I received a boneless piece of chicken breast fried well but very spicy hot, a very small spoonful of mediocre potato salad, a nice portion of unimpressive Mac and cheese, and a small spoonful of sweetened canned peas. This was the best meal I've had in quarantine so far! It was delicious, reasonably priced, and travelled well. There's not much more you can ask for when it comes to a to go meal. We also ordered the seafood extravaganza which came with your choice of blackened fish and shrimp with crawfish cheese fries. We ordered our seafood blackened and it was so tasty. I loved the crawfish cheese fries too. It was truly a perfect meal that made my entire week better. This was my first time trying Heard Dat kitchen and definitely won't be my last. We spent a week in New Orleans and ate at a mix of restaurants all over the city. The Superdome was the best thing we ate all week.

I have visited NOLA about 5 times and finally ventured outside my usual eating sites to support another black owned restaurant. I was truly surprised with the men offerings and could not wait to dine. I ordered the Nola Jam with fried basa, yellow rice and green beans. Seasonings and flavor was on point. The perfect hidden gem. This place combines amazing food with the best customer service you will find. The entire restaurant includes 2 tables, 2 employees and about 10 menu items and I can easily say they have MASTERED the system. The owner was out of town for the night we arrived but his to children were running the place and they blew us out of the water. Our group of 5 came here on our last night before leaving New Orleans and all agreed that it was by far the best meal of the trip. This is a relatively new place, with the goal of bringing fine New Orleans cuisine to inner city folks. It was Monday so I ordered their Red Beans and Rice. I got the order To Go. Overall, the dish looked good (see photo). However, they might consider different packaging so the beans (and sauce) don't spill in the bag on To Go orders. I thought it was a very good idea that they shielded the fried chicken by wax paper; however, the styrofoam packaging did not prevent the chicken and beans from commingling. Also, the portion of the side salad was VERY small in the compartment; maybe the equivalent of 4 bites. Plus, I asked for blue cheese dressing but received honey mustard and ranch. I was excited from prior photos for homemade cornbread but sadly what I received looked and tasted like Jiffy (but dry). As a recommendation for online orders, consider offering a pull down menu to select available types of condiments (like hot sauce) and other items like salad dressing. On a positive note... the flavor of red beans was Exquisite! Good consistency and chunks of meat. Likewise, the fried chicken was excellent. It was fried and seasoned well and was quite delicious. For the price, I was fairly unimpressed with the "Super Dome". The dish is entirely unbalanced in composition. It appears they have a Groupon discount, which is probably inflating their score. I ordered the Super Dome. The dish is blackened fish, lobster potatoes, lobster cream sauce sweet corn and crispy onion rings. The onion rings were nice. The were thin and crispy and well-seasoned. Though, they didn't really seem to make sense with to top and already oil and carb forward dish as this. The "lobster potatoes" just tasted like mediocre mashed potatoes. They were a bit bland and very dense. They were certainly not fluffy or buttery. The lobster "sauce" seemed to be shredded imitation crab meat. I'd be legitimately surprised were I to find it it was real lobster. Though, I am open to correction on this front. The sauce was good. It's a testy, mayonnaise-forward cajun tribute. The blackened fish was not as I expected, though I am admittedly a neophyte to New Orleans blackened fish. The fish felt like a miss. They took a delicate white fish (maybe tilapia or maybe catfish, a bit less delicate in texture) and burnt seasonings onto it. There was no maillard complexity or even significant cajun flavor. The fish just tasted burnt. I was expecting a complex blend of New Orleans-esque seasoning and spices. They literally blackened the fish. Perhaps this is the style. I don't know. But it could be greatly improved. The texture within was pretty good. The fish was most and tender (but it wasn't ethereally flaky.) Overall, I felt this dish was trying to be fancy, but did not achieve the desired effect. The dish dominated with weak potatoes and a imitation seafood salad. These flavors and textures overwhelmed the fish. Perhaps that is for the best, because the fish was burnt. There were some interesting flavors going on in there, but the dish as a whole did not impress. Please consider reconstruction with lighter flavors and textures and a greater attention to the execution of the fish. read more

So I got the super-dome, my best friend got the Mardi Gras mambo and our other friend got the gumbo. now everything was great the super-dome comes with onion rings(fresh) with a nice creamy sauce over fish and mash potatoes omg you'll want to eat it all help yourself don't do it. Easy 5 stars. I found this place on yelp and made the executive decision that this is where we would be eating lunch. I had the Seafood Experience (or something like that) and I got fried shrimp and blackened fish and it comes with fries, BOOM! it was really good. I also tried some of the mac and cheese and chicken and it was also really good. We were well taken care of and the chef came out to say hello and check on us as well. The iced tea was also surprisingly good, I really like the lemon kick it had. Next time I'm in New Orleans, I am coming back here. This review is only for the food and service. The ambiance was 'hood' which didn't bother me. We ate outside on picnic tables and there were randoms wandering by on the street and across the street, so if you are looking for a nice looking upscale restaurant to dine in, this isn't your place. Super addictive, this is the best way to describe the food at Heard Dat Kitchen. My wife and I stopped in for lunch recently. We started with an order of Crawdat Fries. The fries were soft with a crisp outside and covered in melty cheese and a creamy crawfish sauce filled with tender pieces of crawfish. For my entrée I had the Superdome: flavorful seasoned peppery flakey fish topped with savory mashed potatoes, sweet corn, crisp onion rings, and a creamy briny lobster sauce. The restaurant is located in a run down neighborhood in disrepair with worn out picnic tables - in the evenings during Oct. you can sit outside without it being too stifling. They close the dining area on the inside after 5pm on the weekend, but you can still order Takeout, so you can grab your food to go w/utensils. BOURBON STREET LOVE (4/5): Chef Jeff said he used to use chicken breast & customers complained it was too dry, so he made a switch. I always prefer dark meat (chicken thigh) in comparison - it makes a big difference (the golden fried exterior coupled with 1.5 inch (thick) piece of chicken was sooo juicy) & on a bed of mac & cheese with a crawdat cream poured over with about 5 crawfish & a small scoop of potatoes (too much mustard for my liking, so I didn't eat it). DAT FIRE. That's really all I have to say about Heard Dat Kitchen. For a while, I indulged in their delicious dishes and never knew where the actual location of this fine eatery was. After meeting Chef Jeff at the Black Restaurant Week Showcase a few months ago, I was finally able to put a face with a name and I immediately realized I had to visit the place myself. Turns out his eatery location is a spot I used to visit as a tot for delicious BBQ. New Orleans is truly a small world. Fast forward to today and if you hop on my foodie Instagram page, you're sure to see some Heard Dat dishes in my IG stories and splashed across my feed. After all, its only fitting that LetDatGirlEat would love a spot called Heard Dat Kitchen. From crispy fried chicken deliciousness to creamy crawdat sauce fantasies, there's no place you can go and get authentic New Orleans cuisine that is THIS good. Not sure if its the flick of Chef's wrist or a secret recipe, but the taste is unmatched. Also, the names of the dishes encompass New Orleans culture, which I love. Now on to my favorite dishes. The first dish I ever got from Heard Dat a year or two ago was the Superdome. Extremely fitting since the restaurant is not too far from the 'Dome. Blackened fish, lobster potatoes, lobster cream sauce, sweet corn and crispy onion rings on top bring together a stellar dish that is different from anything I've ever had. The Seafood Extravaganza is also a favorite. Fried fish and shrimp with crawdat fries and angel sauce make up a seafood platter grander than any that you have ever seen. If you attended Fried Chicken Fest last month and didn't try this dish, you were seriously sleepin'. But don't worry, you can get it any and every day at their spot! Fried chicken over mac and cheese with crawdat cream sauce with potato salad. Man..I have no words. Just go taste it. So full of flavor that a description does it no justice. And a new favorite of mine is definitely the Skeesh Salad, which I tried for the first time last Friday. Mixed greens, tomatoes, cheese, eggs, fried shrimp tossed in Skeesh sauce and onion rings. All this topped with buttermilk ranch. This ain't a salad for the health freaks, it's one for the big dawgs with real taste buds. Clearly a favorite of mine just that quickly. If you ever get the pleasure of meeting me and asking what is one spot you should visit for authentic New Orleans cuisine, especially if you're a visitor, best believe I'm telling you to visit Heard Dat Kitchen. If I could give this place 10 stars based solely on the food, I WOULD. This place had the besssstttttt southern food I had in my entire time at New Orleans for my birthday weekend. And it's the one place I would go back to if I ever came back to New Orleans. Heard Dat Kitchen offers both carry out and dine in options. My family opted to dine in. We had the Crawdat Fries, Shrimp and Grits, Red Beans and Rice, and the Mardi Gras Mambo. We also had the bread pudding for dessert. All of our food was extremely flavorful. My favorites by far were the Crawdat Fries and the Mardi Gras Mambo. The presentation was nice. And our waitress was awesome. The prices were as expected. Crawdat Fries were $8. The Red Beans and Rice and Shrimp and Grits were $10 each. The Mardi Gras Mambo was $14. They were all well worth it. The staff so kind to our large group (Bach party) and the Chef even came out to make sure our food was up to standards. This restaurant was the highlight when it came to our meals during the trip. No other place in NOLA came close. The Pasta was excellent. The fish was fresh and well seasoned. The crawfish etoufee was out of this world. But the winner.... Their potato SALAD! Ya heard that. The potato salad is a mustard based and was really good as well. My cohorts had the seafood platter of shrimp and fish with a side of Dat Fries and the other had the Dat Chicken. Again both were fantastic. The cook obviously has a good handle on how to season everything they touch. I recently traveled to New Orleans with a couple of friends for a project. One day we were deciding where to eat for lunch after finishing our 2nd Line Tour (btw, most authentic way to take a tour in NOLA) and they suggested this spot. When I tell you they did NOT disappoint! They ended up getting my order wrong, I ordered the Mardi Gras mambo and they brought me the bourbon street love instead. When they went to go fix it, the daughter said we could keep this plate and they wouldn't charge us while they went back to make what I actually ordered. But when I tell you this was the best mistake I've ever made! The chicken was light and fluffy, and I've NEVER said that about fried chicken, mac n cheese was splendid and their crawfish sauce!? To die for! And please don't get me started on their bread pudding...all I'll say is, I don't eat bread pudding, and I will gladly eat theirs again (see attached photo for proof) I've been to New Orleans many times before, even lived there when I went to college, and nothing compares to this. The food at Heard Dat Kitchen was incredible! My group and I agreed this was our favorite meal while visiting New Orleans. Definitely off the beaten path but an incredible experience. From Ordering to eating everything was seamless. We ordered the Mardi Gras Mambo and the SuperDome. No complaints. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were perfect. We topped it all off with Dat Shyt to drink which is their own specialty drink of tea and fruit punch. We were there during closing so Jeff the owner and chef came out to chat with us. He was so grateful and happy to have us. It's a family owned and operated business. Jeff and his son made the menu together. Next time I'm in New Orleans I'll definitely be back.
