HEAR Center is great. I'm a current patient and the staff has been accommodating from the get-go. To be honest, I contacted 2 other hearing centers prior to the HEAR Center and they could not figure out my insurance. The HEAR Center knew exactly what to do and got me an appointment immediately. I saw Dr. Arroyo and she is fantastic. She was attentive to my needs and understood my concerns. She provided me with options for hearing devices and listened to what my preferences are. She recommended the perfect ones. Upon receiving my hearing devices, she saw me frequently after the delivery to adjust the devices. She made sure I was comfortable with my aids and informed me to call her anytime I needed help with them. She answered all my concerns and questions. Dr. Arroyo is a great audiologist, personable and also very professional. I highly recommend her and this office. read more

Very sensitive and empathetic staff! I went in with my elderly mother that was completely distraught, depressed, and anxious because the tubes of her hearing aids were clogged, stiff, and no longer able stay attached to her hearing aids. As a result , she was essentially deaf. The doctor was able to squeeze her in and replaced the tubes. We are so very grateful. We are planning to transfer her care to the center as soon as possible. I have taken my mom to several doctors and clinics over the ears and this is the first time that I feel that my Mother was treated with the respect and patience she deserves. Highly recommend! A front desk receptionist even used the Live Transcribe App on her cell phone. read more

I was referred to Hear Center by our primary doctor. Our son was 2+ years and was not speaking. Was not sure what to expect from speech therapy and was not sure if it would even work. Gave them a chance because insurance covered it and they were open after work. After 2 sessions with our therapist Evelyn, he went from 0 to 100. His word bank and pronunciation grew so fast after a few months. Sadly COVID stopped in person sessions and we continued with online sessions. Evelyn was super friendly, patient, and always catered his sessions to the things he liked (cars and puzzles). I am so happy we had her. People told me it would not help but I am glad we did it. If insurance covers it, I totally recommend coming here! read more

My daughter went to the Hear Center for speech therapy for 7 years, from age 2 1/2 to 9 1/2, and received absolutely amazing support! We are so happy that she has "graduated" from Speech therapy, but will miss the therapists and staff there. It was a shame we did not get to say good bye in person as she had been receiving virtual therapy in the past year due to COVID. Our daughter had a few therapists over the years, but nowhere near the turnover other Speech therapy when our daughter started Speech therapy at age 2 and before we found the Hear Center. And we'll been working with the Office Manager (Debbie), Controller (Berenice) and Director (Ellen) all 7 years! The consistency and support has been amazing, and we look forward to attending future Hear Center events (Fall Harvest Festival being our favorite) once the COVID restrictions are gone! read more

HEAR Center provide free screening services for a large age range from pre-K through the elderly. The staff conduct off-site screenings at schools and care centers with immediate results. They also provide further evaluations for some results. They have audiologists and speech pathologists on site at the clinic to provide hearing and speech services. The staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable! read more

I was referred to the hear center by my sons primary doctor. We were trying to get some tests done on his ears since we realized he was having some hearing deficits. My son is 1 1/2 years old. The initial exam concluded with the need for yet another referral to another specialist, per the staff that saw my son that day. Fast forward three weeks and I haven't heard back from anyone about this referral and whether or not it was approved. So I call the primary doctor and the office tells me that they haven't heard from the hear center and I should contact them. I call the hear center and they tell me that I should contact my primary care physician. Of course this is a pretty common back-and-forth when you're dealing with different doctors, I understand that. The problem is that the hear center didn't communicate clearly to the primary doctor. And during our discussion about what was expected, I wasn't informed that I would have to personally relay the information to my son's primary care physician. When I reached out to Philip he responded in a very condescending manner when I requested that in the future they include specific instructions and expectations in their emails along with any test results. This way we avoid the situation moving forward. His response was a condescending apology for "my" confusion. There's a level of respect compassion and support that you expect from your providers and the entire staff, Phillip, you missed the mark. Thankfully the person on the phone, I'm sorry I don't remember her name, she was much more helpful and supportive and offered to reach out to the primary care physician herself to get this cleared up. I tend to not bother my doctor offices because I know how busy they are, and I trust that they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. This has been a lesson for myself, not all providers are professional. read more

This place treats children, more power to them. I have had nothing but bad luck here. From springing for the "best" hearing aids out there -- to the tune of a $7000 purchase forward, -- everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and even if people seem like they're nice all the time, my problems never get solved. The sound never gets balanced properly. The hearing aids just plug up my ears and feel like I'm screaming into a tunnel. Four times in a row I asked for wax cars and got none (over a period of less than six weeks). So I take my wax guards and soak them in peroxide so that I can get them clean enough so that I can reuse them?! WTH?! They can't figure out what to do with anything that's not ordinary. I'm done. I have to find some other place. read more

Our 3 year old daughter has been receiving speech services with Hear Center. When she started services, she could only utter a few words. Now, about a year and a half later, she is speaking in complete sentences, with animation and expression! This is thanks to Hear Center and the amazing therapists there. Our last therapist was Michelle. She did an incredible job building a connection with our daughter and strengthening her speech and vocabulary skills each week. My daughter (age 10) has been a speech client of Hear Center since April 2015. Although it did take some time to receive an initial speech evaluation appointment, we are so happy with the service that we receive. Hear Center has a friendly environment while maintaining confidentiality. My daughter has a bit of anxiety of working with speech therapist because she's had a few negative experiences at other centers. However, each week she is excited to work with her therapist, Meline, at Hear Center. Meline is fabulous! She incorporates games and fun activities into my daughter's therapy. She always has a smile and a positive attitude. According to my daughter, "Sometimes therapists smile, but it doesn't seem real. I like Meline because she's happy and seems like she cares." I enjoy that I can watch and listen to my daughter's therapy session on a monitor. I feel like when I am in the room she can be easily distracted so the monitors are great. I also appreciate receiving written reports that state my daughter's progress towards her speech goals. Keep up the great work, Hear Center! read more

well, not sure how to write this I understand most people who ARE satisfied, will not post POSITIVE REVIEWS as much as people ARE NOT satisfied will leave posts that are complaining or negative. I also understand most people will not read messages that are too long, and I hope this message finds it's way to as many people as possible... anyways, I will give some history... I have had a relationship with THE HEAR CENTER' for more then 20 years. My daughter had been a patient for that long as she was diagnosed when she was 5... We LOVED Hear Center. Debbie was always awesome, considerate, compassionate and willing to do whatever it takes to keep my daughter happy and hearing... It is with that sentiment and sadness that I have to submit this negative review. BTW, I too have been diagnosed with hearing loss and am supposed to be wearing hearing aids also, but, when my daughters hearing aids broke down after 10 years, I gave her my hearing aids, and I have gotten by ever since without them... (my priorities, with the limited $ dictate my daughter's hearing is worst then mine and she would not have been able to 'GET BY' like I can. Anyways, my daugher grew up, got married and moved a bit further away and now has a different AUDIOLOGIST. (and I was upset she was unwilling to drive a half hour to maintain the relationship with the Hear Center, but it was her choice. FAST FORWARD TO MY CURRENT ISSUE... I got my original hearing aids back from my daughter, (yes they are now old as hell). Those hearing aids are covered under a third party insurance, (ESCO), and the paperwork said I needed to go to Hear Center for maintenance issues. Im guessing I could switch that to another Audiologist, but wanted to maintain the relationship with HEAR CENTER since we had nothing but good things to say about them. BUT, the problems soon arose... They wouldn't even make an initial appointment. (i hadnt seen them in over 10 years). They needed insurance approval first. wtf??? what if i had no insurance and was paying cash??? but, ok, I contacted my insurance and they sent me approval for a different audiologist, (in my approved network of providers)... I appealed and requested an approval for an OUT OF NETWORK provider.... it took almost 5 weeks to get that approval, but, finally I got it, (last thursday)... I contacted them and they told me the codes on the authorization were incorrect... and would need to get them fixed prior to making the appointment. IT WAS THEIR POLICY... The front desk person although POLITE, showed little understanding and borderline condescending while she attempted to explain it AGAIN. I requested to speak with Debbie, as I was sure she would remember me and be able to help me, as I was only asking for them to SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, which would probably be at least 2+ weeks, probably more? they were unwilling to schedule the appointment, while awaiting for the 'correct code') assuming the code was IN FACT INCORRECT, (as Im not sure who made the mistake, i.e. my insurance co or T.H.C.?) Debbie did little to help me out except to explain why they had the policy.... i.e. if they did make an appt, there would be a chance the referral would not happen in time, and in the past, other patients have gotten upset that the appt had to be cancelled and rescheduled and would end up "YELLING AT THEIR OFFICE STAFF". I again explained to them, that I wasn't other people, and that I would not be YELLING or otherwise be upset, if in fact my insurance company didnt respond within the period of time where I would be waiting for my appt time... and instead of YELLING at them in some future hypothetical time that we are NOW HAVING THIS DISCUSSION, where they aren't listening to me where I explained to them that I wouldnt be upset, and would assure THC that I have been with my insurance company for over 15 years, and am on first name basis with my insurance representative from that office and that the issues with any CODES would be resolved in a timely manner and the worst case would be that the appt would be cancelled and my assurance I would not be upset with the Hear Center. but, they drew a LINE IN THE SAND and relied upon their policy...to which I said, 'good day'. They lost a patient, (two patients). Their inability to listen to patients, (i.e. not just give them time to speak, but rather TO LISTEN). they were in a position to not lose any money. incur no loss of time, (except the 15 minutes it took to have them state their policy three times) now, they lost two patients, (created hardship for one patient, myself), and will get this negative review... Im not sure how much an initial hearing evaluation cost for a cash payment... I easily could have assumed that cost by my promise to pay cash. but instead, they were unwilling, unable to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. THIS means to me, they aren't able to make decisions, or their boss doesnt think they can make those types of decisions.... read more

Do not waste your time at this unprofessional place. My boyfriend took his hearing aid their to get the plastic string that pulls the hearing aid out of his ear fixed. The hearing aid was working fine and had no issues other then the plastic string breaking. When they returned his hearing aid to him it was no longer working at all. The string they claimed they supposedly fixed, broke off because they glued it back on. They didn't even replace it! When he called them back and asked them what they did to his hearing aid they stated that it was already not working at all when he gave it to them. Why would you take a hearing aid that wasn't working to a place to fix the plastic string if it wasn't working at all? So now he had to take it to another hearing aid place to fix and pay $400.00. He is without his hearing aides for two weeks. He had to cancel two job interviews because of this. He asked to speak with someone else to assist him with his issue and they were absolutely no help. Alan Simon who also contacted him was no help as well. I cant believe in this day and age a business would treat someone so unprofessionally. This is not bad service you received from a restaurant for a meal this is something that has effected his life. You would think that being in the business of dealing with people with disabilities they would be more professional. We will also be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. They explained the important role hearing plays in your brain to keep your brain healthy as you age. When it was determined that mom needed hearing aids, they offered her some affordable options. Our family was referred to the HEAR Center after a very difficult and frustrating experience with another audiologist. We've had a very rough year medically with our son (who just turned two) and were feeling disappointed with the entire medical system. However, talking to the HEAR Center it was the first time in a long time I felt hopeful. Ellen was our initial contact and was incredibly patient and kind. It was the first time in a long time I felt like someone was listening, cared, and had some solutions. She walked through all [of] our options, provided stellar recommendations, and took the time to fully answer questions. I really felt like we finally had some people on our team. When our son went in to the HEAR Center for some tests, they were warm and welcoming and kind. Ellen stayed connected and involved with all the aspects of our son's follow up which meant a lot to us. And the results were clear and understandable! What a wonderful find! We are so grateful for their help!!! They really changed our view for the better! read more

I recently experienced ear pain and was referred here by my ENT for a hearing test. The audiologist whom I saw, Joanna, is just great. She explained to me what to expect during my hearing test, gave me a report of the test results. And suggested musician's ear plugs for me to wear to my classes at the gym (source of loud music). HEAR center has a hearing screening program that provides FREE hearing screenings to all ages. Yes, FREE! Some of these screenings are off-site and held in head start programs for different school districts across san gabriel valley. I had the pleasure of experiencing the hearing screenings in the pediatric population. The center is an uplifting and supportive environment. They thrive in early detection! I always believed the sooner detected, the greater the outcome! The staff are extremely kind and knowledgeable! I am glad to have partaken in such an amazing program, and I hope these services continue for the best interest of everyone who can best benefit from them! If I can give this place no rating I would. As we all know that when it comes to working with children with disabled needs it requires patience and not everyone is fit for that job. With that being said, my daughter was 10 (late 2019) at the time with Down Syndrome. She is sweet and sassy but Maline Medina felt she was too much for her to work with. Which means and she states in her LinkedIn profile that she is good with disabled children. Don't be fooled because she has absolutely no patience, cancels appointments very frequently and would yell at my daughter, she freaked out one day while working with my daughter and abruptly in my daughters presence said find another therapist, I can't work with her anymore. First and foremost, she traumatized my daughter and my daughter told me, "I don't want Maline, she mean". I told my baby don't worry honey your not coming here anymore. So I brought this to Ellen Simon MS Director attention and she could care less, same o apology. I'm sorry you feel this way. This place is a joke, the staff has even expressed it. read more

HEAR Center is amazing! One of the few places that has both audiologists and speech pathologists working so closely together. The staff is always sweet and very helpful. This is one of the few non profit organizations in the area that has been able to provide so much help for so many people. At age 19 I was no longer covered by CCS. My parents had to pay full price for my hearing aids. CHLA referred us to Sonus in Downtown LA and that's where my hearing aids were fitted and ordered since I was 6 years old. We decided to stay there and buy hearing aids with Sonus since they know me and have my whole record of hearing evaluations. I got my previous hearing aids 5 years ago and I decided its time to get new ones. I'm now responsible and old enough to get my own pair. I reached out to HEAR Center and had a hearing aid consult with Allison. I was shocked to learn that I would be paying less for better quality hearing aids plus accessories than what my dad paid for my previous hearing aids. I also decided that I wanted to try newer technology. I have been using Phonak for years but a bit nervous to try out something newer and current. When I had my hearing aid fitting I right away noticed a difference which I was warned about. I knew I would have to get used to it and I would feel normal within 2 weeks or so. I was not a stranger to this situation. My previous hearing aids were my first digital hearing aids and it took me some weeks to get used to how everything sounded. However I felt disappointed with my new hearing aids. I took down notes of what I liked and didn't like. I went back to my old hearing aids meanwhile. I felt frustrated but I know that its hard to understand things from the perspective of a hard of hearing person. I talked to Allison and she was able to help me out. I explained as detailed as possible what I liked and didn't liked about the new hearing aids. Allison was so patient with me and so understanding. She decided I should try out a different hearing aid model. Guess what? Everything I described to her was solved with this other model. I still had to adjust to them but after a while everything sounded normal to me. Thanks Allison! p.s. I love my Streamer Pro. I can listen to music on my phone directly to my hearing aids and answer calls. Technology is awesome! I was missing out on a lot for 5 years. read more

If this review was only based on the front desk staff it would be 5 stars. The receptionist was really nice, very helpful and made me feel really comfortable. Debbie was truly a star. The speech therapist my son saw was quite the opposite. Let me start by saying I was referred to the Hear Center through my insurance. I had no prior knowledge of the Hear Center. My son had also just had an evaluation done by the regional center. It was a great experience and gave me a fair expectation of what would happen. The therapist was rude and disrespectful towards me and my 2 year old. Her comments were so shocking. Comments like, "Are you even the birth parent?" No so bad but the look on her face said otherwise. Or after I informed her about the previous evaluation by the regional center she responds, "That report isn't accurate, he is MUCH farther behind." Statements like, "He can't even make eye contact or respond to simple things." These things were so inconsistent with his daily behavior and the report by regional center. Then she proceeds to tell me that services would more than likely be denied. So if your evaluation is correct why would he be denied? I was hopeful that he would be denied. The sadness that came over when I got the letter saying that my son was approved for services was overwhelming. I would not want my child subjected to her. I'm grateful that I was able to call my insurance company and request a different provider. Maybe she was having a bad morning. Maybe she didn't plan on being rude, disrespectful or anything else but it rubbed me and my 2 year old son the wrong way. I'm so happy with the therapist he is seeing now. He has grown so much. My advice: evaluate the people giving service to your child and decide appropriately. Good luck. read more

For the past several months I had trouble hearing from both ears. I researched three hearing aid specialists in the Pasadena area, and decided to go with HEAR Center. I selected HEAR Center over my other options because it's a nonprofit and Debbie, the Office Manager, was very friendly and helpful.The Hear Center facility was very neat and the staff was super friendly and professional! Ellen Simon, the Executive Director and Audiologist of HEAR Center took care of me as she guided me throughout the hearing test. She was very nice and helpful as she recommended me to an ENT Doctor; Dr. Shen. I can now hear perfectly! It feels wonderful being able to hear again! :) read more

BEWARE! This place is a complete crock. My son's daycare set up a free hearing screen for all the kids. I didn't want my son to participate, as we have great medical coverage and can go to a real doctor/hospital for a hearing screening anytime, but I also didn't want my son to be the only kid left out, as I knew they'd probably make it into a fun game/activity, as these are preschoolers. I reluctantly signed my release... which VERY CLEARLY stated that IF anything was found, they would contact me. In fact, the form asked me to provide my cell phone and email address for that very reason. I obliged. So I'm sure you can imagine my astonishment when I showed up to daycare that day after a long day at work, and the teacher blurted out "your son failed the test". And then shoved a piece of paper in my hand & told me to call Hear Center for a follow up appointment. Yea, go ahead and hold your breath while you wait for that to happen, Hear Center. A) I never gave any consent for you to release my son's results to anyone other than myself, which is completely ILLEGAL. B) My son does not have hearing problems; he's been tested before & did just fine. C) Even if he DID, this situation was not handled properly, ethically or professionally. If that's how they handle the delicate issue of children, I can only imagine that this place is completely mismanaged. I would NOT trust them to your private information, including but not limited to, medical or financial records... as clearly they can't handle sensitive information effectively. read more

Since I first admitted I needed hearing aids 9 months ago at the age of 72 I've gone to the Hear Center. From the front desk reception, Debbie, to my personal audiologist, Allison, I have felt welcomed into a friendly environment. The tests, adjustments, successful attempts to help me, etc. have all been handled in a very professional and excellent manner. Whenever I have a concern or question I don't hesitate to call or go by because I know I will be treated with respect and receive what I need. A couple of months ago when I called the manufacturer of my hearing aids to inquire about the remote control for adjusting the volume I was sadly informed that it had been discontinued and they had no more in stock. I even tried eBay and Craig's list with no luck. On a visit for adjustments last week, without being asked, Allison personally called a technician at the manufacturer to find out if there just might be a remote control that I needed just sitting on a shelf somewhere. I couldn't believe my ears when Allison told me that the technician had found one and would mail it to the Hear Center!! Now I can adjust the volume whenever I need to. It's really made a wonderful difference. My only complaint is that sometimes it takes a few weeks to get an appointment, but that's because others want their services too. I plan to continue to allow them to assist with my hearing needs. I couldn't recommend them more highly! P.S. I am NOT related to anyone there. read more

My 2yr old needed a full audiological exam after one ear failed the basic screening at preschool. The audiologist, Joanna, was very professional, efficient, and willing to answer any questions thoroughly. She clearly explained the testing procedures and implications of the results. Her report was completed and emailed to me the same day so I could follow up with our pediatrician for an ENT referral. The front office staff was wonderful and polite. I would definitely recommend the HEAR center. read more

(Response to the clinic's business manager) Dear Jennifer, Thank you for your well wishes. We are more than satisfied with our current therapist. FYI, our original appointment was made 5 weeks ahead and it was cancelled 1 week prior, due to the therapist's jury duty. First of all, the therapist should've known more than a month that she was going to be in jury duty since notices for jury duty is scheduled at least a month in advance. Also, since jury duty is mandatory, the only way the person can get excused from it is by attending the first day at which point the person can request to be excused. In short, the date for jury duty is set well in advance. Therefore, your office should've re-scheduled our appointment sooner rather than waiting 1 week, before our scheduled appointment, to cancel our appointment. However, at one point, we were told by the receptionist that the therapist was called in for jury duty only one week to the date of her public service. During another time, we were told by the receptionist that the therapist forgot about her jury duty. We understand that mistakes can happen, but there were no apologies offered by anyone. Second, we were given another appointment which was going to be another 5 weeks of wait. It would've been a total of 10 weeks wait to finally see a therapist from your office. At which time, our medical authorization would've expired by the time our appointment came. There was an error on the part of your therapist and we shouldn't have to wait longer because of that error. The therapist could've made up for her mistake by temporarily staying later each day and accommodate those patients whose appointments ended being cancelled. Third, when we spoke with Ellen (your director), she was very condescending, telling us that jury duty is mandatory and that it wasn't the therapist's "fault" for being on jury duty and telling us that your office wasn't going to cancel other appointments to accommodate us. Having your therapist on jury duty wasn't our concern. Our concerns were that our appointment was cancelled ONE WEEK prior to the date because the therapist FORGOT about her jury duty AND that we had to wait ANOTHER 5 WEEKS for another appointment. Also, there was no need for Ellen to assume that we wanted other patients' appointments cancelled so that we can be "squeezed in," because that was not what we wanted to accomplish. Again, temporary extended working hours for the therapist to accommodate cancelled patients would've been one solution. Ellen also blamed us for being on vacation, causing us not to be able to see the therapist sooner than 5 weeks. REALLY, now it is our fault? I couldn't believe that your office expects us to be on their beck and call and wait by the phone, whether we were going to be cancelled or rescheduled. In addition, Ellen is very arrogant in saying that we will never get the quality therapy your office gives if we go somewhere else. Scare tactics do not work. In fact, it only drives consumers away. How can anyone believe that your office gives top-notch quality therapy, if your office cannot even get the scheduling correct? You have to get us in your office first for us to be able to determine the quality of care your therapists is able to give. Quality of care begins from start to finish -- from the scheduling of patients to the discharge of the patients. First impression is very important. Besides being condescending, blaming us for having a scheduled vacation and the scare tactics, Ellen (or any of your staff) wasn't apologetic at all for the scheduling problems. I hope that you hold a staff improvement meeting because a little compassion and an apology from your staff would be very much appreciated, especially by parents who are mainly concerned about their children's well-being. read more

Took my grandmother to get her hearing test and unfortunately, the computer that ran the tests suddenly turned off by itself and the auD had to repeat the tests again. I understand that was terrible luck but the office did nothing to try to compensate for the extra time and inconvenience of redoing the tests. If they had good customer service would have offered something to make up for the unprofessional service. My grandmother only speaks Spanish so when they did the word test, they called someone with a hearing impairment to test my grandma and asked me to stand next to this assistant so I could make sure she was hearing my grandma correctly. She actually was not hearing my grandma accurately, so I was keeping count of the incorrect words myself. When everything was done, the audiologist told us they were not contracted with a hearing aid company that would accept my grandma's insurance (medi-medi). In sum, we live in Los Angeles and they should really consider hiring a Spanish speaker and improve their customer service. Also, since they knew what kind of insurance we had from the beginning, they should have told us that they would not be able to supply/order the hearing aids from the beginning. read more

At first I thought this place was great. My son was evaluated here last year. The office staff and speech therapist were friendly at that time. I was so shocked by the unprofessional and poor treatment I received by the office staff. They made me feel as though my child was unimportant. If this place truly cares about its patients then I would expect better treatment. I rescheduled an appointment and missed another appointment. I never received a phone call confirming the appointment. I found out that I missed it because I got billed in the mail. I called to ask if the fee could be waived. The office staff said the system could have been down, but I still had to pay the fee. I paid the fee of $40.00. Months later I tried booking an appointment for my twins and was refused service. I was told I had to go somewhere else because they couldn't risk me not showing up! (I'm human with twins and a six year old and I forget appointments.) I'm convinced this place has placed the love of money over the love of its patients. Unfortunate, but I'm glad there are many other great Speech and Language therapist in the area that do place patients above their pocket book. I was referred here from the Doctors office and insurance company. I have notified them both about my experience here. read more
