato salad is a mustard based and was really good as well. My cohorts had the seafood platter of shrimp and fish with a side of Dat Fries and the other had the Dat Chicken. Again both were fantastic. The cook obviously has a good handle on how to season everything they touch. It's not in the best of areas but if you find your self on Claiborne around Felicity do yourself a favor and give it a try. read more

Hmm, maybe the saying to "never judge a book by its cover is true". This little gem definitely can serve up some food. I ordered the Bourbon Street Love and some loaded fries and they both were equally delicious. The fried chicken that's served with the Bourbon Street Love was perfectly seasoned and the crunch element was fantastic. The macaroni was loaded with crawfish and the flavors meshed so well! The building is extremely small so most people tend to sit outside on the benches. You can order in and pick up so in order to avoid the crowd. I certainly would visit again. read more

I recently traveled to New Orleans with a couple of friends for a project. One day we were deciding where to eat for lunch after finishing our 2nd Line Tour (btw, most authentic way to take a tour in NOLA) and they suggested this spot. When I tell you they did NOT disappoint! They ended up getting my order wrong, I ordered the Mardi Gras mambo and they brought me the bourbon street love instead. When they went to go fix it, the daughter said we could keep this plate and they wouldn't charge us while they went back to make what I actually ordered. But when I tell you this was the best mistake I've ever made! The chicken was light and fluffy, and I've NEVER said that about fried chicken, mac n cheese was splendid and their crawfish sauce!? To die for! And please don't get me started on their bread pudding...all I'll say is, I don't eat bread pudding, and I will gladly eat theirs again (see attached photo for proof) I've been to New Orleans many times before, even lived there when I went to college, and nothing compares to this. When y'all go to New Orleans, Heard Dat Kitchen is a must! read more

This is hands down my favorite place to get creole food in NOLA. Their "crawdat sauce" is out of this world good. Anything you order with that on it is gonna be delicious. My favorite thing there is the crawdat Mac which is Mac and cheese with their famous crawdat sauce. Soooo delicious. Order literally anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed. There may be a bit of of a wait as they are mostly carry out and they're busy. But it's worth the wait I promise. read more

The food at Heard Dat Kitchen was incredible! My group and I agreed this was our favorite meal while visiting New Orleans. Definitely off the beaten path but an incredible experience. From Ordering to eating everything was seamless. We ordered the Mardi Gras Mambo and the SuperDome. No complaints. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were perfect. We topped it all off with Dat Shyt to drink which is their own specialty drink of tea and fruit punch. We were there during closing so Jeff the owner and chef came out to chat with us. He was so grateful and happy to have us. It's a family owned and operated business. Jeff and his son made the menu together. Next time I'm in New Orleans I'll definitely be back. Highly recommend for a tasty southern meal. read more

Authentic delicious food!! Moist chicken, delicate fish, Skeesh sauce is a must try!! Oh and get the bread pudding !!!!!

I thought I had left this review, and realized I didn't. I definitely wanted to make sure that I left a review! Amazing!!!! We drove up and let me tell you the other reviews were so accurate...it was definitely not a place that you just happened to walk past...you have to be deliberate if you are coming here! I was in town last April for a women's convention and I am a Yelper, what can I say. Had this place bookmarked long before the trip...and so my friends wanted to know where we were going for lunch...they know I am a foodie...so they trusted me! So off we go...we drive up in front of the place and they were all asking me where the hell I was bringing them. There was a guy that was standing outside that asked us if were coming to the restaurant...and I really wasn't sure if we were at the right place. From the outside it didn't look like a place we would go....so he leads us inside to the restaurant. It literally looked like they just set up the place this morning to serve food....there was a bathroom sink in the restaurant up against the wall, next to our table! We ordered our food...I had the catfish...and all my friends ordered different things...I wish I could remember all they ordered. But I have to tell you that despite all their apprehension at the beginning of this adventure...there was none once the food came. Not one of them was complaining about the food... It is a very eclectic place, the waitress was very friendly and told us all about the restaurant, her dad (the chef), her mom...and it was worth the trip! I would definitely come back to this place, my next trip to NOLA... read more

Man, this place was fantastic! When we first arrived to NOLA we were starving! While we dropped our bags at our Airbnb and I did a search for fried chicken. We didn't want any fast food, just something delicious. Heard Dat Kitchen just kept popping up on Yelp! I narrowed it down to 2 places, but went with this one because I knew for certain it was black owned. The pictures of the food look good. So we caught an Uber. When we got there I realized this was in a neighborhood and not anything like a tourist trap. We walk in the door to this VERY tiny room and a line with people holding menus. I assumed we had to sit outside because I didn't see anywhere else to sit. There was a very nice woman who was taking orders and she asked if we wanted to dine in and I said yes. She said just a moment, and handed a bag of food to an Uber eats driver saying make sure you hold the bag this way so the food doesn't get everywhere in there. I knew I was going to like this place! She then took us outside and we walked past the outside tables around a little corner of the building and inside and there was a little dining room. It was very quaint and homey. The woman serving us I then realized from pictures and articles on the wall was the owners daughter! We ordered food and everything I tasted there was fabulous! Seasoned to perfection, and I don't say that a lot lol. We ended up eating there a few days later too lol. And she remembered us, and even what we ordered. "Pittsburgh!" She said lol Please please please make sure you check this place out! read more

Never judge a book by its cover. Yes, it's a sketchy area. Yes, the one table entrance is unusual. BUT ... all that aside if you don't stop you'll miss an amazing experience worth stopping in for. They do have a dine in area though it appears most people prefer take out. In an area that appears to have limited venue options for a restaurant, this one has established itself as standout in an unusual space. Let's start with the Dat Crawfish Fries. If I were Emeril Lagasse I'd say BAM!! Do not pass up the opportunity to enjoy some of the best fries you'll ever eat. My main course recommendations are the Bourbon Street Chicken and the Superdome. Trust me when I tell you, you can't go wrong. Especially knowing they make their own homemade fruit punch. While I know New Orleans is full of amazing places to eat I'll say you're going to be hard-pressed to find a place quite as good as this one. Don't miss the opportunity to check it out!! read more

We ordered the Superdome and the Bourbon Street Love. Both dishes were delicious and the cream sauces were decadent. The onion rings were so yummy in the lobster cream sauce, I could eat that all day long! Recommend you give this place a try. read more

This place is tiny, but the food they're putting out is as good or better than anything else we ate in New Orleans. We liked it so much, we got food there two days in a row. The best soul food I've ever had in my life. Better than the food I had on Bourbon street.

Let me tell you something about a hole in the wall. It's a spot for some of the best grub in any city, ever! It's also called a dive or that spot that's off the beaten path ( in the hood or off a country road). You know what I mean? That place looks Iocals hit any night of the week. Well, that place in New Orleans is Heard Dat!! This guy is laying down some serious grub. The flavors are out of bounds. Every entree we tried was outstanding. I got the Bourbon Street lovers and hubby got the seafood extravaganza and the Superdome. Every thing was amazing. The fish, the chicken, the Mac and cheese, the dollop of potato salad. The sauce awesome!! Check it out, it's definitely worth it. read more

This mom and pop, hole in the wall kitchen def does not disappoint! It is filled with a lot ooey gooey, taste buds satisfying love! So much happiness here! We got their super dome and Benson, with had delicious cream sauce, yet different. Bite after bite, the more flavor profile became even more present, our taste buds yearning for us to reach for another fork full. We tried lots of different restaurants during our visit, and Heard dat Kitcheb by far has left us completely satisfied and our bellies love us for it. You can call to place an order or walk in and place an order. There's a QR code to see the menu...honestly, I wished I studied the menu like I studied for my exams, so many choices and there was no "all of the above" option. No pick is the wrong pick here.. The gal that took our order was very kind and sweet. I purchased a bread pudding after I got our food order and she had us start on our meal and brought the bread pudding out to me. Wow, also amazing. Def come here, your bellies will thank us! read more

Great food and reasonable pricing. Definitely one of my stops when traveling to New Orleans.

I had the Blackened shrimp plate w mac, peas & potato salad for only $10. Excellent flavor and a nice portion for such a low price. The staff is very friendly & don't forget to ask about the specials. The neighborhood doesn't look the best but I felt very safe. The locals walking by were very welcoming too. read more

I have been to this place plenty of times. The food is spot on. However, I attended today and the food was great. But The young lady who took my order decided she was going to finish watching whatever she was watching on her phone before answering my question. I was literally .2 seconds away from walking out. As I was turning to walk out, she put the phone down and acknowledged me. Businesses should be very intentional about the staff working the front of the house. If they won't put the same level of care and attention as you would, they should not be the first point of contact for the business. And cell phones should be put down the minute a customer walks in. It will definitely be a while before I return again. read more

Inventive and delicious food! Had bourbon street love and who dat plate, both were great! Buffalo strips also great, like a sweet and sour sauce with hot sauce? Loved it. I was in New Orleans with friends for Mardi Gras and we had some good food. However, I told my friends I needed some cajun soul food. Like someone's mom or grandma was in the back making it. After reading their Yelp reviews, I knew Heard Dat Kitchen was exactly what I was looking for. The food was incredible. The portions are good and prices are reasonable. My absolute favorite was the shrimp and grits. I'm still having cravings for this now. With this said, the food is made upon ordering and this restaurant is popular so be prepared to wait in line. Also, the day we went, they were having some issues with their plumbing so the dining room was closed. Regardless of all that, the taste of the food makes it all worth it. read more

Taste- ***** Ambiance- * Parking- ** Service- ***** Have you heard about dat-kitchen? Slightly off the beaten path you will find this little gem. It's situated in a neighborhood that doesn't get a lot of tourists. On my 10 minute walk from the trolley I witnessed drugs, crime, and poverty. But it just goes to show you- if you cook good food, people will come, and I'm so glad I came. This restaurant is a true hole in the wall. As I walk up to a walk-in closet sized store front I was greeted warmly by staff. Maybe there is more seating in the back? From what I can see the front could only seat a table for two. Perfect for me! After much debate we ordered the bourbon street chicken and shrimp and grits. And DAT was the best meal I had in NOLA. The food served here can stand up to any four star $$$ restaurant in the city. Taste, texture, presentation, and service!- all top notch. I would come here once a week if I could. If you are looking for some true New Orleans Cajun/Southern flavor stop what you are doing and get here ASAP! Wife and I are visiting from DC and we asked some locals where the true New Orleans spots are that aren't watered down for tourists. Heard Dat Kitchen was top of everyone's list. We ended up trying it out and I am nearly at a lost for words. Excuse the typos because I'm laying down trying to digest our meal. This place is all dat! Not even sure how we found it. Googling restaurants led me to a yelp page with the reviews. I called to make reservations on a Saturday. Only open from 11-4 dining, to-go afterwards. When we got there a really sweet girl led us to the dining room. Our waitress was on point. We ordered craw dat fries - amazing. We each ordered entrees one of us had fried fish, the other fried chicken. Both over a bed of Mac-n-cheese with some more of that craw dat sauce poured over the top, potato salad and peas. Delish! And if we weren't already full enough we split a bread pudding. Yum! This place is stupid good!!! When we went it was calm and slow, not like the pics you see posted with a line wrapped around the place. I'm really glad! Earlier this month my husband and I were in NOLA taking in some of the best the city has to offer . We are a couple that loves to travel & yes we will do some of the touristy must. However anywhere we travel to we go but we always like to discover things on the unbeaten path. We are explorers through & through m. On our trips we always take some time to stepped away from the glitzy stuff and visit everything that is real as well. Heard dat Kitchen is everything!!! You must go!!!! If you love delicious comfort/soul food, look no further. This is the place to be. Do not be discouraged by the outside of the book walk in and check out the chapter, this establishment is run by a father/daughter team. Both are so absolutely warm and inviting. It was a beautifully plated large portion of love. My other half had the Super Dome I can not explain how good other than to say trust me this was soooo amazingly delicious. This restaurant has certainly made a name for itself in the year or so that it's been open. It seems that every time there's a "Best New Restaurants" list, Heard Dat Kitchen is on it. Up until recently, the place was only take-out so as soon as the opening a dining room section, I made it a point to stop by. Heard Dat is located smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood and the only reason I knew which building it was is because of Yelp. I parked easily and popped in. I told the woman behind the counter I was there to eat in and she lead be around the building and down an alley to a room on the side where the dining room was. Everything sounded so good, but I decided to go with the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were tail-off and the grits were creamy and tasty. There was also corn in it, which was pretty different, but I liked it. I liked that the portion wasn't too big, it was perfect for lunch and it was only $10. In fact, most of their dishes are around the $10-$14 range, which is pretty great considering what you get. I have to go back and get the red beans and rice with fried chicken. Some other folks got that and it looked SO GOOD that I almost got an order of it to go. read more

Okay so this is a grungy little place in the hood and your order is taken by a lady behind bars. This area is not that appealing especially if you are not from that part of town. There are people hanging out on the corner and in front of the place but they are harmless thats just their day job. The food you order is cooked behind a wall, and you can not see whats going on but the smells are very good to my nose. Funky little place off the beaten path that is well worth visiting. Got the following: Bourbon street love: 4 stars, the fried chicken was perfectly fried and crispy with the perfect amount of heat. The sauce on it was delicious as well. It comes with Mac and cheese, which I felt was too runny and didn't hold up to the fried chicken. The potato salad on the side was more like a "mashed" potato salad, but it was delicious and I would have loved more of it. The sweet tea is different from what one would expect from sweet tea, but in a good way. Their sweet tea has some sourness to it that is refreshing and surprising.
