Very expensive. No menus. The paper she handed me was hard to read. . I paid for my lunch $26.40. I had a piece of fish, shrimp and fries. Was good but not great for the price. No place to eat. It's a carry out unless you want to eat on the picnic tables out side. Not a great neighborhood. Hard to find parking. The lady taken my order was very nice. read more

Don't let the outside fool you, this food is amazing. I had the Bourbon Street Love and the fish was freshly fried and the Mac and cheese was cheesy goodness. It also came with delicious potato salad. They definitely showed me why Nola has some of the best food. 'Food for the Soul' Approved read more

This place is super small and ducked off. They have seating outside, but I ordered to go. The staff and service are great. The plate was a bit expensive considering you only get one piece of chicken for $13+. It includes a boneless thigh, and as you can see, this one is little like a chicken tender. It was seasoned really well, I just wish there was more. The sides were okay. read more

We decided to try this little gem of a restaurant in New Orleans after reading the Yelp reviews. It is away from the usual tourist spots but well worth it! The food was delicious. We tried the Bourbon Street Love, The Superdome, and the Red Bean plate, and each dish was absolutely amazing. For dessert we got the bread pudding that was worth every calorie. The seating is outside at picnic tables, which adds to the laid-back vibe of the place. The staff was super friendly and helpful, making us feel right at home. And much to our surprise, the chef and owner Jeff Heards, actually came out to greet us! He was so down-to-earth and personable, it was easy to see why his food is such a hit. Hands down, this was the best meal we've had in New Orleans so far. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for fantastic soul/creole food. Can't wait to go back! read more

This is definitely a hole in the wall, but the food I had was first class! I had the red beans and rice plate- the fish was perfectly seasoned, firm with a light crispy coating; the beans were creamy with just enough kick and the homemade salad dressing on the mixed greens was delicious. The order also came with a slightly sweet piece of cornbread which paired perfectly with the beans and rice. Excellent value for the money! read more

THREE TIMES! Yes, it was three times I came to this eatery during my five day stay in NOLA! All I know is that when I checked out Yelp and all the recent reviews from my fellow Elites, this place pretty much received five-star ratings and all the reviews were recent. The people have spoken and they are not lying! What I Loved: - The food is simply AMAZING! I came here with my hubs, sister and her husband, and they loved it here. My sister's husband said that his Surf and Turf was so good that his leg was shaking! I tried it and I loved the charred taste from the steak. - I'm not a big mac and cheese type of guy but the way it pairs with the fried chicken is straight up deliciousness in your mouth! - Their gumbo is great. We took our grilled cheese bread and dipped it in the gumbo and it was divine! My hubs said their gumbo is the best he has ever had! - It's a family-run business and let me tell you, they make you feel like you are part of the family! My hubs and I are now Facebook connected to the owner's daughter, Tia, and we plan on meeting in the future! As my NOLA trip came to an end, my hubs and I made it a point to eat here because truly, we had the best food here. Interestingly, as our Lyft driver was picking us up, he was dropping off another customer that looked like she too was making this place her last meal before going to the airport. Anyway, go and check them out for yourself and thank me later. read more

It was hard for me to believe that there were over 500 reviews and this place is virtually 5 star. But the truth is in the food! Don't be surprised by the looks of the building- unassuming yet tidy. You are here for.dat.food! This spot could be any five star fine dining experience you ever had. I had the "Dat Red Bean Plate" with fried fish ( you can get chicken and you can also get either choice blackened) with French bread and a fresh salad. My husband got the "Bourbon Street Love" which was a fried chicken thigh covered in creamy crawfish goodness atop a plate full of macaroni and a small potato salad. We had the tea (which was actually fruity we couldn't place the flavor) and the dat Shyte (think red /fruit punch koolaid) to drink. I love this joint, ya Heard?! read more

After meeting the owner Chef Jeff and sampling his food at Black Restaurant week sneak peek I knew I HAD to go. He told me the Superdome was one of his top sellers. This dish is comprised of Blackened Fish topped with Lobster Mashed Potatoes, Lobster Cream Sauce, Sweet Cream, and Crispy Onion Rings. Sweet dear! It is just as good as it sounds if not better. This meal was heaven on my tastebuds. The restaurant itself isn't anything as fancy and elaborate as this dish. They have a window to order your food, a few benches out front, and a few tents with tables 'round back. You can eat your food outside or take it to go. Full disclosure, in nearly 100 degree weather I 100000% took it to go, but it was worth the short wait in order to have this food. Do yourself a favor and get on down to Central City and get some food from here. It will definitely be one of the spots I will bring everyone I love who visits New Orleans. read more

This is a little hike from the French quarter in Mid City. We took the trolley car, then walked about 10 or so blocks. The red bean plate was recommended to us. So we got that with fried fish. The fish was perfectly cooked, the beans were pipping hot. A side salad had a homemade thousand island. We could have sworn grandma was cooking for us. The gal taking orders was super sweet, made us feel hella welcomed. read more

I decided to check this spot out at the end of my trip to New Orleans! I actually saw this restaurant was highly recommended on Yelp! I am surely glad I tried this place out. When we pulled up to the front it was certainly in a building that I would normally never see myself going in, it's street parking as well. When we first walked up it was different than any restaurant I had ever seen! We walking inside where we met the owner in a small little waiting room, my assumption is that area was for pickup orders. The owner then told us to follow him out back to the dining area and we were both very hesitant to follow him. When he took us to a door that lead to a small room with one waitress (The Owners Daughter) and a few tables. There was no windows which really threw me off. We were instantly greeted by our waitress where she gave us the run down on the menu along with a brief history of this restaurant. I had the Bourbon Love and my friend had the Surf and Turf we also decided to split an order of the crawfish fries. Let me say I genuinely enjoyed my meal and got full extremely fast, I wish I could've taken it home! I've been to New Orleans plenty of times and I can honestly say this was the first time I had gotten an authentic New Orleans culture experience! I loved the waitress and my food and I certainly can't wait to come back! read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Wish I would've known ahead of time what my meal actually looked & tasted like, otherwise I would've ordered from KFC because that's EXACTLY where it looks like it came from. I ordered the bourbon street again. Always flavorful. This time the potato salad was the best part. They changed the recipe. I think they add fresh dill now. So good. Also I tried the Mardi Gras plate with fried catfish. The catfish was flakly and didn't smell fishy. Very nicely prepared. Also it comes with peas on the side. The peas and the potato salad are the best I have ever had. They need a chain in every city in the US. Love this spot. read more

My hubby and I stopped by Heard Dat Kitchen while visiting NO. We drove by the building twice before realizing that's where we were going. TBH, place definitely looks sketchy. However, the young lady who took our order was very nice. We paid for our food, and waited the 15 mins in the car as they don't have it setup for inside waiting. I'll tell you what, the food was tasty, absolutely loved the Heard Dat fries, the blackened fish and the seafood spectacular. Oh and the drinks? The Dat Tea and the Dat Shyt (fruit punch) was tasty as hell. We were very pleased with the service & the food and will happily return again. read more

One of the best spots!!!! The skeesh sauce is a must as is the Superdome dish. If they've got gumbo, definitely order that too.

I'm so glad I took the time to look through the top-rated restaurants to find this gem. I couldn't stop saying, "wow...yum" while eating my meal. My husband had the shrimp and grits and I had the Super Dome, which I will now have dreams about eating again someday. The chicken was crazy good and the mac and cheese amazing. read more

I've always heard about this place, and decided to finally go today. I ordered Bourbon Street Love, and subbed the potato salad with green beans. The chicken is a chicken breast which sometimes can come out dry when fried. However, this is not the case here. The chicken breast is fried to perfection and it's juicy. I ordered a to go order, so even with the sauce on top of the chicken the skin was still crispy when I got home!! The Mac n cheese is good as well, a tad bit under seasoned, but I like that. Most places when you eat their Mac n cheese it's like eating a salt stick. So they made it just right! I also ordered the bread pudding for dessert!!! Words cannot describe how good it is. The only reason for the four stars instead of five is because of the green beans. I love green beans, and am use to them being very savory. The green beans here kind of seemed as though it had something sweet in them. All in all I'm definitely going back to try more items on the menu. Definitely a must go to spot in the city!! read more

By far, my favorite spot in New Orleans. My go to orders are the Superdome and Bourbon Street Love. The Superdome contains blackened fish, mashed potatoes, corn, and onion rings. The Bourbon Street Love is Mac and Cheese with fried chicken on top. Both meals hit! Every now and then, the food isn't as hot as I'd like, but I'm willing to overlook it because the flavor is very good. Definitely check out this spot if you're in New Orleans. read more

Absolutely great experience! I've ordered here before for pickup and had a great experience. Today we ordered lunch for a pre Mother's Day gathering. The food was ready in quickly. The staff were so sweet and friendly. They honestly have the perfect person at the register. We ordered the SuperDome, Bourbon St and bread pudding. They gave us two Dat Shyt drinks for free. So with the Bourbon St I substituted my potato salad for lobster potatoes which was a very smart decision because those potatoes were so good. The lobster meat was tender the potatoes was smooth and creamy it was just a perfect combination. The chicken was fried perfectly it did not get soggy it was nice and crispy very very very tasty. Now for the Superdome The fish was cooked to perfection the potatoes again we're very good it was just a very delicious combination. The onion rings were very good the onions were not soggy the coating was crispy it was just a delicious combination of food. The bread pudding was a melt in your mouth delicious!!!! The praline sauce along with the taste of the actual bread pudding was amazing. I would order everything again hands down deliciousness. read more

Incredible! Our best meal during our week in NOLA, better than Jacques Imo's and Luke. Rumor has it that the chef here sharpened his skills under the tutelage of Emeril Lagasse, but never advertises that fact because he wants the dishes to speak for themselves. And they certainly do. Best fried chicken and red beans and rice I've had in the South. We also ordered the blackened fish special served in a gorgeous lemon cream sauce with green beans and mashed potatoes. Worth the plane ticket from California. A few weeks later, I was at Chez Panisse and I still missed Heard Dat Kitchen. read more

Wow, this place is incredible. So glad Yelp led us to this little place off the beaten path. We took an Uber/Lyft to get here from our hotel, but it was totally worth it for the delicious lunch! I got the Bourbon Love, which was fried chicken with crawfish over the top, a side potato salad and it was so crispy, hot, flavorful and wonderful that I'm totally longing for this dish as I relive it by writing this review. The dessert? An incredible bread pudding. We split 1 and if there's any dessert to get in all of NOLA, it's here. The place is small, service friendly --- I definitely recommend going out of your way to come here! read more

A first trip to NOLA and we had lunch (and dinner to go) at Heard Dat Kitchen. The Dat Red Bean Plate with the blackened fish was absolutely to die for! The blackened fish was savory, tender, and cooked to perfection; the red beans and rice totally complimented the fish. My wife had the Skeech Shrimp, and was equally savory combined with a lightly sweet dressing on the bed of lettuce the shrimp sat on. We left with a Beet Salad, Superdome Specialty Plate, and bread pudding. OMG! So good! Tia (the owner's daughter) was friendly, helpful, informative, and delightful. She made our experience, during a deluge, worth every single bite we had. Thank you Tia! read more

What a great example of a local restaurant that really shines. We ordered for delivery Red Beans over Rice w/ fried chicken on the side, and the Shrimp Salad. Explosive flavor in every bite! I ordered the bourbon street for delivery through the Yelp app (GrubHub) and everything turned out great as I ate my still warm meal in my hotel room after a looooooong day of work. The meal was fantastic, the chicken was juicy, tender, full of flavor and was laid down on a delicious bed of Mac and cheese all covered in that delicious crawdat sauce, cheesy-seafood goodness! The food at Heard Dat is so phenomenal that we STILL remember our meal 8 years (!!!!) later. At the time, while the restaurant likely had a slightly smaller physical space, their service was friendly and welcoming. Tasted so nice that we had to have it twice. Literally. Twice in one day. My boyfriend and I wanted to get something to eat before we checked out of our Airbnb. We looked on UberEats and found this place. I got the Seafood Extravaganza and my boyfriend ordered the Super Dome. We both loved our meals. That sauce was so good with the fish and shrimp. The Crawdat fries were bomb. My boyfriend loved it so much he made us take an Uber to Heard Dat before going to the airport. I thought he was crazy because I we pretty much went out of the way for this food but his logic was he wanted to eat it on the plane and not have to pay just as much for crappy airport food. He was right. There we were, sitting on sketchy Felicity St with all our luggage getting another round of Super Dome and Seafood Extravaganza meals. But, the uber ride out of the way was worth it because the food hit the spot on that plane ride back home. read more

My wife and I ordered from here through DoorDash during our trip to New Orleans. The food was pretty good. I had the red beans and rice that came with a piece of fried chicken, cornbread and salad. I felt like I was a kid eating in my Grandmother's home again as the flavors reminded me of her cooking. She grew up in Louisiana and brought up my mother and aunts and uncles as well as us grandkids she babysat with this type of cooking. My wife had the chicken with mac and cheese and she liked it.
