I ordered the special of the day - cajun pasta topped with fried crawfish. I also ordered the bread pudding. The serving portion, flavor and quality were amazing. This will be my go-to spot whenever I am in New Orleans. Their drinks are great too. The restaurant itself is small, with some outdoor seating, but it's best to get your food to-go or delivered through one of the popular delivery apps. Please do not judge the place by its location at all. The facility is clean, the kitchen was in order, customer service was great and most importantly - the food was amazing. I apologize for taking a pic after digging in my plate (I was starving), but I have included pics of one of the best meals I had during my time in New Orleans. read more

The fries were so good that they made my migraine stop, and I'm not even joking or exaggerating! Wonderful!

A friend of mine suggested this place and yo, it's the bomb. I can't remember the last time I had a great meal of blackened catfish. Outdoor seating, parking to be found, but recommend if looking for take out. Great staff and punch. Would recommend! read more

This hole in the wall spot is a HIDDEN GEM. I got the seafood extravaganza, blackened. The fish was actually blackened and very flavorful! The shrimp was cooked well too! The crawfat fries were crispy even under the cheese/gravy! I'd come back just for those alone! My partner got the bourbon street. 10/10!!! read more

One of the BEST meals I had while in NOLA! Get any of the specialty dishes and you will not be disappointed! My favorites among them were The Superdome and the Seafood Extraganza (Must trys!). You have to try their super smooth and delicious, bread pudding! Honestly, everything we had was amazing and I had been dying to try this place for a while. To make matters even better, while I was looking for groupons for airboat excursions, I found one for Heard Dat Kitchen! We ended up spending over $50 of our own money (including the price of the groupon) for more than 4 meals worth of food! Everyone there is super nice and can help you figure out what to order. I would caution against walking or biking around this area as it is known to be seedy and we received many warnings from our airbnb host and lyft drivers... so be careful! Also, the place only has two tables for 2, and if weather permits, theyll have outside tables too. read more

In terms of taste and quality, this is definitely a 5-star eatery. The person working the counter was friendly and welcoming: another high score. The only mark down is the building itself. It is in need of repair inside and there isn't a functioning A/C. In New Orleans, in the summer, this is tough. So, if you're taking it to go or eating outside on a cooler day, you're fine. read more

Go. To. This. Place. The food is D E L I C I O U S! The staff is so friendly, even the other customers were awesome and I made friends while I waited for my food. So, great ambiance! Wow! I got takeout from here and it was very good. Visiting from out of town and this is my favorite meal on this trip. I got the fried chicken, crawfish and shrimp pasta, yellow rice, and blacken fish with lobster mash potatoes and everything was delicious. My favorite being the lobster mash. Pleasantly surprised and very happy this was our last meal in Nola! read more

The food was quite tasty!! We came to try the Gumbo Combo, but they ran out (that's saying something good already). We tried the Heard Dat Pasta, Bourbon Street Love and Seafood Extravaganza combinations, all of which were great! We came back the next day to try the Gumbo and were glad we did!!! Chef Jeff makes some excellent dishes!!! He came out to inquire how we liked it. I would highly recommend this stop in New Orleans!! 8 thumbs up!!! read more

This was the best meal I've had in quarantine so far! It was delicious, reasonably priced, and travelled well. There's not much more you can ask for when it comes to a to go meal. We ordered the special of the night which was crawfish pasta with fried shrimp on it. It was incredibly flavorful and came with corn and bread on the side. We also ordered the seafood extravaganza which came with your choice of blackened fish and shrimp with crawfish cheese fries. We ordered our seafood blackened and it was so tasty. I loved the crawfish cheese fries too. It was truly a perfect meal that made my entire week better. This was my first time trying Heard Dat kitchen and definitely won't be my last. If you haven't ordered from here yet you need to! All the food was still hot when we got it and tasted as good as if we ate it there. We picked it up but they are also on Uber eats! read more

Great local spot good for local cuisine. It's a small shop, so mainly for takeout orders.

I got take out from here recently and it was fantastic!! The Mac and cheese was oh so flavorful, not your basic Mac and cheese. The fried chicken was boneless and was a slab of deliciousness. There was flavor and good breading texture. The fries had ranch and candied bacon. Enough said. Super tasty and full of flavor place. read more

The first thing I need to say is that if you are a pretentious person who judges restaurants by their surroundings or need a fancy ambiance to enjoy good food, this is not the place for you...& you're going to miss out on a lot of GREAT food in life. I wont lie, the bathroom situation might be off-putting for some people, but again...get over yourself. Once you start chatting with the team & hear more of their story, you love that you are eating there, supporting their culinary dream. We ordered the Crawdat Fries for the appetizer & devoured them FAST. The sauce was incredible & we wished there had been more, even though the portion was huge. My Dad ordered the red beans & rice with fried fish for his entree & we all tasted it. It was amazing. Perhaps the best traditional red beans & rice I've ever had. I ordered the Superdome & it was OUTSTANDING. The fish was perfectly cooked & seasoned. The potatoes were just right. The lobster & cream sauce that surrounded it all was decadent. I tried to get everything in every bite because those layers were the perfect combo. Everything was plated beautifully, too. Chef Jeff is truly talented & could be cooking in any top tier restaurant in the Quarter or Garden District. The fact that he chooses to build his business in his neighborhood so that anyone who wants it can experience TOP SHELF food at affordable prices is AMAZING. I applaud him & his family for the love they are pouring into their business. The passion shows & I will definitely be returning the next time I'm in NOLA. read more

The perfect hidden gem. This place combines amazing food with the best customer service you will find. The entire restaurant includes 2 tables, 2 employees and about 10 menu items and I can easily say they have MASTERED the system. The owner was out of town for the night we arrived but his to children were running the place and they blew us out of the water. Our group of 5 came here on our last night before leaving New Orleans and all agreed that it was by far the best meal of the trip. Everyone must order the Super Dome and the Bourbon Street, you will not be upset. I am determined to make it back here some day. read more

This is a relatively new place, with the goal of bringing fine New Orleans cuisine to inner city folks. It was Monday so I ordered their Red Beans and Rice. I got the order To Go. Overall, the dish looked good (see photo). However, they might consider different packaging so the beans (and sauce) don't spill in the bag on To Go orders. I thought it was a very good idea that they shielded the fried chicken by wax paper; however, the styrofoam packaging did not prevent the chicken and beans from commingling. Also, the portion of the side salad was VERY small in the compartment; maybe the equivalent of 4 bites. Plus, I asked for blue cheese dressing but received honey mustard and ranch. I was excited from prior photos for homemade cornbread but sadly what I received looked and tasted like Jiffy (but dry). As a recommendation for online orders, consider offering a pull down menu to select available types of condiments (like hot sauce) and other items like salad dressing. On a positive note... the flavor of red beans was Exquisite! Good consistency and chunks of meat. Likewise, the fried chicken was excellent. It was fried and seasoned well and was quite delicious. I will eat-in next time to get the restaurant experience. read more

For the price, I was fairly unimpressed with the "Super Dome". The dish is entirely unbalanced in composition. It appears they have a Groupon discount, which is probably inflating their score. I ordered the Super Dome. The dish is blackened fish, lobster potatoes, lobster cream sauce sweet corn and crispy onion rings. The onion rings were nice. The were thin and crispy and well-seasoned. Though, they didn't really seem to make sense with to top and already oil and carb forward dish as this. The "lobster potatoes" just tasted like mediocre mashed potatoes. They were a bit bland and very dense. They were certainly not fluffy or buttery. The lobster "sauce" seemed to be shredded imitation crab meat. I'd be legitimately surprised were I to find it it was real lobster. Though, I am open to correction on this front. The sauce was good. It's a testy, mayonnaise-forward cajun tribute. The blackened fish was not as I expected, though I am admittedly a neophyte to New Orleans blackened fish. The fish felt like a miss. They took a delicate white fish (maybe tilapia or maybe catfish, a bit less delicate in texture) and burnt seasonings onto it. There was no maillard complexity or even significant cajun flavor. The fish just tasted burnt. I was expecting a complex blend of New Orleans-esque seasoning and spices. They literally blackened the fish. Perhaps this is the style. I don't know. But it could be greatly improved. The texture within was pretty good. The fish was most and tender (but it wasn't ethereally flaky.) Overall, I felt this dish was trying to be fancy, but did not achieve the desired effect. The dish dominated with weak potatoes and a imitation seafood salad. These flavors and textures overwhelmed the fish. Perhaps that is for the best, because the fish was burnt. There were some interesting flavors going on in there, but the dish as a whole did not impress. Please consider reconstruction with lighter flavors and textures and a greater attention to the execution of the fish. read more

I've been wanting to try this place so ordered a Dat Plate on Uber eats. While it was good, I don't think it held up to all the hype. I received a boneless piece of chicken breast fried well but very spicy hot, a very small spoonful of mediocre potato salad, a nice portion of unimpressive Mac and cheese, and a small spoonful of sweetened canned peas. Probably would not order from here again. read more

Love love love! My best friend turned me out to this place she would Come every day for lunch and one day she brought me and our other friend. Now for those who are a little skittish don't worry some of the best food you will each in New Orleans storefront isn't that appealing but oh oh you'll miss out if you're like that. Now when you park either down the street or on the neutral ground you won't have a problem typically you can go inside and they lead you around or if you read this review you'll know to go straight to the back around the store and watch your step and come inside! So I got the super-dome, my best friend got the Mardi Gras mambo and our other friend got the gumbo. now everything was great the super-dome comes with onion rings(fresh) with a nice creamy sauce over fish and mash potatoes omg you'll want to eat it all help yourself don't do it. Tom got gumbo and don't be alarmed is comes with grilled cheese( childhood tradition). Now besides all that food DAY SHYT punch is amazing like oh my I haven't found anywhere that makes it quite like it I wish I could order a gallon to go. We finished our meal off sharing bread pudding and it's huge being that's it was three of us and one had a huge sweet tooth. Homemade and fresh the bread pudding is amazing. read more

Some of the best red beans and rice I've had in New Orleans. You might drive right past the place and never notice it. Has a take-out ordering area inside, and some picnic tables just outside the door on the sidewalk. Easy 5 stars. I found this place on yelp and made the executive decision that this is where we would be eating lunch. I had the Seafood Experience (or something like that) and I got fried shrimp and blackened fish and it comes with fries, BOOM! it was really good. I also tried some of the mac and cheese and chicken and it was also really good. We were well taken care of and the chef came out to say hello and check on us as well. The iced tea was also surprisingly good, I really like the lemon kick it had. Next time I'm in New Orleans, I am coming back here. This review is only for the food and service. The ambiance was 'hood' which didn't bother me. We ate outside on picnic tables and there were randoms wandering by on the street and across the street, so if you are looking for a nice looking upscale restaurant to dine in, this isn't your place. If you are looking for really good, flavorful southern food, then definitely come back and pick up a plate. I also like the name of the punch! Pro tip, bring yourself a mixer and pour up! read more

Super addictive, this is the best way to describe the food at Heard Dat Kitchen. My wife and I stopped in for lunch recently. We started with an order of Crawdat Fries. The fries were soft with a crisp outside and covered in melty cheese and a creamy crawfish sauce filled with tender pieces of crawfish. For my entrée I had the Superdome: flavorful seasoned peppery flakey fish topped with savory mashed potatoes, sweet corn, crisp onion rings, and a creamy briny lobster sauce. This is the definition of comfort food. read more

Easily the best takeout I've had. I've never stepped foot in the restaurant (thank you Uber eats) but honestly I might be a little scared to bc then I'd know how much butter was really in my meal. & for this, ignorance in truly bliss because it's so good, I don't want to know lol. My boyfriend and I ordered the Superdome & Bourbon Street Love. Both were phenomenal! We were scared the portions would be too big, but they were actually perfect for us to share off each other's plate. We were both full and our takeout trays were completely clean! Thank you heard dat kitchen team. So excited to recommend to my friends and family to order next time they're in NOLA read more

The restaurant is located in a run down neighborhood in disrepair with worn out picnic tables - in the evenings during Oct. you can sit outside without it being too stifling. They close the dining area on the inside after 5pm on the weekend, but you can still order Takeout, so you can grab your food to go w/utensils. BOURBON STREET LOVE (4/5): Chef Jeff said he used to use chicken breast & customers complained it was too dry, so he made a switch. I always prefer dark meat (chicken thigh) in comparison - it makes a big difference (the golden fried exterior coupled with 1.5 inch (thick) piece of chicken was sooo juicy) & on a bed of mac & cheese with a crawdat cream poured over with about 5 crawfish & a small scoop of potatoes (too much mustard for my liking, so I didn't eat it). Chef Jeff deserves all this success after Yelp reviews put him on other peoples' radar after his business became a tourist destination 1.5-2 years ago, which is his main business nowadays. read more

We spent a week in New Orleans and ate at a mix of restaurants all over the city. The Superdome was the best thing we ate all week.

So dont let the outside nor the inside fool you! The food is to die for!! Let me start by saying its a black owned restaurant that truly valued their customers and foods. As I walked in , I wanted to sit down to eat but I arrived after 4pm which the main restaurant was closed and I had to order for take out. I could have sat at the small take out but I really wanted to just enjoy my meal.. I was unsure what to order so a lady that was there was more willing to show me her take out and the bourbon chicken spoke to me. The lady (Tia) that works there was so sweet and offered me water . I placed my order of chicken bourbon and had to wait a lil but that didn't bother me as the wait was worth it. I am not a big fan of chicken as he can be dry and flavorless but when I tell you I took that one bite!!! I felt in heaven, the tenderness, juiciness and the flavor had my palates screaming for more... the crawfish sauce that covered the chicken and mac and cheese was like made out of love, lol It reminded me of my mom cooking and she is a great cook(using all the right seasoning and putting her soul into it) .. yes I did lick my plate Haha.. Definitely a place to go for authentic cuisine! #supportblackrestaurant read more

DAT FIRE. That's really all I have to say about Heard Dat Kitchen. For a while, I indulged in their delicious dishes and never knew where the actual location of this fine eatery was. After meeting Chef Jeff at the Black Restaurant Week Showcase a few months ago, I was finally able to put a face with a name and I immediately realized I had to visit the place myself. Turns out his eatery location is a spot I used to visit as a tot for delicious BBQ. New Orleans is truly a small world. Fast forward to today and if you hop on my foodie Instagram page, you're sure to see some Heard Dat dishes in my IG stories and splashed across my feed. After all, its only fitting that LetDatGirlEat would love a spot called Heard Dat Kitchen. From crispy fried chicken deliciousness to creamy crawdat sauce fantasies, there's no place you can go and get authentic New Orleans cuisine that is THIS good. Not sure if its the flick of Chef's wrist or a secret recipe, but the taste is unmatched. Also, the names of the dishes encompass New Orleans culture, which I love. Now on to my favorite dishes. The first dish I ever got from Heard Dat a year or two ago was the Superdome. Extremely fitting since the restaurant is not too far from the 'Dome. Blackened fish, lobster potatoes, lobster cream sauce, sweet corn and crispy onion rings on top bring together a stellar dish that is different from anything I've ever had. The Seafood Extravaganza is also a favorite. Fried fish and shrimp with crawdat fries and angel sauce make up a seafood platter grander than any that you have ever seen. You'll learn soon that Heard Dat is all about the sauce. And they do it pretty damn well. On to my absolute favorite, the Bourbon Street Love! If you attended Fried Chicken Fest last month and didn't try this dish, you were seriously sleepin'. But don't worry, you can get it any and every day at their spot! Fried chicken over mac and cheese with crawdat cream sauce with potato salad. Man..I have no words. Just go taste it. So full of flavor that a description does it no justice. And a new favorite of mine is definitely the Skeesh Salad, which I tried for the first time last Friday. Mixed greens, tomatoes, cheese, eggs, fried shrimp tossed in Skeesh sauce and onion rings. All this topped with buttermilk ranch. This ain't a salad for the health freaks, it's one for the big dawgs with real taste buds. Clearly a favorite of mine just that quickly. If you ever get the pleasure of meeting me and asking what is one spot you should visit for authentic New Orleans cuisine, especially if you're a visitor, best believe I'm telling you to visit Heard Dat Kitchen. Many see this as a "hole in the wall joint", but being that I'm from the city, I see this spot as a 5 star restaurant. For starters, if you want good food in ANY city, you'll have to visit the 'hood to get a taste anyways! Listen, go to Heard Dat for the food, but stay for that deep fried hospitality. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars based solely on the food, I WOULD. This place had the besssstttttt southern food I had in my entire time at New Orleans for my birthday weekend. And it's the one place I would go back to if I ever came back to New Orleans. Don't judge a book by its cover--even though the location and the building may not be the most inviting thing compared to the rest of the restaurants you'd see in the French Quarter, their food simply speaks for itself. Food was worth the wait. Food was worth the drive. Mu husband and I came here right before a huge group of tourists and all we could hear from their table was how delicious the food was and we couldn't agree more. Prior to visiting the south, I was not a fan of grits--but their shrimp and grits was soooooo goooood. I'd also recommend their fried chicken--the best Louisiana fried chicken I have ever had!!!!! I'm getting hungry again just thinking about the food and dessert we ordered and wish we could go back! Whether you're from Louisiana or the south or visiting from some other place, don't leave NOLA without trying Heard Dat!!! read more

Heard Dat Kitchen is in an excellent location, within walking distance of the Superdome. Parking is on street, so finding a parking spot can be more difficult during busy times. Heard Dat Kitchen offers both carry out and dine in options. My family opted to dine in. We had the Crawdat Fries, Shrimp and Grits, Red Beans and Rice, and the Mardi Gras Mambo. We also had the bread pudding for dessert. All of our food was extremely flavorful. My favorites by far were the Crawdat Fries and the Mardi Gras Mambo. The presentation was nice. And our waitress was awesome. The prices were as expected. Crawdat Fries were $8. The Red Beans and Rice and Shrimp and Grits were $10 each. The Mardi Gras Mambo was $14. They were all well worth it. Wow... just wow. Hands down my favorite meal in New Orleans and I would travel back just for Heard Dat. Seriously, check this place out. Don't sleep on Heard Dat! Mind the neighborhood, embrace the culture. Love the food and the people behind it. The staff so kind to our large group (Bach party) and the Chef even came out to make sure our food was up to standards. This restaurant was the highlight when it came to our meals during the trip. No other place in NOLA came close. The Pasta was excellent. The fish was fresh and well seasoned. The crawfish etoufee was out of this world. But the winner.... Their potato SALAD! Ya heard that. Their potato salad. Had to be a home recipe, but that was something I've never tasted before. If I could get a gallon of that, and bring it home - I would!
