I'll never not go here. Second trip and experience wasn't quite as life changing as the first but still some of the best food of the trip.
This is absolutely some of the best gumbo I've ever had. The flavors were literally eyes-rolling-to-the-back-of-my-head type of good. Unfortunately, Yelp did not eat first with this one (I didn't get to take a picture of it). It came with a grilled cheese and potato salad! All the pricing online is accurate, there is street parking right in front of the restaurant with outdoor seating, and the food came out very quickly. I wouldn't really come to this restaurant to hang out with friends for a dinner since it's kind of small. But it's definitely one of those places that if you're in the area and wanting to pick up some soul food, you should DEFINITELY come here and get some.
After a long day of travel to get to NOLA, I was too pooped to go out and hit the streets tonight for dinner. Ordered DoorDash from HDK on the cred of the many positive Yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. Tried two dishes, as I couldn't settle on one. The fried fish and shrimp were outstanding! Loved the dipping sauce and the seafood was cooked perfectly. The fish fillet was about an inch thick and so moist and flaky. Yum! Not sure I loved the fries with the crawdat sauce - they were a little salty. This ff dish kinda gives poutine vibes with the gravy. The Superdome was also tasty. I liked the fried fish better than the blackened, but the mashed potatoes and corn and sauce draped over the fish was rich and delicious. This fish was much thinner and a little chewy. I'd love a hybrid of Superdome using the thicker fried fish. Bread pudding was my dessert, warm and dripping in caramel/brown sugar sauce. I had to restrain myself from eating the whole thing! This was a perfect way to start my visit to the Big Easy.
We dined at quite a few restaurants during our stay in New Orleans; however, this hidden gem was hands-down the BEST (we even recommended it to our Uber driver!). The restaurant is tiny, but don't let that fool you: the portions were plentiful, and the taste was unlike anything I've experienced before! Quick and friendly service, southern hospitality. It's definitely on our list of places to visit when we return!
There's a lot of good food in New Orleans but there's only one heard dat kitchen. I found this spot on accident 5 years ago and it's been blessing me and my homegirls ever since! It's a little hole in the wall spot that probably can't hold more than 6 people inside so you know the food is going to be bussin! It's probably best you take it home anyway so you can make all the noises that you need to make comfortably without being judged lol You have to try them for yourself! When I tell yall I came here two days in a row because I was having withdrawals, I really mean that. I highly recommend the seafood extravaganza! I promise you will not be disappointed and If you are let me know so I can look you in your face and call you a liar. Shout out to my girl Esther that took care of me and I'll see yall when I'm back in town
super flavorful and definitely worth it. The service was good and everyone was friendly. The space inside is a bit small and tight, but once the food comes out, you forget all about that. I'll definitely be back!
So you land in New Orleans, stand in the heat waiting for an Uber at the airport, and finally make it to your hotel room after checking in at the front desk. You sink onto the couch in your room. Your stomach growls. But it is too late for breakfast and past lunch, almost dinner time. But you want to eat, now. What do you do? You hop on Uber Eats, scroll and find "Heard Dat Kitchen", order a few items, and it ends up being one of the best meals you've had in New Orleans and maybe one of the best meals you've ever had in your life. Everything I ordered on Uber Eats here (catfish over red beans and rice with cornbread and extra side of cornbread with Crawdat sauce) was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, delivered quickly, and piping hot, so you know it was fresh. Don't even question it, add it to your list of restaurants to try out.
There's no way that the wings that you guys are providing are THIS SMALL. These are the smallest "wings" I've ever seen in my LIFE. Complete ripoff.

Dropped in for dinner on this place after reading the reviews on several sites. The menu is small but I found myself struggling to choose which dish to eat. Lots of good looking choices. I settled in on the bourbon street chicken over mac and cheese with a side of bread pudding and a glass of dat shyt. There aren't a lot of seats at night. I think its mostly takeout. The cashier said they have another seating area during the day. However we were able to find a seat outside. The food came out quickly and we even received a visit from the owner to ask how the food was and to thank us for coming. That was awesome! The chicken was delicious and I would highly recommend it. The bread pudding was also good and was eaten so fast I didnt get a picture. My only complaint and it's a small one is that all the drink options contained sugar. Maybe a few more drink options like unsweet tea. read more
Holy crap this food is amazing! Had the super dome signature dish which was blackened fish with lobster cream sauce and add mash potatoes and corn. The best soul food in New Orleans. It is a pretty dangerous neighborhood the cashier is behind bars to prevent a thief and while we were waiting for food there were two different people that came in asking for cigarettes or money. We got a groupon and you got two vouchers (you can only use one at time-but still worth it). It appears to be only take out. We also got the bread pudding which had the best sauce!!! Literally the best place... We just finished food but I want more right now! Update: i didn't think it could get any better but I literally had the best the best fried chicken on Mac and cheese called the bourbon street special. I went on a Tuesday and they had the Superdome for only 10$! The place is great! Also they have a groupon where if you get two 10$ vouchers for 12$. This is my third time in NOLA and second time at Heard Dat Kitchen and lawdddddd this place is HEAVENLY. Now I love me some good food and I always struggle to find it in Nawlins (yes I know it's the food Mecca blah blah) but I can always count on this place to make me happy. I said I would be back in Oct and I sureee did and the waitress (owner's daughter) remembered. She also remembered exactly what I ordered from three months ago. Where else will you ever find that level of attention. Anyways I brought my best friend here and she fell in love. I got the exact same plate as last time and my sweet tea. I'll be back in February and right back here to eat. read more

* updated pic I wanted to rate because I'm from Louisiana & i love soul food! I also came here due to all the yelp reviews! First the service is impeccable, very sweet ladies that waited on me. I got the red beans, with blackened chicken! 11/10 Mac & cheese 8/10 Potato salad 5/10 (i don't like a lot of relish is why) if you do you'd love it. The area isn't as terrible as a person in a later review said. Delicious food & amazing service. I'll be back next time I'm in Nola. read more

Pretty solid local place serving no frills southern foods. Small building where you order at the takeout window and can eat at some outdoor benches. Got the shrimp and grits which were pretty good and had a nice southern flavor and a solid amount of shrimp. I kind of wished the shrimp were a little bigger and it could have used some extra sharpness to it, like some green onions or something that would have helped to balance the dish out and add some color. But still pretty good for $10. Also I know people say this neighborhood is sketchy or whatever but if you're driving or just walking during the day it's really fine and not too much different from the rest of NOLA (so just expect some bad roads and drifters like usual). read more

Wow!!! Best Ever!!! I've lived in New Orleans for two years now and me and my wife each week try to find a new place that's authentic New Orleans. This place is the best we have found since we lived here. It's in a rough looking area and restaurant is hard to find but it's worth the adventure. We tried 7 different dishes and they were all amazing. We were told the Chef, Jeffery Heard, was trained by another famous New Orleans Chef named Emerald. Also get the Dat Shyt fruit punch. I got the gumbo and the Super dome both were awesome. I highly recommend this place read more

Overrated. I really don't understand these 5-star reviews. Let me give you the real deal. Disclaimer: I took advantage of a Groupon. When the cashier handed me the bag I thought this bag sure is light. I'm so glad I had a Groupon. The dish looked great, looked like restaurant quality. However, I make better mac and cheese. The mac was a step above Kraft. The chicken was fried perfectly. It was very tender and juicy, but something was missing. The crawfish sauce was good, but they don't give you a lot, or at least I didn't get enough sauce to combat the dry mac and enhance the chicken. The potato salad was very good, but they only gave me two tablespoons. What the? I bake so I know what two tbsps look like. Lastly, the punch was horrible. I was expecting something akin to the ghetto punch from Wing Snack, but this stuff tasted like water. Not watered-down Kool Aid, WATER. And why it's called Dat Sh** on the menu boggles my mind. I know it's in the hood, but shouldn't we be lifting the neighborhood up? The drink I had today should be called Dat Crap. Actually, Dat Sh** works too. I don't know if this was an off day, but they need to step up their game. Thankfully I have another voucher to give'em another shot. Chicken thigh, mac and cheese, potato salad with some crawfish sprinkling. I've participated in enough church/family suppers/fundraisers to know that these are not expensive ingredients and certainly not worth $14. read more

From the first bite to the last my chicken was crispy and well seasoned. Everything was delicious. I didn't have to add anything!!! That's big for me. You can tell that they really care about the customer experience. And this wasn't my first time eating there. I've NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED. Cheffy food out of a Styrofoam container? Don't knock it til you've tried it! Heard Dat is one of dozens of hole-in-the-wall kitchens you find in the, shall we say, not-so-touristy neighborhoods all over New Orleans. But behind this order window (and right now there's not much more) is some SERIOUS southern cookin' goin' on! Yelper reviews and the guy in line ahead of me had me thinking hard about ordering the Superdome, but it sounded like way more food than I needed for lunch. A friend at home who's from New Orleans had tasked me with eating shrimp & grits for her, so on this day, I obliged. GURRRL, I told her, here dey are! I'd never had corn in S&G, but it works! The grits are creamy and the shrimp are bathed in delicious sauce. When I got home I put a little bit of salt on it, but otherwise they're perfect! The girls behind the counter are sweet and patient with first-timers. Right now the place consists of only an inside order window and a few tables on the sidewalk outside; a sign said they're working on an indoor seating area. I took a seat outside to wait, and the girls kept me posted on my order; it took awhile, but DAMN, it was worth it. I'll come back hungrier next time for that Superdome, some Crawdat Fries, and with a friend to help me eat it all! read more

This was the first stop we visited on our trip to New Orleans and quite honestly, maybe the best restaurant we ate at during our trip. It's definitely a hole in the wall, but where they lack aesthetically they make up majorly in flavor. We were greeted promptly by the owner's daughter Tia who also served as our waitress. She was so friendly and welcoming! They only have two tables on the inside, so we opted to sit at one of the few tables on the outside. Our entrees included the superdome (blackened fish with lobster potatoes, corn, lobster sauce and onion rings), superdome with shrimp and the bourbon street love ( fried chicken over macaroni and cheese topped with "crawdat" sauce). We also tried their drink "dat shyt" which is a delicious fruit punch concoction. My entree was the superdome and when I tell you, I fell in love with each bite!!!! I swear! The flavors were orgasmic and I ate every bite. The lobster chunks were a nice size, the potatoes were creamy and the fish was cooked perfectly. I also sampled the bourbon street love and it was fantastic as well. Chef Jeff came out to greet us and was even gracious enough to take a few pics. You can tell he's really passionate about what he does and is grateful for his customers. Please don't be fooled by the outside appearances. RUN to this restaurant while in New Orleans and your tastebuds will thank me later. read more

Kinda pricey but we didn't mind because we are hungry and want something good. Ordered via phone, customer service ok. Visited New Orleans last weekend and was excited to try this restaurant after reading all of the rave reviews. They were only doing takeout so we called in our order and headed over to the restaurant to pick it up. This is definitely a hole in the wall but the food is on point! It was not the best meal of our trip but definitely worth going back next time we're in town. We were unable to sit down inside the restaurant due to COVID protocols so I can't speak to what service is like but the lady working the takeout window was very pleasant. We always make it a point to support local neighborhood restaurants wherever we travel and recommend adding this place to your New Orleans experience! read more

This just became my favorite place in New Orleans! And I've been around this city multiple times. Definitely a small hole-in-the-wall, but the food is out of this world. Any reviews less than five stars doesn't make any sense now that I have been here. They complain about portion size or a soggy order after an UberEats driver picked it up and drove it to them. Of course it's gonna be soggy after that, lol. Get off your rear and get there...our portions were large and more than enough to have leftovers. Their food is absolutely delicious and there is a crawfish cream sauce that coats many items that I wanted to lick off of the plate. Had the "Superdome" which is a blackened fish, lobster sauce mashed potato, and onion rings, and the "Seafood extravaganza" of fried fish and shrimp with crawfish fries. The chef also sent out some crawfish cornbread to start the meal, a piece of cornbread with their crawfish cream sauce on it. First the superdome, with all its flavors combined, tastes like a surf and turf because of the great blackening spices and onion ring accompaniment. The fish had the perfect amount of spices, and was cooked to perfection. The fried fish in the extravaganza was similar with a light/medium style batter and cooked perfectly. I usually am not as big a fan of shrimp if there is fish on the plate, but this is the only exception I've ever found. The fried shrimp were absolutely delicious and the batter had a bit of spice that made it special. I forgot the name of the dipping sauce they had, but it was tangy and complimented the shrimp so well. I really can't speak more highly of this place if you want a representation of some of the best New Orleans cooking. Don't look any further. read more

I had the super done entree and WOW! This was easily my best meal on my most recent visit to New Orleans. Everything in the super dome is cooked to absolute perfection! After a few days eating at restaurants in the touristy French quarter area this was exactly what I needed. The bread pudding is to die for! Easily the best bread pudding I have ever had in my life. Heard Dat is a gem that feels so New Orleans. I can't wait to come back on my next visit to the city! read more

I've never been to NOLA before today, and after being in this city for 37 minutes I found a place that felt like home and tatsted even better. A co-worker and I flew in for a conference. We decided to not eat anything until we landed, because we wanted to strictly save our calorie consumption for NOLA. Our stomachs were knocking on our backs we were so hungry, but I wanted to find a spot that was authentic to this area. Anthony Bourdain, whose work I love, has publicly stated how much he hates Yelp--but without it I wouldn't have found this spot. He also believes in eating where the locals eat--so do I. This was a truly local spot. It is a hole in the wall, and you should expect to get takeout (we didn't know this and came with the expectation of sitting and eating; however, the staff mentioned an expansion soon to come). When I say this place has soul, I mean it's a place where folks were free to be themselves--it's authentic, warm, and unlike the commercial establishments we drove by to get here. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and some of the patrons even helped us pick two of their favorite dishes. It felt like we lived here. After ordering and receiving our meal (to-go), I was impressed with the presentation. Whoever the Chef is, he is the real deal. This was not just thrown together despite being takeout. I ordered the Superdome, and once I returned to the hotel I took a bite. Goooood Lawd Almighty. I could eat that everyday. Rich and creamy, but well-spiced. Filling, but not to the point where you feel like crap for overeating. Flavorful, fresh, and just damn good. I will be going here again before I leave and everytime I am in NOLA! Thank you! read more

I salivated over the Yelp pictures of this place for days before arriving in the foodie heaven that is New Orleans after stumbling across it. Our airport transfer driver warned us that this place is in the hood, but I would've ventured out had I not been day drunk because it's my birthday =). Yay for UberEATS. The food tastes even better than it looks. How does UberEATS delivery arrive still full of flavor, hot, and plated as though I were at a high end restaurant instead of my hotel room? The Superdome is delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly, the sauce was amazing, and the onion rings on top offered the perfect textural contrast. A round two may be coming tomorrow. I'm sure this is already listed somewhere but the website has me confused. The restaurant website gives hours for every day of the week but says dining is only 11-4 on Tuesday through Saturday. Are they open for dinner on Saturdays?
Yes they are open for dinner until 9pm.
Menu says Uber eats, but I try searching for it, doesn't come up. How do you set up Uber eats to deliver?
We have Uber eats and Waitr for deliver services. You have to be within a certain mile radius for them to deliver!
