First off I'm from Houston,TX and this was only my second trip to New Orleans (I get consistently shamed for this). Second, I actually visited this restaurant February 2020, but didn't realize I never finished the review, lol. I saw this restaurant online and made a point to stop by. Both the food and the staff were amazing. The location was a little off-putting to be honest, but the chef and his daughter more than made up for it. I'm not big on deep fried foods and that was no problem at all. Grilled, flavorful and fresh everything was amazing. Pretty solid local place serving no frills southern foods. Small building where you order at the takeout window and can eat at some outdoor benches. Got the shrimp and grits which were pretty good and had a nice southern flavor and a solid amount of shrimp. I kind of wished the shrimp were a little bigger and it could have used some extra sharpness to it, like some green onions or something that would have helped to balance the dish out and add some color. But still pretty good for $10. Also I know people say this neighborhood is sketchy or whatever but if you're driving or just walking during the day it's really fine and not too much different from the rest of NOLA (so just expect some bad roads and drifters like usual). read more

Wow!!! Best Ever!!! I've lived in New Orleans for two years now and me and my wife each week try to find a new place that's authentic New Orleans. This place is the best we have found since we lived here. It's in a rough looking area and restaurant is hard to find but it's worth the adventure. We tried 7 different dishes and they were all amazing. We were told the Chef, Jeffery Heard, was trained by another famous New Orleans Chef named Emerald. Also get the Dat Shyt fruit punch. Overrated. I really don't understand these 5-star reviews. Let me give you the real deal. Disclaimer: I took advantage of a Groupon. When the cashier handed me the bag I thought this bag sure is light. I'm so glad I had a Groupon. The dish looked great, looked like restaurant quality. However, I make better mac and cheese. The mac was a step above Kraft. The chicken was fried perfectly. It was very tender and juicy, but something was missing. The crawfish sauce was good, but they don't give you a lot, or at least I didn't get enough sauce to combat the dry mac and enhance the chicken. The potato salad was very good, but they only gave me two tablespoons. What the? I bake so I know what two tbsps look like. Lastly, the punch was horrible. I was expecting something akin to the ghetto punch from Wing Snack, but this stuff tasted like water. Not watered-down Kool Aid, WATER. And why it's called Dat Sh** on the menu boggles my mind. I know it's in the hood, but shouldn't we be lifting the neighborhood up? The drink I had today should be called Dat Crap. Actually, Dat Sh** works too. I don't know if this was an off day, but they need to step up their game. Thankfully I have another voucher to give'em another shot. Yelper reviews and the guy in line ahead of me had me thinking hard about ordering the Superdome, but it sounded like way more food than I needed for lunch. A friend at home who's from New Orleans had tasked me with eating shrimp & grits for her, so on this day, I obliged. GURRRL, I told her, here dey are! I'd never had corn in S&G, but it works! The grits are creamy and the shrimp are bathed in delicious sauce. When I got home I put a little bit of salt on it, but otherwise they're perfect! The girls behind the counter are sweet and patient with first-timers. Right now the place consists of only an inside order window and a few tables on the sidewalk outside; a sign said they're working on an indoor seating area. I took a seat outside to wait, and the girls kept me posted on my order; it took awhile, but DAMN, it was worth it. Found this place on yelp and it's a diamond in the rough for real. We arrived at about 6ish and the area doesn't look that safe. We caught and Uber there and to our surprise there is no inside seating after 4 pm but there are tables and chairs outside. Again.......it isn't the safest area. There was another couple sitting outside so we joined them and it was still daylight. This was the first stop we visited on our trip to New Orleans and quite honestly, maybe the best restaurant we ate at during our trip. It's definitely a hole in the wall, but where they lack aesthetically they make up majorly in flavor. We were greeted promptly by the owner's daughter Tia who also served as our waitress. She was so friendly and welcoming! They only have two tables on the inside, so we opted to sit at one of the few tables on the outside. Our entrees included the superdome (blackened fish with lobster potatoes, corn, lobster sauce and onion rings), superdome with shrimp and the bourbon street love ( fried chicken over macaroni and cheese topped with "crawdat" sauce). We also tried their drink "dat shyt" which is a delicious fruit punch concoction. My entree was the superdome and when I tell you, I fell in love with each bite!!!! I swear! The flavors were orgasmic and I ate every bite. The lobster chunks were a nice size, the potatoes were creamy and the fish was cooked perfectly. I also sampled the bourbon street love and it was fantastic as well. Chef Jeff came out to greet us and was even gracious enough to take a few pics. Listen!!!!!! When I say I'm so happy I found this spot a few years (2019) ago when I was visiting! Forgot how I found it but I did, it's all I've thought about when I go back! My twin too, we said we had to make sure this was a for sure stop when we came back in February for our birthday! I loved the food I got here! I got the dat fries and two types of wings - skeesh wings and the buffalo wings. Everything was amazing!! Out of the two wings I liked the skeesh wings just a little bit more. Next time I'll probably just order a full order of them. Visited New Orleans last weekend and was excited to try this restaurant after reading all of the rave reviews. They were only doing takeout so we called in our order and headed over to the restaurant to pick it up. This is definitely a hole in the wall but the food is on point! It was not the best meal of our trip but definitely worth going back next time we're in town. We were unable to sit down inside the restaurant due to COVID protocols so I can't speak to what service is like but the lady working the takeout window was very pleasant. This just became my favorite place in New Orleans! And I've been around this city multiple times. Definitely a small hole-in-the-wall, but the food is out of this world. Any reviews less than five stars doesn't make any sense now that I have been here. They complain about portion size or a soggy order after an UberEats driver picked it up and drove it to them. Of course it's gonna be soggy after that, lol. Get off your rear and get there...our portions were large and more than enough to have leftovers. Their food is absolutely delicious and there is a crawfish cream sauce that coats many items that I wanted to lick off of the plate. Had the "Superdome" which is a blackened fish, lobster sauce mashed potato, and onion rings, and the "Seafood extravaganza" of fried fish and shrimp with crawfish fries. The chef also sent out some crawfish cornbread to start the meal, a piece of cornbread with their crawfish cream sauce on it. First the superdome, with all its flavors combined, tastes like a surf and turf because of the great blackening spices and onion ring accompaniment. The fish had the perfect amount of spices, and was cooked to perfection. The fried fish in the extravaganza was similar with a light/medium style batter and cooked perfectly. I usually am not as big a fan of shrimp if there is fish on the plate, but this is the only exception I've ever found. The fried shrimp were absolutely delicious and the batter had a bit of spice that made it special. I forgot the name of the dipping sauce they had, but it was tangy and complimented the shrimp so well. I really can't speak more highly of this place if you want a representation of some of the best New Orleans cooking. Don't look any further. read more

I had the super done entree and WOW! This was easily my best meal on my most recent visit to New Orleans. Everything in the super dome is cooked to absolute perfection! I've never been to NOLA before today, and after being in this city for 37 minutes I found a place that felt like home and tatsted even better. A co-worker and I flew in for a conference. We decided to not eat anything until we landed, because we wanted to strictly save our calorie consumption for NOLA. Our stomachs were knocking on our backs we were so hungry, but I wanted to find a spot that was authentic to this area. Anthony Bourdain, whose work I love, has publicly stated how much he hates Yelp--but without it I wouldn't have found this spot. He also believes in eating where the locals eat--so do I. This was a truly local spot. It is a hole in the wall, and you should expect to get takeout (we didn't know this and came with the expectation of sitting and eating; however, the staff mentioned an expansion soon to come). When I say this place has soul, I mean it's a place where folks were free to be themselves--it's authentic, warm, and unlike the commercial establishments we drove by to get here. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and some of the patrons even helped us pick two of their favorite dishes. It felt like we lived here. After ordering and receiving our meal (to-go), I was impressed with the presentation. Whoever the Chef is, he is the real deal. This was not just thrown together despite being takeout. I ordered the Superdome, and once I returned to the hotel I took a bite. Goooood Lawd Almighty. I could eat that everyday. Rich and creamy, but well-spiced. So my family and I flew out from California to see what New Orleans was all about, and everything about this place is amazing. The food, the culture, and the people make this place feel like you wanna be here. Since we've been here we have dined at multiple spots all around the area. Today we decided to go with Heard Dat because they were receiving so much attention and support we had to check it out. I went in to order the lady at the front was super sweet and helpful and got everything together quick. I got the Seafood Extravaganza with a side of Mac and potato salad. When the food came out one of the people working there I wish I got her name but she brought our food out told us about what we got and even opened up the bags that were packed in and handed us everything grabbed us utensils talked to us and made us feel super welcome. lemme tell you this was some of the most flavorful and intense food I've ever had in my life. so I'm not used to southern food so I had no idea what I was getting into but since I've been here all I've had was flavor flavor and more flavor. the fried fish was super crispy and spicy and still moist. Came with these loaded fries with This super creamy sauce and also fried shrimp which hit the spot. the Mac and cheese was some of the best I had and it wasn't even anything crazy it was just flavorful asf. and that potato salad i can't believe I'm saying it but it was one of my favorite things I had. and I got this drink called dat shyt i think which was fruit punch mixed with tea and man that was the perfect pair with this food. I'll give Heard Dat a 5 must eat only because there making 4 start food out of a 1 star shack. We missed it and walked passed without even knowing. The Superdome is really what earns the score. It should be plated on porcelain but instead comes on foil in a Styrofoam box. It really had an exceptional balance of spice and salt. Not fishy at all and full of flavor. The lobster and corn bring in some nice sweetness. The scratch-made mashed aren't over whipped and add texture along with the onion rings crunch. The bread pudding was also nice the rich caramel sauce being the star. If possible try the mashed potato salad but only if you're a fan of yellow mustard different interesting good. read more

It's really small so don't bring a party of more than 4 and expect to dine in. While visiting New Orleans, I had to look up of course what were some of the top soul food/creole places to dine at and nothing that is a tourist trap. Well my friends lol this place is FAR from a tourist trap in fact it's located in a pretty rough area of New Orleans but that's exactly what I wanted. You can never go wrong with some food in the hood! My friends and I located this place on YELP and headed on over once we stopped drooling over all the previously posted pictures. When we arrived we were a bit confused because it looks as though we were going to be eating inside of a tire shop but no it was just located next door. I was a bit apprehensive to even get out of the car but it was daylight and I was with a group so the fears were more at ease. However, I wouldn't suggest that as a tourist you'd come here like alone at night.. The inside is very small but they somehow figured a way to fit two tables with maybe about 6-7 chairs so we made it work! When it's time to place your order it is through this umm cage kind of thing that has bars which was a little off but anyways the young lady who took our order was so sweet and actually came out to be our server. The dishes that they offered were endless of tasty seafood options and even when describing the chef's special of the day I was sold! My groups order consisted of... "Crawdat Fries"- French fries w/ cheese & creamy crawdat cream sauce. (My order)"Super Dome"- Blackened Fish, Lobster Potatoes, Lobster Cream Sauce, Sweet Corn & Crispy Onion Rings. "Mardi Gras Mambo"- Fish Topped w/ Cheese & CRawdat Cream Sauce (Peas & Potato Salad) Chef's Special- Can't remember what exactly it was but it was GOOD! Check the pictures out. We all ordered a drink called "Dat Shyt" which was explained to us as a beverage that was named this by the locals in the neighborhood lmao this drink basically was like red koolaid of some sort with an addition of whatever special ingredients that they add.. not too sweet and made Just right! It's in a non-descript building. There's a lot going on inside. Still not exactly sure of everything they do there, but the service was great. Tia took good care of us.
